Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Law & Grace P22 (11-07-22)

If The Holy Spirit Lives in You, You Have the Mind of Christ Jesus to Teach You All Things.

~ “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16

~ “Yes, I’m criticizing people who are becoming false prophets and people who are sitting around deceiving human beings, I’m not going to change them, incidentally. But I can warn people not to get into it. I can warn people that there’s deception that is out there. And the only way that you’re ever going to match up with what’s being taught is true, is if you know the Word of God, right. And if you don’t know the word of God, you’re a sitting duck as to what it says whether I’m teaching it or someone else’s teaching it, because I could also be lying out my teeth to you. But the fact of the matter is that you have a plumb line living in you the ability, the Holy Spirit of God gives you, not some kind of a special anointing from God. If you’re in Christ, and Christ is in you, you already got that anointing. And that gives you the ability to understand the word of God. It’s what he said, No, I see no, in our ears heard, nor mind is conceived for those things that God has prepared for those who love Him, it’s got to be revealed by the Spirit, the Spirit is living in you to reveal the meaning of the word of God. So you don’t have to trust me or Benny Hinn or somebody else as to what the Word of God says, Go into it yourself. Read it, if the Spirit of God lives in you, he’ll reveal to you what it means. Now, that’s neat, because therefore I don’t have to have my dependency on somebody else except the Lord Jesus Christ and His Spirit to reveal that to me.”

~ Trust in no man, but go to the word of God yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you what the word of God means.

Bob George 0:39
So it isn’t just a case of being bought out of something. It’s the case of being bought out of something so that you could become joined to another. Now, in Galatians, 3:13 and 14, it says that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. Now again, what is the curse of the law? Well, it’s death, isn’t it? The wages of sin is death. That’s a curse. That’s why it says that anyone who’s under the law is under a curse. So Christ became death for us. For it is written cursed, it is everyone who hung on a tree. Now he redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham, and that was that the just shall live by faith. And that salvation comes by faith, that that promise might come to the Gentiles as well as to the Hebrews through Christ Jesus, so by faith that we to in essence, might receive the promise of the Spirit. So all men, even though the Gentiles, were never given the law, the Hebrews were given the law that was given to the Israelites in the desert, as they had been redeemed, bought back in essence, transferred, saved from the bondage of Egypt, opened up the Red Sea, all of the Israelites who were slaves in Egypt walked through that sea, God closed the sea up behind them, and in so doing, drown all Pharaoh’s army. So there was no going back, there was no going back to Egypt, he’d to have to open up that sea again. So it was the case of redeeming them out of bondage into the desert. Now that was the Israelites. And in that desert is where the Israelites asked for the law. And God gave it to them, had the Israelites done what God told them to do, and that was to go into the Promised Land, which represents living by grace, resting in total provision, they wouldn’t have had the law, they wouldn’t have needed it. And God wouldn’t have had to give it to them. But because of their stubbornness and refusal and fear of going into the land that God had prepared for them called a what today in today’s terms, we call it the Sabbath rest. We choose to live under the law. We still do that today. God has called us to a rest and we say no, no, I’d rather live in law. I’d rather live in the desert, eat manna hate it. It’s miserable. But I I can walk around saying praise God, hallelujah, just raising up my hands and just joyful all over the place. But down there, the skin, I’m miserable. Because I’m in a desert, I’m not resting, I’m still trying to get from God. I’m trying to get more faith instead of resting in the faithful one.

I’m trying to get more blessings instead of realize you’ve already been blessed out of your socks through Christ Jesus. I’m trying to get more holy when God said, I’ve already made you holy. I’m trying to get more more and more and more. I’m constantly seeking God, I’m constantly just like the Hebrew reaching up to God. Why? Because we don’t know he reached down to us. So if I don’t know he reached down to us, I guess the only thing I have left to do is to try to reach up to him. But it doesn’t make an ounce of sense when you realize that he’s already reached down to you. He’s already here. People are trying to get closer to God. Say how can you get closer to someone who lives inside of you? But if you don’t know He lives inside of you, and you’re not aware of the power of God that is inside of you. You’re gonna keep seeking power. What do you hear constantly on television, people wanting power, wanting the anointing that thing drives me out of my mind, what’s going on there? What are you talking about the anointing? It’s obviously the scripture that every person has been anointed by the same Holy Spirit of God. There isn’t a special anointing on someone’s life that everyone has, now that I have God, how can I get something more special than Jesus living in me. That people are walking around with some kind of a special power that has come upon me? And to that, I say baloney It is just a bunch of spiritual gobbly gook that is going on in the Christian world today. And it’s time somebody speaks up and, and exposes this charade that is taking place out there today in the name of Jesus, and then piously sitting back and saying, well, people are criticizing us. But that’s what you always do with God’s people. I’m sorry, that is not true. I’m not criticizing people. I’m criticizing the teachers. Yes, I’m criticizing people who are becoming false prophets and people who are sitting around deceiving human beings, I’m not going to change them, incidentally. Now, that’s neat, because therefore I don’t have to have my dependency on somebody else except the Lord Jesus Christ and His Spirit to reveal that to me.

