Thanksgiving P5 – Bob George (11-29-24)
All Men are Born Dead, Without the Spirit of God Living in Them
~ Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned. Romans 5:12
If a person doesn’t know they are dead, why would they ever turn to Jesus for Life? It’s one thing to know that our sins have been forgiven at the cross, it’s something else to understand that we are ALL dead without the Life giver living inside us, the Holy Spirit of God, the One that gives us eternal life the moment we place faith in Him. No man is ever born physically by natural birth, alive spiritually. We were All born in the image of the fallen Adam, dead. And scripture is crystal clear on this. And most people don’t know that, nor do they want to know the Truth of that. They would much rather promote Satan’s lie that we are all basically good, and that we are to look at the good in people. And hence, most people do not share the gospel with people at all, because they have no idea that people are the walking dead all around them. They still talk about getting your sins forgiven as though that is salvation.
People need to hear the message of Truth. They need to understand what the Word of God says about them. They need to understand their condition of spiritual death. People need to know their condition, to understand the need for God’s provision to provide Eternal Life to them. They need to know the Truth about themselves and the Truth about God. Both sides of the equation should be shared with people to make sure they understand their need for Life. As we have said repeatedly, salvation is NOT getting your sins forgiven. Salvation is LIFE, when the Holy Spirit comes to give a person LIFE when they place faith in the TRUE Jesus of the scriptures. Not a Jesus of their own imagination. For there are many today that think they are saved, yet are still walking around as corpses, dead in their sin. And Satan likes people thinking they are saved when they are not, and for some others thinking they can get lost when they are saved, and the focus is constantly on the sin issue, instead of the the Eternal Life issue for everyone today. And quite frankly, most are not even sharing the gospel today, because they don’t even understand the gospel themselves. They continue to pass on the lies of Satan to get one’s sins forgiven by asking God for it.
So thank God today that He shared the message of Truth with you. And if you have not received the message of Truth that is a simple thing to do. Simply agree with Jesus, thank Him that He forgave ALL your sins on the cross, and God is no longer counting any of your sins against you. The very moment when you place faith in Jesus, God in flesh to have done that for you on the cross, then His Holy Spirit comes to live in you to give you eternal Life for ever and ever, and He will NEVER leave you no matter what. He makes you a new creature in Christ Jesus.
~ Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1
~ For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17
Romans 5:12-21
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned. For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin in the way that Adam transgressed. He is a pattern of the One to come. But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many! Again, the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment that followed one sin brought condemnation, but the gift that followed many trespasses brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive an abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! So then, just as one trespass brought condemnation for all men, so also one act of righteousness brought justification and life for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. The law came in so that the trespass would increase; but where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

~ “Now, what is salvation guys? Oh, you’ve sinned. You need your sins forgiven. You know, we’ve never gone beyond that. So you’ve sinned and you need your sins forgiven. That’s salvation to this day, that is the major teaching in Christendom, that all you need is to get your sins forgiven. Why? Because, basically, you’re good person. No, you’re dead. You’re a stinkin corpse. Dead. Don’t care how nice you look. Don’t care what kind of spiritual perfume and deodorant you put on. You’re dead. And we said, no, no, no, no, no, you gotta be politically correct. That’s not very nice to say about those sweet people. And I mean, there’s some nice people over there say, Yeah, but they’re dead. Yeah. Probably some nice corpses around, but they’re dead. And we have to understand this is what God had to come to do, not just to take away your sins. Your sins are what caused your death. So if I didn’t take away what caused it, why would I give you life? Because if I didn’t take away what caused it, and it gave you life. The next time you sin, you’d be dead again. I had to free you guys from that whole realm over here, the whole realm that you live in, the whole realm of it under the control, prisoner, locked up until what? Faith in Christ should be revealed now, guys who in the world is going to be capable of taking you out of that state of death into life? Is Buddha going to do it? Is Mohammed going to do it? Is any man that you know going to do it? These people would get up and say, Oh, well, this religion is they’re bull, religion all of it is junk, all of it, including the Christian religion, if that’s all you have is religion. It’s all what he says, dung, compared to that of what? Knowing the only one whose life was capable of being laid down totally taking away the sins of the whole world, not covering them, taking them away and was raised from the dead so that you and I could be raised from the dead, new citizenship.” ~ Bob George

Now in verse 12, in chapter five, it says, Therefore, just as sin entered through the world by one man, and death through sin, in this way, death came to all men because all sin because before the law was given. So again, guys, what I’m getting at here is all through this book of Romans. It’s the law, the law of the law, and we had we ignore that. Sin is not taken into account when there is no law. Nevertheless, rain a death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking the command, as did Adam, who was the pattern of the one to come. In other words, the wages of sin is death, whether you’re under the law or not under the law. Before the law came, even though there was no law, still the wages of sin was death. And so what he’s saying here is we’ve all died. All of us are born into this world, dead, spiritually. What keeps us dead? The law. And again, we have to see if you’ll go back over to verse 14 in chapter six, it says, The Law their sin shall not be your master, because you’re not under the law, but under grace. So as long as you are under the law, sin is your master. Now again, guys, we’re over here in law land, and sin is your master. Why? Because you’re under the law, and if you’re under the law, what is the wages of sin under the law? Death.
