Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P14 (10-29-24)
Self-Righteous is Always About What I am Doing, God’s Righteousness is About Jesus and What He Did
~ The self-righteous person today always comes up with things they need to be doing. They don’t focus on what Jesus God has done. They will come up with all types of things, and then when you confront them on how much do they have to do to be saved, or how much do they NOT have to do for God to not save them, or how many bad things can they do in order for God to declare them goners, they can never answer the question. Because the Truth of the matter is, that nothing less than perfection will do if a person is trying to live under the law. It’s not, do a little bit of this and a little bit of that, it’s about keeping the whole law of God, from the beginning of your life to the end of your life. And yet most people give lip service to the word of God, because they know in their hearts they cannot obey the law. And this goes for BOTH Hebrews and Gentiles. For they are all under condemnation. The wrath of God remains on ALL. God does not pick winners and losers based on how much a person does or doesn’t do. His plan of salvation is His, and you can either enter His plan of salvation by faith in Jesus for having done it ALL, or ignore God and try it your own way. But understand this, no one will be saved by obeying the law. Because everyone is under the curse of death today.
Now some folks don’t like hearing that. They don’t appreciate being called dead Man walking. They would rather gloss over that fact in the word of God and pretend their neighbor is a good person by what they do or don’t do. But God looks on the heart of people. He sees our innermost thoughts. He knows what we are thinking and he knows what we are believing in. He knows what we are trusting in, and He knows who we are trusting in. And many folks give lip service to the word of God in regards to trusting in Truth. We tend to live as though we have two life’s to live. One in the physical world, and then another in the spiritual world, as though it is okay to separate the two from each other. We tend to listen to the teaching of Man over that of the word of God.
So when the word of God says “there are none righteous, no not one,” [Romans 3:10] God is not demonizing people, but telling it like it is. For everyone falls short of the glory of God by themselves. But people will say, there must be a little bit of good in me or them, after all, I did this and did that for God or they did a little bit of “good.” Nope, that will not do. God’s word says “all our righteousness is as filthy rags” [Isaiah 64:6] and the filthy rags being talked about there are menstrual rags.
So the bottom line, is who are you going to trust, God or Man? Everyone is given a choice today, either believe God, or trust in the things of the world to save them, both in the physical realm as well as the spiritual realm.
~ What then is the superiority of the Hebrew [Ἰουδαίου (Ioudaiou)]? Or what is the benefit of the circumcision? Much in every way. For chiefly indeed, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God. What if indeed some disbelieved? Will their unbelief nullify the faithfulness of God? Never may it be! But let God be true, and every man a liar, as it has been written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and will prevail in Your being judged.” But if our unrighteousness shows God’s righteousness, what shall we say? God, inflicting the wrath, is unrighteous? I speak according to man. Never may it be! Otherwise, how will God judge the world? But if in my lie, the truth of God abounded to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? And is it not, as we are slanderously charged, and as some affirm us to say, “Let us do evil things that good things may come?” Their condemnation is just. What then? Are we better? Not at all. For we have already charged both Hebrews [Ἰουδαίους (Ioudaious)] and Greeks all to be under sin. As it has been written: “There is none righteous, not even one; there is none understanding; there is none seeking after God. All have turned away; together they have become worthless; there is none who is practicing good, there is not so much as one. Their throat is a grave having been opened; they keep practicing deceit with their tongues; the venom of vipers is under their lips, of whom the mouth is full of cursing and of bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery are in their paths; and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those under the Law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be under judgment to God. Therefore by works of the Law, not any flesh will be justified before Him; for through the Law is knowledge of sin. But now apart from Law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, being borne witness to by the Law and the Prophets. And the righteousness of God is through faith from Jesus Christ toward all those believing. For there is no distinction, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, for a showing forth of His righteousness, because of the forbearance of the sins having taken place beforehand, in the forbearance of God, for the showing forth of His righteousness in the present time, for Him to be just, and justifying the one of the faith of Jesus. Where then is boasting? It has been excluded. Through what principle? That of works? No, but through the principle of faith. Therefore we reckon a man to be justified by faith apart from works of the Law. Or is He the God of Hebrews [Ἰουδαίων (Ioudaiōn)] only, not also of Gentiles? Yes, also of Gentiles, since indeed God is the One who will justify the circumcision by faith and the uncircumcision through the same faith. Do we, then, nullify the Law through faith? Never may it be! Instead, we uphold Law. Romans 3:1-31
