Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P504 (01-17-20)
When you are convinced that the bible is God’s word, then that is definitely a good starting point. We know the Old Testament can be trusted because Jesus quoted from it. So we have no problem believing the Old Testament. All of scripture, whether the Old Testament or the New Testament, came about by the Spirit of God revealing truth or speaking truth, through men. The bible came to be written down only through the prophets of God in the Old Testament or the apostles of the New Testament. We have translations today. The Septuagint, the first five books of the Old Testament, is a translation from Hebrew into Greek, and Jesus quoted from that.
Now, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. So, it would certainly be important to be convinced and know the bible is the word of God. Now, if you are born again, you would know that. You would also desire to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Many times people, particularly if you are a relatively new believer, you do not know where to start. How important it is to study God’s word to know the author of the book, who is God. But who can understand God without the spirit of God living in Him? Nobody. But if you are not born again, having the Spirit of God placed in you, you need to hear His word because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. And how blessed you will be when you hear someone preach the meaning of it to you, who rightly explains the meaning, as revealed by the Spirit of God, and you believe the message and are born again.
But if you are born again, then in order to grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, you need to study God’s word, in its whole context, while asking the Spirit to reveal the meaning of the word to you. The Spirit is the one who has to reveal the meaning of it to you.
Unfortunately, there are so many who preach or teach, not God’s meaning by relying on the spirit, but relying on their own understanding or repeating what others have said … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

One common question that gets asked quite often is about how the law of Moses applies to us today. Well, if you are a lost person, then it still applies to you to lead you to Christ, for that is the purpose of the law. The law was added so man might recognize he is a sinner, and then understand his condition of death to God, so that he might to Christ to receive new life. Otherwise, the cross of Christ has no meaning to him. The law of Moses was written on stone and is a ministry of death and condemnation. That is, the law is like a mirror, to tell you what your problem is. Although it was glorious, though fading, it does not compare to the glorious ministry of righteousness that Jesus gives to those who are born again.
For those who have been born again, the law of Moses does not apply. None of it. Not the ten commandments and not the ceremonial laws or any other laws. Why? You are no longer under the law of sin and death, but you are now under grace, … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

There is nothing that has overtaken you except what is common to man. Depression and addictions of all kinds are common to man. That does not mean everybody will be addicted to alcohol or cocaine, but the root problem is the same. Brokenness and sin manifests itself in people in different ways. No matter what condition you are in, Christ Jesus is who you really need.
Are you depressed? What do you think causes depression? It really stems from a thinking problem. You are thinking about the bad things that happened yesterday, or even projecting what life will be like tomorrow, and your feelings naturally follow. At times, such depression will lead to other thinking issues and other areas of addiction, such as alcohol or cocaine. And what do people naturally do? They compare themselves with others, assuming others have it all together. The truth of the matter is, nobody has it all together. Religion also compounds the problem, making demands of you, that you could never meet. That also leads to frustration. Some respond by giving up. Others try all the harder, looking down on others, until they are … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

It cannot be emphasized enough to study the bible on your own, allowing the Holy Spirit to teach you. That is the only way you can be certain that you are hearing truth. It is common among the world today for people to rely on what their favorite teacher says as true, whether it be Bob George, John MacArthur, Calvin or Luther, or whoever you happen to esteem. But, how do you know if they are teaching you correctly? They might be but they might not be. How would you know?
Recognize also that cults, such as the Catholics and the Mormons today, the legalists, like the Jews the apostle Paul confronted in Galatia, and the gnostics confronted by the apostle John, will twist scripture in teaching men. So many have been led astray by such teaching. But, if you, who have the Spirit in you, and have grown in discernment, be on guard and recognize error when you hear it. Bear in mind that there are numerous erroneous teaching among various denominations today, the teaching of tithe, a second filling or baptism of the Spirit, and Calvinism, for example, … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
