Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P54 (02-19-25)

Jesus Said, “It is Finished.”

~ “Therefore when Jesus took the sour wine, He said “It has been finished.” And having bowed the head, He yielded up the spirit.” John 19:30

There is one thing today for sure that is not to be misunderstood, for a person’s salvation depends upon it. Always share Truth with people. Share with them that forgiveness is completed at the cross. Share with people that no one gets their sins forgiven today, for without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Forgiveness was finished at the cross by Jesus, God in the flesh himself. He who knew no sin became sin for us, so that those who exercise faith in Him may become the Righteousness of God.

Jesus said it is finished, and He really means what he said. So there is no confession booths that is going to get your sins forgiven. There is no asking God to forgive you your sins, there is no 1 John 1:9ing to get your sins forgiven by God. For He took away the sins of the world at the cross and is no longer counting anyone’s sins against them. It is finalized.

Now most people are not going to like hearing that, because they are trusting their church, priest or pastor to teach them the lie of Satan of ongoing forgiveness by God. So who are you going to believe, Man or God? Place Faith in God to have done it all for you. It is finished.

Once a person has a proper understanding of salvation, all the other issues are minor in comparison. We have come so far away from the basics that we focus on all the peripheral issues, when truly the entire Christian world is so far removed from the TRUTH of the Word of God that they don’t have a clue what they are even doing with the sin that so easily entangles a person (unbelief in the finished work of Jesus on the cross). For Satan has most people wrapped around his finger believing his lies, of ongoing forgiveness by God.

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on his opinions. For one person has faith to eat all things, while another, who is weak, eats only vegetables. The one who eats everything must not belittle the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

One person regards a certain day above the others, while someone else considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes a special day does so to the Lord; he who eats does so to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

For none of us lives to himself alone, and none of us dies to himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this reason Christ died and returned to life, that He might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

Why, then, do you judge your brother? Or why do you belittle your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written:

“As surely as I live,

says the Lord,

every knee will bow before Me;

every tongue will confess to God.”

So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Therefore let us stop judging one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.

I am convinced and fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean. If your brother is distressed by what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother, for whom Christ died.

Do not allow what you consider good, then, to be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. For whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.

So then, let us pursue what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to let his eating be a stumbling block. It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything to cause your brother to stumble.

Keep your belief about such matters between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves. But the one who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that is not from faith is sin. Romans 14:1-23

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “So we have to understand the truth of those things. So he’s saying what day of the week is irrelevant. And in Colossians, it says that the Sabbath is a foreshadowing of the reality that is found in Christ. So the day of the week was merely a foreshadowing of a reality. The reality is the Sabbath rest that God has called each and every one of us to enter into where we’re resting from our works, just as he did from his Do we understand that that that was a that was an illustration a day of the week as an illustration of rest that was going to represent the time when Jesus came, where he said, I want you to rest every day. So to this, to the Christian, the Sabbath Rest is every day. Wouldn’t you hate to think the only time you’re resting from your works is an hour or two on Saturday or Sunday? And yet, we’ve, we’ve built into into our systems, that type of thing. And boy, if you don’t go on Saturday, you’ve had it. Or if you don’t go on Sunday, you’ve had it. He said, get rid of that nonsense. The Sabbath day was a foreshadowing. The reality is Christ. And Christ is in your life, not on Saturday, not on Sunday, but every day. And so rest in that rest in the fact that Jesus completed His work at the cross. He completed his work in the resurrection, and he cried out, it is finished, which means now rest in that truth you cannot add to what God said, is finished. Now again. What have we done in our religious system? Jesus did that in Israel, did they continue on with their sacrificial system? Absolutely, there’s not a greater insult in the world to the death of Jesus Christ than killing a bull and goat for forgiveness, unless it’s going to confession for forgiveness or First John one nine and for to get forgiveness. The issue is Jesus cried out. It’s finished. Now, guys, sometimes this is a very difficult thing for people to grab a hold of, but nevertheless, when we’ve gone over it 1000 times, and we’ll go over it another 1000 times until we finally get it. When Jesus went to a cross, we have to understand and realize that there is not a one of us. I don’t care how good you think you are, or how good you’ve been or how good you are, there’s not one person who will ever be able to stand in the presence of God in his own righteousness. Do we understand that? And people get down, and they’ll say, Well, it’s faith plus works. And you say, Okay, what works are you doing that you think is impressing God? You have to ask that. Okay. You think works are a part of this? What Works are you doing that God is just sitting up there saying, Ooh, my! Now just, how do you think you the little pipsqueak us are gonna impress God who made this universe? And that’s what religion does. It says, Oh, you can impress God. No, you can’t impress God. How could we be impressed? We can’t even impress each other. Can we? Let alone God. And so we get into this type of a mindset where we want to add to what God has completed. There was no way for you or me to ever go into the presence of a living holy God period. He had to make us acceptable. In his sight.” ~ Bob George

