Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P02 (08-30-23)

The Book of Hebrews Explains Forgiveness Was Finished at The Cross

Today, people are holding on to their traditions instead of trusting in the word of God. People have grown up Catholic, or Protestant, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist and on and on it goes, and they are trusting in their traditions taught by men. And here is the thing, most traditions are lies, continually sold by Satan in order to convince people that they are saved through their traditions, or coming down an aisle to “get their sins forgiven.” They refuse to hear truth today, spoken to them by the Holy Spirit. Because after all, they have their favorite pastor or teacher that teaches their other favorite pet sin to get on the bandwagon to condemn it, all the while ignoring the biggest sin of all time, unbelief in the finished work of Jesus Christ. It’s the sin that so easily entangle a person. For they do not see it for what it is. They are calling God a liar by word and deed. When they continually ask God to forgive them, they haven’t a clue that Jesus forgave (past tense) them at the cross. Or they think they asked one time for God to forgive them, as in some form of blanket forgiveness, that that somehow caused God to forgive them when they asked for forgiveness the first time. Folks, that is NOT salvation. Salvation is NOT getting your sins forgiven. Salvation is receiving His Life in you through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit of God. Those that continually promote people that teach the lie of ongoing forgiveness or forgiveness just for the elect, they themselves are being a spokesperson for Satan. For Satan doesn’t want people to know the TRUTH. Can you imagine going up to Jesus in person, in the flesh, and asking him, Jesus I know you forgave me at the cross, but please forgive me? Again and again and again. That is NOT faith. That is an indication of unbelief. It’s an indication that they have NOT placed faith in the fact that God was in Christ Jesus reconciling the world to himself, not counting their sins against them.

In this study of the book of Hebrews, you will come to understand the New Covenant and that Forgiveness was completed by God at the cross. Be prepared for idols to fall. And remember, we are NOT saved by the death of Jesus, but by the LIFE of Jesus.

~ But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. Romans 5:8-10

~ On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets. But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs. Hebrews 1:1-4

—–

~ “Now, as a result of this type of thing, but you’ve had people that have come down and when it comes to salvation, because we do not understand the verse that I was quoting, while we were yet enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more much more having been reconciled, that that’s been cleared, shall we be saved by His life. Because if people don’t understand that you’re saved by His life, we’re saved from the wages of sin, which is death, and the only solution to death is what? Life, not saved by the death of Christ. You’re saving the life of Christ. Now he could not have been raised from the dead with the newness of life had he not died, and he could not have ushered in the New Covenant had he not died, because a will cannot go into effect until the one who made it died. But his death was so that he could usher in this New Covenant that you and I live in today whereby he said their sins and lawless acts I’ll remember no more. And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any, any sacrifice for sins. And so you see, we’re not saved by the death of Christ. We’re saved for the life of Christ. Well, because we don’t understand that salvation is life, and we think salvation just came through the cross and the cross alone, why people come up and say, oh, when John said that he not only died for our sins, but the sins of the whole world, that could not be true, because that’d be everybody was saved. So we’re gonna do something else with that verse. So he said, he’s just talking about the elect. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life that just for the elect. No, it’s for the world. It’s for the world. The sins the cross was for the world. There is nothing left for a Hitler, or a you, for me to do, except to receive life, to accept that I am dead in my sins, and in the uncircumcision of my sinful nature and turn to him for life. The reason that any man and woman boy and girl on the face of this earth can come to Christ, by faith is because their sins have been totally eradicated at the cross, that issue is done. If it was not done, when you came to Christ, he had have to come and die and bleed again for you to come and shed his blood again for you then say, Okay, now you’re ready. So he died for the sins of the whole world. But that’s not salvation. Now, we have people flooding down aisles to receive salvation, only around forgiveness. And they walk away from that experience, no different than the man who went to the Day of Atonement. And he got his sins forgiven for the last year.” ~ Bob George

Now, as a result of this type of thing, but you’ve had people that have come down and when it comes to salvation, because we do not understand the verse that I was quoting, while we were yet enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more much more having been reconciled, that that’s been cleared, shall we be saved by His life. And he got his sins forgiven for the last year.