Now that’s a problem, isn’t it, and God had to free these people. I’m just using these as examples, you understand, to free them from the consequence of sin, which is death, spiritual death, spiritual death. You have natural man and you have spiritual man. You have natural birth and you have spiritual birth. We’re talking about spiritual things. They had to be saved from the consequence of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is life eternal. They are under the reign of sin and death. They have no choice. The things they want to do. They don’t do the things they don’t want to do. They do them anyway. You look into the mirror, as I did for 36 years, saying, Bob George, what in the world is this thing looking back at you? Who are you? What’s wrong with you? Why can’t you do and be the kind of person that God wants you to be? Because I was under the law. Now, did I know I was under the law? I didn’t know it. Besides, I didn’t pay attention to it. But it still was true. I was under a death penalty. I was still empty inside. I didn’t know it was because I was dead spiritually, but I sure knew I was empty spiritually, even though I went to church on Sunday and gave my dollar a week if I felt generous that week.
So you can play church over here, and you can be aware of your emptiness over here. Why? Because the Scripture tells us that the purpose of the law is to manifest your sinfulness and to show you that you are sinful, and to show you that there is a consequence for sin called death, and you are dead spiritually and in need of spiritual life, that’s the purpose of the law, not to use it as a standard of holiness, because you cannot keep it, but to show you your death. Death is final. It’s bad. There’s no spiritual life over here. I mean, you can play church, don’t get me wrong. You can play church. You can dress up and go to church every Sunday. You can you can give tithe offerings. You can play religion. In fact, that’s what Satan gets you to do. Satan says, I sure the heck I’m not going to teach you that you’re dead and there’s spiritual life available to you, so I’ll teach you how to be religious, teach you how to go to church, teach you how to dress up and look good, teach you how to lie spiritually. Could teach you how to evangelize. I can teach you anything you can be taught. Anything, but you’re dead. It’s not the case of how bad you are or how good you are, it’s how dead you are. It’s all through the script. The wages of sin is what? Death. Sin shall not be your master, which means, when you’re under the law, sin is your master. He’s your owner. You’re just like a slave with an owner, a mean one that takes you and manipulates us, coerces in every way, shape or form came to what? To steal and destroy and kill. That’s Satan. That’s your land over there.
Now, what is salvation guys? Knowing the only one whose life was capable of being laid down totally taking away the sins of the whole world, not covering them, taking them away and was raised from the dead so that you and I could be raised from the dead, new citizenship.
As an example you have, let’s say we have a map and of the United States. And at the lower end of that map, do we have that map on the computer, on the yeah, there it is on the southern end is Mexico, Northern end Canada. Now let’s say that you were born in Mexico, and in Mexico, and again, these are just examples. So in Mexico it’s tough life. You got a tyrant that’s your master, and he reigns, does he not? As long as you’re there, he reigns. But one day somebody comes and comes and gets you, as we showed last week with James and his wife, and picks you up and moves you over to Graceland. You’re no longer over here, and that’s why it says you used to live there. Shall sin, as we die to sin, shall we live in it anymore? You don’t live there anymore. You don’t live under the sin principle. God, folks, is not dealing with you as a born again believer. And James, I wish you guys should just get up move again. Will you do that for me? In fact, let’s all of you move out of there. All of you who are born again, move out of there. And what I’m saying is you’re on all under the law. So when you move you’re moving out of the law. So get out of there. Empty that place out. You’re over here now in Graceland, and I can see you better too. Now you got one couple back there that wants to stay dead, and if they want to stay dead, that’s their choice, but you’re dead under the law, and if you stay there you’re going to go where you want to go, because you don’t want to go to Graceland. You want to stay under the law, dead. And you got a privilege, you got the right to do that, and you got a choice to do that. But to those who said, no, no, I want to live. I don’t want to live under that law, it kills me. I want to live under grace. I want to be led internally by the Spirit of God. And now they’re over here, brand new, brand new place. They’ve moved out of Mexico, and now they live in the United States. And in the United States you can choose many, many places to live. That’s why they call it the United States. Is because it’s states that are united, one to another, and even though different states can have different laws, they’re all under the one law called America, the United States of what? America.