So folks, when we’re talking about these things, that Gentiles never did, we’d never was given the law that was given to the Hebrews. So when a New Covenant, a new agreement between God and man came, that agreement was the blessing of Abraham, of salvation by faith to all who believe in other words that covered all of the world. Abrahamic covenant, the Abrahamic promise was to everyone in the world, the law was to the Jew. Now for the Hebres, when the New Covenant came, the Hebrew had to take off in order to put on and the illustration, there is somebody standing there, and all these beat up ragged clothes that have just been beat up something terrible. And God says, I got a new set of clothes for you. Standing beside them is this Gentile, and as naked as can be, you don’t have any clothes on. And God says to him, I got a new set of clothes for you. Now in both cases, there’s a new set of clothes being offered to one the Hebrew, what do they have to do to put on the new? Take off the old. What was the Gentile supposed to do? Just get dressed. And in both cases, it is a New Covenant to both Hebrew and Gentile. The difference was, the Hebrew had to take off to put on and the Gentile only had to put on.

What happened to the Gentile world? What happened to the all the world? You had the Hebrew that was totally steeped in the laws of God, lived in the desert with those laws for a long period of time, had all of the Hebrew traditions that that tied into all of that. What do you do with that? Think about how difficult that would have been to have come in and said to that group, folks, all of that is a foreshadowing. It’s not a reality. The reality was in this Jesus who came and appeared himself to you came to you came into his own, but his own didn’t receive him, but to as many as did receive him, he gave the right to have eternal life. He said, What do you mean to have eternal life? Well, I thought we got eternal life through obey obeying the law said no, because none of you have ever obeyed it. So how could you get life through the law? If a law had been given that could impart life? Well, then certainly salvation would have come to the law. But the law can’t give life all the law could do was impute death. And so to the Hebrew, they had to put that aside, in order to walk down in this newness of life whereby you’re being led internally by the Spirit of God of the resurrected Christ that died and was raised from the dead, with a promise that that spirit that raised me from the dead, I will send you and raise you from the dead. Walk in a newness of life. So you had to let go of what you had in order to grab on to something brand new.

Now the message to the Gentile was not letting go of the law. It was letting go of this free spirit that you had where you had no restrictions, no limitations. In other words, this lifestyle of promiscuity, life style of if it feels good do it, to put that aside in order to be led by another and that’s there is in Christ. So in essence, you were coming out of a total in going into a total hedonistic society of the Gentile world, in comparison to the Hebrews that although there was sin there certainly that it was somewhat restrained by the requirements of the law. So what did ultimately the Gentile community do? While we picked up the law that the Hebrews led were supposed to have let go of. And although the ones who never came to Christ never did let go of the law, so we bypass those who came to Christ and went back and picked up all of the traditions of the ones who were not saved, still hanging on to their Jewish laws, still hanging on to their Hebrew traditions, and picked up those traditions, and drag them over into what we call Christianity. And so the Hebrews or the Gentiles literally picked up the all of those old raggy clothes that the Hebrews took off in order to put on the new covenant. And here was a Gentile all dressed up in his new suit and grabbed those old clothes, and made a nice vest out of him. And put the old baggy clothes over on top of their brand new ones and are walking around proud as punch is to have nice they look. And and that is exactly what we have done. We have literally negated what Jesus said. And that was that he came to redeem us from that law and the curse of the law, the problem with the laws of wages since his death, and all have sinned, and all have fallen short of the glory of God and therefore all are dead. You’d think you’d want to let go of that. But you see, once again, we say no, God can’t mean what he’s saying the way just said couldn’t be death. And so he come up with this dumb out of fellowship bit, we’re just out of fellowship, we’re gonna words, God just kind of turned his back on us a little bit. He just a little mad at us. And so we’re out of fellowship folks here in a place in the Bible, talking about being in and out of fellowship, The wages of sin is not being in and out of fellowship, The wages of sin is not going to the woodshed, The wages of sin is not getting a paddling, The wages of sin is death. And until you get freed from the wages of sin being death, you’re under a curse under a death penalty.

