Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P115 (06-05-24)

Quit Listening to the Teaching of Man, and Start Listening to The Holy Spirit Teach You ALL Truth

~ Today, we are to be taught directly by God. We are NOT to listen to the teaching of Man. Don’t trust any man for anything, but in everything go to the word of God in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit if it is so. Don’t place faith in your own understanding of anything today either. Satan has placed false ministers of righteousness everywhere, and even those that were not false ministers who were teaching foundational Truth, they too had been born into a world of deception. And we all were born into this world of deception, which is why we are NOT to lean on our own understanding of anything today. Furthermore, unlike the Israelites with Moses, at Mount Sinai, we have a direct line of communication with God. He lives IN every believer. Satan doesn’t want you to depend on the Holy Spirit in you for anything, he would rather have you listen to the teaching of man, instead of God. For Satan has corrupted the things of this world beyond belief. And because our flesh is so corrupted too, we have all spread the lies of Satan on to others without even realizing we were doing so at the time. Some of you are just now discovering the truth of the world we live in. Some of you, the discipline of the Lord seems very harsh on you, because you still are latching on to the teaching of men rather than God. And if you have not changed your mind (repented) on anything of the world’s teachings in the past four years, then you are not being taught by God. Many are rebelling against the foundational TRUTH of the word of God. They know what the bible says, but because they listen to the teaching of man, they don’t have a clue what the word of God means. The foundation begins with Jesus, who is TRUTH. From there it is faith from first to last. Don’t rebel against the discipline of the Lord today. Listen to Him speaking directly to you. You don’t need Man to tell you what the word of God means. Ask for wisdom from God and it will be given to you with great abundance, without finding fault. Jesus is our Wisdom in All things. Start abiding in Him today, and do not shrug off the discipline of the Lord.

~ Hebrews 12:14-29

Pursue peace with everyone, as well as holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God, and that no root of bitterness springs up to cause trouble and defile many. See to it that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected. He could find no ground for repentance, though he sought the blessing with tears.

For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom, and storm; to a trumpet blast or to a voice that made its hearers beg that no further word be spoken. For they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned.” The sight was so terrifying that even Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”

Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to myriads of angels in joyful assembly, to the congregation of the firstborn, enrolled in heaven. You have come to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

See to it that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if the people did not escape when they refused Him who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject Him who warns us from heaven? At that time His voice shook the earth, but now He has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth, but heaven as well.”The words “Once more” signify the removal of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that the unshakable may remain.

Therefore, since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us be filled with gratitude, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. “For our God is a consuming fire.”Hebrews 12:14-29

Pray to God:

“Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “And so in verse 11, Chapter 12, it says, No discipline seems pleasant at the time, it’s painful later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness, and of peace for those who have been trained by it. The thing of it is, folks, we don’t allow the discipline of God to train us, we let him teach us and some of you are sitting out there with more stuff in your heads, then you got room for. And we sit around like a Bible says, and we are constantly learning and never able to come to TRUTH. And we know more about what we’re not experiencing. And I want to tell you something, folks, the more that you know, about what you’re not experiencing, the more depressed you’re gonna get. You see, we think knowledge does something for you, when you don’t apply what you know, and put it into practice. And the more that you know, becomes the more you know about what you’re not experiencing the polarization between what you know, and the reality the Christian life keeps getting greater and greater and greater through the knowledge of the more you know. So if you’re not going to put it in practice, you’re better off doing being dumb as cluck. You’re better off not knowing anything, if you’re not gonna put it into practice, because the more you know that you don’t put it into practice, the wider the polarization gets between truth and reality. And so what he’s saying today is allow the discipline of God to train us. It it’s what enables us to walk by faith. It’s the thing that enables us what our guts are hanging out to be able to say, Lord Jesus, I’m going to trust you with this. I’m going to trust you with it. You said you’ll cause it to work together for good and I believe it. I’m going to trust you with it. I thank you for it. That’s not easy. But it’s what trains you, not teaches you, trains you.” ~ Bob George

