Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P93 (04-16-24)
Faith is in Jesus Not in Ourselves
~ Jesus is the Faithful One of God. We are to place faith in Him, not in ourselves and certainly NOT in our own faith either. Once we understand what faith really is, then we can live by faith from first to last. As the scriptures say, it is by faith from first to last. And the word “faith” has been changed in meaning by Satan also. Faith is a very practical word. We apply faith to all sorts of things in our lives. We trust in a chair to hold us, and thus we sit down. However, when it comes to the things of God, our faith needs to have a proper object. And that is Jesus, God in the flesh, who took away the sins of the world and is no longer counting them against anyone today. Faith says, “I believe that.” Faith says, “Thank you God for having forgiven me of ALL my sins on the cross.” Faith says, “Thank you Jesus for giving me your Life, the Holy Spirit, when I trusted in you.” Faith says, “I can’t do anything without you God.” Faith is applying Truth to situations. Jesus said, “it is finished.” Faith says, “I believe you Jesus.”
We are entering now into the faith chapter of the book of Hebrews, chapter 11. We are going to see examples of faith throughout the word of God. We shall see how people believed God, and they responded to God by doing the right thing. They responded properly to TRUTH. And folks, if we can’t understand the finality of the cross, and what that means for us today, then we will forever be tossed about by every wind of doctrine that Satan throws our way. So, begin with the proper foundation, and everything else will be added onto you. If you want to know more Truth, simply ask God and He will supply ALL TRUTH. You will be flooded with amazing Truths in the word of God. And as we have said many many times, don NOT listen to the teaching of MAN, for we have all been taught lies from birth and we have passed on lies to others. But instead trust in the HOLY SPIRIT to show you and teach you All TRUTH. And don’t assume anyone knows all truth (no one knows it all except God alone) or someone is not teaching error someplace. And don’t trust in your own understanding of anything today either. Trust in NO man, but Trust in God alone for TRUTH. For Jesus is TRUTH.
Bob George emphasized the importance of faith in overcoming challenges, sharing personal anecdotes and biblical teachings to illustrate how faith can lead to spiritual growth and transformation. He also discussed the existence and character of God, arguing that only God could create something out of nothing and that faith is necessary to believe in God’s existence and rewards those who place faith in Him.
Pray to God:
“Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today. Thank you God.”
~ "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead. By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith." Hebrews 11:1-7
~ “If anyone opened up their eyes and see, they will know there’s a God. But as I’ve mentioned to you before, I can take you to the largest, and one of the most unbelievable spectacles on the side of this world of this world, in this world, and that’s the Grand Canyon, and I can stand you within 10 feet of it, and you’ll never see it. All you got to do is just turn your back on it, and you’ll never see it. And it’s the same thing with God, we can sit there and turn her back and never see that there’s a God. Now, there’s one thing that God promised to you and me, he says that if anyone comes to him, they must believe that He exists. And that he’s the rewarder of those who diligently seek him. That’s why you will see people who will say in their utter desperation, all they did was say, Oh, God, help. That’s all just help. Who are they doing acknowledge there was a God. And it just possibly he might reward those who diligently seek Him. And Jesus eca and amplify that and said, Anyone who wants to know the will of the Father, I will make myself known to them. Anyone who comes to Jesus has been drawn by the Father, but anyone drawn by the Father is someone who has acknowledged God that is and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. And if they are truly seeking God, not one of their own fabrication, God, as revealed right here, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the Triune God, and truly seeking Him, He said, I’ll get you to Jesus every single time. There’s not a person on the face of the earth that there’s an exception to that.” ~ Bob George

