Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P22 (12-02-24)

As a New Creation, The Old Man is Dead, The New Man is Alive in Christ Jesus

~ For if we have become united in the likeness of His death, certainly also we will be of the resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, so that the body of sin might be annulled, that we are no longer enslaved to sin. For the one having died has been freed from sin. Romans 6:5-7

When a person places faith in Jesus, the Spirit of God comes to take up residence in them. Prior to that, we are Man without the Spirit of God living in us. After new birth, we are Man WITH the Spirit of God living in us. He made us a New Creation in Christ Jesus. The Old has gone, behold all things have become NEW! And because of that He begins the process of HIM renewing our minds, He gets us to realize the lies of the world in which we live today. We were once a slave to sin, but now we are slaves to righteousness. He set us free from the Law of Sin and Death, and brought us forth to the newness of Life. It’s His Life living in us, and we start seeing with His eyes, and hearing with His ears. We start thinking with His mind living in and through us.

The more we abide in the Holy Spirit, the more things become clearer and clearer about God and the world in which we live. There will come times in a person’s life, where we will say, “How come I never noticed that before? How come I never noticed what the word of God had actually said? How did I not see what was right before my eyes?” And there will be periods of emotions of Thanksgiving in our hearts towards God, where we realize the Truth of what is going on today, because He has revealed the Truth to us. Yet many will not understand. They will think of you as crazy or weird thinking, and no matter how much you tell people of what is happening, they will not believe you, nor will they understand the Truth of the word of God. For they give lip service to Truth.

Yet we were all born into a world of great deception. And for anyone to be set free from that deception they must be made a New creature in Christ Jesus, they must be born again of the Holy Spirit of God. That is first and foremost the most important thing to occur in a person’s life. Place faith in Jesus today for Life eternal.

Luke 18:18,19
18 And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

~ What then will we say? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Never may it be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Or are you unaware that as many as have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised up out from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have become united in the likeness of His death, certainly also we will be of the resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, so that the body of sin might be annulled, that we are no longer enslaved to sin. For the one having died has been freed from sin.

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised up out from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer rules over Him. For that which He died, He died to sin once for all; but that which He lives, He lives to God. So also you, consider yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but living to God in Christ Jesus.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, in order to obey its desires. Neither yield your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but yield yourselves to God, as living out from the dead, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sin will not rule over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? Never may it be! Do you not know that to whom you yield yourselves as slaves for obedience, you are slaves to him whom you obey, whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness? But thanks be to God that you who were slaves of sin have now become obedient from the heart to the pattern of teaching to which you were committed. And having been set free from sin, you have become slaves to righteousness.

I speak in human terms on account of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you yielded your members in bondage to impurity and to lawlessness unto lawlessness, so now yield your members in bondage to righteousness unto sanctification.

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free from righteousness. What fruit, therefore, did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now, having been set free from sin, and having become slaves to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:1-23

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “Now, who was I before I was saved back in 1969? I was Bob George without spiritual life. I had life, but not spiritual life. I was Bob George, dead in my sins and the uncircumcision in my sinful nature. I was Bob George without the Spirit of God living in me. That’s who I was. That was my identity. When I came to Christ in 1969 I became a new creation. If any man be in Christ, he’s a what? A brand new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things become new. Who am I today? Bob George with the Spirit of God living in me. Who was I before? Bob George, without the Spirit of God living in me. Where is that guy? He’s dead as a hammer. He’s gone. There is no more. Bob George, without the Spirit of God living in me, he’s gone. I’m a new creation. Now, that’s what he said. I died to sin. I died to my unbelief. Then how can I live in my unbelief any longer? How can I live as an unbeliever? How can I live anymore not knowing what God says and what God means, or not paying any attention to it? And the issue is well, you can’t. Why? Because you’re a believer today, if you’re truly born again. So I can’t live in that anymore.

