Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P122 (06-24-24)

Forgive as the Lord Forgave You

~ Once we understand the forgiveness of God that He extended toward us, then we can begin to extend that same forgiveness onto others. Put away the fleshly pride, and let it go. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. This is especially true in marriages, where we tend to let things get us bent out of shape, when the truth is we should look past those things and love one another as Christ Loved us. Many times, we have no idea what is going on with the other person, and we tend to think only about ourselves. We don’t consider the trials and tribulations that others are facing, and the things that are hurting them. So be kind to one another, extend grace to one another, forgive each other as Jesus has forgiven you. And consider others more important before ourselves. Maybe a person is hurting inside more than we realize, or fearful of situations they are in, work related, parenting, and even the stress of life. And remember, if you are in Christ Jesus, He is living in you, and wants to use you as His vessel to comfort others. For we are the body of Christ, and we belong one to another.

~
Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:13

~
"And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, as also in Christ God forgave you." Ephesians 4:32

~
The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment. “For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.1 Corinthians 2:14-16

Pray to God:

“Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “But you see my friends, In this world in which we live, it’s a very seldom that you’re ever going to receive that kind of forgiveness from people where it is totally behind their back and never going to see it brought up again, but the relief of that is in the knowledge that it is behind God’s back, never to bring it up again, and whether it’s behind your back or not, is between your relationship with God. I can’t make you that way. I can’t make you that kind of a person. God’s going to have to but from my standpoint and my dealing with you, I do have a choice as to whether or not I’m going to bring up your past to you, or whether I’m going to leave it alone. That is a choice, whether you do it or not with me. I can’t control that. That’s between you and God, but I can determine on my behalf that if Christ, Jesus is dealing with me that way, then that’s the way I want to deal with you. Then I do have a choice that that’s where I’m going to do in dealing with you. Now, folks, can you correct anything you’ve done wrong in the past? Can you correct what you’ve said to each other yesterday, two hours ago? Whatever it might be, there isn’t any way to take that back, is there? So the key to it is to be able, once again, to entrust that to the one who judges justly and to move on and to love one another. What kind of a world do you think we would live in today? What kind of America do you think we’d have today if everyone was doing this?” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:29
In the world in which we live, you’ve got natural man and you’ve got spiritual man. You’ve got natural thinking and you have spiritual thinking. You have natural behavior and you have spiritual behavior. It’s all tied in. There are two different worlds that we live in, folks, two different worlds. You and I are in this world, but there’s a possibility to not be of it and in it, and of it is totally around, how do you think and how do you perceive life? The Bible says, if you’re angry with each other as a man and wife, settle a thing before you go to bed. How many of us do that? How many of us do that? Or do we say, I’m going to stay mad all night. I’ll show her, I’ll just torture her. Or do we settle it? Why does God say settle it? Because he says, otherwise, Satan’s going to get a foothold in your life. When Satan with a foothold. Now natural man doesn’t understand that natural man comes down says, Satan. Who? Who you talking about? Come on. But you and I know what Satan and satanic pressure is, and we also know what the word of God says. It says, straighten it out. It says, don’t harbor bitter, envy and selfish ambition in your heart. Don’t harbor bitterness in your heart. How come? Well, number one, because you’re the benefactor of that and it’s going to eat your lunch. You know, folks, there’s a certain degree in which we are constantly thinking, well, this is best for the family, that I do it this way and and we get this, this kind of a martyr’s complex, well, this is best for them. And so, you know, I’ll quit drinking because it’s best for the family. And so I’ll quit drinking. So that man, quit drinking because it’s best for you. The best motivation we have is selfish. God wants you to quit drinking, regardless of what it does for the family, if you’re a boozer. God’s instructions are to you and to me because he loves you individually. So he isn’t sitting down saying, Well, I really don’t give a flip about you, but I sure like your family. So for the benefit of the family, I love even though you’re a slob, well, y’all quit doing this, man He loves you and he wants the best for you, and these instructions are for you. And the reason I don’t want to be sticking drugs in my body is because it isn’t good for me. Whether it’s good for the family or not is not the issue. It’s not good for me. You and I think we need to understand that bitterness is not good for me. It sure isn’t good for my family, but it’s eating my lunch. Have you ever noticed that? And you can be bitter toward somebody, and they don’t even know you’re bitter toward them, and they’re sitting over here in Kansas City someplace, enjoying their meal, and you’re over in New York getting ulcers in the finest of restaurants, getting ulcers because you’re mad at this guy back in Kansas City, and he doesn’t even know you’re mad at him, he can join his meal. Now, who’s the recipient of bitterness? You. That’s why you can’t afford the luxury I can’t afford the luxury of hating someone. Why? Because after a while, that hate starts falling on people that I love. Because hate doesn’t care what it falls on. Neither does bitterness and neither does resentment. Have you ever noticed you start getting bitter toward one person? Next thing somebody else comes along. You’re bitter towards some person. You go to somebody and say, Hey, I’m having some trouble with this guy over here. I’m bitter. And the guy says, What’s your fault? And he said, Well, I don’t like you either. So now it starts spreading all over the place. We can’t afford the luxury. We can’t afford the luxury. So from God’s standpoint, and if we’re going to think with a spiritual mind instead of a natural mind, and we have the mind of Christ living in us. So we have the capability of doing that, not because we’re smart, not because we’re educated, because we’re saved, that we have a kingdom therefore, and this is what he is talking about, that you and I have come to a different kingdom altogether. It’s a kingdom that cannot be shaken. And so therefore, in verse 28 of chapter 12, it says, Let us be thankful. Let us be thankful. The song was saying to give thanks. And so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. For God is a consuming fire. He never He never dies, he never burns out. He’s always there. So therefore, after we’ve learned this sufficiency of Christ and the supremacy of Christ and and that he is everything. It says, Keep on loving each other as brothers. Are we brothers and sisters in Christ? It says, Keep on loving each other. Is your wife? Your sister in Christ? It says, Keep on loving her. Because your husband, your brother in Christ? It says, Keep on loving him.

