Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P19 (11-11-24)

Faith, Hope and Love and the Greatest is Love

~ “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is LOVE.” 1 Corinthians 13:13
It’s important for us to understand that God’s love is NOT like our love. His Love is ALWAYS Perfect. And Love always rejoices in TRUTH. The love chapter of 1 Corinthians tells us that: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs. Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 This is God’s love for us. We cannot do it ourselves. And most people also have a skewed idea of God’s love. We think this Love should always be lovey-dovey stuff. Yet we see in there that Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the TRUTH. That’s a key statement that often gets overlooked, because Satan has taught us to be tolerant of people. To in essence NOT rejoice in TRUTH. To cover over the lies, and think that by covering over the lies that that is showing love. However, as we have read in the word of God, and we know “God is Love,” and we also know that Jesus is God, yet Jesus told it like it is, and people got very upset with him. The disciples even questioned him, and said, Jesus, you know they were very offended by what you said to them. Because in the minds of the disciples, they thought Jesus should have been more tolerant, more loving, more understanding of the things that were coming out of their mouths, and not provoke them with his saying what He said.

Matthew 15:10-20

And having summoned the crowd, He said to them, “Hear and understand! It is not what is entering into the mouth that defiles the man; but that going forth out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”

Then the disciples having approached, said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees, having heard this saying, were offended?”

And answering He said, “Every plant that My Heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. Leave them! They are blind guides of the blind.d And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

And Peter answering said to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”

And He said, “Are you also still without understanding? Do you not yet understand that everything entering into the mouth goes into the stomach, and is cast out into the sewer? But the things going forth out of the mouth come forth out of the heart, and these defile the man. For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immorality, thefts, false testimonies, slanders. These are the things defiling the man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.”

And so we see, love is not something that is always going to be taken well by others, because Love always tells the truth in regards to what is really going on. Yet people will NOT like hearing the TRUTH. They would rather feel more comfortable believing Satan’s lies, rather than being exposed by their own words out of their own mouths. Because what comes out of a person’s mouth, reveals what they are thinking in their heart. And that is like the law also. The law reveals our wickedness. The law is like a mirror, it reflects back to us that we can not keep the law.

And so, Satan has created the term of “tolerance” in our society. We are hardly allowed to call certain things today sin, and thus make it more difficult for people to realize they need Jesus in the first place. And if you do call something sin, there are those that will look at you as being unloving. For they think by their own tolerance that they are more loving than you, or even more loving than God. For most people give lip service to the word of God. They pick and choose what to focus on. They want to hear all the good stuff, and never focus on any of the bad stuff talked about in the word of God. And by their own words out of their own mouths they show themselves exactly who they are and what they believe: And having summoned the crowd, He said to them, “Hear and understand! It is not what is entering into the mouth that defiles the man; but that going forth out of the mouth, this defiles the man.” Matthew 15:10

Truth ALWAYS Divides and will not be liked.
Matthew 10:34-39
“Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn
‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

A man’s enemies will be the members
of his own household.’

Anyone who loves his father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me; and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”

Once you realize the truth of what is going on in the world today, you will forever be set apart by God himself. And you will indeed be a TRUTH teller.

~ Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.

For at just the right time, while we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Therefore, since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from wrath through Him! For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! Not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned. For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin in the way that Adam transgressed. He is a pattern of the One to come.

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many! Again, the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment that followed one sin brought condemnation, but the gift that followed many trespasses brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive an abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

So then, just as one trespass brought condemnation for all men, so also one act of righteousness brought justification and life for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

The law came in so that the trespass would increase; but where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:1-21

