Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P119 (06-17-24)

Those Living Under Both Law and Grace are Living Under Adultery

~ The person trying to live under law, while saying they live under grace is committing the sin of spiritual adultery. They have two wives. They try to obey both of them, and they can obey neither one of them. People don’t have a clue what they are even doing. In their eyes, they are doing what is right, yet in God’s eyes it is called adultery. God is NOT pleased with a person living like this. They are only fooling themselves, pretending they are living one way, when God knows their heart. They will lie to themselves, and lie to others, but it is plain for all to see. They act all holier-than-thou. They think they are better than you, because in their mind they think they are obeying (at least some of the law). And whatever law they don’t obey, they then pretend that God covers that with His Grace. All of that is a lie of Satan, spread by Satan’s ministers of self righteousness. They teach Satan’s lies left and right, and people listen to them, based on what their itching ears want to hear. Not only that, they will go out of their way to support these false teachers of grace, and think nothing of it, because after all, they think they have to support their local church. News alert, only those in Christ Jesus are the church of God. No one goes to church. Church is not a building on the corner of walk and don’t walk. Stop supporting these institutions that are building better bars to keep you under bondage. Get rid of the slave woman and her son. These types of ministries are evil to the core. They will keep you in bondage to religion and works of the law.

~ Hebrews 12:14-29

Pursue peace with everyone, as well as holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God, and that no root of bitterness springs up to cause trouble and defile many. See to it that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected. He could find no ground for repentance, though he sought the blessing with tears.

For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom, and storm; to a trumpet blast or to a voice that made its hearers beg that no further word be spoken. For they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned.” The sight was so terrifying that even Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”

Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to myriads of angels in joyful assembly, to the congregation of the firstborn, enrolled in heaven. You have come to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

See to it that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if the people did not escape when they refused Him who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject Him who warns us from heaven? At that time His voice shook the earth, but now He has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth, but heaven as well.”The words “Once more” signify the removal of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that the unshakable may remain.

Therefore, since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us be filled with gratitude, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. “For our God is a consuming fire.”Hebrews 12:14-29

Pray to God:

“Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “My friends, do you understand that God called us to grace? And when you try to live under the law, you’re committing spiritual adultery. Do you realize that what living under the law is? It’s spiritual adultery. And you may not know it. I didn’t know it. But that’s what I was doing. You can’t be married to two people at the same time. You either gotta be married to the law or get married to Jesus Christ in the grace of God but you can’t be married to both of them. And when You’re trying to play grace and law together, you’re living in adultery, spiritual adultery. And that’s what he’s saying, Get rid of it. For the slave woman’s son, catch this, folks, people who are trying, we just read to make themselves acceptable in the sight of the God, through their obedience to the law are under a curse. And those people will never, ever, ever share in the inheritance of a woman’s son. You understand that? You’re never going to see the presence of God when you’re trying to live under both of them, or trying to come to Christ through obedience to the law instead off believing what you heard. Folks, Paul was not real happy with these Galatians. You see, he would be criticized vehemently today by the modern day theologian. It’d be what know his credentials are, where I graduated from cemetery. He would be a total odds. Because he’s preaching a true grace message. So hacked, that in the third chapter, this very book, he started out You foolish, stupid, idiotic Galatians who has hypnotized you and cast an evil spell upon you?! You used to see the meaning of Christ’s death as clearly as odd way replace God in front of you. You know what he called it? An evil spell. Do you know what’s on the Christian community today? An evil spell. We say we trust Christ. We don’t trust Christ. We’re trusting ourselves. We’re trusting our religion. We’re trusting our self effort, begging God continually to do what he’s already done, and spitting in his face. As he hung on the cross and said, I don’t think you forgave at all.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:29
The reason you’re thinking about what you’re supposed to do is because you’re still under the Law, because the law demands your flesh to behave. And until you die to the thing that demands your flesh to behave, you’re not free to be led by the Spirit of God living in so we’re sitting around thinking about us instead of him. So he said clearly no one is justified before God by the law because the righteous will live by faith. And the law is not based on faith. On the contrary, he redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us for it is written cursed is everyone who hung on a tree, he redeemed us in order that the blessings given Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Jesus Christ so that by faith, we might receive the promise of the Spirit. Now, he’s talking about then, that he said, let me take an example out of everyday life, no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established. So in this case is the promises were spoken to Abraham. And his Seed, you will notice is that it does not say seeds. But he said, seed meaning one person who is Christ. And what he said, I mean, then is the law that was introduced 430 years later, does not set aside this covenant, this promise given to Abraham that was given before the law, it doesn’t set it aside. For if our inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on a promise. But God in His grace gave it to Abraham through a promise. Now in verse 22, before faith came it said, We were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we could be justified then by faith in Christ. And now that faith has come, we’re no longer under the supervision of the law.