Before we go on, is everyone freezing in here, I see you putting on your coats, very good. We get some heat or something in here. I’m doing okay, because my hands are flapping. But if they weren’t, they’d be falling off. So you, you see, you get the picture that this whole area of salvation then is dealing with the cross, that’s what took away the sins of the world, and then raised from the dead, so that you and I could receive life. Now, as we approach then, you’re going to see there are people there were people back then, just like today, who saw Christ in His fullness as who he was, saw Christ, in His completeness. And then you will find those who were just following Him as Messiah. They recognize this as the Messiah and this Messiah. Yeah, he was crucified, but we understand he’s coming back. And they’re not following Him for personal salvation. They’re still following him for the restoration of Israel. So they’re not coming to him for salvation, they’re coming to him for restoration. There were those back then. And there are those today who are doing the same thing. They are followers of Christ, but not possessors of Christ. And so to the book of Hebrews, it’s going to address all of these issues. As we’ve talked about so many times and as we get into this book is to understand what we’ve said, so many times in regard to the Bible, you will hear time and time again. The theological community or anybody else come up and say this book was written to Christians. John was written to Christians first John was written to Christian, there isn’t any book written to Christians. It was written to a Christian pastor, who was to read that book in a congregation that was made up of lost people and saved people, just like any congregation today with the understanding that if the shoe fits, wear it. And so we get confused in our Biblical understanding by thinking this was written to Christians. No, it was written to the world. So when he’s talking about following Christ, you may be talking about some people who are sitting here right today who are followers but not possessors. People who are following Christ, but are not being led by His internal spirit because they’ve never been born again. It’s a possibility. You see, as a Christian, do you follow Christ? Or are you led by His Spirit? See, I already have followed Christ, I followed him to where he was going, he went to the cross, and I followed him there. And there I saw my sins. And there I saw his forgiveness. I then followed him to the empty tomb, where I found it was empty. And then I followed him to where he said, that same Spirit that raised me from the dead, I’m going to put in you and raise you from the dead. And I realized my deadness and accepted him for my life. So I was born again. And so we’re going to have to understand that that there is a world of difference between an enlightened soul and an unregenerate spirit. And you’re going to see this come out in this book of Hebrews, probably more than any book that I know of in the New Testament. So I think it’s gonna be an exciting time for us. So let’s get started.

You’re going to see the author’s saying in the past, God spoke to our forefathers, through the prophets, at many times, and in various ways. But, here’s the contrast. In these last days, he is spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. Now folks let’s take for just a moment. Again, he was speaking, approximately 1500 2000 years ago. And he said, In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets. And at many times, and in various ways. You’re going to see that this book of Hebrews is constantly dealing with the superiority of Christ, over everything that was held dear into the heart of the Hebrew. It also you’re going to see the superiority of Christ, as superior to everything held in the heart as sacred to the Baptist, or to the Presbyterian, or to the Catholic or to the Episcopal. Because we are plagued with tradition, not only back then among Hebrewism, but today under the banner of Christianity, aren’t we? And we have some people who wear collars, and we have some people to wear suits. And you have some places with stained glass, and organs blasting, and then you’d have people with just venetian blinds.