Hebrews 12. Beginning in chapter 12. We’ve been talking about in Chapter 12, about the discipline of the Lord. And that is not a paddling. That is where God is disciplining us into our minds by teaching us truth that will set us free. And it is not easy. We don’t like to be rebuked. We don’t like to be told that we’re wrong. But it is something that God is continually in the process of doing is renewing our minds. And, folks, what we live in today, and many times what the Christian world lives in today is between the Jesus that was at my conversion, and boy, we talk about that when I was saved when I saved and 30 years later, boy when I was saved, when I was saved 40 years later when I was saved when I was saved. And we if we’re not preoccupied with that, then we get preoccupied with the Jesus that will be so we talk about prophecy when he’s coming back when he’s coming back when he’s coming back. And you know, again, that’s the lost world says I’d like to commit suicide, the saved world says wish Jesus hurry up and get back. In both cases, same stuff, you’re just sick of the place. Because between the God that was and the God that will be is the God who is. And why do we want to walk by faith in the God who was just glorying in our conversion experience, and then glorying in the fact that Jesus is coming back and live in the pits in the meantime? That’s a good question, isn’t it? And we’re gonna walk by faith in the fact that Christ is coming back and we can walk by faith and the fact that he saved us whenever it was 900 years ago, or however old we are, then what about the Jesus? Who is who lives in us right now? And why should we walk around with straight faces straight laced, sober and sad look like we just ate a skunk. When we’ve got the hope of the world ahead of us, where we’re going, I know beyond a shadow of doubt, and I know exactly where I’ve been. And why shouldn’t I rejoice in where I am? We’ve lost our zeal and our faith in the living God.

I have been asked to go up to Kansas City to speak to about a 2000 conference. It’s going it’s a prophecy conference, one of our guys came to one of our training, Hal Lindsey is going to be there, and Dave Hunt and a whole bunch of the prophecy people it’s going to be a weekend on prophecy. And he’s asked about come into the last message and wrap up the conference. And what about the Jesus who is? And that’s what we’re gonna, we’re gonna do that. And that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about. It’s great to sit around talking about the Christ that is coming, but I got news, if you’re in Christ, He’s already here. And so what’s gonna happen? What is going to happen at the rapture? Personally, I don’t care, and I don’t care when it comes, I’m gonna be there. And if I live through it, or don’t, the grace of God is going to sustain you and me that is an event that I know is going to occur. But what about today? This is where I gotta live right now, today, that’s going to be some glorious experience someday, I’m probably at my age going to be raptured naturally, before long, and an either way, we’re going to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. And that’s good news. But what about today? And that’s what this book of Hebrews is talking about. The book of Hebrews is dealing with the fact that what about today, you’re going through trials, we go through tribulations. I know that he’s saying I realized that but it’s strengthens you and you can approach those trials and tribulations with a woe is me attitude, or we can approach those trials and tribulations with God’s gonna teach me something in the midst of this. And that’s what discipline is, and it doesn’t seem pleasant at the time. But discipline is what God uses to strengthen us for the battle at hand. It is not easy living in his world. It’s not easy being married. It’s not easy having children it’s not easy trying to make a living. The world is not easy, but did not Jesus say in this world you’re gonna have what? Tribulation, why should that shock any of us? Why should we walk around shocked when things aren’t going well? We ought to be shocked when they are. But you see, we’ve grown in this mentality that now I’m in Jesus and everything is gonna be a should be alright because I’m such a righteous dude. I mean, after I belong to the Baptist church or I belong the Presbyterian Church, I am a righteous person. So everything should go right for me. Well how righteous do you think Jesus was? Did everything go right for him? I don’t think so. If you want to take a look at the cross, it was rough experiences. How about Paul? Paul died and the last thing he asked for was in prison said will you please bring my parchments and my cloak, I’m cold. He had nothing. Didn’t even have his Bible with him, would be his parchments. His writings, he didn’t have a cloak to put on he was cold. So we have he must add unconfessed sin in his life. He must have been to church on Wednesday. His something? No, that’s the world in this world, we are going to have tribulation. But he said Fear not I have overcome the world. There’s something to be thinking about more than ourselves and what’s going on with me. And that is to get our eyes elevated in what’s going on with Him. In the midst of what’s going on with me. We can experience victory through a preoccupation with us, and what’s going on with us. Our victory has to come and what’s going on with Him. What is He doing? In the midst of whatever I am doing? Yeah, times are tough. Yeah, things are get into pits. I get in there, too. Do you think you’re the only one of the black clouds coming on you? Yeah, I got black ones too. And they hit you. And it’s tough and it’s rough. And as long as I keep thinking about me and my circumstance, it gets rougher and rougher and rougher. Have you ever noticed that? It’s what talks about with sin go on sinning and God forbid you’ll become a slave to it. What do you think worry is when you give in to worry? What do you think you become when you give in to worry? A slave to worry. There’s no exception to that. What do you think you do when you get into depression, you become a slave to depression. Why? Because you’re a slave to depressing thoughts. And as long as we have our minds on ourselves, and our circumstances, we’re going to become a slave to ourselves. And our circumstances, victory does not come from a preoccupation with me. It comes from a preoccupation with Him. And this is what this again, the book of Hebrews is trying to say to us.