Now turn back over for a moment, to the fourth chapter of Galatians. And I want to pick up again, briefly with what we talked about last week, because I want us to see this. In verse 24, excuse me, in verse 21, those who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says where it is written, and Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman, that’s Hagar, and the other by the free woman that Sarah, his son by the slave woman was born in an ordinary way. But the son of the free woman was born as a result of the promise. In other words, Isaac was born as a result of the promise, the promise of God, that through your seed, all of the world will be blessed. And Jesus came from the seed of Isaac. The Hebrews would say today what God Do you believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and then just carry the bloodline right on through to the Messiah. And through that side, that Messiah through that seed through that bloodline, the whole world was going to be blessed through the Seed, which was Jesus. Now it says these things may be taken figuratively for the woman represents two covenants. Now we’re talking again, and in a book of Hebrews, he’s talking about Christ being greater than angels, greater than Moses, greater than Joshua, greater than Abraham greater than the priests greater than the old covenant talking about two covenants. And the new one is the greater! So he’s talking about now we’re going to compare these two covenants that were under today, the old and the new. One covenant is from Mount Sinai. And that’s where the law was given folks. And that bears children who are to be slaves. This represents Hagar, the slave woman. God told Abraham, Sarah, you’re going to have a child. They are of an age, she laughed. I thought that was funny. And it probably wasn’t coming along quite as well as she thought it was. So she came up with a good idea. Abraham, why don’t you sleep with the slave woman with Hagar. And him being an obedient husband says, All right, if you insist, and so she insisted, and so he did. And so what do we have today? Well, we have what we got today. So the best that man could produce was conflict. When you go out in the energy of your own flesh and lean upon your own understanding, instead of acknowledging him in all of his ways, and let him direct your path, we lean upon our own understanding, and Sara leaned upon our her understanding. And Abraham obediently responded (tongue in cheek statement). And so they had Ishmael. And they’ve been in conflict ever since. That’s what all the wars are about. That’s why that part of the country is the absolute center point of all of human history and has been ever since that event. And will be, until the Lord comes back, the best that man could produce in the energy of his own flesh was Ishmael.

So this Mount Sinai, it talks about represents Hagar, now, Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, not the heavenly one, the present one, because she is in slavery with her children. And when this was written, Jerusalem was in slavery, they were owned and occupied by Roman occupation. But the Jerusalem that is above the one he’s talking about up here, you didn’t come to Mount Zion, you came to a new Jerusalem, a heavenly Jerusalem. And Paul now is talking about the same thing that Jerusalem that is above, that’s the Heavenly Jerusalem, it’s free. And she is our mother, not the earthly Jerusalem. That’s not where our tie is. But the Heavenly Jerusalem where Jesus is. That’s our Jerusalem. She is our mother. For it is written, Be glad oh barren woman who bears no children break forth and cry aloud for you who have no labor pains, because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband. There’s more of them. There’s more of Hagar’s kids than there are of Sarah’s when you’re looking at natural birth. Now, you brothers like Isaac, to say that you brothers, like Isaac, our children of promise. At that time, the son born in the ordinary way persecuted the son born by the power of the spirit still goes on. And the same is now it says. But what does the Scripture say? You know what Sarah said to Abraham? Get rid of that slave woman and her son. I don’t want anything to do with either one of them. Two mothers living in the same house with the same husband does not work too well. You ever notice that? We even have that taking place baby M is an example that we’ve gotten smarter than God. So we take a man’s semen and interjected into some woman, she has a baby and now all of a sudden, she wants to keep her baby and and the people who are gonna adopt them want to keep it and all of a sudden, here’s a guy sitting there’s a father of a kid and a mother don’t even know who she is. Man is really smart. We figured out how to do all kinds of things. That is about as opposite to the things of God of anything I can think of. We take things in our own hands. And we produce more Ismaels, trials and tribulations beyond comprehension was great for the legal system. Pay the bill. But it’s not very good for humanity. So it says that from what does the Scripture say it says get rid of the slave woman and her son. Now, folks, the woman Hagar represented Mount Sinai, didn’t it? Isn’t that what it just says it represents Mount Sinai, what to say to do to that? Wouldn’t say to do with that? Get rid of it! Why? Because you can’t live with two women.

