Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P60 (01-30-24)

Are You Standing in The Promise of God or the Testimony of Man?

~ Who are you trusting in for your salvation? Who are you trusting in for your very Life? These questions need to be asked, and answered at some point in time in everyone’s life. The trials and tribulations of the world will eventually come upon all of us, and how we answer those questions will make a difference in our eternity future. So many folks are involved in the Christian religion today that are simply NOT saved. And folks, it is NOT wrong to judge, for the spiritual person judges All things [1 Corinthians 2:15]. For the people involved in the religion of Christianity are standing on the testimony of what Man has declared instead of the truth of the word of God.

Many of you, children of God, reading these words and listening to the Classic Christianity programs know from first hand experience, dealings with leaglists. Some of you have even been kicked out of churches for sharing the truth of the word of God. And some have experienced first hand, the rejection of those in the world that would rather believe in Man instead of the Word of God. Many of us have witnessed the pride of individuals that get as angry as a stirred up hornets nest, when it comes to believing in the Truth in regards to completed forgiveness on the cross, or eternal security, or the New Covenant agreement between God and man, or our identity in Christ Jesus, or understanding the difference between law and grace, and on and on it goes. And as that day of Jesus’ return gets closer and closer, we are told in the Scriptures that people will not listen to sound doctrine, for they bring to themselves what their itching ears want to hear. And there is so much much more that the Holy Spirit is to teach us ALL today, of the Truth of the Word of God and of the lies of Satan in the world, for we need to lean on His understanding and not our own, even more so today than even yesterday.. Ask for Wisdom from God and He shall give you an abundance of it for today without finding fault.

So don’t let it get you down, for it is the times we live in. All we can do is abide in Him and be available to the Holy Spirit who lives in us (for all who are in Christ Jesus have the mind of Christ living in them), and He alone will give you peace and comfort for your soul. We cannot do anything about another person’s response to Truth, all we can do is share Truth ourselves with others and especially when directed by the Holy Spirit to do so. The results are in God’s hands, not ours. Rest in the promise of God.

~ When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 6:13-20

—–

~ “And that Christ came, and when we do not rest in Him, and in Him alone, for the forgiveness of our sins, and to realize that when he went to that cross, he didn’t do it in order to come back over and over and over again, that there’s only one God, there’s only one Jesus, and just as a lamb you had that you would have slain on an altar, couldn’t then come back and get on the altar again, and then come back and get on the altar again, when he died, that lamb was dead. And in order for if there’s any further sacrifice, another lamb is going to have to be slain, and then another lamb. Well, God doesn’t work that way. God is one. And God came and he said, I’m going to that altar one time. And at that altar, I’m going to shed my blood and lay down my life for you once and for all, that I so loved the world, that I want to reconcile myself unto them, and I want them to be reconciled unto me.” ~ Bob George

Well, let’s, what I want to do today is turn to the book of Hebrews. And we will finish up chapter six. We’re going to be picking up down in in about verse 13. The book of Hebrews is a very interesting and marvelous work. As the Holy Spirit of God worked through the author of the book of Hebrews, it was bringing forth this truth that it’s all Christ, and, and none of us, it’s not religion. And he very succinctly has taken every single aspect of this and covered it, the Christ superiority to the angels, Christ superiority to, to Moses, Christ superiority to Joshua, Christ superiority to the priesthood. That it’s all Jesus. And it’s none of us. It is, it is a book that was written to discourage, and to let people realize that religion played a role in preserving a shadow. But it could not provide the reality. And to this very day, the same is true, that the best that religion can do is to provide a shadow. But the reality of that shadow is in the person of Jesus Christ, none other. And so he was dealing as we went through chapter six, talking about the fact that, that there are all kinds of systems that were certainly developed in order to provide forgiveness, such an important issue for us to know that we are a forgiving person. And prior to the reality that was found in Christ, the best that religion could do was provide that shadow. And God provided a way and a means whereby that we could experience forgiveness on a temporary basis. And that was the old days of atonement, and where people would go back and get their sins atoned for, and it was through a sacrifice, it was a foreshadowing of the reality in Christ, where an innocent animal literally had to give up its life for the sins of the person that was there, transferring the sins on to that animal. So it wasn’t the case of your sins being blinked out or winked at or taken for granted, they were there. And man could acknowledge that but also acknowledged that those sins needed forgiven. And only a person’s life in sacrifice could forgive a sin whereby the wages of sin is death. And then how Christ then came is that final sacrifice, and there’s none after that, that the everything prior to that all the things we brought in, in the religious world today are just foreshadowings. They’re not real at all. And that Christ came, and when we do not rest in Him, and in Him alone, for the forgiveness of our sins, and to realize that when he went to that cross, he didn’t do it in order to come back over and over and over again, that there’s only one God, there’s only one Jesus, and just as a lamb you had that you would have slain on an altar, couldn’t then come back and get on the altar again, and then come back and get on the altar again, when he died, that lamb was dead. And in order for if there’s any further sacrifice, another lamb is going to have to be slain, and then another lamb. Well, God doesn’t work that way. God is one. And God came and he said, I’m going to that altar one time. And at that altar, I’m going to shed my blood and lay down my life for you once and for all, that I so loved the world, that I want to reconcile myself unto them, and I want them to be reconciled unto me.

