Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P03 (09-04-23)

Jesus is Superior and Above Everything

As we continue in our study of the book of Hebrews, be prepared for some sacred cows to fall. In essence, many people have been taught wrong as it pertains to the New Covenant, and this study of the book of Hebrews, God will use it to teach a person Truth as it applies to the word of God. Don’t lean on your own understanding of things. Don’t lean on your traditions. Don’t lean on the teaching of man. But in everything take it to God in prayer and be taught by the Holy Spirit. Once you are taught by the Holy Spirit of God, you will not be swayed easily by the teaching of man and traditions. But if you are not willing to be taught by the Holy Spirit, then the teaching will be hard to hear because you will be trusting your flesh instead of the Holy Spirit of God. And today there is much error in teaching the word of God going on today, that it is difficult to discern what is true and what is false. A person needs the Holy Spirit to provide them with discernment, for the Holy Spirit is the teacher of ALL TRUTH. People will justify all things, even error, and will be double minded in their understanding of things. For they have their favorite pastors and teachers that they have been following and they trust the teaching of men more than the teaching of the Holy Spirit. And as a reminder, anyone could be teaching error, because they are infiltrators, or maybe they did not have everything completely figured out (by the teaching of the Holy Spirit). So in everything, EVERYTHING take it to God in prayer and ultimately be taught by HIM, God, not by man. For God’s teaching is ALWAYS TRUTH.

~ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. John 1:1-13

~ “Now the only option, you got three options one option keep hanging on to the bar and going out and coming back and trying harder next time Lord I’ll do it. Please forgive me God I’ll do better next time out to go again. Come back. Oh God, please forgive me walk the aisle 10 times were out the carpet First John one nine yourself death. Just Oh God, please forgive me. I’ll do better. I’ll do better. I promise I’ll do better now out you go again and spend the rest of your life swinging back and forth on that stupid bar. And you can do that if you want to. And I have people anymore when they want to argue with me on that say hey, if you’re happy just swinging out there and back. Just keep at that to you know, just keep going back and forth and trying harder. If that’s the way you want to live your life. If you want to wander in the desert and chow down on mana for the rest of your life. You can go chow down on some mana. And if that’s where you want to live your life eating mana. Have at it. If you ever want to start drinking from wells that you didn’t dig and eating from plants that you didn’t plant and going into the Sabbath rest. There’s some good news for you, but it didn’t hang on to that ole bar. So that the one option is to hang on to the old bar and keep First John one nining first John one nine and yourself to death and all that other stuff you didn’t hang on to that if you want to. The other option is to let go and grab on to the sufficiency of Christ and go to the other side, there’s a third option, and that is grab a hold of both. And here you are just dangling legs kicking out there hanging on to that. And that’s where you’re going to spend your life because you’re afraid let go either one of them. So here you are, with one arm hanging on to sufficient of Christ, the others hanging on your tradition and out there kicking like an idiot. Thing of it is you can live that way for a while, but you’re gonna let go of one of them sooner or later. You’re either gonna let go one and swing back to where you came from. That’s what Hebrews is going to talk about. Or you’re going to have to let go and go to the promised land. But you can’t dangle out there forever. Get on one of the two bars. But don’t dangle forever. You cannot mix law and grace and survive. That’s the story of the book of Hebrews.

So he’s going to say, then show the superiority of Christ over first of all Hebrew religion, you’re going to see that all religion, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over the prophets over the word of the prophets, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over angels. You’re going to see the superiority of Christ over Moses, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over Joshua, you’re going to see it over the Levitical priesthood, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over the covenant that they were under, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over the sacrifices that they were involved in. And then finally, you’re going to see it over this guy called Melchizedek, of whom Abraham gave an offering to in which the Baptists have based their tithing on. I’m serious, that’s where tithing came from. Melchizedek, one little verse, and when we go over that, you’ll see the stupidity of that one as well. And under the New Covenant, and so all of these sacred cows are gonna get shot in the book of Hebrews. So if you got any sacred cows prepared to lose them, because they are gonna get annihilated if you listen to what is said in the book of Hebrews.” ~ Bob George

And under the New Covenant, and so all of these sacred cows are gonna get shot in the book of Hebrews. So if you got any sacred cows prepared to lose them, because they are gonna get annihilated if you listen to what is said in the book of Hebrews.