The wages of gravity jumping out of an airplane without a parachute is death. Gravity grabs a hold of you, and you’re going to die. Now, when you’re under the law of aerodynamics, and flying, and the engines are running, and under that law, while you can escape temporarily that law of gravity. But when those engines go off, that planes under the law of gravity, and the wages of sin is death period. And until you get freed from the wages, the sin being death, by the law of life that has been given to us in Christ Jesus. Why how in the world you ever going to fly? How are you ever going to have life? And the answer that is you can’t there is no way to do that. And the law, and the gravity cannot make you fly. It can only hold you to the earth but it cannot enable you to fly. And so we had to be redeemed from something. But when we don’t believe that the wages of sin is death, and we make up all kinds of things, and that’s what’s going on today. We all know the wages and in death you’ve been freed from that but the wages a sin now is out of fellowship. So now what do you have to do what you got to get back in fellowship. Well, how do you do that? Well, I’ll be keeping your sins confessed.

So you say Well, that’s a good deal. That way, I can just go out and set up a storm and hope I don’t die before I do First John one night, then I’m going to be okay. And also the same people who teach that fellowship deal, the same ones who adamantly teach it, you can’t lose your salvation. But think of the hypocrisy of that. Because if I confess my sins, then he will forgive means if I don’t confess my sins, he doesn’t forgive. So what does that mean? If I died and hadn’t confess my sins, I would go into the presence of God with unconfessed sin in my life. And if my forgiveness is predicated on my memory, especially at my age, I’m in very tough shape. And so the thing of it is, is that’s what it is. It’s a memory testing and a devotion to your confession. It’s an obsession with confession for forgiveness. So there again is all it is is a manmade system that we have developed to first of all call God a liar. In regard to what the wages of sin is, he says it’s death. We say, that’s our fellowship. He said, the gift of God is live say no, no, that life is not the issue. It’s the issue that God’s pleased with you’re in fellowship. And we come up with every harebrained idea under the sun in order to keep our sins forgiven when God’s up in heaven yelling at us, it’s finished. I have made you complete in Christ. Why are you still trying to achieve what I have already achieved? It would be as stupid as going over to a to Italy and finding a gorgeous Michelangelo painting or a sculpture. Go over to the go over to the Louvre and find the statue of David over there. And pull out your little pick and hammer and start chiseling on it and say, What are you doing? I’m trying to complete the work of the artist here. Go over to the Mona Lisa, and pull out your little paint set and start babbling on and someone say What are you doing while I’m trying to improve this thing. How do you think you’re gonna improve on it? It’s a work of art. It’s already done. It’s over. It’s a masterpiece. It’s a classic. But that’s what we’re doing. We are taking what God said it’s finished, already framed, already hung up. And we’re standing there, that little pain set dabbling all over it, and thinking we’re improving on what God did. Folks, The wages of sin is not out of fellowship, The wages of sin is death. And the only solution to death is life. And that’s why we had to be redeemed, so that the promise of salvation would be able to come to the Hebrew and the Gentile alike, the Hebrew who was under the law freed from it, and the Gentile who wasn’t under the law, but still was under the wages of sin. Because our own standards is a law unto itself. So the wages of sin is death, whether you’re under the law or not, the law just proves to you that you are dead because of your inability to even come close to obedience to it.

So again, he redeemed us in order that the blessing that was given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ so that by faith, we might receive what the promised Holy Spirit. What the Spirit come to do? Again, to give us life. We’ve given this illustration before, but it’s worthy of giving again, of being bought out of something. And that took place, of course, with the analogy of the slave market. And whether it was back in Jesus day, or as the atrocity that happened in our own country, a number of years ago, where slavery was in effect in this country. And let’s say that this very strong slave was placed on the auction block, and was put up for purchase, taking human life and selling it as a piece of chattel, which we did here in this country, and of course, was prevalent back in Jesus day. As a matter of fact, it’s interesting that 60, over 60% of the population was enslaved back in Jesus day. And it’s kind of a side issue. But it’s interesting that you never heard Jesus talking about the evils of slavery. He talked to slaves about how to be saved, he talked to slave masters about how to be saved. But he never dealt with the social issue of slavery. There. Isn’t that funny, he said, was he uninformed. Maybe they didn’t have the Christian coalition or the Christian political coalition at that particular time to appraise him of, of the of the evils of slavery. Now, that wasn’t the case at all, Jesus understood something full well. You can change laws, but laws don’t change hearts. You can change presidents, but presidents don’t change hearts. You can change the political system. But politics doesn’t change hearts, it changes laws. But it doesn’t change hearts. And so what good is to do if you’ve changed the law, and you haven’t changed the heart? It’s like the kid that the parent says Sit down there. And so the kid sits in the chair and he says to his brother, sitting on the inside, but I’m gonna stand on up on the outside. What good is it do if your heart isn’t changed? Christ came to change hearts, not political systems didn’t come to change countries didn’t come to shape up Israel didn’t come to shape up and change the political persuasion of Rome. He came to save Romans. He came to save Hebrews. He came to save Gentiles. He came to save people. How come? Because it changed heart in sufficient quantities will change society. But society without a changed heart will just last until the next heart comes along. And the next president comes along, and the next set of legislators come along. And that’s why the Christian world is deceiving themselves by becoming preoccupied with their time and money trying to get Christians elected, and their political persuasion across instead of communicating the grace of God to people.