And so in verse 11, Chapter 12, it says, No discipline seems pleasant at the time, it’s painful later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness, and of peace for those who have been trained by it. But it’s what trains you, not teaches you, trains you.

And so it says therefore strengthen your feeble arms and your weak knees. Make level paths for your feet. So the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. Now he’s talking about as a child of the living God make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy. In other words to be Set apart. And we talked about that over the last week without being set apart, no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God. You see what it says folks, it didn’t say See to it that no one misses the law of God. It says See to it that no one misses the grace of God. And folks, Grace isn’t something we sing on Sunday. That’s amazing. It’s not a song to be sung. It’s a reality, to be realized. The grace of God is true whether we plug into it or not. It’s like a water faucet. The power company has water available to you. All you got to do is turn on the faucet. The faucet doesn’t create the water. The water company brings it in. We just release it. And that is exactly what we do in regard to our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ that it is there his love is there it is at never ending. His provision is there it is never ending. His mercy is there it is never ending. His wisdom is there it is never ending. But instead of turning on his faucet, we got our own over there called her own wisdom, denominational wisdom, religious wisdom. And so we go to that faucet and turn it on and something dribbles out. We say Oh, praise God, Pentecost all over again. And we don’t realize that instead of plugging into truth, we’re plugging into error that is binding us.

Now it says See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no Bitter Root or no root, bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many, bitterness, James said, Wherever there’s envy and strife and selfish ambition, there’s evil of all kinds. It says, See to it, that’s not part of our lives. And see to it that no one is sexually immoral, nor is godless, like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. And afterwards, as you know, when he wanted to inherit a blessing he was rejected. He could bring about no change of mind though he sought a blessing with tears. And we talked about last week, how Esau for the immediate In other words, man, I’m hungry, give me some soup. And of course, he’s brother was there his little deceiving brother. Isn’t it amazing. I’m the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And Jacob was called The One Who deceived you. And so Jacob certainly deceived him and got his birthright away from him. Because oh Esau he didn’t care about what was going to happen in the future. I’m hungry right now. So you got some soup for me birthright? Sure. Give it up. I don’t care. And he’s saying, don’t look at your birthright in that manner. Are you a child of the living God? Yes. Are you going to be one of these days absent from the body and present with the Lord? Yes, are you is child? Yes, don’t give that. Keep that in the foremost of your mind, this is who I am. Don’t walk away from that. Don’t take that for granted. That is your birthright. Don’t walk away from it for a pot of soup. In other words, don’t give up your inheritance, for an immediacy of the fulfillment of the flesh.