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “Folks, you’re going to see in this passage again, the triplicate of faith, hope and love. If you remember when I was going to write our last Bible study at one of the last ones that we wrote, and it was going to be on love. And I thought, Well, that’ll be an easy one to to write. And I started getting into writing the Bible study. And I it was frustrating. I couldn’t write it. God wouldn’t let me complete the book on love. And I finally realized that the reason was that you cannot take love by itself. It’s a triplicate faith, hope and love. Paul has always commended you for your what? Faith, Hope and Love. Faith, hope and love. Why? Because you really can’t have one without the other. There. You have to separate one from the other, but you can’t have one without the other. But the fact is, they’re different, and yet they form one thing. And so in this passage, you’re going to see him talking about faith, and then you’re going to be talking about hope, and then you’re going to be talking about love. And so he’s saying here that we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, we’ve gained access by our faith into this grace that we stand. We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, and not only so, but we rejoice in our sufferings.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:27
You’re not guided by the law written on stone that kills. You’re guided by the Spirit who is alive, living in you that gave you life. The law did its work, we studied that. What was the purpose of the law? To show you your sinfulness in order to lead you to Christ. The law is a mirror. What’s the purpose of the mirror to wash your face? No to show you it’s dirty. But a mirror doesn’t wash your face. Is a mirror necessary, if you want to see if your face is dirty or not, it is, if you don’t care, it has no meaning to it. But if you suddenly come to a point where you’re wondering whether your face is dirty or not, you look in a mirror and you see it is but a mirror can’t wash it. And that’s where you hear a tapping on your shoulder, and you turn around and there’s Jesus saying, Bob, did you see what was revealed in the mirror? Yes, I did. Do you want me to cleanse you? Yes, I do. And we turn and are saved, cleansed of all unrighteousness and indwelt by the Spirit of God. That’s salvation. We enter into that by faith and by faith alone. You don’t enter into that by an ounce of works. You enter into that by faith. Faith, and by faith alone. And so in as much as we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access to this by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character and character, hope.

Folks, you’re going to see in this passage again, the triplicate of faith, hope and love. We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, and not only so, but we rejoice in our sufferings.

Now I want to deal with this for just a moment, in regard to rejoicing in our sufferings. How many of you have ever had sufferings of any kind? Is that all of us, or if some of you escaped it, if you’ve escaped it, just give it time. In this world, Jesus said you are going to have what? Tribulation. Now, that’s a promise. So if you haven’t had it yet, just wait, because you are going to have it in this world. You will have tribulation. In this world, you will have suffering. You may lose a loved one, you may lose a romance. You may lose the love of your husband or the love of your wife, you may have a child that rejects you and goes off into no man’s land. You may lose your job, your work, you may lose your health, which some people do. You may lose your mobility, as some people do. You may lose your voice, you may lose your eyesight, you may lose your hearing. There’s all kinds of things in this world where we have tribulation. Am I right or wrong? I’ve told people, if you’re married in this room, look at your mate, because unless you die together in an accident, one of the other you’re going to look at one another in a casket someday. It’s just that simple. One of you are going to look at the other one in a casket that’s going to be called tribulation, trials, hardships. And Jesus said, In this world, you’re going to have them. When sin entered into this world, death entered into this world, trials entered into this world, tribulation entered into this world, to the point it says, Even all nature groans for its redemption, the whole world is fallen, and we’re a part of that fallen race, until we’re born again into a newness of life, living in that fallen race, but as a light to that fallen race. And so he said, You’re going to have suffering.

Now we had, I don’t know about you, when I came to Christ back in the 60s, it was kind of come to Jesus, and everything’s going to be wonderful. No more problems, no more trials, no more tribulation. Did you? Did any of you go through that as well? That doesn’t last long, does it? And we find out that’s not true at all. But he said something about suffering. When I enter into something that causes me to suffer, if I begin to look at that circumstance from God’s perspective, and I begin to think in my own life to say, Why am I going through this suffering? Is there a purpose for this? And we grab a hold of a verse of Scripture that says, I will cause all things to work together for good, to those who love the Lord and to those who are called according to His purpose. You see friends, it’s only when we look back after we’ve watched God’s faithfulness that we look back and say, I now see why I went through that. I now see it. I didn’t see it when I was going through it, but I see it now. Now you’re never going to see that if you’re not looking at things from God’s perspective, and this can be some of the worst things that you’ll ever go through in life, but if you will hang in there, trusting God and trusting the Lord Jesus Christ to do precisely what he said he would do in your life. I will cause all things to work together for your good, if you love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.