And so it was one offering that took place, and that was Christ alone, God himself in the flesh, coming to this earth walking for 33 years on the earth going to across once and for all, and saying, by this one offering, I will make forever perfect in the sight of God. on every single one of you, who I am going to set apart, the minute you come to me, I’m not going to come back and die again. I am not, I’m going to do it once. That’s all that is necessary. And the only thing in the world that is more precious than all the vileness of sin is the precious blood of Christ. The only thing in the world that could have more power than the power of evil is the power of the life of Christ. And so that was all it was necessary, was God’s own life laid down one time for all men. And he did that. And when he laid down his life for us, he said, that is it, there is now no more any sacrifice for sins, that’s it. That means you can close down your confession booths, it means you can close down your sacrificial system, it means you can stop your altar calls, it means you can stop your first John one nines, if you’re saved, it means it is finished. It doesn’t mean that that there are two different kinds of forgiveness, one parental and one something else. It doesn’t mean there’s judicial, and there’s experiential. It means when Christ said it’s finished, it means it’s finished. That is truth. And there’s only one way to walk in that either believe it or deny it. But don’t try to make up something to add to it or to subtract from it. When I say something is true, there’s only two things you can do with it. God says that is deny it, or believe it, but do not try to alter it. And that is exactly what he was talking about here then that if you’ve been enlightened with this truth, and you insist on going back to your man made provisions for sin, it’s merely an evidence that you’ve never repented to begin with, you’ve never changed your mind in regard to what I did on that cross. You’ve given lip service, you’ve given an intellectual assent to something, but you’ve never given your heart to something. You’ve, you’ve tasted something, you’ve touched it, you’ve participated. But there’s never come a point in your life where as an act of your will, you’re saying, I give up. Because folks, when there’s nothing left for you to do, faith is the only thing you can do. As a matter of fact, faith is the only thing that you can do when there’s nothing left for you to do. When there’s nothing that you can do, then the only thing you can do is have faith in one who did do something that you couldn’t do. And that’s why faith is in their faith is merely saying, Lord, I can’t. But you can. So I don’t have a faith in what I can do. I don’t I can’t do anything. So I’m going to have to place faith in what you did.

And that’s what the cross was all about. was a time in history where God entered into this world, and went to a cross and died for your and my sins once and for all, to us who was totally helpless, totally impotent in our ability to find righteousness in the sight of a holy God. And so he’s talking to people on that, that if you, you, you, you make your steps toward God, and then you fall away. And you kind of approach and then you fall away. And he is saying, don’t make an approach and fall away. It it cannot be Christ plus your sacrificial systems. It cannot be Christ plus your first John one nines. It cannot be Christ plus anything. It is Christ period. You are not forgiven because you confess. You will agree with God because you’re forgiven, but you don’t agree in order to get forgiven, there is nothing you can do to get forgiven. Except receive forgiveness. That’s all. Now that forgiveness isn’t something that comes over and over and over any more than Jesus is going to die over and over and over. That forgiveness was possible when it was the blood of bulls and goats because you could kill another bull next year and other goat next year and other lamb next year and then kill another one and kill another one and kill another one and kill another one and kill another one. But you can’t do that with Jesus. He ain’t gonna hang up there anymore. And that’s why it is saying in verse six, that you can’t be brought back to repentance if you’ve never repented. If you’ve never changed your mind to begin with how you’re going to be brought back to repentance? And there are people who are sitting in Christianity today who call ourselves Christians who have never been reconciled to God. We may even be saved because we’ve, we have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ. But we’ve never been reconciled, and we’re still playing the religious game. And he said to our loss, we’re crucifying the Son of God all over again, and subjecting him to public disgrace. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins, if there was any further forgiveness to be executed on your behalf. What would he have to do? Well, he would have to die again. Is he going to do that? No, he isn’t. So what is the only thing that we can do? It’s walk by faith, walk into realization, it’s all him.