We were talking last week about, and the whole subject of this chapter is in regard to judging one another, and you’ll see that mentioned a number of times in this chapter. In the Christian world, we have a tendency, do we not to judge people, not just the Christian world, but the world period. We have a tendency to want to judge one another, and in this particular case, why you had the Hebrews and the Gentiles with two different categories all together, in regard to like things like eating, and to the Hebrews, they were prohibited from eating pork, they couldn’t have shrimp, they couldn’t have all the stuff that we like to eat and and those were prohibited from from doing.

I can remember in high school, one of my dear friends, his name was Abe Roth he and he was a doctor today in Boston, but his family came out of a very orthodox Jewish background, and I remember one time that we had gone to one of the hamburger joints and and to have some hamburgers with Our buddies on the way back from basketball practice, and I remember that all of us had hamburgers. Abe didn’t, and we didn’t think anything of that. I mean, we knew that he was from a Jewish background, and we knew that his parents were Orthodox, and if you couldn’t eat something, no big deal. No one ever thought a thing of that type of thing. There was never any criticism or judging connected with it at all. And but so all of us had hamburgers and and so we were walking back, and one of my buddies, Tom Daley, was drinking a coke and and Abe asked if he could have a sip of the coke. And so Tom gave him the coke bottle, and he took a swig, and all of a sudden, spit all that out and wiped his mouth. And we said, Dave, what happened? You know? Well, I thought he’d gotten sick of something, and well, nothing. Said no, what happened? And what happened was that he had to do that because Tom had hamburger on his lips from the grease, and that was being transferred, and that was pure sin to them. Now today, Abe and all of his brothers, his other brother, who lives in California, his son, is David Roth, the rock singer. So obviously they’re not into orthodoxy today. But that’s just one example that you run into about eating habits.

Some people have carried that over into the Christian faith, and there are some denominations that they are vegetarians and they you can’t eat meat, you can’t eat all those type of things. And the problem with those deals is they begin to look at that as a means of righteousness, that if I don’t do that, God is really happy with me, not realizing that the reason God told the Hebrews not to do that was they didn’t have GE refrigerators back in the desert in those days, and eating pork and those type of things was unbelievably dangerous. So it was merely to protect their health in regard to their eating habits while they were living in the desert, roaming in the desert for 40 years. And so, but we bring those things over, and we begin to think, Well, I’m not going to do these things, so that God will be pleased with me. And we don’t realize that that isn’t what pleases God. The only thing that pleases God is faith. And so what he is saying here. So the the is that the Gentiles would have been criticizing the Hebrews for their being Christians and still continuing in these dietary laws. And the Hebrews would have been criticizing the Gentiles for not following those dietary laws, that, after all, you’re supposed to follow our religion. Who did the who did Christ go to first the Hebrew to the Gentile? Well, the Hebrews. So they kind of said, this is our religion. Isn’t that funny back in those days, this Christianity is our religion. Today, they can’t stand it. But back then, that was our religion. And so if you’re going to Gentile come to Christ, you’re going to need to come over and abide in our rules and regulations, even to the point of circumcision. They tried to insist that all of the the Gentiles would be circumcised as well, because that was all a part of the customs of the Hebrews.