Now guys in this world in which we live is God initiated government. Government is for the benefit of the whole, we’ll see that in a moment as God gave the 10 commandments to people to nations. It’s for the benefit of the whole. And you have when you have leaders and rulers, they are to be there for the benefit of the whole. And the reason for that is you don’t need laws to ensure that we all think about ourselves, do we? I mean, can you imagine a law I got a law there that you got to think about yourself? Hardly so. So the you don’t need laws for that. We’re all thinking about ourselves. And we’re all looking out for the best interests of me. That’s why there’s so many of these special interest groups in a country is because everyone’s looking out for me and my rights and me. So government had to be set up to look out for the benefit of the whole. Now you bring that down as an example to a family unit. And you take a family, let’s say of 10 it is the that’s what God assigned just like he assigned people who are rulers, and he said those people are not your enemies. He also assigned in the home for the man to be on the family, the one who is to be looking out for the benefit of the whole, obviously, he’s looking at after himself. But he says yours also to be looking at for the benefit of the family. And again, you don’t have to see the confusion, my friends that can take place in what’s taking place as an example, in a nation, same thing took place in a nation of Israel, just break it down to a family of 10 or 12, or whatever you want to. And if you got into a family where the father ceased to be, or the head ceased to be the controlling factor, that he was the one who was assigned to look out for the benefit of the whole. And all of a sudden, he was just a pawn in the whole, while you can see what’s going to happen to a family. And so one of the kids come up and says, Hey, I don’t like what’s going on here. You know, my, my older brother there, he’s 16, he gets to drive a car and, and I’m only 12. But I got my rights, and I want to drive a car. And so the next thing you know, the car’s gone, he says, I got my rights, and I got my rights. And before long, you’ve got turmoil in that family, don’t you? You see, all it takes to mess up a family is one rebel, and no ruler, and you got a problem. And so when we live in it in how we live today, you’ve got to live, society has to live under laws. If man wasn’t sinful, that wouldn’t necessarily be the case, we could just listen to God and what He says. But because we are sinful, and because we are selfish, because we all are like sheep who have gone astray, and each one wants to do his own thing. That’s where you have to have organization, and laws and government in order to govern and control the desires of the flesh of man. And whenever we allow the desires of the flesh of man to control the good of the whole, you’ve lost a family, you’ve lost a nation, it’s just that simple. A family can’t survive with no leadership in it. A family cannot survive with every kid up demanding his own way. A family can only survive when he realizes there is a head that God is put there to determine what is the benefit of a whole thank God, you’ve got a wife there to help with that process. And to realize that we’re you have adults and children that the children do not rule the adults, it’s the other way. And there is a downward trust of authority that must take place in a family, if a family is going to survive. And when the and when the man will not take that leadership, the family falters. And when a kid demands his own ways and gets it, the family will also falter. Now in as much as you’ve got kids like you do people in a country who are demanding and we have placed that demands its own way, are you ever going to alleviate those kinds of demands? Of course not. That’s why you have to have someone strong at the top to say, we’re not doing it that way. And the kid says I’m going out and the father says no, you’re not. And he says, Yes, I am. He said what do you do when you get in between him and the door. And if you got to wrassling to the floor, you’re wrestling to the floor, if that’s your decision, and he didn’t go on out. And the reason you have rebellious kids today, just like you had back in those days of Esau on them is because of weakness on the part of adults who are scared to death to take the authority that God gave them in order to say, I am the one who’s going to determine what is right and wrong for this home. Now i a home. It’s just like an a government or a government was built this government was built on the basis out of the Bible with the judicial system, your legislative system and your executive. It’s like a three prong stool. And every one of those branches is like a prong you take one of them out, the stool falls over. And it’s the same thing in a family. You’ve got the you’ve got the man who has been put in charge of a family and he’s got a position he’s got a right and a position there to exercise for the benefit of the good of that family. You’ve also got your legislative and you’ve got your wife in there, you’ve got your consideration and it’s not the case that you’re sitting there saying, I am the ruler. The job of the husband is to consult when it comes to the kids and that type of thing. There wasn’t anyone who knew more about my kids. meaning she was with him more than I was. And so if I want to know something about the kids, that’s who I went to consult with. But the decision I had to finally make that decision was very seldom ever in contrast to what she was recommending, because she knew when the decision was made, it was my job to carry it out. And that’s the function in a family. And it’s the function of a man and you got a weak man in a family, you’re certainly not going to have weak kids. I’ve had kids sometimes say, Oh, I’m weak, say, you’re not weak, you’re strong as horseradish, you’re the stubbornest person, I know, you are strong, you’re not weak, you’re strong, you want to fulfill the desires, your flesh, more than anybody I know. That’s strong, that’s not weak, it’s strong. And that’s why somebody in a friend, the process of a home, and that is the father’s role has got to sit down and say, no that it’s not the way it’s gonna be. And it’s the same way in a country. So laws had to be established for the benefit of the whole. And that’s why God gave them to us. But in the meantime, and what the book of Hebrews is dealing with here is, in the meantime, within the confines of a country, there are people that don’t need to be led by the law, because they’re going to be led internally by something greater than the law.