So we talked about last week to, let Christ be at home in your heart, to be able to walk knowing full well not not because of anything you do just a total awareness that all as well, with my soul, it is well with my soul, not because of what I do, because of what he’s done it is well, with my soul, I am at peace with God, because of the peace of God, that passes all understanding. And that peace of God can only come when we finally come to a point of saying, it’s finished. You’ve done it all. It’s all you, Lord, and none of me.

Now, it goes ahead to talk in chapter in verse nine, that even though we speak like this, he said, We’re confident of better things in your case. In other words, the author is saying there are those out there that have made this step, but have never finalized. But he said, I’m not saying that in your case, I’m hoping that’s not true in your case, and in regard to things that accompany salvation. And he said, he isn’t going to forget the things that you and I do, which is comes as a result of our relationship with Christ. He said, I don’t want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience, inherit what has been promised to us. We have a great promise, our eternal life is promised to us our forgiveness is something that was promised and is a part of us, his life living in us is a part of us. Now, he said, we are going to then carry out these years that we have on this earth with patience. And and to realize that in this world that we live in, we are going to have tribulation. But he said because of this truth that is in you, that you can walk in the midst of these trials and tribulations, with peace in your heart. Now, he said, When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater, for him to swear by he swore by Himself, saying, I will surely bless you and give you many descendants. And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. Men swear by someone greater than themselves. You know, we say I swear to God. Well, God couldn’t say I swear to God, He is God. So he said, I couldn’t swear to anyone greater than me. So I just made a promise.

Bob George 13:39
The oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. I swear to God that what I’m telling you is true. That should be it’s not but it should be. If I’ve done that, there’s no more there’s nothing else to talk about. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, He confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled and that is fled from the religion fled from the Hebrewism, fled from the sacrificial system, fled from your all of the things that you and I had been taught will bring about forgiveness will bring about life, fled from all of the self effort that you and I have been taught that if you do this, and you do that, and you do this, God will just bless you. And if you tithe, God will give it back to you. Which is merely means of manipulating people to get your own way, and to build your own little church and has nothing at all to do with the truth that is in the Word of God. He says, Flee from these things. And there’s reasons to flee from them. Because if you don’t, you’ll never be free. If you don’t flee, you won’t be free. If you don’t let go of error, you will never be able to be free in Truth. Hhow can truth set you free if you’re still hanging on to error? And so he said, we have fled these things in order to take hold of the hope that is offered to us, that we may be greatly encouraged, hope in what? Hope in Christ, that’s your only hope. You’re and my hope. Is Christ in your heart, your only hope. Of what? Glory. What’s that mean? The only hope of ever being what God intended you to be. Is Christ, alive living in you, your only hope of that ever being and taking place. There is no hope in me, making myself what Christ wants me to be. There is no hope in you, making you into what you think Christ wants you to be. Your and my only hope be what God intended you to me, is Christ living in us, our only hope of glory. So he says flee these things. Get rid of them, let go of self sufficiency, let go of religious performance, let go of your sacrificial systems, let go of your tradition. Because your only hope is in Christ. None of those things.

You have people who hold on and good intention people who hold on to their doctrinal stance and that becomes their sense of security, that my doctrine is 100% correct. Folks, that ain’t gonna do you an ounce of good, when you’re ready to die, there gonna be a peace at all in knowing that I can die in peace because my doctrine is correct. You’ll die in peace, when the Prince of Peace is at home in your heart. It says we have this hope as an anchor for the soul. Focus, your hope in Christ is your anchor. It’s the thing that keeps the ship from blowing all over the ocean is when we come to grips with the fact that it’s all Jesus and it is none of us. That’s an anchor for your soul. It’s the thing that keeps Satan from banging you and tossing you to and fro by every wave of doctrine. It’s the only thing that can keep you and me from living without fear in this unbelievably fearful world that we live in, this world is fearful. I can’t think of a place any more fearful to live than on this planet. It is a fearful, tragic place to live. And yet we can live without fear, because of the hope that is grounded in us by Christ Jesus our Lord. We have this hope as an anchor for our soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain where Jesus who went before us is entered on our behalf. And he has become a high priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. No background, not a member of the Levitical priesthood. Someone who came to this earth as God. Folks, that’s the only anchor that we have.