And so we have attitudes that we can approach suffering. I can approach suffering with an attitude of God and His promises, God, in His faithfulness, I can approach this regardless what I’m going through. I know because God has promised me that in his time, he will cause this to work together for my good, for what is good for me. He will cause it to work together for that purpose. Or we can say, Woe is me. And I’ve had people who are Christians who say, How could God allow this to happen to me? And in essence, what they’re saying is, how could God allow this to happen to wonderful me. I mean, I know God loves me, but no wonder I love me too. And we say, How could this happen? And you say, What’s wrong with you man? Did you see what happened to his Son? Did you see what happened to the Apostle Paul? Did you see what happened to the apostles who were the ones who carried this gospel to you and me. All of them died a horrible death, except John, who died in exile. Why would we think that we’re going to escape trials and tribulation when Jesus didn’t or nor did His early church, or his early apostles, and so that’s a mindset that, quite frankly, escapes me sometimes, is, why do people want to blame God mainly for our own stupid decisions that we’ve made? And yet we blame God. How can God do that? Well, very easy. He gave man a free will. How could God allow all of the Hebrews to be because he gave a free will to man. Well, how God is sovereign? I know He’s sovereign, and in His sovereignty, he gave a free will to man. That’s part of his sovereignty is, I’m not going to make a robot out of you. I’m going to create a man who can choose. I don’t want a man that has to love me. I want a man who chooses to love me. I don’t want to marry a woman who has to love me. I want to marry a woman who chooses to marry to love me, don’t you? Didn’t you? So God, in His sovereignty, created a man with a choice, and man has been making choices every since. Adam and Eve made a choice in the Garden of Eden. God didn’t force him to do that. If he did, he’s a sadistic God, who knew that he was going to choose and force them to choose to fall so that this world could be screwed up for 1000s of years, He created them to live in dependency upon God, which they did, until the day that they decided that Adam decided he would kind of add to what God told him and and Eve decided she had believed what Satan said instead of God or her husband, and man fell, and we’ve been in that fallen state ever since.

And so we have to understand the truth that God gave us a choice, and the problems that we see in the world today are a result of choices that man makes when they decide, I don’t need God to determine right and wrong. The one single choice, the one tree in the garden of Eden was, this is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and Adam and Eve don’t try to even think about eating from that one, because on the day you do, you are going to die the day you decide that I don’t. You don’t need me to determine right from wrong and good from evil. You’re going to die. Anything else, folks that trees are available to you. Any other choice you want to make, go ahead, because I’ll work all those things together for good on that one you try to make that one, you’ve had it.

What are we kind of a generation do we live in today that’s getting worse and worse and worse? This country is going downhill faster than you could ever dream or imagine, as we bring intolerance of everything, and you have the homosexual community as an example with inserts into the Dallas times. Did you all see that? Pages of it to get people to have an acceptance of perverted behavior. What is that? That’s man standing at the guard at the tree and saying, God, you don’t know what’s right and wrong. You just don’t understand. You just don’t understand. Well, the issue is is, yes, I do understand, and I understand that when I say that something is sin, that means it’s sin. And if I call something sin, don’t call it something to be tolerated. That’s man, man standing at the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, saying, I don’t need you God, I have situational ethics. And if you just, if you’ll just get it accepted, if we just get it out there and get everybody accepting, why then nobody will criticize me. And I want to tell you, folks, the last place of a movement. I don’t care what movement it is, but a movement to discredit what God said is sin is the Church of Jesus Christ, and that’s the next battleground, and it’s taking place in history right now, where we bring in ministers, and we bring in elders, and we bring in everything who are out of a background of sin. How many of us have sinned? All of us have sinned. I’m not zeroing in on one sin, but if I ever came down and said, fornication is okay, adultery is okay, stealing isn’t bad, either, lying is okay, cheating is okay, worshiping idols, that’s okay. You ever get down to that, folks, you’ve had it.