And so we have to realize that the author of the book of Hebrews is saying hang in there don’t give up on what you know to be true, persevere, and you’re going to know that what he promised that He is faithful to deliver. And now it’s picking up with with chapter 11. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Well, let me ask you a question. Do you see? I mean, when you look in a mirror do you look back and see what staring back at you and say Oh, hello there perfect? Do you? I do, I’m just wondering if you did? I don’t think so. Do you look in there and say, Oh, good morning, you holy one? Why hello, they’re righteous. Do you see that? No. But is that true? Yes. God, by that one offering, it says made forever perfect in the sight of God you who he has made holy, He made you holy. He made you perfect. It says that we have been clothed in his righteousness. How folks, if God said that you are clothed in his righteousness, if God said, Bob, there is no way that you’re ever going to walk into the presence of a holy God, unless I make you holy, because an unholy person, how in the world they’re going to go in the presence of a holy God, there is no way that an imperfect person is going to go into the presence of a perfect God. So I’m going to make you perfect, I’m going to make you holy. And I’m going to make you righteous in the sight of God whereby you are clothed in the righteousness of Christ, I’m going to close with my righteousness just as in the Garden of Eden, I had to close Adam who was standing there, and he’s stupid fig leaves that he had made himself that could never clothe anybody. Now, guys, I may not look in a mirror, and look back and say, That’s what I see. But I know full well, that that is true. And looking in the mirror is to be able to look back and say, Lord Jesus, I don’t know how or why you ever chose to do that to me. But I want to tell you one thing, I thank God from the bottom of my heart that you made me holy, because there in any way that I could set myself apart. I thank God that you made me perfect in your sight, because there was no way I could ever make myself perfect in your sight. And I thank God that you clothed me with your righteousness, because I’ll guarantee I don’t have one ounce of righteous on my own. And I thank you for that.
Now I What that is doing is I am sure of what I hoped for. And I am certain of what I don’t see. Now, how did we get sure of what we hope for and certain of what we don’t see? Well, it’s by believing what God said. That’s what’s called faith. Now, it says, By faith, we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command. So that what is seen is not made out of what was visible. Now, guys, I don’t care whether you believe in evolution, if you want to believe you came from a monkey or an ape, that’s okay. You can believe that if you want to, I have to go back to say what my little son said, when he was a little kid one time, if we came from monkeys, how come they’re still monkeys? And that would certainly make you wonder about that, wouldn’t it? But you see if what we’re doing, if a person wants to believe that you could go back to the point point of saying, We came from monkey, and then you came from this, and then you came back to say, well, we finally came from this little tiny atom and the, I don’t care how far back you go, you’re gonna have to ask the question where the atom come from? You’re gonna have to answer that question one way or the other, I don’t care how far back you want to go and evolutionary thought you’re gonna have to come back to the fact that where did that first little cell come from? Who made that one? And you’re gonna have to take us a step of faith. You see, science is the science of observing observable data, not unobservable data. And so the very act of a scientist saying that talking about things as to how they are created violates its own definition of what science is, science doesn’t deal with creation, it deals with what is created. And it deals with the observation of what is created not dealt dealing at all, with how things were created. So the mere fact of a scientist talking about evolution violates his own scientific profession. Because science doesn’t deal with unobservable data, it deals with observable data. And so you’re gonna have to go back to say, well, this universe was formed at God’s command. And there’s just like, you’d have to take a step of faith and where did the atom come from? You’re going to have to take a step of faith in that, that I believe that. In other words, this place had to come from someplace, didn’t it? You imagine the intricacies of our human body that we have just the intricacies of that. The intricacies of the universe, the absolute timing of the universe and how the sun comes up and goes down and how the world is spinning at the same speed and everything else and say Big Bang Theory, just hammer the Big Bang. I don’t know how anybody could even enter that into their minds. But people do that there were just some planets floating around out there and they just bang together and all of a sudden, here we are. And they say it’s like a couple of Cadillacs having a head on collision and making a bunch of Volkswagens, it just, it just does not make an ounce of sense. And yet people get degrees in order to perpetuate that. So we understand the universe was formed at God’s command. So that what was seen what we see today was made out of something that was not seen. And that was always God to this very day, he calls into existence things that are not as if they were, that was always God. Only God could do that. It says, By faith, Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. In other words, what did he do? Well, we believe what God told him to offer, he just believed him and did it. Cain said, I’m gonna put my own I’m gonna do my own, just like we do today. And by faith, he, Abel was commanded, as being a righteous man. When God spoke well of his offering, by faith, he still speaks even though he’s dead. By faith Enoch was taken from his life so