You know, many times, death and the ensuing approach of death. We look at it as a tragedy. But so many times it becomes a blessing to us because it brings us back to reality. I can’t tell you the number of times unfortunately, I don’t see it always stick. But I think back on a friend of mine that I had the privilege of leading to Christ, a guy named John Van Cronkite, he was in his 70s when he came to Christ. And I remember a number of years later, John dying and one of his sons that was kind of in and out in and out and in and out. And they’re at his dad’s bedside, oh, I’m just going to dedicate myself to Christ as the priorities just nothing else matters. And you say I wish that would stick. But unfortunately, many times it doesn’t. We respond to an emotional experience but instead of going back and realizing that’s all that matters. Think about your own thought life. What do you think about most of the day, the business you’re in, what you’re doing. That’s what our minds are preoccupied with, things that are going to poof, go by the wayside someday. And what he is saying, and what the book of Hebrews is saying is Christ is an anchor. And in the crunch of life, one of these days, every one of us are going to be facing death of our own or somebody else’s. And the whole key to that is, how are you going to face that death? What’s it going to? Mean? What’s Christ gonna mean to us when we’re in that crash? Is it just a fleeting little deal, just a doctrinal thing? Just that I’ve been proud and getting my doctrine out, or I’ve been proud and what I’ve been doing, or is there some kind of a reality that’s in our lives?

A number of months ago, we had one of our training classes at Sunridge. And a pastor from Arizona from Phoenix came. He’s a dear brother, PhD in religion, a pastor. And he came to learn more about the grace of God. And in that period of time, in that week, there was a huge change that took place in his life as he came to grips with the fact that was all him. Folks, we can get bogged down in Baptist doctrine, and all this and somebody else, Presbyterian doctrine and all this kind of stuff that makes you sick at your stomach. Chuck just called on a church out in Modesto, California, that’s been trying to eat our lunch out there. Because some people couldn’t stand listening to their legalism, loved the pastor enough to go to him and tell him about it. And he got up and gave a sermon, a view believe like that heretic Bob, George, get out of the church. So 15 families left. And just mad about that. legalistic, controlling. So Chuck went out there to meet with this guy, and to go in peace, and to go back and with one of the people who had left the church, not over that issue, but they left over another thing that they had done to them far forever he ever knew us, dear brother. And went in and the guys through the conversation, mad, vindictive rood, looked over at the fella that had left their church because of something they had done, this guy’s daughter had gotten went there for counseling, who was in a personal problem and went for counseling. Before long, it was spread all over the church. And so they were pretty angered about that and left on that account. But had come back in peace. And here was this guy pastoring, the most influential church supposedly out there in Modesto, looking at that man and saying, You don’t know how that hurts me. You don’t know what that did to me to hear you come back and say, I have peace in my heart. I love Jesus more than I’ve ever loved. I love to read the Bible now. And I never did before. You don’t know how that hurts me to hear you say that, when we’ve been teaching you the gospel for 20 years. Amazing. No, it’s not amazing. It’s the same attitude as the Pharisee. Who said, I don’t care if you were born blind. I don’t care if this guy made you see, you spit on the Sabbath. You didn’t do it our way. That kind of a mindset folks is in all religion. That kind of a mindset would have been in this guy’s religion at one time.

And some of you heard the program the other night, and I want to repeat a letter. They just mailed to me. Because in this letter, what you’re going to do is to hear out of the heart of a pastor who has come to grips, not with doctrine, but with his living God. He said pain, numbness and intense sweating put an abrupt halt to my three mile run. leaning against the fence vomiting. I thought how can someone who ran three miles a day follow a good diet and his cholesterol level of 180 Have a heart attack. I later learned that while some parents leave money to their children, but my inheritance was a genetic heart problem. On that day, a heart attack would have been my last choice of an event that I wanted to invade my life. Little did I know God’s purpose and direction. Now, if God had said, I’ll reverse your heart attack and surgery for what I’ve taught you about my grace, or would you reverse their heart attacks and surgery if what I’ve taught you about my grace, I would have replied, I’ll keep the scars and treasure what I’ve learned about you. After several days of test, it was decision time, my intensive care room was filled with immediate family doctors and a nurse. The cardiac cardiac physician revealed that one artery was 95% blocked and other 75% in the third 60%. Every one route in the room knew that open heart bypass surgery was inevitable. I tried to console my family by saying we have to set our emotions aside and make a decision based on facts. But their faces revealed that my words had no effect. deep hurt and pity were reflected in the eyes of my beloved wife, Mary, our tender hearted daughter Sandra was trying to hide behind the rest of the family sobbing uncontrollably. In an effort to console them. I said, I don’t expect you to understand what I’m about to say. I just want you to believe me. I’m not sharing it to be theatrical, in an effort to console you. I’m saying it because it’s true. I wish that you could experience what I’m feeling right now. From the moment I arrived in the emergency room, there has never been the slightest sense of fear, anxiety or worry. There’s only been a strong desire to go to be with the Lord. This sweet sense of release was very strong until I thought of words. Wouldn’t until I until I thought of words wouldn’t come. I could only point to my wife Mary and sob. And finally I said she’s my only reason for wanting to stay to spare her sorrow and loneliness.