So what what Paul is saying here is trying to straighten our minds out in regard to what our attitude should be toward these type of things. And so he says, accept him whose faith is weak without passing judgment on disputable matters. And what he’s saying here is, there’s such a thing as faith is weak. Now, what would weak faith be in comparison to strong faith? Weak faith would be believing that what you’re doing is what is establishing your relationship with God. In other words, you’ve ignored what God did for you. What is important is what I’m doing for God. That’s weak faith. Because, why is it weak? Because your faith is in you and you are weak. And so the issue is, that’s what would be called weak faith. And so he says, accept people whose faith is weak without passing judgment on disputable matters, things that don’t matter. One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, and another man whose faith is weak eats only vegetables. Now, as I said last week, that does not mean that vegetarians have weak faith, because what you eat or what you don’t eat has nothing to do with anything. But if you’re not eating meat, thinking that that is what is pleasing God or I’m obeying the law, the old dietary laws, that’s weak faith. If you’re a vegetarian, because you believe that that is more healthy way to eat, which probably indeed it is. Then there, then it says in there that don’t worry with that type of thing. It isn’t the case of weak faith at all. It’s the case that you’re watching what you’re eating for dietary reasons. And so it says the man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not so if you’re not a vegetarian as an example, and and you want to eat your pork chops and steak and all that stuff, he says, Don’t look down on the man who’s not doing that. Don’t quit judging those things. And the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. So what it’s saying is quit judging each other. If that’s your decision, that you don’t want to eat meat, that’s fine, but don’t judge someone who does. And if you are a person who decides that you want to do that don’t judge the one who isn’t in other words, life is much more than what you eat or drink, isn’t it? Those are disputable matters. They are irrelevant, in essence. And yet, we were judging people. We’re judging each other with those things. So he’s saying, quit doing that.

Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? Do we belong to Jesus, or do we belong to one another? We belong to Jesus? So he said, quit judging another person’s servant. To his own master he stands or falls and he will stand for the Lord is able to make him stand. One man considers one day more sacred than another. Another man considers every day alike. And each one should be totally convinced in his own mind, he regards one day as special. Does so to the Lord. He who eats meat eats to the Lord, for He gives thanks to God, and he who abstains does to the Lord, and He gives thanks to God. Now again, does this mean that you’re supposed to pray for before every meal? I don’t know where that means that has no meaning to that at all. I like the prayer of my buddy who said, If anyone is wondering how grateful I am for this food, just watch me eat it. And so I feel, quite frankly, like praying more after the meal than I do before the meal if I’m going to pray. But he’s saying that whoever is doing these things, he’s doing it as unto the Lord. So don’t, don’t judge it. Don’t judge it at all. None of us lives to himself alone, and none of us dies to himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord. If we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

Now again, this day of the week as an example to the Hebrew, the Sabbath is on Saturday or Friday night, till Saturday night. That’s, that’s, that’s the Sabbath. You have in this country, seventh day. Adventist. They’re Gentiles, but they’ve grabbed the law and try to obey the law. They also have their Sabbath on Saturday. What is that saying? If that’s your sad day of Sabbath, have at it, because what does it matter what day you’re going to fellowship with believers? The issue is that God gave you a day of the week for you to rest. Now, in some churches, like I used to go to the day of rest Sunday, you were exhausted at the end of the day. I mean, you started early in the morning. You went back for training union. You went back for Sunday evening service, and then you had to talk with people for three hours the time they got home you were exhausted. So it really wasn’t a day of rest, it was a day of exhaustion. You know, he. Is exhausted and I am exhausted praise the Lord.

So we have to understand the truth of those things. Now again. Bob George 14:05
In and of myself, I am not acceptable in the sight of God. I’m not acceptable to people sometimes, but I’m, for sure, not acceptable in the sight of God in and of myself, God had to make me acceptable, he says in the scripture, be perfect. Great, great encouraging passage, be perfect. Oh, okay, Lord, how perfect you want me to be? Well, as perfect as your Father in heaven. That’s all we’ll do. And say, I think I’ve had it. And he said, now you got it. When you think you’ve had it, you got it. And so he’s saying you can’t do it. So what did he do? By that one offering, he made forever. What? Perfect in the sight of God, all of those whom he made holy, He had to make me perfect, complete, not perfect, perfect complete. He had to make me holy. He had to make me justified. He had to make me sanctified. I cannot do that on my own. There is nothing in our flesh worthy of going into the presence of a worthy God Worthy is the Lamb, not the sheep. And so we have to understand that truth that’s all of us.