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized are placed into Christ. Now again, how did that happen? God came to live in us through Christ, Jesus. That’s Christ in you, your hope of glory. And if the Spirit of God does not live in you, what? You don’t belong to Him. So there’s only one way to be born again, and that’s to be born again of the Spirit. And that’s why you don’t be BORN AGAIN of the Spirit today and then receive the Spirit tomorrow as some people teach, that’s an impossibility. There aren’t two spirits. If you’re born again, you’re born again of the Spirit. Jesus comes by, His Spirit takes up residence in your heart. Then what did the Spirit do? The Spirit of God baptized us into the body of Christ. That’s me in Christ now. Christ in me, me in Christ. So all of us were placed into the Body of Christ. We have one head, that’s Jesus. You and I are the body. And although the body has many parts. They form one body. Do we understand that? You’re a part of the body of Christ, Jesus, here on this earth, He is your head, and you’re the body. So all of us were placed into Christ just as we were placed or baptized into his death. Now what does that mean? When I came to Christ, I accepted what Christ, Jesus did for me at the cross. How did he pull that off? He had to die for the forgiveness of my sins. He had to take the punishment that was due to me on himself. And there he who knew no sin became sin for me so that I could become the righteousness of God in him.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:27
So the judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation. Now, what is the condemnation of God for sin? Are we all together? What’s the condemnation of God for sin? Death. So judgment followed one sin and brought death or condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if by the trespass of one man, death reigned through that one man. How much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the One Man, Christ, Jesus, consequently, in other words, as a result now. Just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. Did you notice what he says that brings what? Life. Why do you need life? Because you’re dead, you’re dead. And folks, unfortunately, that is a teaching that you very seldom hear. Even in evangelical circles, we talk about your being a sinner and you need forgiveness. Nobody talks about the fact you’re dead as a hammer and you need life. But that’s the issue of salvation. The issue of salvation is not forgiveness, even though sin had to be taken away and forgiveness had to be provided for all people in order to give you eternal life. But the whole issue of salvation is life. So it’s justification that brings life for all men, for just as through the disobedience of one man, the many were made sinners. So also through the obedience of One Man, the many will be made righteous.

Now the law was added so that the trespass might increase. The law was put into effect, so that you and me will see that our trespasses are increasing, but where sin increased, Grace increased all the more. In other words, you can’t out sin the grace of God. Some of us have tried, but you can’t do it. So that just as Sin reigned in death. Now, how does sin reign in death? If you’re under the condemnation of the wages of sin, which is death, sin is reigning in your life. Do we understand, as long as you’re under the condemnation of the death penalty, sin is going to reign in your life. So also grace may reign. So just as Sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Now guys, as we go up, I want you just for a minute to look at your Bible and go up to verse 14 in chapter six here, because that’ll all tie in to what we’re dealing with. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. Now folks, again, do we all know what that says? Anyone here that doesn’t know what that says? If you don’t know what it says, we’ll read it again. Sin shall not be your master. Why? Because you’re not under the law, but under grace. Now the issue is, what does that mean? What do you think that means? If sin is your master because you’re under the law and sin shall no longer be your master because you’re not under the law, then if you’re under the law, sin is your master. Do we understand what it’s saying here? If sin shall not be your master because you’re not under the law, it means that if you are under the law, sin is your master. Are we together on that? Is there any doubt and meaning to what this is? If you’re under the law, my friends, sin is your master. Why? Because if you’re under the law, the wages of sin is what? Death. And therefore you are reigning in sin. Sin is reigning in your life, because always dangling out here is the fear of death.

And so this whole passage is trying to get us to see that you must get free from the law if you’re ever going to live in the newness of life under grace in Christ Jesus. You cannot do it under the law. You cannot be controlled by the Spirit and be controlled by Satan at the same time. And if you’re under the law, you’re controlled by Satan. Sin is your master. Who is the master of sin? Satan. When you’re under the law, you’re controlled by Satan. Now we like to pussy foot this, and we don’t think it’s politically correct to make these kind of statements, but I want to tell you, that’s what the Bible teaches, that the law has been perverted by Satan, that you’re no longer using the law. If you look at the law as that’s what God gave to me to show me I was sinful so that I would turn to Christ by faith. That’s fantastic. If you use that law for any other purpose, you’re being controlled by the one who perverted the gospel and perverted what law is, and that’s Satan. Paul was not politically correct when he talked about legalists. He said they’re perverting the gospel. And finally, well, we’ll get to that later. Let’s, let’s go into six now, chapter six. Now, why is he going into chapter six and seven, again, he’s going to answer three basic questions. In verse one, what shall we say then shall we go on sinning, and the grace may increase? Up in verse 15, what shall we say then, that we shall sin because we’re not under the law, but under grace? And then in chapter seven, what shall we say then is the law of sin? Three basic questions that obviously are going to pop into a person’s mind when they either are first introduced to the fact that you’re no longer under law, but under grace, or are adamant toward that teaching, or whatever the problem might be. He says, I’m going to address these basic questions to get them out of the way before we go on into chapter eight. There’s therefore now no condemnation awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus.