Pray to God:
Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7
Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”
~ “Well, again, all of that comes down to righteousness. I am a righteous person because of what? What I am doing. Now think about this, folks, if you are righteous because of what you are doing, then how much do you have to do that thing in order to become righteous, and how little do you have to do before you’re unrighteous? And I want to tell you something. There is not a man on the face of the earth that can answer those questions. It’s like salvation. If my salvation was dependent upon what I do, then you’re going to have to answer the question, how much do you have to do before you’re saved, and how little do you have to do before you’re lost? And again, there’s not a person on the face of the earth that can answer that question, not a one, not a one. And so man has tried to desperately, because we do not understand that, salvation, righteousness, justification, all of those things have to come from God. They are not initiated from me to God. They come from God to me. No man is righteous. Do we understand that guys? The Gentile, all of you out there that are Gentile, none of you were ever righteous. Anyone out there that’s Hebrews, you weren’t righteous either you thought you were because you were trying to keep the law, and that’s what we thought. In my mind, I’m keeping the law, therefore I’m righteous. I’m doing good, therefore I’m righteous. I give to the poor, therefore I’m righteous. Nothing wrong with those things. They’re nice to do. It just doesn’t make you righteous in the sight of God. Why? Because if it did, then the question would have to be answered. How much do you have to do to be made righteous? How much do you have to give to the poor? Well, I gave $1,000 well, I gave two so I’m more righteous than you are. Isn’t that right? And so you can’t answer those questions. And so he’s saying there is no one who is righteous. There is no one who understands. You can’t understand. You didn’t initiate salvation. You didn’t tell God how to save people. He said no one understands. He even said no one really even seeks God. All have turned away. Now, what if we’re not seeking God? What time? What are we seeking? We’re seeking mostly approval from man, and I’m doing good, so that I’ll get petted on the head my man saying, Hey, you’re doing good, but you say to really seek God and to really find approval in the sight of God. He said, Here anybody really doing that?” ~ Bob George

And so that is where man thought I am righteous. If a man was sitting around saying, I don’t commit adultery, I don’t steal, then when Jesus entered into the scene, he had to get underneath the skin to where people live, and that’s where Jesus said, Look, you are clean on the outside, but I look on the heart. And guys, this is the same thing that we have such confusion today in regard to prayer, people think that God is listening to what we say, and if that is true, that the only time God listens to us is when we are speaking out loud, why in the world would we ever pray quietly? And why in the world would we ever say, let’s have a round of silent prayer if the only thing he listens to is what we verbalize? Now, God does not care whether we speak in English or German or Japanese or Indonesian, as the guys were here last week, or whatever language he didn’t listen to what you’re talking about anyway. He’s too smart to listen to what we say, because what we say is very seldom a reflection of what’s going on under the skin. Am I right or wrong? And that’s why, when someone asks you how you are, when your guts are hanging at you, say, great, great. Well, your words are not expressing truth, they’re expressing a lie. God doesn’t listen to our lies. He listens to our heart. And God doesn’t need an interpreter sitting up in heaven with a united nation interpreter to find out what somebody said. So it doesn’t make any difference someone speaking in English, German or Babylon in tongues, he isn’t listening to what you’re saying anyway. He’s looking at your heart, prayer, biblical prayer, is from the heart, from my heart to him. And that is period. He is not listening to what we’re saying. He’s listening to our hearts. Do we understand the truth of that? How many of you have ever sat in your heart talking to God and never open in your mouth. How many have ever done that? Isn’t that stupid if he only listens to you when you’re talking? So you see, we are so contradictory in our belief system, we talk out of both sides of our mouths. But the issue is that what God listens to is the attitude of a man’s heart, what’s going on in the skin. Now, how does he do that? I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going on in your heart at all. I can’t tell, but God can. And that’s what we depend upon, isn’t it? Is that type of a situation?
Well, again, all of that comes down to righteousness. He said, Here anybody really doing that?