And you have all kinds of tradition that we have a tendency to want to worship at the feet of, don’t we? And this book of Hebrews is saying, I’m going to cut the legs out of every bit of that. Because Christ is superior to all of that garbage, human tradition as Paul said, I consider it dung compared to that, and no one Christ. It is not as a kid, say where it’s at. It’s not where it’s at. And so you’re going to see that all these dearly held traditions, as deep as those are as strong as they are, Paul is saying, you cannot grow in Christ and be holding on to these traditions, you’re going to have to let go and latch on to something else. We have talked about before it to me it is like the trapeze artist. And he swings out about halfway across the net. And there’s another place over there he’s supposed to get to, but that bar swinging out there won’t get him there. There’s another one that swings out from that location. And if he’ll grab a hold of that one, he can get to the other side. And that’s a perfect picture of whatever you and I are holding on to. We want to get over there. We want to get over to the Sabbath rest. We want to get over to that point life where we see it’s all him and none of us. But we grabbed a hold of this bar of tradition and habits and all of these other things that we hold on to and we swing out on our way over to the other side. Man, the other side’s in view and it’s looking good over there. And then we come to the end. And we go right back to where we came from. And so you say, well better try a little harder. It’s the same thing we do, when we do not realize that Christ is put our sins behind his back never to see him again. And when we do not realize that if you are in Christ that He has promised something to you, and that is that he’s going to complete the work that he began in you. And we say, That looks great. It’s over there on that ledge over there. And out, we go headed toward him completing the work that he was going to begin in us and we reached the end. And so we go back and say, I’m going to try harder, kick off a little harder. And so we kick off a little harder. Now, we will again, hit right in the middle and back again. There’s another bar that’s coming up to us. And that’s the one that gets you to the other side. But in order to get to the other side, there has to be a willingness to let go of this one, and grab on to the new one. The problem with that is there is a period of time when you’re hanging in midair. And that is scary. But that’s the only way to do it. You cannot grab on until you let go. And it’s a scary little period of time. But once you let go to that other bar, it takes you over to where you want to go along the promised land. It takes you over to the Sabbath rest. It takes you over to where he wants you to go.

Bob George 13:49
Now the only option, you got three options one option keep hanging on to the bar and going out and coming back and trying harder next time Lord I’ll do it. Please forgive me God I’ll do better next time out to go again. Come back. Oh God, please forgive me walk the aisle 10 times were out the carpet First John one nine yourself death. Just Oh God, please forgive me. I’ll do better. I’ll do better. I promise I’ll do better now out you go again and spend the rest of your life swinging back and forth on that stupid bar. And you can do that if you want to. And I have people anymore when they want to argue with me on that say hey, if you’re happy just swinging out there and back. Just keep at that to you know, just keep going back and forth and trying harder. If that’s the way you want to live your life. If you want to wander in the desert and chow down on mana for the rest of your life. You can go chow down on some mana. And if that’s where you want to live your life Heaton mana. Have at it. If you ever want to start drinking from wells that you didn’t dig and eating from plants that you didn’t plant and going into the Sabbath rest. There’s some good news for you, but it didn’t hang on to that ole bar. So that the one option is to hang on to the old bar and keep First John one nining first John one nine and yourself to death and all that other stuff you didn’t hang on to that if you want to. The other option is to let go and grab on to the sufficiency of Christ and go to the other side, there’s a third option, and that is grab a hold of both. And here you are just dangling legs kicking out there hanging on to that. And that’s where you’re going to spend your life because you’re afraid let go either one of them. So here you are, with one arm hanging on to sufficient of Christ, the others hanging on your tradition and out there kicking like an idiot. Thing of it is you can live that way for a while, but you’re gonna let go of one of them sooner or later. You’re either gonna let go one and swing back to where you came from. That’s what Hebrews is going to talk about. Or you’re going to have to let go and go to the promised land. But you can’t dangle out there forever. Get on one of the two bars. But don’t dangle forever. You cannot mix law and grace and survive. That’s the story of the book of Hebrews.

So he’s going to say, then show the superiority of Christ over first of all Hebrew religion, you’re going to see that all religion, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over the prophets over the word of the prophets, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over angels. You’re going to see the superiority of Christ over Moses, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over Joshua, you’re going to see it over the Levitical priesthood, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over the covenant that they were under, you’re going to see the superiority of Christ over the sacrifices that they were involved in. And then finally, you’re going to see it over this guy called Melchizedek, of whom Abraham gave an offering to in which the Baptists have based their tithing on. I’m serious, that’s where tithing came from. Melchizedek, one little verse, and when we go over that, you’ll see the stupidity of that one as well. And under the New Covenant, and so all of these sacred cows are gonna get shot in the book of Hebrews. So if you got any sacred cows prepared to lose them, because they are gonna get annihilated if you listen to what is said in the book of Hebrews.