did did not experience death, he could not be found because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commanded is one who commended for one who please God, Enoch walked habitually with God. And without faith, it says it’s impossible to please God for anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him. How are you going to come to God if you don’t believe he is? You say, Well, how you gonna believe he is? You know, it says, quite frankly, in the universe, that anybody can look around until there is God. Guys, little kids can understand that type of thing. You can go to a little kid and say, Who made that chair? And say, Daddy for somebody, man, some kind who made this podium? Man. Who made that car? Man. Who made that tree? God. Who made the sky? God. A kid with a minute awareness, knows that man didn’t make the clouds. He knows man didn’t make a tree. Everything that God made, including you and me, man spends the rest of his life trying to figure it out. That’s why today people are still practicing medicine. They’re practicing on you and me. And the reason is, is because we still haven’t figured out man we’re trying but you know, they’ve never figured him out. They haven’t even figured out why trees, why palm trees grow in the south and don’t grow in the north. We haven’t even figured out trees let alone man. And then people come along with authority and say I got your mind figured out they mean they don’t get your body figured out yet. If it was totally figured out, it worked the same way at all times. That would be scientific. Give an aspirin was scientific it would give relieve your headache every single time every single person. Nothing wrong with that, thank God for the medical profession, thank God for those things, they because those things have to be done, you’re doing the best you can. But please don’t worship at the foot as God. It seems strange to be anyway, how we sometimes do that is to worship at the feet of people who are trying to figure out the Creator instead of worshipping at the foot of the Creator. It’s like worshipping at the foot of the auto mechanic instead of the manufacturer, we made the car. And so with we are what we have to realize is that everything God made man will forever be trying to figure out.
So we know it says to know that God is anyone who comes to Him was believed he exists and he rewards those who earnestly seek Him. It should not be difficult for a person to just look around and say there’s a God it shouldn’t be difficult for a person who has ever seen a child born. For those of you who are mothers today that have had that experience, and to see a child born in the intricacies that are there. As we talked about with that little kid living inside of his mother’s womb, totally emeshed in water surrounded by water. As I said when Debbie had her baby fish live in water, not people. Hopefully she didn’t gotta have a fish. And sure enough, she didn’t. How’s the baby breathe? Whoa, because a mother breathes How’s the baby get fed? Because the mother is fed How’s the baby live? Because the mother lives and that baby could say for me to live his mom. How’s all that work? How’s all that work together? You go out and see an animal. And they have a little baby. They come out of that womb, and they head for the milk bar, who told them it was there? You see, and you say, Oh, well, a big bang.
If anyone opened up their eyes and see, they will know there’s a God. Bob George 14:21
We sometimes come up and people will say, Well, what about the heathen in Africa? What do you do with the heathen in Africa that have never heard? I always remember the time I was at a conference with a little guy named Joshua. He is from Biafra, little tiny, bitty guy. And I was a brand new Christian and I had heard this, what about the heathen in Africa? What about the what if they haven’t heard? And so I thought, well, you know, here’s the guy would Biafra I asked him. So I pulled him aside, and I said, Joshua, tell me about that. Tell me, what do you think when people come out and say, What about the heathen in Africa? You lived over there. You were born over there. What do you think about that? He said, I’ll tell you what I think about the heathen in Africa. He said, I used to as a little boy, we worshipped an idol. We used to have this idol that was cut out and carved out of a tree that was in our hut. And we’d sit around in that hut and we would worship that, that little idol. And he said, when I started getting around 9, 10 years of age, he said, I used to look at that little idol in there and say, God, that isn’t you that was made out of a tree. I know who made you I don’t know who made the tree. I know who carved that idol. I saw that done. It could chop down a tree and carved an idol and that’s it. What I want to know is who made the tree and I want to know you, because I’ll guarantee you. We didn’t make that one. And he said I kept growing in that he said I’d look up at this Sky and say, God, we didn’t make that up there either. Who are you? And he said, while I was sitting in my little village, saying, God, I want to know you, I want to know you. God was putting on a heart as a missionary in New York, to come into my little village. And tell me about Jesus. And he said, One day when I was