Bob George 14:20
You may not be able to live up to what God says is good, but don’t ever deny that good is good. Whenever we start denying truth, we are on the road to destruction. And so I have, I have worked with people out of different backgrounds. And I’ve said, anybody that comes in and says, Well, no, that’s not sin, it’s an alternate lifestyle. I said the conversation’s over. To a person who comes in and says, I’m I’m involved. I’m involved in a illicit relationship with some other woman, and it’s eating my lunch. I. And I want help. You’ll sit and work with that person till hell freezes over. A person that comes in says, Oh, that’s not bad. That’s just another lifestyle. You’re going to have to say, I’m sorry. We don’t have anything to talk about. I can’t communicate with you because you’re refusing truth. And the only way that you’re going to be free is to know truth and let truth set you free. And that’s why we have tribulation in this day. Is Man denying what truth is. And so in this world, he said, we’re going to have suffering. We can take the self pity attitude some people take suicide, let the despair go into the point where they commit suicide. And in essence, the attitude of that is they’ve hurt me so bad, I’ll show them, I’ll just kill myself. Why me? How come God allowed this to happen? We get angry at God.

What are all these signs of? They’re signs of having no character. That’s what it said. Suffering produce perseverance. Perseverance produces character. Your suffering. It says under suffering, you’re either going to have perseverance. And what it means is persevering with God. It does not mean I’m going to go to man to find out the solution to my problems. It means I’m going to trust God in the midst of what I’m going through to cause it to work together for my good, whatever it is, I’m going to trust God to work it together for my good. I’m going to persevere and hang in with God regardless. Hve any of you been through those things? I have, and I’m sure you have as well. And I can remember times in my life where I was in such discouragement despair. Now, when I had a tought one time that popped into my mind, I think I need to go get a Prozac or something. And brother, God zapped me in the head, and in that moment, I said, God, I don’t care if I die in this hurt and pain, I’m not going to compromise coming to you for a pill from Eli Lilly, and it broke like that. It’s whether you’re going to trust God with your heart aches and your pain, or are you going to trust Eli Lilly? Now I know this isn’t popular with some people who especially are engaged with Eli Lilly, but I also know that you got two options. I can either trust God, and I’m talking about normal trials and tribulation that we go through. I can either trust God to calm my heart and to bring peace to my soul, or I can go trust an outside source, but I can’t trust them both.

And so the issue to me comes, how are we going to observe suffering in our life. How are we going to do it? That last song that we sang, a beautiful song about, how do you handle suffering? How do you handle that? My friends, the way you handle that is Lord Jesus, I know I’m going through trials and tribulation. Sometimes I brought it on myself, and I’d like to beat myself to death for what I did, but I can’t. It’s over. It’s done, and so I’m going to press on to the high calling of Christ, Jesus, and I’m going to trust you with the results. As tough as they are, I’m going to trust that you will do exactly what you promised me. You’ll cause them to work together for good.

Always remember Dr Criswell, you know, always be, always be very, very grateful to him for what he taught me one day when he said, Bob, anything that causes you to lay flat on your face before God turns out to be a blessing. And that is true, because when you’re flat on your face before God, you’re given up, and you’re saying, God, I can’t. And he says, I know, but I can. And so it gets down to, how are we going to perceive Do you want character? Do we want to have Christian character that hangs in there in the midst of all circumstances, like Job, and finally says, though the whole world curse me, I’ll bless God, or do we want to give up on God and act like he isn’t there? Those are choices that man can make. But God says, If you’ll use the suffering that you go through. It will produce in you, if, if what we’ve talked about, you have peace with God. I’m justified with God. I’m a child of the living God. My destiny is secured. I know where I’m going. I know where I am, and therefore, with these trials and tribulations that I’m going through, I’m going to trust you, Lord, I’m going to trust you.

There are many times I have asked people, who are you trusting for your eternal life? One of these days you’re going to die, and in case you haven’t figured out, that’s a pretty severe problem. Who are you trusting with that? Oh, Jesus. Are you trusting the Christ that when you die, you’re going to be absent? Oh, absolutely. Well, then if you can trust God with such a huge thing as where you’re going to spend eternity when you fall dead, don’t you think that you might be able to trust him with this problem that you’re going through right now, and the answer that is, well, yeah, yeah, I can. Well, then why don’t we trust him? Then why don’t we trust him? Why? What will it do? It builds character. I’m going to persevere with God. I’m going to hang in there with God. I’m not going to turn my back on him and run to somebody else. I’m going to trust God. The Bible tells us don’t seek the counsel of the ungodly. And I said, When are Christians going to get a hold of that? And many times, when we run into a problem, we run out to some secular psychiatrist that doesn’t know the Lord from an apple tree and to try to get advice from somebody who doesn’t have any wisdom, and we do it in the name of God. Say, God sent me. No, he didn’t you sent you. Don’t seek the counsel of the ungodly, it says. And where are you going to find Godly counsel? I’ll tell you the best place I know to find it is in what’s called the Bible, and you’ll get the best advice that you can ever find out of this Bible when you’re trusting the Holy Spirit of God, who lives in you, to reveal the meaning of it to you.