The other thing we have to understand is God does not have numerical system on sins. You know, adultery gets you 10 points stealing gets you nine. And then the things we do, a whole bunch of lying and that stuff won’t get you one or two. There is no numerical system on sin. God says sin is sin. That’s why Jesus said everybody’s hung up on adultery. He said, I want to tell you something, if you’ve looked at a woman with lust in your heart, you’ve already committed adultery. Now how many of us want to stand in front of God saying, hey, not me. And if we stood in front of him because he said, if that causes you to sin, pluck your eye out. And so if all of us were honest, you you wouldn’t be able to see me, and I, for sure, would not be able to see you. But that’s what God said. Now, folks, is this real or not? Is that true? Isn’t it? He said, If you’re angry at your brother, it’s the same as committing murder. Well, how many people did you kill on the freeway getting to work? You know that’s Is that true or not? Now, see to us, that’s not true. You can’t go to jail for lusting. You can’t go to jail for being angry. So we think, Well, if you can’t go to jail, then it’s not really sin. No, Jesus said that is sin. Do you know why? Because he said that which is not of faith is sin. That’s not what of faith. So the definition of sin is that which is not of faith. How many times a day do we as Christians not exercise faith? And so if you’re trying to keep short accounts with God, all I say to you is good luck, but you’re not going to have time to eat or sleep or anything else. You’re going to be one busy person if you’re going to keep trying to keep short accounts with God, if you look at sin as God looks at it.

And so none of us will be able to able to ever stand in the presence of God in our own righteousness. It’s not there. So God had to give us his righteousness, and that’s what happened when you and I were born again. We were born again by him taking away the sins of the entire world. And that means guys, that every sin that was ever committed, from the time of Adam forward to all eternity, has been taken away. All sins have been taken away at the cross. That’s why Jesus had to do the suffering that he did, was to cover the sins of the entire world, and there he who knew no sin became sin for you and me, so that we could become the righteousness of God. Where? On him, not in us, in him. Do we understand that? Were all of Hitler’s sins taken away at the cross? How about yours? Yeah, all of them. How about the ones you’re going to commit tomorrow? Now you see people say, when I understand how Jesus died for all my past sins, but what about my future sins? How many of your sins were in the future when Jesus died for them 2000 years ago? Seems like all of them. Somebody said, I came to Christ when I was eight years old. So you’ve done all your sinning as a Christian. I’ve only done half of mine as a Christian. That’s true, is it not? So the issue is, what we have to understand is God had to take away the cause of spiritual death once and for all. That’s what he did at the cross, folks. He didn’t do that so that we can continue going back to our Day of Atonement and killing bull the blood and shedding the blood of bulls and goats. He didn’t do that so we could keep going to the confession booth and getting our sins forgiven and doing our Hail Marys. He didn’t do that so that we could keep going to the altar call every week and every week and every week and getting our sins forgiven and getting our sins forgiven. He didn’t do that so that we keep First John one nine and Oh God, please forgive me. Please forgive me, and please forgive me. He did it once, and he did it for all and he did it for all time, and he sat down at the right hand of God because his work was finished. Now what does he want us to do with that truth? Enter into the Sabbath. Rest, resting from your works, just as he did from his. When he said it’s finished, he rested. When he said it’s finished, he sat down and he says, Why don’t you sit down and rest in that truth, instead of trying to add to that where you can’t add to that anything except your own man made nonsense. And quite frankly, that’s what the majority of religion is today. It’s a bunch of man made nonsense. I don’t care whether you’re Protestant or Catholic or Jew, you can’t keep the law. What do you got it for? He didn’t give it to you to begin with. He gave it to the Hebrew, and the Hebrew couldn’t do it. But we sit back in our area and say, Yeah, but you watch me. Lord, you watch my smoke. I’ll do it. No, you won’t. You won’t do a better job than they did. And that’s why he needed to usher in a New Covenant. Is he said the Old Covenant was weak and useless. Why? Because nobody can keep it. Said it’s weak and useless. Now, when something’s weak and useless, what are you hanging on to it for? If it’s weak and useless? So people have difficulty in understanding Jesus. You can’t get rid of the law. Well, you know, what tracks are you going to run on, and all of that kind of thing. The issue is, what do you think was the meaning of the resurrection of Christ, Jesus? The reason that Jesus was raised from the dead was so that that life that raised Him from the dead can come and live in you and raise you from the dead and to eternally indwell you, so that we no longer follow Christ, guys, that’s a term that you do. You follow him to where he went to the cross and to the empty tomb after you’re indwelt by him. Do you follow him? No, you’re led by Him. It’s now when you’re following somebody, they’re out there, and you’re going along behind them. When you’re led, he’s in here, and he’s leading you where to go. That’s the difference between the salvation we have today and before the cross