You see again, the old flesh says, Yeah, but you don’t know. God says, Yeah, I do know, but you don’t know how he Yes, I do. I forgave how he treated you, but you don’t. Yes, I do say, Keep on loving them. Now again, when you’re talking about this thing of love, then man looks at ushiguh feelings. And so we sit around and try to conjure up, well, okay, I’ll love him. So we’re down here trying to, trying to love. And love is not a feeling. It’s an action. Has nothing to do at all with feelings. It’s an action. Love is patient. I don’t have to feel patient. Says, Be patient. Love is kind. I can be kind. Don’t even have to feel it. I can be long suffering. I cannot keep records of wrongs. I don’t have to feel like, I feel like keeping records, records of wrongs. But it says I’m not going to, and what that means is I’m not going to bring it up. You know, some of the most damaging things we do to each other is when we have a little bag of tricks that we use for a great offense, and that is to keep very detailed records about what everybody’s done to you so that you can draw it out of your computer at a moment’s notice to use as an attack weapon. Have you ever noticed that? And that’s why somebody says, Well, you did this. And what do we say, Yeah, but that’s what you did. They say, Yeah, but you did this for, I did? No, you did this back for you did. And pretty soon you don’t know who did who didn’t, but it’s an attack weapon is to dig up the past and use it as an attack weapon against somebody else. And you know, they’re in anything that hurts you anymore than somebody bringing up what you’ve done wrong. You know why it hurts even more as a Christian than it does as a lost person, because as a Christian, you know full well it’s behind God’s back, and you’re wondering why in the world, in it behind yours.

But you see my friends, In this world in which we live, it’s a very seldom that you’re ever going to receive that kind of forgiveness from people where it is totally behind their back and never going to see it brought up again, but the relief of that is in the knowledge that it is behind God’s back, never to bring it up again, and whether it’s behind your back or not, is between your relationship with God. What kind of America do you think we’d have today if everyone was doing this?