He said, All have turned away. They have together, become worthless. That’s that isn’t politically correct. He shouldn’t be saying that about us. No, he said, we’ve become worthless. There is no one who does good. Now we think we’re doing good, and there’s some good thing be said, not even one, not even one. He goes ahead with his description of us. And again, today, people are so sensitive, untouchy. You. know, if a Jewish person said, Bob, you’re a Goya, you think I’d get insulted. That’s what they call Gentiles. Goya is get insulted. No, but some people ooh, ooh? I made a statement on a radio the other day, somebody was calling in about cremation, and and I was saying, Well, what would that matter? If you were on the airplane at 911 you would have been cremated. So what does it make a difference what happens to your body when you die? It’s all going to the dust. Anyway. You came from the dust. You’re going to go to the dust. It doesn’t matter whether you’re burnt or whether you just fade away through worm food. You’re returning to the dust and and, and I said, and some people get cremated because of the expense of it, because funerals are expensive. And that’s all I said, was, funerals are expensive, so some people choose that. And then I also said it Amy, and I had thought about that at one time. And you know, we kind of have in our will that we donated the parts of our body for research until you get so darn old that they’re not any good anyway. So nobody want them, but, so I’m going to give up on that one. But I said, you know, our kids said, Oh, Mom and Dad, we can’t stand the thought of you guys being burnt, so we probably won’t do that. That’s what I said. I got a call from some guy just insulted. He’s in a he’s in that business, and he was insulted. And I’d say that at expense he were at funerals were expensive, and because ours aren’t.
So he says again, that no one does good, not even one. He says, our throats are like open graves. Their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. It’s not a real good description, is it? Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood, ruin and misery mark their ways, and they find and the way of peace. They do not know the way of peace. They do not know. Do you know folks that one of the things that probably we may not recognize it, but that we want in our hearts more than anything else, is peace, to have a peaceful heart, just to be able to live in peace. Now, if you go over to Israel as an example, you will find people over there, and our guide, when we took tours over there, was a man who had been in all of the wars, and he was really ready to compromise anything, just to have some peace, peace and quiet and and that’s what we’re looking for, is peace. And when we don’t have it, it’s kind of disruptive to us, but it says that you’re never going to have the peace of God until you experience peace with God, you’ll never experience the peace of God until you have peace with God. And so he is saying the peace. They don’t know anything about this thing called peace in your heart. There’s no fear of God before their eyes. In other words, there’s no respect when you’re talking about fear in the Bible, Paul, as an example, said when I came to you, I did not come to you with brilliant words and lofty ideas, but I came to you with fear and trembling because I wanted your faith to stand not on some man’s great ideas, but upon God and His Word. And so it’s a way of saying respect and fear. It’s like the ocean. I love the ocean, but I have great respect for it. I don’t want to get out in it too deep, but I love it. And there it is. I love God, but I also have great respect for him and awe of him. So he said, there’s no fear of God in their eyes.
Now we know that whatever the law says Now he’s going to be talking again about the law, whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law. Now, Who’s he talking to there, folks? Is he talking to the lost or the saved? Who’s under the law? The Well, the Hebrews were under the law. Were they lost or saved? He’s talking to people who are under the law are lost. Now, what was the purpose of the law? The purpose of the law was to show us our sinfulness so that we would turn to God by faith for salvation. And once we have turned to him, it says we are no longer under the supervision of the law. So who’s the law for? The lost. So he’s saying that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, how come? So that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Now what is he saying here? The law is speaking to the lost, who are bragging on the fact that they are keeping the law and that they are under the law and they are keeping the law. And he says, This is what it is speaking to. In order to shut your mouth, I’m going to show you that you have nothing to be talking about. And that’s exactly and precisely what Jesus did. He came and showed us you don’t have anything to be talking about. The law says, don’t commit adultery. I say, I look on your heart. And if a man looks at a woman with lust in his heart, heart, he’s already committed adultery, and a man says, uh-oh. He said, The law says I shall not commit murder, but I say unto you that if you’re angry at somebody, you’ve already committed murder in your heart. And we say, then I’ve had it. And he said, now you got it. When you’ve had it, you got it. And so he said, the purpose of the law is to show you what God’s righteousness is, and to show you what your righteousness is not Are we together? You don’t have any righteousness. Now you’re using the law to make people think that you’re righteous. But I look on your heart and I’m telling you, there’s no one righteous. No Not one. And so the purpose of the law is to for those who are under the law in order to shut your mouth and to realize that the whole world has now been made accountable to God, silenced and the whole world held accountable to God, the Gentile world, the Hebrew world, the religious world, the non religious world held accountable to God in this day and age, Catholics, Baptists, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, you name it, you’re all accountable to God. You’ve all been reduced to one level, dead. I don’t care where you park your body on Sunday or on Saturday, you’re dead until you come alive.