And so all of this is where he’s saying to us is, look, I want you to rest in my completed work. I have made you complete. You’re not going to get any better. You’re not getting any worse. I have made you holy in my sight. I’ve made you complete in my sight, I’ve made you righteous in my sight. Now people say, Well, now you tell people that brother, that just mean, just go out and live it up. They say, Well, how you doing with what you’ve been taught? I don’t notice too many people under the law not just going doing what they want to do. They just hide it better. Am I right or wrong? And you live in bondage, it’s hopefully that God nobody finds out what I’m really like underneath his skin. You go to church, you sit there like this, and I hope nobody catches what’s really going on inside. But after the service, you’re happy. Hi there. Good to see you. You know, get the kids in the car and knock their heads back in there. Kids heads are going back and forth, wondering what’s going on here, but that’s that’s playing, that’s play acting. Now, what he is saying to us is the way that we will live this Christian life is abiding and trusting, and one of the things that he wants us to do if we’re going to be abiding and trusting is the fact to quit judging. Because he said, I didn’t come to judge the world, but to save the world, I didn’t come to judge it. So what are we doing? Who are indwelt by Christ judging?

Now let’s get into a little bit here as to back in verse nine. For this reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. So then why do you judge your brother, or why do you look down on your brother? For we’ll all stand before the judgment seat. As it is written, as surely as I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow before me, and every tongue will confess to God. So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. In other words, I’m not going to give an account for you. I’m going to give an account for me. And again, the judgment that we have in the Scripture is has already been done. The judgment for your sins has already happened. Your sins were judged at the cross. The verdict was guilty, the punishment was death, and Jesus took all of it, and that’s why there’s none left for you. Now these words here is an appraisal, which is different than a judgment, to a degree. If you go to an art show, you’ll appraise the work of the artist that isn’t that he doesn’t do good, you’re going to beat him up. You’re just going to appraise his work. And that’s the word here, that we will stand with an appraisal of our work, and that will occur at the time, at least, it seems that would. The time of the rapture, when our works will be appraised. It could be that it occurs when we’re absent from the body and immediately present with the Lord, and will be rewarded for those things that we have done, not in the energy of the flesh, but those things we have allowed Jesus to do in and through us. Maybe giving a cup of water in the name of Christ will be rewarded, and building a 10,000 church congregation will not be rewarded, because he said, there’s going to be a lot of things done in the flesh that are wood, hay and stubble. They look good on the outside, but it’s wood, hay and stubble. And so all of those things are going to be tested by fire. And like I’ve said before, knowing us, we’ll probably be sitting there saying, My ash pile is bigger than your ash pile. But the issue is it’s going to be a bunch of ashes. Only the things we’ve allowed Jesus to do in and through us will be rewarded by Jesus, and then we’ll just merely put the reward back at the foot of the one who produced it.

So he’s saying not to look down on your brother, and we will all be given an account of ourselves to God, and therefore, let us stop passing judgment on one another. Now, let me ask you a question, if you come up and hit me in the face, have I judged you for hitting me in the face? When I say you hit me in the face. No, that isn’t judgment. That’s just telling the truth, but I say the reason that you hit me in the face was because you don’t like Jesus, and you’re probably lost, and I wish you were and all is that judging? Yeah, you’re judging the motives of people. And there’s where we get into a mistake in our lives, when we begin judging motives, not the actions of people, but the motives behind them, and and that’s why you will hear, you’ll see a person with this type of thing, there is no way that that person could be a Christian and be doing what they’re doing. Is that judging? Is it? Do you all agree? Is that judging? Yeah, because we’re not God, and we can’t make that decision. Can we?

Stand on the firmness of truth. Don’t keep going back and forth. Thank Him that the forgiveness issue is settled.

Let’s pray together:

  • Lord Jesus,
  • I thank you for taking away my sins on the cross,
  • never ever to see them again.
  • Having done that, I now thank you for giving me eternal life,
  • through your resurrection.
  • I now receive that life.
  • And I am going stand in the fact that I am a child of the living God.
  • In Jesus Holy name I pray.
  • Amen