So he said, In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets and many times and in various ways. But in these last days, he’s spoken to us by his Son. Now, again, you see the contrast, in the old days and the old times he spoke through the prophets, he spoke to our forefathers in many various ways. What were some of the other ways he spoke to them? And dreams. Did he not? Sure, in visions did he not in all of those kinds of things, but but contrast. And these days, he’s spoken to us through His Son. Now, we have brought into modern day Christianity, where people don’t want to be spoken to by his Son, and their backs, still claiming they’re being spoken to the way the Bible says. That’s the way he used to speak to her, but he didn’t do it anymore. And we’re I had this vision, and I had this dream. And we got some guys here. Listen, this case guy that we’re on, the guy comes on after us. It’s unbelievable. Probably better off not listening. Boy he’s in dreamed, interpreting all the dreams just got sent a little money to get that interpretation. But if you send them in, and all these dreams, and then you got people coming up with their visions, and everybody’s got a vision, that’s how every cult in the world got started was through a vision. That’s how everyone got started. If you’re going to walk by faith, you’re gonna have to walk by faith, not in visions, and not in dreams and not in stuff that you’ve seen out there. But you’re gonna have to walk by faith and what was revealed by the Son of God, Jesus Christ through his word that he gave to us today. And so we don’t walk by visions, and we don’t walk by dreams and we don’t walk by fantasy we walked by faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave himself for us. And the very Son who said that My Word is TRUTH. And if you abide in my word, then you will know the truth and that truth will do what? Set you free. You cannot depend upon visions and dreams and impressions. You’ve got something much more solid than that. Faith is on him the Son, contrasted by a little word, but, but in these last days, in contrast to the way he used to speak to us, in these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he is appointed heir of all things and through whom he made the universe.

Well, folks, let’s go back to the book of Colossians, for just a minute. Colossians chapter one, verse 15, Colossians 1:15. The book of Hebrews just told us that he is heir over all things. He made the universe. Colassians says He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him, this is Christ, all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers, or rulers or authorities, all things were created by Him. And for him, he Christ is before all things. And in Him, all things hold together. He Christ is the head of the body, the church, he Christ is the beginning and the first born from among the dead, so that in everything he, Christ might have supremacy. For God was pleased to have all of his folders to dwell, where? In him. Who? Christ and through him. Who? Christ, to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth, or things in heaven. How? By making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Christ is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being sustaining all things by his powerful word. It’s the magnificence the supremacy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Turn back to the Gospel of John, first chapter. First chapter, John, In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God. And the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning, through him, that’s Christ, all things were made. And without him, nothing was made, that has been made. In him, Christ was life. And that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. He came into verse 10, the world and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him. To those who believed on his name, he gave the right to become children of God. Children born not out of natural descent. In other words, not out of either Hebrew background or Gentile background. Nor if human decision it was an up to the mother and father, or a husband’s will, that born of God. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Who was that that created? Jesus, the one who created all things were created by Him and all things were created for him. He is the One who created man, this Jesus who came to this earth, and walked on this earth is God, the God of this universe. The one who spoke this world into existence is the one who came to give you and me existence.

Now, folks, I want us to turn back to chapter two in John there for a moment, I want to amplify something that we have also talked about briefly but want to camp on for just a moment before we finish up our lesson today. Verse 23. It ties in to what we were talking about a little earlier. While he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing, and believed on his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them. For he knew all men, he did not need man’s testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man. Folks, this is all a part of the creative will of God. God made the heavens and the earth. And he made the trees and the stars and the sun and the moon. And we look at that and we lift up our hands and say, Oh, glory be to God who made the stars in the universe. And all of this, we’re always looking, there is that is great. And we can go and look at nature. And we can see the magnificence of the ocean and the majesty of the mountains and say, Wow, what a God. But we forget something. He made you. He created you. And he knows you.