Bob George 13:57
I have reduced the whole world to the position of death, whether you have the law or whether you don’t, is irrelevant. You’re dead. And that’s what he’s saying. Therefore, when you see a therefore, what’s it therefore? Because of what I just got through saying, therefore no one you get this, folks will be declared righteous in His sight. Now you notice whose sight you’re talking about. In his sight, we may be righteous in our own sight. Oh, I’m righteous. I’m a righteous dude. But he said, Nobody, nobody, nobody will ever be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law. Now, guys, you say, Well, what’s it there for? Well, we’ll talk about that in a minute. Do you understand that no man, how many of you ever tried to be righteous in the sight of God by observing the law? How many? How many have ever tried that? Yeah, did it work? And you knew it, didn’t you. You knew this wasn’t working, but you keep trying.
Rather, it’s through the law that we become conscious of what? Of sin. Folks, when the 10 Commandments were taken down recently in that courthouse, what is the world trying to do by destroying what is Satan trying to do by destroying the set 10 Commandments? What’s he trying to accomplish on that by taking them away? What’s he trying to accomplish? Well, if I can make people not conscious of their sin, they’ll never come to Jesus, because the only way someone’s going to come to Jesus is if their conscience that they need Jesus, right? And if I don’t know I’m dead, I certainly am not going to seek life. If I don’t know I’m a sinner or I’m just not conscious of the fact that I’m a sinner, I wouldn’t turn to Him for forgiveness, would I? And so through the elimination and the alleviation of what God says, the alleviation of the 10 Commandments, you have annihilated man’s ability to make them conscious of their sin. Do we understand that? And so he’s saying there that the through the law, we become conscious of our sin. Now, when I’m conscious of my sin, I also need to be conscious of the consequence of sin, which is death.
So he says, a righteousness from God, apart from the law, has been known with to which the law and the prophets testify. So here he’s saying that there is a righteousness, and where there’s the emphasis a righteousness where? From God, not from you, from God, a righteousness from God. And he says that that’s apart from the law has been made known to which the law and prophets testify. So he’s talking about the fact that the law of Moses and the prophets now a righteousness from God, apart from the law, has been made known to which the Old Testament testifies. So it talks about that, and this righteousness comes. Here’s the words again, where? From God. Not from us, from God. And it comes through what? Faith in Jesus Christ, to how many that believe? All Hebrew and Gentile alike, he reduced us all to one level, and said, There’s one way that you’re going to be saved Hebrew and Gentile, and that’s by faith in the Messiah. To the Hebrew that they knew, who that they knew the Messiah, they knew about him, and to the Gentile who just comes to Jesus. Reduced those all to one level lost, and offer salvation to both through who? Christ, Jesus and folks. That’s why there is no other name given among men whereby you must be saved. It makes no difference whether you’re Hebre or Gentile, slave or free, you’re dead. The biggest problem that Hebrew people have is they look at the opposite of a Hebrew as being a Christian. Nothing could be further from the truth. The opposite of a Hebrew is a Gentile, and you got dead Gentiles and you got dead Hebrews, and you got saved Gentiles, and you got saved Hebrews. And until they understand the truth of that, they always are looking at the opposite of a Hebrew is Christian. So you’re trying to convert me from being a Hebrew to becoming a Gentile. That’s an essence what they think. But the essence of the reality of that is you don’t you lose your Hebrew heritage when you come to Christ, you’re still Hebrew born, and you’re still Gentile born, but you’ve been born from above by God, a new creation called a child of the living God. And so he’s saying that there’s a righteousness now, not that you can earn on your own, but a righteousness from God that has been made known, to which the law and the prophets testify.
Now this righteousness, and again, is that word from God. And you keep seeing this from God. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ, to how many that believe all there’s no difference. He says, no difference between the Hebrew and the Gentile. And folks, when you’re reading a scripture, recognize this is what he’s talking about, Hebrew and Gentile. There’s no difference between the two. All have sinned. What do you see? Talking about here, the Gentile world have sinned, the Hebrew world have sinned. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified freely by his grace, through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ. Redemption. Christ came to redeem us from our sins.