about 15, or 16 years of age, a missionary came in our little village was sitting in there worshiping our little idol. But my heart was saying, God, I want to know you. And he said, This guy came in told me about Jesus in the first time, he told me, I gave my heart to him, and was converted. And he said, I went back in with my mom and dad, my family, and we told them about Jesus, and all of them came to Christ. And he said, Before long, we had gathered the village around, and we were telling the entire village about the Lord Jesus Christ, and they started coming to Christ. So he said, Now I’m over in America, trying to share Christ with the heathen in Los Angeles. We worry about the heathen and Africa, there’s plenty of us over here. It doesn’t make any difference whether you’re in Africa could Biafra, Afghanistan, Iran, Dallas, Texas, it doesn’t make an ounce of difference. Anyone who sincerely wants to know the will of God, Jesus said, well know what I say about myself is true. There’s not a person on the face of this earth since creation began that did not sincerely want to know God that he did not get the message of grace to him. That’s a promise of God, we never have to worry about someone not hearing if they haven’t heard, it’s because they didn’t want to. And we have that promise of God. And anyone who wants to know, the will of God will know what I say about myself is true. And I’ll get someone to tell them, we’d never have to worry about that when that’s a smokescreen.
And so it says that, without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists, and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. So what is believing? God, you’re there, I believe you. And that is pleasing to Him because of what the results are going to be. Does God love you and me as far as his creation? Does he want the best for you and me? Guys, do you realize that any parent and I realize there’s some bad parents, I realize some of you have probably grown up with some bad ones, I’m talking about the norm. There is not a father or mother that at least has the heart of God in that, that ever wants the worst for their kids. Whenever we give advice to our children, it’s not because I want to cramp their style or to try to make them miserable, but it’s experience has to mean something. And if you’ve been down the pike, and you’ve gained some years of experience, why ignore that, and recreate the wheel in your own life. And we try to spare many times are our own kids of some of the mistakes that we ourselves have made. Because we knew what it did to us. We knew the destruction and it did. So you try to warn. And a child can either take advice of that, and to say my dad and mom have been through this thing, let’s listen to them. Or again, rebelliously say I’m going to do it my way and say fine, you will get the repercussions of it. And the reason you want your children to listen to you is because you know the repercussions that you’ve seen in your life and you don’t want it in theirs, and you’re trying to spare them. So the advice comes from love. When you’re telling your kids about the dangers that are out there, you’re not telling them that to try to cramp their style. It’s because you love them. And Debbie was in high school as a teenage kid. I told her I don’t want you out necking in a car. They didn’t even know what that term meant. How come, because it isn’t fun? Well of course not can’t think of anything any funner that’s why I don’t want you doing it. It can lead to other things that are also fun that destroy you. So it isn’t the case of wanting to cramp somebody’s style you’re very much aware of human nature. You’re very much aware of your human weaknesses of your frailties. And to realize there there I could be and it kid says Don’t you trust me? Well, of course. No, I don’t trust you. Wouldn’t trust me out there. Why would I trust you? We have said oh yes I just trust Yes, I trust you. Well, can we got the light on then? Of course we don’t. How to where do you gotta trust sinful man? How are you gonna say you’re gonna trust this flesh of mine? Of course you don’t trust this flesh of ours, I hope you don’t. It’s why it says to flee. And we have to flee from things why? The temptations are there. What’s it mean? I can get drug into them, so can you. There’s not a sin alive that you’re incapable of committing. There’s not a sin alive, I’m incapable of committing. We have to understand that. And so when we’re talking about it, giving advice to your children it isn’t to try to cramp their style, it’s for their good, it’s because what can occur? A wise child it says obeys their parents, why? Well it’s good for them. It’s good. You know, what says about the oposite? Says a rebel is what? Well it’s a fool. Why are you a fool when you’re a rebel? Because you’re willfully going out and doing something is going to destroy you. I mean, if you saw a fork in the road, and there’s a sign down here that says, caution quicksand and a cliff. And another path over here that said, this is a good road, and you intentionally said, I’m taking the quicksand road. Well, what would you have to say about that person? Yeah. So you’re a fool. How come? Man, there’s a sign there telling you where you’re gonna go, and you still want to go into it. We’re fools.