You see, God is not stupid. God made man. He knows man, and what he’s saying to us that if you want to live life to its abundance, this is where you do. It doesn’t make sense naturally. Natural says get even be bitter, punish those who have done. Nothing against you, whether it’s psychologically or however it might be, get even get yours before they get you that all of that is what natural says. And again, the minute I think it, I can consider it, and if I consider it, I’ll act on it. And again, the only problem with that is it takes you right down the spiral to disaster and bondage. So he says, folks be loving to each other. Don’t forget to entertain strangers, because by doing that, some people have entertained angels without knowing it. I don’t quite understand that, but that’s what it says. Now, I don’t remember ever entertain an angel, but it’s hard to it’s hard to say, but it’s there. And what it’s saying is, be hospitable. Remember those in prison, it says as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated, as if you yourself were suffering. And again, it’s an attitude of, if you had a brother that was in prison, don’t look at that as if that couldn’t happen to me. If your if your brother hurts, hurt with them. If they are rejoicing, rejoice with them. It is a hard attitude that says that we belong to one another, that if we if our perspective is right and if it is correct in regard to what this body is, then we understand that just as I have one head, but I’ve got Many parts to my body, but these many parts form one body. And as the scripture says so, it is in Christ that He is the head. And though the parts are many, they form one body. And therefore you and I, we belong to one another as brothers and sisters. In Christ, that’s what it’s talking about, we belong to one another. That’s why, in Christ, there is no Jew, there is no Gentile, there is no slave, there is no free, there is just oneness. In Christ, Jesus, we belong to one another.

Bob George 13:43
Now my finger doesn’t hate my other finger, nor does it wish it ill, nor does it wish it would get sick, because it’s kind of outdoing my other hand, or any of those attitudes you see yourself in cooperation with the head and not in competition with the head and therefore, and it’s the same thing in marriage with a brother and sister in Christ, you’re not in competition with each other, you’re on the same team with one another. You’re not playing singles, you’re playing doubles, and you’re on the same side of the net if you’re married, it is not a institution for competition. It is an institution for unity, whereby the two of you can play on the same side of the net in unity against the game of life that is out there trying to smear us. And one partner might be great up against the net and not too good in the back court and vice versa. That’s okay. You don’t need to make both net people and both back court people. Let the one who plays at the net play at the net and the one who is better playing in the back court play in the back court, and together, you’ll have a strong team playing the game together. You don’t need to make one another like one another. Realize there’s a need for both, and within that need, in order for this unit called a family, to be strengthened, you’re going to need this strength, and you’re going to need that strength, and they’re not the same, and don’t look at that as competition, but as a source of unity and strength. When you look at your marriage as God looked at it, that the two of you have become what? One one. Amy’s strengths are my weaknesses. That’s almost universal in marriage, isn’t it? One partner likes to go to bed early, the other one likes to stay up late. I’ve never hardly seen an exception to that, and I’ll guarantee you, one likes it cold and the other likes it hot. And you get in the car. And here’s this deal going up and down and up and down, up and down, and then you hear these little feet to build the night slipping to turn the air conditioning down, tell you’re in there, dying there, and well, that’s just life. That’s just the way things go. And there’s a need for that. That is not an issue to be fought over. That is just diversity that God says. The miracle can be that you can have unity in the midst of that diversity, if you’re willing to look at things from my perspective, rather than man’s perspective. So it’s an attitude of reaching out to people seeing that if a part of my body is over here in jail, sympathize with it. Marriage should be honored by all and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and the sexually immoral. Now folks that is one tough passage, if you don’t understand the context of what this book’s about, how many of your sins have been judged already by Christ? All of them. What was a verdict? Guilty. What was the punishment? Death. Who took it? Christ. Will your sins ever be judged again? No, then here it says He’s going to judge that.

