Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Reality of The Resurrection P22 (01-18-22)
Man Has a Human Spirit That Needs Life
Man is not an animal. Man has a human spirit. It doesn’t have the Spirit of God living in there by default. Man still is alive to the things of the world, yet it is dead to God’s Spirit. Man still wonders about all things. Man is trying to find meaning and purpose to life. We look at money to find happiness. Yet that doesn’t bring satisfaction to life. Solomon said it is all vanity. Solomon had everything yet he realized it was all vanity.
Once you come to Christ Jesus, He becomes our source of contentment. Jesus becomes our peace.
John 14:14
14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
When you are dead, without the Spirit of God living in you, you feel like there is something missing. The reason you feel like something is missing, is because something is indeed missing. The Holy Spirit is missing from your spirit. Christ in you is missing in the spiritually dead man.
Colossians 1:27
27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
We are dead, and in need of life. We need life. We are in darkness when we are dead. Each of us were born dead to God’s Spirit. The Spirit of God is not in us when we are physically born. That’s why we must be born again. Born from above.
Man needs life. We must be born again of the Spirit.
John 3:3-8
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. ”4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit b gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
Jesus Christ came to give us life. Jesus was the only one born with Life. He was the only MAN born alive spiritually. He was the only one that had a life to lay down for us. He was the first born of all of creation. Jesus was God in a perfect Man. Jesus became sin for us, and shed His life for you and me. He took away the sins of the world. So that He could give us eternal life. If He did not take care of the sin issue, then the next time we sinned we would die again ourselves.
2 Corinthians 5:17
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
So exactly what does it mean to be a new creation in Christ? How does that come to be? First off, Jesus came to take away our sins, and not only our sins but the sins of the whole world! He went to a cross and became sin for you and me.
1 John 3:5
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
1 John 2:2
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 Corinthians 5:21
21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Jesus fulfilled the law perfectly. In perfect obedience, God became the perfect MAN, and did what we could not do ourselves. He did it because He was God, and a perfect Man indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God. This is why He is declared the First Born of all creation. For He was the only one ever born alive spiritually. Everyone else is born without the Spirit of God in them. Adam was the first man created alive spiritually, and then he died. Jesus is the First Born alive spiritually and He was the only one that could lay down His life, because He was the only one that could give His life, because He was the only one that had a life to give.
So why did He take away the sins from the whole world? So that He could give us eternal life when we place faith in Him.
The cross is not an end in itself. He had to deal with sin once for all, because if He didn’t, then the next time you sinned you would die. You would be like dying one day and coming alive the next day. Instead, He took my sins upon Himself at the cross and the Spirit of God left Jesus. But then Jesus came back from the dead, and was resurrected and the Spirit came back in Jesus again. He took back His life again.
John 10:18
18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”
Jesus had the authority to lay down His life and also had the authority to take it up again. He had the authority because He is God. Jesus volunteered for the death of the sins of the whole world. He gave up His Spirit at the cross and placed it in the hands of the Father.
Luke 23:46
46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.
So Jesus at the cross experienced a death just like ours, so that raised from the dead we could experience a life exactly like His.
Just like Adam when he sinned, spiritual life left him, and Jesus when He took upon the sins of the whole world, life left Him too. But on the third day, He rose again from the dead! There was a resurrection. So that’s why Paul says, without the resurrection we are still in our sins. We are still dead and in need of His life. If He is not raised from the dead then our faith is futile and we are to be pitied of all people.
1 Corinthians 15:12-18
12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
The gift of God is life! The wages of sin is death, yet the gift of God is life! We get a crown that will last and last forever!
1 Corinthians 9:25
25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
In Christ, we have been born again of God. We have been born again of the Spirit of God. It is imperishable seed.
1 Peter 1:23
23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
This is why we have eternal life.
Romans 8:2
2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
When Jesus comes back, He is not coming back to deal with individual sins. The reason for that, is He has already dealt with it once for all.
Hebrews 9:28
28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Be assured of our place in Christ. The reason is, because we have life that we can never lose. For He will never leave us nor forsake us!
Hebrews 10:22
22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
For salvation is LIFE! We need to understand that we can never lose salvation. We can never lose life once we are in Christ Jesus and He is in us! Love held Jesus to the cross for us! Nothing can ever cause death again when He lives in us.
1 Peter 1:3-5
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
In Him you have eternal life. And if you aren’t in Him today, we encourage you to accept His life today.