Getting back to the illustration the slave is play Just on the auction block and the price goes up, and it goes up, and it goes up a very, very strong slave. And all of a sudden, why the price hits an all time high price that has never been paid for a slave in the history of slavery. And all of a sudden the auctioneer is going once going twice and going three times and the gavel falls, and it says sold. And so the man who paid the unbelievable high price for this slave walks over to the auctioneer and asked for the keys to the handcuffs. The man comes down and his leg chains and his hand chains. And the man lays down the price of the money to the auctioneer and pays for it buys him. And the man comes down and the fella kneels down on his knees and unlocks the leg chains. And then he grabs the chains that hold his hands together and he unlocks those chains. And the chains fall to the ground and the man is unencumbered by chains of any kind. And the man then looks at the man that he just bought. And he says sir, go free. And the black man looks at him the slave and says, Sir, you just bought me for the highest price that’s ever been paid for a slave. Yeah, I no. Well, why did you do that? To set you free. It is for freedom, that I set you free. I bought you to set you free. Sir. Why? Well, because you can never live an abundant life in chains. You can’t live an abundant life under the bondage of sin and death of chains and death. I didn’t call you to be a slave. You weren’t designed by God, you weren’t manufactured by God. In other words, created by God, to be a slave. You were created to be free. And I bought you set you free.

And the man stands here with tears streaming down his eyes as he realizes that here’s a man that exercised evidently love in such a degree that he had never seen or heard of before. And to substantiate that he asked that, why did you do this? And he said, Because I loved you. I so loved you that I paid my last dollar to buy you out to set you free. The man turns around and he starts to walk away. And the black man says Sir, where are you going says I’m going home. It says I hate to impose upon you, but could I go with you? Or he said absolutely. I’d love for you to as matter of fact, I’ve already prepared a place for you. But it’s going to have to be volutionally there is no obligation to going home with me. It’s if you want to come and live with me. You got to place forever, if you want to be my friend because I certainly want to be yours. You see, sir, once again, I bought you to set you free. So you’re free to come to my home if you want to. And you’re also free not to. And the man says with anyone who loves me to the extent of demonstrating the love for me that you did to buy me at the highest price ever offered, in order to just set me free. I want to spend the rest of my life getting to know you and becoming your friend. And he says Sir, let’s go together. And they climb into their buggy and off they go to a new relationship.

He didn’t buy him to just keep him to just set him free. He bought him to enable him and offer him a new life. Never under compulsion. But there’s a new life that’s available to you with a new master, not a master with a whip and chains. But a Master who loves you perfectly. Who knows precisely exactly what your needs are, and will be there to meet those needs at any moment of the day. Now that’s what Christ Jesus did. He bought us out of darkness into light he bought us out of slavery. In order to set us free, Paul said is for freedom that we have been set free.

Now in Psalms 49. It’s an interesting Psalm in there seven and eight it says no man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him. The ransom for a life is costly, and no payment is ever enough. In other words, there is no human being on this earth that could ever redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him. In other words, how much would be enough? It’s a sacrifice. There’s no sacrifice when as a sacrifice enough, how pure does the animal need to be before it’s pure enough? So all of those things were foreshadowings of the reality that was going to come in Christ who is the perfect one.

Now in first Peter 1:18 and 19 It says for you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver and gold, that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you, from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Jesus, a lamb without blemish or defect, to offer a man or an animal as a ransom for somebody, it’s too costly. No payment would ever be enough. But we were not redeemed with things that can be weighed by their value, such as silver or gold. We were redeemed from this. Look at this Bob empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers. Now it folks that was just not talking to the Hebrew. But it’s talking to us again, what are we in bondage in today? Those things handed down to us from our forefathers. Now it’s not so that you can sit there and say My problem is that I had a forefather, where the problem is that I had a mother or the problem is that I wasn’t raised properly or came from a dysfunctional family who didn’t accept Adam and Eve, they blame the snake. So that’s not the issue. It’s the issue that we have the tendency to grab on to what someone has passed on to us with without ever thinking, whether that was accurate or not, or true or not. In other words, it’s man’s mindset that kind of says, you just tell me what to believe. And Brother, I believe it. You just tell me what In other words, I don’t want to explore it on my own. But you tell me what to believe that the Hebrews said that will believe Moses will listen to Moses, but I don’t want to listen to God. I’ll listen to what Moses said that God said on that mountain. But brother, don’t tell me to go up there and listen to God that scares me. And so we were passed down an empty way of life. Many times from our forefathers. Well, we weren’t redeemed with that empty way of life. We weren’t redeemed by tradition. We were redeemed by the precious blood of Christ, a Lamb without blemish, or defect.