Suffering, when you hang in there with God. It produces perseverance. I’m persevering with God. What does that perseverance produce? Christian character. It’s the kind of thing that you look at people and say, That person has character. They’re strong in the Lord. They trust Jesus, and they’re strong in the Lord. We know people like that strong in the Lord. And then it says that kind of character produces what? Hope. And it says that this kind of hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by what? The Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Now, what are we told here? I have given you my Holy Spirit. I have poured out my love into your heart. So the love that I gave you is in your hearts. It’s there, and it isn’t going to disappoint you. You have faith in Christ, you have hope and you have love. The hope doesn’t disappoint us because of the love of God. Why do I have hope in God? Because I have his love living in me. That’s why I have hope, because I live convinced of something, and so do you. And what are we convinced of? I’m convinced that nothing can separate me from the love of God. Trials can’t that’s what we’re just talking about. Tribulation can’t, death can’t. No in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us and gave himself for us for I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Now, folks, when we come to a point in our hearts, whereas by faith, we understand something. I’m not talking about blind faith. I’m not talking about, oh, I got faith. Faith doesn’t have any meaning to it at all unless you got your faith in the object, which is Jesus. Faith is like swallowing. People could say, Well, you got to swallow to live. And you say, Well, yeah, that’s true, until you think about it and say, Well, no, it isn’t true, because I could also swallow poison and die using the same mechanism that I swallow food to live. So swallowing does not enable me to live. Swallowing food enables me to live. If I swallow poison, I’ll die. So faith is like swallowing. It’s not the swallowing that’s the issue. It’s what are you swallowing? And when you and I have our faith in the One who loved us and gave himself for us, Jesus Christ, we have a faith worthy of our life, and it will disappoint us, because we become convinced of something that nothing can separate us from the love of God.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless. Christ died for who? The ungodly. Christ didn’t come to die for good people because there aren’t any. Jesus said, Why do you call Me good? Only God is good. And if you’re not going to call me God, don’t call me good. We’re not born in this world good people. Oh, we say good person, then you can say, well, they’re a nice person, a good hearted person, but Jesus said there wasn’t any good people. So he didn’t come to die for good people. He came to die for who? For the ungodly. Very rarely. It says, Will anyone die for a righteous man. Though for a good man, someone might possibly dare to die, but God demonstrates His own love for us in the while we were still sinners, Christ died for us when we were lost, Christ died for us. That’s love, isn’t it, folks. Since we have now been justified by His blood. You say, What does that mean? Well, in Leviticus, 17:11, it tells us the life of the creature is in the blood. So this is just another way of saying, since we have now been justified by His life, remember we are reconciled by his death, justified by His life. How much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him? Folks, what is the wages of sin from God’s vantage point? Death. It’s not a paddling. It’s not going to the wood shed. It’s not being out of fellowship. The wages of sin is death period, the only place you ever see in the Scripture, death and we have been freed from the consequence of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is life in Christ Jesus.

Jesus Came to Save Sinners

Listen to the Salvation message today!

Stand on the firmness of truth. Don’t keep going back and forth. Thank Him that the forgiveness issue is settled.

Let’s pray together:

  • Lord Jesus,
  • I thank you for taking away my sins on the cross,
  • never ever to see them again.
  • Having done that, I now thank you for giving me eternal life,
  • through your resurrection.
  • I now receive that life.
  • And I am going stand in the fact that I am a child of the living God.
  • In Jesus Holy name I pray.
  • Amen

All believers are now brothers and sisters in Christ.