My friends, do you understand that God called us to grace? And when you try to live under the law, you’re committing spiritual adultery. Do you realize that what living under the law is? It’s spiritual adultery. And you may not know it. I didn’t know it. But that’s what I was doing. You can’t be married to two people at the same time. Bob George 13:55
Living in spiritual adultery, trying to live under grace and under law at the same time, trying to live with one wife and another at the same time, and we tolerate that, and don’t think anything of it. Paul didn’t tolerate it. He was mad as a hornet at it. You foolish, idiotic Galatians. I want to ask you a question, Did you receive the Spirit of God by believing what you heard or by obeying the law, which is it? And the answer, believe in what I heard. Then, why are you so foolish after beginning in the spirit? Why are you now trying to perfect yourself a human effort? Why are you trying to follow all these rules and regulations that are man made, that have no bearing at all on what it is to walk in a new relationship with Christ, Jesus? Why are you walking under the old covenant and under the new at the same time? Get under one or get under the other, but don’t try to walk under both of them. We tolerate it. Happy with it. Sit in our. Legalistic churches and pay the rent in order to keep the bars stronger and the locks greater, to keep us under more bondage than we’ve ever been under in our lives. And we sit there and enjoy it and finance it. And freedom comes along and we take it for granted. Paul, is saying to us that you will never if you think you’re coming to Christ through obedience to the law, you will never inherit the free woman, son, the inheritance. Therefore brothers, he’s saying again, we are not children of the slave woman. You are not children of the law. You are children of Jesus, Christ, of the free woman. Now he goes ahead to say, it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then, and don’t let yourself be burdened again by this yoke of slavery. Why are you getting back under the law? You’ve been set free by the grace of God. Why do you want to get back into the law again? Colossians says, getting under those old rules and regulations, don’t touch, don’t this, don’t dance, don’t do this. Didn’t say, Don’t dance, we do all that other junk. He said, all those things have an appearance of wisdom, but they lack anything at all in restraining sensual indulgence, they’re meaningless. Why? Because God’s looking on your heart anyway, you can get that outside, all dressed up, all you want to, but he’s looking on your heart.

It is no mystery to me anymore. And the more I’m in this work, and the more we get letters coming in from the intellectual, so called pseudo intellectual, and the theolog and everything else that just blast away at the grace of God, the more that I see the and relate to the Lord’s response with you bunch of white washed sepulchers, I understand his anger toward that self righteousness. It is the most sickening thing on the face of the earth is to talk to a self righteous person, obnoxious as can be, just standing there. I am doing everything right. Mean, as a Hornet, and that’s what Jesus said. You’re all clean on the outside and dirty as a pig on the inside. There’s none righteous. No, not one. And anyone acting righteous is an actor and a hypocrite beyond measure. There’s no one righteous. No, not one. A person walked around saying, Oh, I’m obedient to the law. You’re a liar and a hypocrite.