So you say, What’s redemption? How many of you have ever been to redemption center? How many of you remember green stamps and all those kind of stamps that we used to have? Remember those we used to save them. And where did we go? We went to a redemption center, didn’t we? And what’d we do? We turned in a bunch of stamps that were totally worthless and got a toaster. That’s redemption. I gave him everything that I am, nothing, and he gave me everything that he is, everything. I exchanged my life for his. I took upon himself, his life, so that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. I am crucified with Christ. Nevertheless I live yet not I but it’s Christ that lives in me, and the life that I live in is flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, the One who loved me and gave himself for me. It’s a total change of life. I give him me, he gives me him. And that’s what redemption is all about.
So it talks about the fact that is through His grace that I was redeemed by Jesus Christ, God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement. Now, folks, what I want you to do, if you’ve got your Bible, if any of you have the NIV or other Bibles, I want you to look down at the footnote in verse 25 now here again, is where translation comes in. Is Jesus a sacrifice of atonement? Who atone for sins? Bulls and goats. Atonement, The Day of Atonement was a Hebrew custom where they had to go to the Day of Atonement and slay a bull or a goat and spread the blood on the altar and atone for sin without the shedding of blood, there’s how much forgiveness? None. When 70 ad came along and Titus came and destroyed the temple in Jerusalem, there’s never been sacrifices since then. So I would have to ask the question, how do you get your sins forgiven, if without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness, and that’s in the Old Testament, how do you get your sins forgiven when there’s no more shedding of blood? You got me.
So the issue is that we have translation. Now what you’ll find is in some commentaries that people will say, Well, the word atonement, through continual theological usage has become acceptable. So the only thing it takes to make something acceptable is continual theological usage. The word is not used in the Scripture. The word that is used in the Scripture and in the Greek language is propitiation. It means exactly what it says in the footnotes, and this is what it should be translated. For some reason, translators don’t do it. God presented him as a sacrifice, as the one who would turn aside His wrath taking away our sins. Now that is a footnote, and that is the accurate translation of this verse, Not atonement. You don’t get the taking away of sins at atonement. Atonement covered sins until the next time. It’s like, it’s like covering sin and then putting more sin on top the covering, come back next year and covering it. And pretty soon you got to stack that high. He didn’t come to cover sin. Jesus came to take away the sins of the world. Behold the Lamb of God, who what? Takes away the sins of the world. And so why translators translate that this way, I don’t know. Because you miss what Jesus came to do, and maybe it’s because we’ve never thought or really recognized or realized this is what Jesus came to do, contrary to the blood of bulls and goats, he came to do something far greater than what the blood of a bull and goat can do. It’s only the blood of God Himself that was of such value that could take away the sins of the whole world. And so he’s saying here, and the real translation of that is God presented him as a sacrifice. As the one who would turn aside His wrath taking away our sins through faith in his what? In his blood. Not the blood of a bull and goat. Are we together?
He did this. Why did he do this? To demonstrate His justice, because in his forbearance, he had left sins committed beforehand unpunished. Now what’s he talking about there? Who took the punishment for the sins before the cross? Jesus, he took it at the cross. You see the work of Christ taking away the sins of the world. Went back to Adam and forward to eternity. It was eternal in its scope, back to Adam, forward to eternity. So it was not punished beforehand, because the ultimate punishment for sin was placed on who? On Christ. Now he did this to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just, and the one who justifies those who have faith in Christ. And there’s he’s saying the just became the justifier. The just one is Jesus. He became the justifier for you and me. Well now Where then is the boasting? So here’s what he’s talking about. Where is all this boasting going on? Now why would he say that unless people were boasting? And that’s what people do to this very day. Well, we keep the law, we are generous. We’re justified in the sight of God because of what we do and because we observe our holidays. So everybody thinks we’re okay. He says, Where is that boasting? I’ve just declared no one’s righteous in the sight of God. No one will ever be declared righteous in the sight of God through obedience to the law. So where is the boasting? Well, he said, it’s excluded. Doesn’t exist. On what principle, on that of observing the law? No but on that of faith. So he said, This boasting that’s going on is excluded. Get rid of it. It’s not important, because you can’t find justification through the law, but only through faith in Jesus, who took away the sins of the world.

- never ever to see them again.
- Having done that, I now thank you for giving me eternal life,
- through your resurrection.
- I now receive that life.
- And I am going stand in the fact that I am a child of the living God.
- In Jesus Holy name I pray.
- Amen
All believers are now brothers and sisters in Christ.
John 3:3