Now, what’s he talking about there? Now, folks, this is again where we’ve talked about from a natural standpoint, and whether you’re going to observe something naturally, or you’re going to observe it spiritually, you can see somebody, Hey, one with the greekism, and we’re going to understand it. It talks about adulterer. And in this section, the immoral, it’s talking about, let’s see adulterer and fornicator. And again, NIV talks about sexually immoral. It’s not that’s they’ve missed the whole point in these translations. An adulterer, a fornicator, that’s an identity, isn’t it? That’s a person. It’s the same thing when it talks about that, adulterers, fornicators, slanderers, all of those different people will never inherit the kingdom of God. Why? Well, because they’re lost, because they have an identity that’s a different identity than being that of a child of God. That does not mean that a child of God cannot commit adultery. It does not mean a child of God cannot slander or a child of God cannot steal, but it is impossible from God’s vantage point to call a child of God a thief or an adulterer or a slanderer or a fornicator, because that would be changing his identity from what God called him. So God will call him a child of God who is acting like an idiot or a child of God that is acting totally inconsistent with who he is, or a child of God who is committing an act, but he will never change your identity. And so if God is going to judge the adulterer, the lost adulterer, for what committing adultery, and if God is going to judge the fornicator who is lost for committing fornication? Why then, if it is wrong for the lost, would you ever think that it would be right for the saved? And he said, it’s wrong for the lost. It’s wrong for the lost to make his marriage bed impure. Then why would you not think it is also wrong for the saved and for goodness sakes, if you’re saved, why would you do you want to go and defile what God is going to judge people who do, who are lost? So it’s talking about the fact that, why should you do that? Well, I’ll guarantee you, it’s for your own benefit. And in this world today, my friends, all you have to do is watch television, listen to the radio, watch every advertising that’s out, watch the billboards and everything else. And you’ve got pressure coming upon the family like I’ve never seen before. The advertising out there, everybody’s got to look like Miss tab. God forbid that you’d have a stomach, breast implants, you name it, because that’s what it takes to be sexy. Woman goes out and has a baby, then two weeks after it comes, says, How come you’re fat? Supposed to look like Miss tab. Where in a world of those thoughts come from? I want to tell you something folks, 50 years ago, men weren’t saying that to women. I don’t think. I know my dad didn’t to my mom if he if he did, she if I wouldn’t been alive. I The pressure to succeed, the pressure to look like this, the pressure to act like this, the pressure it is an unbelievable attack on people, isn’t it, and on the family, every program that you see, it makes adultery and fornication everything look like. Well, fun, fun, fun stuff. Oh, they’ve come out with a few, you know, these deals that where he got in trouble. And what was that one that? What was it? Fatal Attraction? Yeah, he got a few of those. Not many. Rest of make it look good. All wondered in some of those movies how they could be doing what all they talk about doing, and wake up the next day with their hair looking good and but they they did. They did too. But you see, all that’s acting, all of that, it’s just acting. It’s fantasy. That’s what the world does. It fantasizes to the point of keeping you away from reality. And you got things that come out say fantasy is good. Fantasy is total destruction. You sit around fantasizing about something long enough you can’t deal with reality. Fantasy will kill you. It’s what causes unhappiness in most marriages, is fantasizing about what marriage ought to be like, because it’s that way on this program or that program or that program, and it has nothing to do with the reality of life at all. So people come out and say, Well, man, can try it. Maybe I’ll like it. So the thought is put in my head consideration, maybe this little fling over here will be better than what I got. So you consider it. Next thing you do, you’re acting on it. Next thing you do, it’s become a habit to you. The next thing you know, you’re in bondage to it, and it’ll ruin not only your life, but your family’s life. Where’d it all start? With a thought. So I can either think man’s way, or I can think God’s way. God looks down there and says, keep the marriage bed pure. Look at that and say, I think probably God knows more about this than I do. So I think I’ll keep the marriage bed pure. Who’s that good for? It’s good for you and it’s good for your family. And that done with enough individuals and enough families makes it good for a country. It says, Keep your lives free from the love of money and content with what you have, because God has said, Never, neither will I ever leave you or Never will I forsake you. What do I need to be in love with money, if God says, I’ll never leave you nor forsake you? So we can say with confidence, The Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? There are many of you in this room today that have lived your entire life with no dependency at all on money because you never had it. And you can sit here today and say, The Lord is my helper. I’ll never need to be afraid. What in the world can man ever do to me? These are all attitudes, my friends, that God gives us to think spiritually instead of naturally. They are truths from God that will set us free, if we’ll let them. I them and again, that’s what this book of Hebrews is about.