Now, this was the case with the Israelites. And so he’s talking about we’ve got a brand new inheritance, we have a brand new says, Don’t be godless, like he thought realize what your birthright is. You’ve come to a mountain, it says, You have not come to a mountain that can be touched, and that is burning with fire, to darkness to gloom to storm. You haven’t been called to that kind of a mountain, to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word would be spoken to them, because they couldn’t bear what was commanded. Even if an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned. The site was so terrifying that Moses said, I am trembling with fear. Now let’s turn back to Exodus for a moment the book of Exodus chapter 20. Let’s go to verse nine or chapter 19, rather, beginning in verse 12. So just go to verse 10. And the Lord said to Moses, Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, have them wash their clothes and be ready on the third day because on that day, the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. Put limits on the people around the mountain and tell them Be careful that you do not go up to the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain so surely be put to death, he shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows, not a hand is to be laid on him, whether man or animal he should not be permitted to live. Only when the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, may they go up to the mountain. After Moses had gone down the mountain to the people, he consecrated and washed their clothes, and he said to the people, prepare yourselves for the third day and abstain from sexual relations. On the morning of the third day, there was thunder and lightning, a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast, and everyone in the camp trembled. And then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain, Mount Sinai was covered with smoke. Because the Lord descended on it in fire, the smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the whole mountain trembled violently. And the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. And then Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him, the Lord descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up and the Lord said to him, go down and warn the people. So they do not force their way through to sea, the Lord and many of them perish. Even the priests who approach the Lord must consecrate themselves or the Lord will break out against them. Moses said to the Lord, the people cannot come up to Mount Sinai because you yourself warned us put limits around the mountain and set it apart as holy. And the Lord replied, Go down and bring Aaron up with you. But the priests and the people must not forced their way through to come up to the Lord, or he’ll break out against them. And so Moses went down to the people, and he told them and the Lord spoke all of these words. He said, I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt and out of the land of slavery, is talking to the Israelites. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or to form anything in heaven, above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them for I the LORD your God, I am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of their fathers to the third and fourth generation to those who hate me, but showing love to 1000 generations to those who love Me and keep My commandments. You shall not miss use the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses the name. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all of your work, but the seventh is the Sabbath to the Lord your God. And on it you shall not do any work, neither you nor your son or daughter, nor your man servant, or your maid servant, nor your animals, nor alien with your gates. For in the six days the LORD made the heavens, the sea of the earth, and the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. And therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy. Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land and the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his maid servant, or man servant, or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor. And when people saw the thunder and the lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear, and they stayed at a distance. And they said to Moses, speak to us yourself, and we’ll listen. But don’t have God speak to us or we’ll die. Still the same thing today isn’t it? Moses, you can speak to us but I don’t want to hear God. Let some man tell me something but boy, God don’t tell me.
