Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 70 (09-10-19)
We are so prone to follow for what He can give us. They followed him when he fed the five thousand. Why? The next day Jesus said to them, “The only reason you are following me is because you were fed on the other side of the lake”.
I have seen this again and again so many times in people today. In church work, working down on the streets, a guy says, “Give me a meal. What do I need to do? Get baptized. Lead me to the water”. So he gets baptized to get a meal and not to get Jesus. Thousands of times people take advantage of that to get numbers to their credit. The only reason they went to the water was to get a meal and not to get Jesus. You have to have discernment on that kind of thing to determine if they are sincere or just following you to get a meal. That is one of the dangers of just giving a meal. All you have accomplished is satisfying someone’s hunger for a couple of hours. You have not accomplished anything.
Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 68 (09-04-19)
Bob George continues sharing from the 14th chapter of John. Jesus is very soon going to the cross to complete the work His Father gave Him to do. He received the command from His Father, to lay down his life only to raise it up again. His disciples are not understanding these things. They do not yet understand why Jesus is going away. Jesus is comforting them to let them know the unfolding plan God had before the foundation of the world. He will not leave them as orphans. A day is coming when he will send the promised Holy Spirit, that the prophets testified about. That day happened at Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit, for the first time, took residence in the hearts of men. That is what Jesus had said to Nicodemus, about what it means to be born again. Jesus will come to make his home in us and he will speak truth into us individually, so that we will know Him. The moment we understand the totality of what Jesus did for us, believe and are saved, the Holy Spirit takes residence in our hearts … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 61 (08-20-19)
Bob continues to share from John 12. Jesus identifies Himself as the Light of the world. We live in a world full of darkness. The real darkness is that there are souls that do not have the Spirit of God living in them. The Light of the world is not living in them and they are wandering in darkness. They are blind to the truth and cannot understand truth when they hear it. Those who are humble of heart listen to truth and let that truth sink in. If my heart is dead, then I want to know how to get my heart alive. One day the truth comes alive in them. They believe the truth and are saved. Who can explain this?
Just putting your faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, and just putting your faith in that, something changes. One day you were going in one direction and the next, you are going in a completely different direction. Can you come up with an explanation for that? Were you hyped? Was it because of the brilliant presentation that somebody gave? A person once asked Bob, … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 21 (05-15-19)
Bob George shared from John 5 where Jesus asked a man who was an invalid for over 38 years, “Do you want to get well?”. The man was having a pity party. Jesus saw through that and just told him to get up, pick up his mat and walk. Bob addressed the question, “Do you want to get well?” The question, “Do you want to get well?” is a vital question. It is not the fact we can’t but the fact that we do not want to. To someone, the answer may be that he does not want to get well. The issue is are you willing to sacrifice the peace of God that surpasses understanding for a temporary peace that passes away the minute the situation is over? Would you consider asking the Lord to help you be willing to change your want to? So whether the issue is being grumpy, having your own way, depression, addiction, marital problems, or any number of issues, do you want to get well?
Original date: 10-19-97 – Classic Christianity Part 3 (2-6-19)
Bob George discusses insights from God’s word. In part two, Bob addressed where true godly enthusiasm comes from, from God in contrast to worldly knowledge or fleshly zeal and the proud heart. He discusses the church, the people of God, who have been strengthened from God to do the work of the ministry, so in all things God will be praised. So God gives people as gifts to the church so that all will grow in maturity in Christ, to the unity in the faith, to the knowledge of the Son of God, and to the full measure of Christ, to know Him, to grasp how great is His love for you. Through God at work within the church, abiding in Christ, the fruit of the Spirit is made manifest. Bob continues teaching from Ephesians concerning the immature church, being tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine and deceitful scheming of men. Bob shares about the proper operation of spiritual gifts in the church for building the church up to maturity in Christ. Bob provides examples of such teaching and scheming in today’s church while emphasizing the importance of … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