Shall what shall we say then? If this grace is so good at where sin increase, Grace increases all the more, and we all know how much we love God’s grace. Why? The which would should we say? Then should we just go on sinning so that Grace may increase, so the God’s grace can just keep flowing and flowing and flowing? And he says, by no means, by no means, he’s going to tell us something here, we died to sin. How can we live in it any longer? Now again, folks, let’s get back to this. Did he say you we died to sinning? He said, We died to what? Sin. What is sin? From God’s vantage point? That which is not of faith is sin, and without faith, it’s what? Impossible to please God. The root of all sinning is the sin that occurred at the in the Garden of Eden, of denying the truth that God had told us and accepting the lie of Satan. Is that, isn’t that where it all began? Isn’t that what sin is? I’m going to believe Satan and God, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Now, how did Satan deceive? He didn’t deceive by saying God didn’t say that. He said, Surely God didn’t mean this. See back to the meaning, surely he didn’t mean that, that you’ll surely die, especially Eve, since you talking about leaning on the tree that that God said, Don’t touch it. God didn’t say, don’t touch the tree. Adam told her, don’t touch it. He added to truth. I think Satan was just leaning on the on the tree, saying, See you, you don’t die. Surely he didn’t mean that. Now, folks, that is how Satan deceives you and me, every day of our lives is after one thing, and that is to try to convince you that surely God didn’t mean this. God didn’t mean this.

What shall we say? We’ll go on sinning. In other words, go on on our unbelief so the grace may increase. By no means we died to this unbelieving heart. We died to that you were born an unbeliever. Where the word repent is used in the Scripture, it’s not in relation to I used to smoke and now I don’t. Repentance was a total change of mind. I was an unbeliever. Now that does not mean that I did not give intellectual assent to Jesus, but I did not become a believer, meaning that Jesus died for me. In other words, we’ve personalized this gospel. I know he died on a tree. So does Satan. Satan knows he died on a cross. Satan knows he was raised from the dead. Hated every minute of it. So it’s not the case that Satan didn’t know those things. It’s a case they never internalized it. I knew those things too. I knew Jesus died on a cross. Believed it. How did I believe it? Well the same way I believed that a Lincoln was killed in a Ford theater. It was written down in history, and I believed it. I believed Lincoln was killed in Ford theater, do you? And and all that historical stuff. I believed all those things, but I didn’t know that it had an application to me. When it came down to the point where I realized Jesus died for me. Jesus took away my sins. Jesus was raised for me. I was dead, and Christ came to give me life. I came that you might have life. I am the way and the truth and the life. He who has the Son has life. He did that for me. And pretty soon, instead of this being a historical event, it becomes a personal event, and you say, thank you. Why do you say thank you? Because you just did something for me that I didn’t know. I knew about it, but I didn’t know you did it for me. And that’s when it becomes real.

Now, who was I before I was saved back in 1969? I was Bob George without spiritual life. I had life, but not spiritual life. I was Bob George, dead in my sins and the uncircumcision in my sinful nature. I was Bob George without the Spirit of God living in me. That’s who I was. That was my identity. How can I live as an unbeliever? How can I live anymore not knowing what God says and what God means, or not paying any attention to it? And the issue is well, you can’t. Why? Bob George 14:52
So I was placed into his death. I entered into that death, and I recognize. Death, my death. Jesus was born alive. He entered into my death with me, and I entered into his death as well. We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live what kind of a life? A new life, if we’ve been united with Him like this in his death. In other words, if we he entered into our death with us. We entered into his death as well. We identified ourselves with what he did for me. He died for my sins. I entered into that truth. We will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection, For we know that our old self was crucified with Him. Now, who was the old self? That was you without the Spirit of God living in you. What happened to that person? You’re crucified. He died. So that the body of sin might be done away with, or better rendered powerless. Is a better interpretation there. Your body of sin might be rendered powerless now and that we should no longer live to be slaves to sin, because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. I do not need to be a slave any longer to believing lies in essence. Can you be a slave to believing lies? If you’re a slave to alcohol, what are you believing? What are you believing? You’re believing a lie. Are you not? You’re believing a lie that this is going to do something for you, except make you drunk. When you when you have a habit that you know full well is a habit that is contrary to God. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit of God. He doesn’t want us to sticking smoke in it. He doesn’t want to stick and false stuff in it, drugs and all that kind of stuff. We know that Is that true or not? And we continue to do that, we’re a slave, in essence, to sin. Do we have to be a slave to sin? No. People say, I can’t. Oh yes, you can. Oh yeah, without question, you can. You’re no longer a slave to sin. It says that that has been rendered powerless. So it doesn’t have any power over you. Think it does, because Satan tells you, I got power over you, but the Bible says, No, you don’t. It doesn’t have power over you. And so it’s talking about here that we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be a slave to sin. Should we be a slave to believing lies? Can you be a slave to believing lies? How many of you seen on television some of these things, of these, this, this one girl that’s an anorexic that’s down to about 50 pounds. Have you seen that on television? Or a bulimic or anorexic down there? What does she what’s her problem? Anorexia, bulimia? Is that her problem? No, believing lies, believing a lie. Started off saying, well, it’s Hollywood’s fault. No, it isn’t. It’s your fault. Just because Hollywood says that everyone’s supposed to look like a rake doesn’t mean you got to look like a rake. And so you’re believing a lie. You’re believing a lie down there that I this is the way I’ve got to look to be accepted. Listen, forget about being accepted by man. You never are going to be accepted by everybody. Thank God you’re accepted by Jesus, and he doesn’t care whether you’re fat or skinny. Fact, I’ve never seen a picture of a skinny Angel,

