Salvation is Not a Formula

~ “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

~ People want to make getting saved a formula. Salvation is not a formula. Salvation is receiving Jesus life in them for Eternal Life. The Holy Spirit comes to live inside a person the very moment they place faith in Jesus. Don’t make it complicated.

Jesus took away ALL your sins at the cross, and was raised from the dead so that the same life that raised Him from the dead can also raise the spiritually dead people themselves and have His life living in them. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is Life. Share with people. Tell it like it is. And be sure to understand your salvation so that you can tell others the TRUTH too.

Then Paul stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and examined your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:

TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.
Therefore what you worship as something unknown, I now proclaim to you.

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples made by human hands. Nor is He served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands.

God intended that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. ‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’ Therefore, being offspring of God, we should not think that the Divine Being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by man’s skill and imagination.

Although God overlooked the ignorance of earlier times, He now commands all people everywhere to repent. For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.”

When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to mock him, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this topic.” At that, Paul left the Areopagus. But some joined him and believed, including Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others who were with them. Acts: 17:22-34

Consider having a Bible study yourself and teaching one or two others the Truth of the word of God. Those with ears, they will want to hear. We have many excellent Bible study books that are very easy to use that involve simply reading the word of God and answering the questions provided. The answers themselves are right there in the word of God.

A caller asked about a group using a special formula for salvation.

“Well, they’ve complicated things unbelievably. Again, I just say that I’m glad that someone is interested in going out and trying to communicate the gospel. But again, that isn’t what saves you. Paul said, it’s the gospel that saves you, and there isn’t anything about the law in the gospel. The gospel is the solution to their through the consequence of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is a resurrected Christ. I think that the law, certainly the purpose of the law, was to show a man to be sinful so that he would turn to Christ. But that doesn’t mean that that’s the only means that you don’t stick the 10 Commandments in front of somebody in order for him to understand the law. We understand the law by our very nature. We know that it’s wrong to kill, we know that it’s wrong to commit adultery, we know it’s wrong to steal. We know all of those things. But you see, we miss the very first one is love your God with all your heart, mind and soul. We can even live up to that one. But the issue is, if they want to use the law in order to put somebody to let them see that they are sinful and therefore proclaim the good news of the gospel. But it seems to me that when I read through the preaching in the book of Acts, and Paul, he certainly didn’t do that. He just went out and told people about the grace of God. He didn’t on his conversion. You know, Paul wasn’t too bad of a Christian on his conversion experience. Where did anybody present the law? Conversion experience is, why are you kicking against the goads, so to speak, and basically ask, Who is this? Well it’s the Lord. And there wasn’t any presentation or four laws given, or any other formula given. It was a presentation, and I am God. And Paul understood the truth of that and came to Christ as his Lord and Savior. Steve, as I said, I’ve said probably the greatest evangelist that was ever on the face of the earth was the Apostle Paul. And I’m just going to read from the 17th chapter of the book of Acts, and beginning in verse 22 when he was in Greece, and he said, Paul stood up in a meeting of the Agape of the Europa, Europas, and said, Men of Athens, I see that in every way you’re very religious. For I walked around and looked carefully at the object of worship, and even found an altar with this inscription to an unknown God. And now what you worship as something unknown, I’m going to proclaim to you, I love that you know you got all these statues. Here’s one of the unknown God. Let me tell you who he is. He says, the God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth, and does not live in temples built by hands. A few members became followers of Paul and believed. And among them, it says, who’s among them? Now? Where’s the law in there? This is probably the greatest evangelist that ever lived. He didn’t, he didn’t sit down with a formula. And so that kind of thing, you know, you you have to say, well, I guess I’d rather somebody been doing something wrong than not doing it at all. But the issue is, you can’t put, you can’t could put God in a box and say that that’s what you have to use to the Hebrew Paul was trying to say to them that this law that God gave you is not a law for you to obtain righteousness. By Paul said, I thought the law that obey you and sue the law was going to give me life, and found out it gave me death. Well, the law now did his work to the Gentile and never had the law. You didn’t have to preach the law to the Gentile, you preach Jesus. And so, again, I just have to say to that kind of thing, if that’s what they want to do, that’s fine, but don’t go around telling you that that’s the only way for salvation, because there again, you’ve put your own law down as to how a person can be saved. And you know, in some instances, it’s come unto me. So I don’t pay attention to those kind of things. I think if that’s you know, they that’s how they kind of get people into their little system of of sharing Christ, or into their system. After a while, they begin worshiping at the foot of the system instead of the Lord.” ~ Bob George