I don’t mean knows you a little bit. He knows you inside and out and upside and down and in and out. And he does not need Freud’s testimony about man. For he knew what was in a man. God had up there looking down and saying, What do you think about this Freud? What do you think about this Skinner? What do you think about this Lang? Christ made us me from the inside out. He knows you from the inside out. And he doesn’t need some stupid man’s testimony about man in order to understand man, I ask you, are you in Christ or aren’t you? Are you a possessor or a professor? What has happened is this, my friends. You’ve seen and I’ve seen the Christian world. And they’re there their life is, is I need to, I want to get to know God. And thank God for that we have to get to know God. I want to get to know God, I want to get to know God. And again, when we think of God, it’s up there. And that is truth. But God who was up there did something. He came down here. And he appeared first of all, to us as his Son, and took upon himself our flesh and blood. He took upon himself our Earth suit. He hurt, like us, he hungered, like us, he got tired, like us. He experienced rejection, like us. He experienced all of the things that you and I experience. And then ascending to his Father sent that same Spirit into you and me, to let us know that there’s a relationship that he wanted to form. My friends, I want to tell you something about a relationship. A relationship is sustained as two people get to know about each other. Not when one of them do. We are trying to get to know God, thank God for that. But when you get to know that God, you’re going to know something about him. He knows you. The average complaint of wives and why they probably go to more counselors. Women do than men, and are more subjected to depression than men. Is because you’ll hear it time and time again. I know my husband, but he doesn’t know me. And I’ll go to anybody who I can talk to long enough and pay him 100 bucks an hour if necessary, just to get somebody to listen to me. So that I can say at least or somebody knows me. Is that right or wrong? We crave and desire not only to know our mate but to be known by our mate. I not only want to spend time getting to know Amy, I want her to know me. I wanted to understand me, don’t you? Not her but you don’t you in that way we crave that somebody could understand me, know me, still love me in the midst of it. That’s what a relationship is all about. A relationship isn’t devoting all of your time to getting to know your mate. A relationship involves being vulnerable so that your mate can know you. Being able to talk to one another, having the freedom to fail, if you want to call it. To be known by somebody.

There are many people who are on his face of this earth. Who say there isn’t anybody loves me. Nobody cares. Have you ever thought about that? Why should that matter? Why should people be so happy when they go around and said hey, he loves me. They say so what? Because there’s a need to be loved. God made us that way. God made us in such a way that it is imperative to normality to know that you are known by him. You know why I think the Christian world is so messed up, is because I believe that we put in thank God for that to a degree, we put the emphasis. And we’re always fighting the parallel of the pendulum. We’re always on one side of the pendulum or the other. And we have put the emphasis on getting to know God, and have put no emphasis at all, on the fact that God knows you. And because we don’t know that he knows you, and I hear it time and time again. I know God, I know God, well, why are you doing over there sitting in the psychiatrists office for? I know God. Just wanting somebody to know me. And we’ve never been taught that God knows you. And God loves you. And God understand you. And God has the solution to every need of your heart. He created you.

If I’m driving a Chrysler and something goes wrong, that car, I probably would be somewhat smart to go to the person who made it to get it repaired. And I’ll guarantee it would make an ounce of sense for me to drive up next to another Chrysler and say, What’s wrong with my car, Chrysler? That Chrysler doesn’t know what’s wrong with the car. The manufacturer knows what’s wrong with the car, but not another Chrysler. And that’s exactly what we’re doing. I’m a Chrysler coming to you and saying, Hey, what’s wrong with me? You don’t know any more than I do. Who knows what’s wrong with you is the manufacturer. And that just happens to be Christ Jesus. Who alone? Is the answer to your and my dilemmas of life. When the Apostle Paul said, I don’t understand what I do. I don’t understand what to do. Can you relate to that? Yeah, we you relate to that. You see, not only does my wife not understand me, I don’t understand me. There’s only one that does. Christ Jesus. That’s what fills that need in my heart. That’s what enables us to walk with stability in our lives is to realize that not only do I know him, but he knows me. And he loves me anyway. And he accepts me anyway. And he’s forgiven me. And I’m his child and I can walk in his newness of life with the unbelievable assurance that he’s going to complete the work that he began in. See my friends we’ve been duped Can you imagine today, sitting down and saying to some counselor I don’t understand myself. How long have you had that problem? Let’s see if we can go back and find out why you don’t understand yourself. Did you have a mother?

Talked to a girl in Washington Chuck and Larry and I. Just had gotten her whole lives turned around through the radio program. She had been in counseling where they had a teddy bear temple. They had a cross of Christ with him hanging on and then a teddy bear temple and everybody went into the teddy bear temple to get their teddy bear. So you could hug it and get well hugging her teddy bear, try to discover the little girl in them and the little boy in them. Where that come from? Jesus? Come in to me all you are labor heavy laden and I’ll give you a teddy bear? Cast all your cares upon me and I’ll give you a teddy bear? Friends this is what’s going on today. It’s called intellectualism. It’s called wisdom. paying good money for this you get degrees for this. Why? Because man has forgotten something or never knew it to begin with. That in the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God. And the Word was God. And that word, God became flesh and he dwelt among us as the only begotten Son of the Father full of grace and truth. And we have beheld his glory, the glory of the only begotten Son, full of Christ and trust, that all things are sustained by Him and for Him and nothing was made that was not made through him. And that he is supreme over everything in this world. He’s God, and he’s alive. And he knows you. That’s what a relationship is. Paul put it this way that we know God, or rather, that we are known by God.