But we believe a lie, and we think, Oh, this is what I got to look like. And so people starve themselves to death. This is insanity, and that that’s what people are doing all over the place, preoccupied with self, thinking about self constantly. What’s self look like? What’s self dressed like? What self, self, self? Wait till you get old? It won’t matter. You become a slave to sin, you become a slave to believing a lie. And you’ve got to be freed. If you’re a slave to something, you’ve got to be freed from slavery. And there’s only one person, my friends, that can free you from slavery, and that’s Jesus. And Jesus comes in and starts teaching you truth. And starts teaching what are you thinking this way? For? This is not the thinking the mindset that I’ve given you. This is the world’s mindset. And you begin to analyze that back and forth. And pretty soon, God gets a hold of your mind and you. End to start thinking with his thoughts instead of yours. And that’s when your mind begins renewed, and that’s when you start living, as it says here, a new life, not an old life, a new life. And so he says that you should no longer be a slave to sin. He says you can be but you should no longer be, because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. You’ve been freed from that. You’re going back voluntarily. Now, do you get guys? Do you get the message you have been freed from having to live as a slave to error. So when you’re believing error, you are intentionally and volitionally going back to believe error. You are volitionally saying, God, I don’t care what you’re saying, This is what I’m going to do. And the minute you’re into that, you are a slave back to save, a voluntary slave to Satan, letting him run your life and control your life volitionally. I I’m doing this, God, I’m doing this Satan, because I really like the results. Smart? No.

Now if we died with Christ, we believe it will also live with him. In other words, we entered into that spiritual death. We also entered into his spiritual life. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he can’t die again. Death no longer has mastery over him. The death that he died. He died to sin once and for all. How many times did Jesus die for the forgiveness of your sins? You hear people come along say, Well, I know Jesus died, you know, for my past sins, but what about my future sins? How many of you ever thought that? I know Jesus died from a past sin what about future sins? How many of your sins were in the future when he died for them 2000 years ago? Unless you’re pretty old, I think it’s all of them. He didn’t die twice. He was not the shedding of blood above a bull and goat. This was the shedding of the blood of God Himself, who went to a cross 2000 years ago and there took away the sins of the world. He isn’t going to die again. When he comes back, he says, I’m not coming to bear sin, but to bring salvation for those who are waiting for me. He did it once, and he did it for all, and he said, It is what? Finished. What does that mean? It means it’s finished. But the life He lives, He lives to God.

Now, in the same way he says, in some translations, say, reckon yourself dead to sin. We’d say that in Texas, I reckon so. But this means count it as such. Just count it as such. Count it as fact. Reckon yourself dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ, Jesus, I’m dead to believing these lies of Satan, and I’m alive to have in my mind renewed on the things of God. Therefore don’t let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Now, folks, here again, let’s just take a look at this. Can sin reign in your mortal body? Can it? Yeah. How? By obeying the evil desires that are created in you by Satan. Does Satan create evil desires in you? Now, when you get evil desires, you either can believe them or you can discount them, can’t you? Either one of the two, we got a choice there. All he’s saying here is, don’t let saying sin reign in these mortal bodies of ours. If you do, you’re going to be enslaved. Don’t offer parts of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness, but rather, offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought back from death to life, and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. Why? Because sin shall not be your master. Because you’re no longer under the law, but you’re under grace.

Now, folks in all of these things, is this one of these deals where God has said, Don’t do this, or is it here’s how you live your life? You see, he isn’t saying, Don’t do this and don’t do that and don’t do that. He’s saying, Do not let the sin of unbelief reign in your mortal body. You’re a believer in Christ now trust what he says. You have believed him for your salvation. Believe him for your walk in salvation. Do not trust the voice that comes in and tells you how to think and how to act, which is contrary to the Word of God. Let sin. Don’t let sin reign in our bodies. Let him reign. How does he reign? With truth. And that truth will do what? It’ll set us free. Well, the signal is here this time to quit. I appreciate whoever let that go off there.

So let’s, let’s pray together, Father, we thank you for the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for these instructions to us. They’re questions that we all ask. They’re questions that need answered, and I pray that as we continue to study together, that our hearts will be open to allow ourselves to become vessels through whom the living Christ can live and to reign. To be available to be able to say Lord Jesus, if you need eyes to see with, use mine. If you need a mouth to speak with, use mine. If you need a heart to love with, use mine. To be available to be Jesus Christ, to be available, to be loved by Him, and available to express that love to others. So Father, we thank you for these our brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you for the truth that you’ve given us, to set us free from the error that is constantly bombarding us in this world in which we live. Teach us Father to have discernment, to discern truth from error and good from evil in Jesus name Amen.