You are now children of the living God. You are now not a Baptist or a Presbyterian or a Methodist. Your identity isn’t where you park your body on Sundays or Saturdays, your identity is who you are. You’ve been made into a new creation. You’re over here now. You’re no longer over there.
Now you say, Well, I can I go back? No, you can’t go back. You absolutely cannot go back any more than a caterpillar can go back or a butterfly can go back to being a caterpillar. He’s a new creation, but you can visit close by, and that’s what a lot of Christians do. They say, Well, I know I can’t go back, but I’m going to sit on this aisle right over here, where Jean is close as I can get to the law, but realizing that, no, I’m not under it, but I’m close to it because it was my friend. Says, heaven forbid. Heaven forbid.
Now let’s read this. Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? In other words, it says, where the law is, Grace increases where sin increases, Grace increases all the more. So he said, well, then should we go on sinning so this grace could increase? Said, by no means, you died to sin. You’re over here. You died where you lived. That’s sin and death over here. Guys, do you realize that God is no longer dealing with you on the basis of sin and death. Do you realize that? He’s not dealing with you on the basis of sin, not if you’re over here, you say, God, I did it again. He said, did what again? Well, the sin that I committed yesterday, it’s been taken away. Well, the sin I’m going to commit tomorrow, it’s been taken away. What are you coming to me for, for the sin issue? I’ve dealt with it. I dealt with it 2000 years ago. I dealt with it at the cross. Your sins were judged. The verdict was guilty, the punishment was death, and I took it all. That’s why there’s none left for you. That’s why it says in the Bible there is now no condemnation awaiting you, who belong to Christ, Jesus. Well, why is that there isn’t any condemnation awaiting you? I deserve some condemnation. He said, That’s not the issue. The issue is I’ve dealt with it, and I dealt with it in the most harsh way that I knew I crucified my Son so that that blood that was shed for you could be put on you and you could be identified with him, and it’s through that identification be free from sin.

What’s the right what control does that have over you? The wages of sin is what? Death, not under that anymore. So offer your parts of your body as instruments. Don’t offer as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God is those who have been brought from death to life, and offer parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. Why? Look in your Bibles, folks? That’s where you’re going to find this verse 14, For sin shall not be your master. You. Because you’re not under law, but under grace, meaning that if you’re under the law, sin is your master. We say, Well, I know a lot of people that are under the law, but they sure are nice acting people. I don’t care how nice they act. That’s not the issue. The issue the Bible says that if you’re under the law, sin is your master. You’re being mastered by someone other than who came to master you, and that’s God.
Well, the next question that is asked is, What then shall we sin? Because we’re not under the law, but under grace? In other words, if we’re no longer under the law, why should I just live it up? I mean, should I just go do everything that I used to do when I was under the law? And he said, Hold on a minute. It appears to me that the reason you’re over here is because when you were over there, you were so darn miserable that you couldn’t stand it, and you were crying out, if I remember correctly, you were crying out for help. So why would you want to go back to where you were crying out from help? Why do you want to go back to live a lifestyle that makes you so miserable that you wanted to be saved to begin with? You see to a degree that it’s almost a thing of insanity, where you know what you’re doing doesn’t work, but you do it anyway. There’s a case in which a little bit of temporary insanity is going on there. But you’re not under the law. What shall we say? Because we’re not under the law, but under grace that we should go on sinning? By no means. Now here’s what he’s saying. Don’t you know that when you offer yourself to someone to obey Him as slaves, you’re slaves to the one whom you obey, whether you’re a slave to sin, which leads to death or obedience, which leads to righteousness, but thanks be to God, though you used to be slaves to sin. Now what made you a slave to sin? That You were without the Spirit of God living in you. Who was the old man? Me. Who was the old man? Bob George, without the Spirit of God living in me. What makes me different than I was? God lives in me. I live in him. That’s what makes me different. So over here, I was a slave to sin. You wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. But you’ve been set free from sin. You’ve moved. You’ve moved. You’re no longer over there, you’re over here. You’ve moved, and you have become slaves to righteousness.