So he said, In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets and many times and in various ways. But in these last days, he’s spoken to us by his Son. Now, again, you see the contrast, in the old days and the old times he spoke through the prophets, he spoke to our forefathers in many various ways. What were some of the other ways he spoke to them? And dreams. Did he not? Sure, in visions did he not in all of those kinds of things, but but contrast. And these days, he’s spoken to us through His Son. Now, we have brought into modern day Christianity, where people don’t want to be spoken to by his Son, and their backs, still claiming they’re being spoken to the way the Bible says. That’s the way he used to speak to her, but he didn’t do it anymore. And we’re I had this vision, and I had this dream. And we got some guys here. Listen, this case guy that we’re on, the guy comes on after us. It’s unbelievable. Probably better off not listening. Boy he’s in dreamed, interpreting all the dreams just got sent a little money to get that interpretation. But if you send them in, and all these dreams, and then you got people coming up with their visions, and everybody’s got a vision, that’s how every cult in the world got started was through a vision. That’s how everyone got started. If you’re going to walk by faith, you’re gonna have to walk by faith, not in visions, and not in dreams and not in stuff that you’ve seen out there. But you’re gonna have to walk by faith and what was revealed by the Son of God, Jesus Christ through his word that he gave to us today. And so we don’t walk by visions, and we don’t walk by dreams and we don’t walk by fantasy we walked by faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave himself for us. And the very Son who said that My Word is TRUTH. And if you abide in my word, then you will know the truth and that truth will do what? Set you free. You cannot depend upon visions and dreams and impressions. You’ve got something much more solid than that. Faith is on him the Son, contrasted by a little word, but, but in these last days, in contrast to the way he used to speak to us, in these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he is appointed heir of all things and through whom he made the universe.

Well, folks, let’s go back to the book of Colossians, for just a minute. Colossians chapter one, verse 15, Colossians 1:15. The book of Hebrews just told us that he is heir over all things. He made the universe. Colassians says He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him, this is Christ, all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers, or rulers or authorities, all things were created by Him. And for him, he Christ is before all things. And in Him, all things hold together. He Christ is the head of the body, the church, he Christ is the beginning and the first born from among the dead, so that in everything he, Christ might have supremacy. For God was pleased to have all of his folders to dwell, where? In him. Who? Christ and through him. Who? Christ, to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth, or things in heaven. How? By making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Christ is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being sustaining all things by his powerful word. It’s the magnificence the supremacy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Turn back to the Gospel of John, first chapter. First chapter, John, In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God. And the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning, through him, that’s Christ, all things were made. And without him, nothing was made, that has been made. In him, Christ was life. And that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. He came into verse 10, the world and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him. To those who believed on his name, he gave the right to become children of God. Children born not out of natural descent. In other words, not out of either Hebrew background or Gentile background. Nor if human decision it was an up to the mother and father, or a husband’s will, that born of God. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Who was that that created? Jesus, the one who created all things were created by Him and all things were created for him. He is the One who created man, this Jesus who came to this earth, and walked on this earth is God, the God of this universe. The one who spoke this world into existence is the one who came to give you and me existence.

Now, folks, I want us to turn back to chapter two in John there for a moment, I want to amplify something that we have also talked about briefly but want to camp on for just a moment before we finish up our lesson today. Verse 23. It ties in to what we were talking about a little earlier. While he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing, and believed on his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them. For he knew all men, he did not need man’s testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man. Folks, this is all a part of the creative will of God. God made the heavens and the earth. And he made the trees and the stars and the sun and the moon. And we look at that and we lift up our hands and say, Oh, glory be to God who made the stars in the universe. And all of this, we’re always looking, there is that is great. And we can go and look at nature. And we can see the magnificence of the ocean and the majesty of the mountains and say, Wow, what a God. But we forget something. He made you. He created you. And he knows you.