Husbands love your wife as Christ loved the church, who said, I’m not going to do that. Well, then we’re fools. Wives, submit yourself to your husband. I don’t want to do that. It’s because you’re a fool. She said, I’m gonna do it my way. That’s old time stuff. Submission. Come on. We live in a 19th century. We’re liberated. You look like you are. And so we go out and how we can get successful and also ruin our families. And so you see, when the Bible is talking to us, it is not talking to us. In order to cramp or style, the Bible is the most practical thing on the face of the earth. He said, You want a family to run in harmony just like you want. You want to have all four cylinders to be working so your car will run effectively. Here’s how it’s done. Wives submit yourself to your husbands. Husbands love your wife as Christ loved the church. Children obey your parents, fathers don’t exasperate your kids and anger hidden. That’s um, just four little things that he says. If you will enter into that. You’ll have harmony in your home. No, that’s that’s not that’s not good. It says, Okay, go do it your way. And when your tongues hanging down to your knees, and you’re scrambling around looking for advice from one counselor to another, well, you might decide to come back to what I said. Because it’s truth. I said that truth will set you free. Free to be all that God makes you and me to be. Free to be what God intended us to be.
Now, it goes ahead to say by faith, Noah was warned about not yet seeing things. In holy fear. He built an ark to save his family. Why did he build the ark when God said Build the ark? To save his family. Wives, why should you be submissive to your husband? To save your family. Why husbands, why should you love your wife as Christ loved the church? To save your family. For the sake of your family. Children, why should you obey your parents? For the sake of the family. God forbid, but there’s something more important than you. And I had disgusting thought that there might be some more important than me, and what I want to do and how I feel it had disgusting thought. But there’s something more important called a family. There’s something more important many times and as a body. In the body of Christ, there’s something more important than me and my desires. We have people who grumble and mumble just like we did in the desert, chowing down on manna and loving every bit of it in griping because fellowship isn’t good enough. When you’re dealing with a family, or you’re dealing with an assembly, or you’re dealing with a country, John Kennedy had that right and said don’t Ask what the country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. It’s the same thing in assembly, don’t be asking what this church can do for you ask what you can do for it. It’s the same thing in a family, don’t ask what the family can do for B, I’m gonna get married. So somebody, do something for me ask what you can do for it. And it’s the same thing in any relationship. It’s a servant, an attitude of servitude. Christ said I didn’t come to be served. I didn’t come to sit here and say, Here I am God, now serve me, get my way, get my way, get my way. He said, I came to serve you. And there’s something that that attitude of servitude does. Whether it’s in an assembly, whether it’s in a family or where it is, it creates unity. The spirit of giving is the same type of a thing, Larry Pinker I think hit it on the head, he said, when you’re thinking about giving, you’re not thinking about buying all the time. And if you’re not giving over here, the things the Lord, you’re going to be out there buying something for yourself. But when you’re thinking about giving, you’re thinking about serving others and helping others and you’re not thinking about what can I buy? What can I buy what’s gonna make me happy, what’s gonna make me happy? And what’s gonna make me happy? You’re thinking, how can I serve others. And it’s an attitude of servitude, my friends that comes from a God that we can trust. And so when you’re talking about family relations, or whatever else it might be, you got to check ourselves out, I gotta check myself out. Am I loving my wife as Christ loved the church? How would he love the church? He came to serve her. Do I have an attitude of servitude toward my wife wives? Am I being submissive to my husband? Or I’m trying to run things? Am I trying to be the boss? Am I the one who’s trying to run things? Am I telling you what to do? Am I saying this what we’re going to do and we’re going to do it we’re gonna do it right now. Because I want to. Is that your attitude? Or is there an attitude of servitude that is their one attitude creates harmony in the home, the other is attitude of rebellion, and it’ll destroy a home as surely as I’m talking, your home will get destroyed by it. And brother, there’s homes that are being destroyed all over this country. Not just out there by those who don’t know Christ, but by people who do.

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