Now he said, I put this in human terms, because you’re weak in your natural selves. Now, guys, he’s talking here to people who are Christians, and he’s saying you’re weak in your natural selves. So just what good do you think it does for you and me to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and get ourselves all nicely cleansed up? He says, that isn’t going to get it because you’re weak. So guys, do you think we’re ever going to grow in our knowledge of Christ to the point where we are sinless? Does anyone think that they will ultimately get to a point that’s what people who teach what progressive sanctification. That’s where if you just keep setting yourself apart, you’ll get to the point where you don’t even need Jesus anymore. How many of you in here are over 60? How many of you have been in the Lord say, over 30 years? Over 60 and 30 years? How much better Are you in your flesh? Well, I don’t cuss quite as much as I used to, and that’s about as good as you can do, is I’m a little better than I used to be, but I sure am not what I ought to be. Do you think that shocks God? Do you think God looks down and say, Man, what you did that just shocked me. I didn’t know you were capable of that. Guys, do you realize that I don’t care whether you’ve been a Christian for a year or 100 years, that you’re never going to get perfect except in His sight. Quit beating yourself up. Each and every one of us will have frailties until the day that we die. I tell people, if you really want to get rid of this sin that you’re so concerned about, pray for death, because that’s when it’ll happen. In the meantime, we live under what? The grace and the mercy of God, wonderful grace of Jesus, greater than all my sin, that’s where we live, always being grateful for the fact that God delivered me from there over to here, that’s where I live. All people live a little differently. All people still have weaknesses. You weakness is different than his. Yours is different, different weaknesses, different things. But we’re all alive in Christ. Is that good news, guys?
So he says, when you were slave to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. Over here, you were absolutely free from righteousness. You were free free from righteousness. And what benefit Did you reap at that time from the things you’re now ashamed of? Guys so many times we fail to realize there’s repercussion. There’s repercussion to sin. You go out and you say, why would you teach a child that you’re better off just not to start drinking? Why? Because you could become an alcoholic. That’s why. And there’s one way to ensure in life that you’re never going to fall off of the ladder. You know what it is? Never get up on the ladder to be you could turn into being controlled by something other than Jesus. You forfeit your body. And there’s guilt connected with that. And don’t tell me otherwise, there’s guilt connected with it. And so there’s repercussion with these what benefit Did you reap at that time of these things, except the things you’re ashamed of? If you weren’t ashamed of it, you just, Hey, I just did this last night, and I did this and it. Did this, wouldn’t be ashamed of it. Those things result in death. But now that you have been freed from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For, Now look at this, guys, and then we’ll close. The wages of sin is what? Death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ, Jesus, our Lord. Again transferred from the law and its demands upon us, held prisoner by it, under the control of it, and God lifted you up and delivered you over into Graceland. You leave behind what killed you. Remember what Paul said, it’s through the law that I died to the law. Now, if you’re lost, you belong over here, because the law hasn’t done its work yet. The law is not for the righteous. The law is for the unrighteous, to show you your need for righteousness. Now, if you’re over here, then you’re free, but if you’re over here, you’re under, so don’t God didn’t abolish the law, not for the not for the lost. It’s as applicable today as it’s ever been. That’s why we have a supposedly, why it used to be able to have them at the courthouse. Every law that we have in this land comes from those 10 it’s for the lost. It’s to show you you’re a sinner, so that you’ll turn to Christ for your salvation. But guys, you’ve got to go free. You cannot be free, commingling these two. You cannot be free, visiting over here, getting as close to that realm as possible.
And the more legalistic that you are as a Christian, the more closer you are to that a way can’t get over there, but you may as well be there, because you’re dominated by it. Dead to the law, alive to Christ. Anything wrong with the law guys? No. Paul said, nothing wrong with the law. It’s holy and good. What’s the problem with the law? Well, flows through me. It does what? Kills you, doesn’t get you out of fellowship, doesn’t get you out of relationship. Doesn’t mean that God’s turned his back on you get all that stuff, God spins around up there like he’s on the top. It’s death. And in your own mind, if you hang into that law long enough, you will forget all about the fact that you’re living over here in Graceland. And law, again, will dominate your life if you let it, can’t. I mean, it’s you’re not under it, but in your mind, it could dominate you. So go free, go free and let Jesus Christ lead you and guide you and direct you.
We’re going to be celebrating Thanksgiving, and guys, I hope that as we celebrate this season of Thanksgiving, that our minds go further than just the freedom that we have in America. Thank God for the freedom, but it’s being threatened. Thank God we’ve got freedom, but that’s not the freedom that you and I are rejoicing in. I am rejoicing in the fact that I’ve been made free in Christ. You’ve been set free, my brothers. I says, don’t use your freedom to indulge the flesh, but use your freedom to serve one another in love, to serve one another to be thankful. So when Thanksgiving dinner is served, I trust that you’re not going to gobble up all the food before the rest of the people get there, going to serve one another in love, and that’s what that season is all about, thanking God for this provision of grace that some will never take advantage of but those of us that have Do you realize how privileged we are, how unbelievably privileged we are, we sometimes forget it. But guys, don’t forget it. It’s the privilege that God has given us of being able to say, God is my daddy. He’s the one I crawl up in his lap and call him Daddy, Father.