Now Paul is talking, and he’s saying, mark, I’m going to say because here again, I want to be identified with being a Jew. I want this circumcision to you. I don’t be identified being Christ. I’ll be identified being a Hebrew. Same thing. I don’t be identified being Hebrew. I would be identified being a Baptist. I would be identified being a church of Christ. I want to be identified being a Catholic. I want to I want to follow their rules and their regulations. I want to get involved in what they say you have to do to be one of them. And he’s saying to them, mark my words. I tell you, let yourself be circumcised. Christ will have no value to you at all. Now, folks, circumstance, that’s not a real biggie, when you think of it, it only affects half of the population. But he’s saying you let yourself get involved in a least little thing like that in order to think that you’re identifying yourself with something else, except Christ, Christ isn’t of any value to you. Again, I declare that every man lets himself be circumcised, he’s obligated to obey the whole law. You want to be obedient to that law, then you’re under all of them, including the ones that Jesus said, like if you lust, pluck your eye out. If you steal, cut your hand off. That’s part of the law you’re you are obligated to obey it all. You who are trying to be justified by law, have been alienated from Christ. You’ve fallen from grace. Do you know the people teach that when you sin, you’ve fallen from grace, and don’t realize that they’re living in sin by not trusting Jesus. Can you imagine a sin any worse than looking at him in his face and saying, I don’t believe you when you died for me? And we think the filthy five is sin, and we don’t recognize that denying and doubting what Christ Jesus did for you and me is a sin immeasurable. You’ve fallen from the grace of God and gotten yourself back into the law again. But by faith, we eagerly await, through the Spirit, the righteousness for which we hope. Hope For in Christ. Jesus, neither circumcision or uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. He said, guys, you’re running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth you used to be running a good race, then you got over there and started getting out of the law again. And it’s amazing what we will sacrifice for truth. All the good music program, good kids program, nice choir. Let’s go over there. Let’s get associated with all those good things. Who cares about truth? He said, Who cut in on you kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion doesn’t come from the one who called you, a little yeast, folks is talking about the law, just a little yeast. That’s all it takes. Works through the whole batch of dough. And I’m confident in the Lord that you’ll take no other view. The one who is throwing you in confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be. Brothers, Paul said, If I’m still preaching circumcision, why am I being persecuted, in that case, the offense of the cross has been abolished. Now he says, As for these agitators, I wish they’d go all the way and emasculate themselves. I think that’s a riot. Now, do you think Paul might be a little hacked? Man if you’re going to practice circumcision, just go all the way. See, the Bible has a sense of humor too. It also has reality. I wish you just emasculate yourself.

Now, folks, when Paul and the author of Hebrews is talking about the difference between the New Covenant and the Old Covenant, again, we’re not talking about some theological argument. You’re talking about truth. You’re talking about what God did for you and me, and we’re not talking about what theologians think about what God did for you and me. It’s as clear as the nose on our face, and it’s all grace, and it’s none of us. And so he’s saying to us back in Hebrews that you have come to Mount Zion. You’ve come to a heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You’ve come to the 1000s upon 1000s of angels in joyful assembly. You’ve come to God, the Judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant. So he’s given a warning, not a warning to those who are truly in Christ, but those who are playing with it that haven’t gone all the way yet. See to it you don’t refuse the one who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned Moses warned them on Earth, a man made warning. How much more will we if we turn away from Him? Jesus, who warns us from heaven. There is no other name given among men whereby you must be saved. Paul said, I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the power of God unto salvation. Jesus is not a higher power. He’s not the good boy upstairs. He’s God, and God has a name, and his name is Jesus, and what he’s talking about is, at that time, his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, once more, I will shake not only the Earth, but also the heavens. The words, once more, indicate that the removing of what can be shaken, that is the earth created things so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Folks it doesn’t come. It’s already here. We just don’t see it. He says, I’m going to shake this earth up. So the only thing remaining is what’s already here that can’t be destroyed, and that’s me, and that’s my promises. And therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. And so worship God, acceptably with reverence and awe for our God is a consuming God. My friends, when you’re talking about the awe of God, you’re talking about a God who saw man and his condition on Earth and its condition, and made a provision for that. He tried everything under the sun to try to get man to see that apart from God, he is nothing, that God, the Creator in man, the creation is indispensable to the humanity of a man. And apart from Christ living in us, we have no hope of ever being made into what God created us to be. That is a serious problem, and he gave a serious solution, not one to be taken lightly, not one to quibble over theologically, but one to believe by merely reaching out and saying, Thank You, Lord Jesus, thank you. You’ve done it all. You went to a cross to die for all of my sins, once and for all, never to see them again, never to deal with them again. You’re coming back, as it says, not to deal with sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting on him. You were raised from the dead so that you could bring life to the lifeless, hope, to the hopeless, peace, to the fearful. And I get rid of Hagar and her son, I’m not going to live in spiritual adultery anymore. It’s either all grace or it’s no grace, either determined to get under the law all the way and be cursed or to get under Grace all the way and be blessed.
