Classic Christianity – Power of Resurrection – Part 1 – 7-14-25
Power of Resurrection – Part 1
~ “And these all, having been commended through the faith, did not receive the promise, God having planned something better for us, so that not apart from us, they should be made perfect.” Hebrews 11:29,40
It is so important that we understand today, that we who are in Christ Jesus have indeed received the promise of the Holy Spirit of God. For when we became born again of the Spirit, the Holy Spirit came and gave us God’s Life immediately upon Faith in Him and what Jesus did on the cross for us. This is the reason the resurrection is so important to understand. The very same Life that raised Jesus from the dead is the same Life that comes to live in us when we too become born of God. We receive the promise.
Now remember, old testament saints did NOT receive the promise prior to their falling asleep. They had to wait their turn till after the cross. Because for them, the cross had not yet happened, and the sins of the world had not been taken away until Jesus, God in the flesh, took away the sins of the world.
…..
And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.
~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12
~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:
Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7
Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”
~ “I’m going to read a passage before we begin here, out of the book of Hebrews, chapter 11, and beginning in verse 39. It’s talking in this passage about the Hall of Fame. These are all of the different people mentioned in the Old Testament who by faith that it was credited to them as righteousness. And we have characters in there such as Abraham, Moses, Joseph and many, many other people included in that list is Rahab, the prostitute. You wonder, how would she get in there? Do you know God is not a respecter of man. God looks at people who, by faith, have been able to walk in a newness of life. And yet, at the end of this, he says, All of these were commended by their faith or for their faith, and yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us, so that only together with us, they would be made complete or made perfect. Now what is the difference then between these Old Testament saints and New Testament saints? Because he said in there that they had not received what we have received. And what is he talking about? The promise. He’s talking about the promised Holy Spirit. He’s talking about the time when God would finish his work at the cross, taking away forever the cause of spiritual death and giving us resurrected life. Now, folks, we cannot overemphasize this, that what we have today that they did not have back then. As much as we read about them, most of the Scripture is Old Testament, but we don’t live in the Old Testament. They did not have what we have today. We were told in the scriptures that to wait in Jerusalem the early apostles, the same is true today, and to be indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God. In other words, to be indwelt by life, that resurrected life of Christ, Jesus, that does something for you and me, that the Old Testament saints did not have the Old Testament. Saints did not have the Holy Spirit of God, the living Christ, living in them. Why? He wasn’t here yet.” ~ Bob George

I’m going to read a passage before we begin here, out of the book of Hebrews, chapter 11, and beginning in verse 39. Why? He wasn’t here yet.
He hadn’t completed his plan yet, but at a point in time, according to God’s will, the Lord Jesus Christ came to this earth and walked on this earth for some 33 years. He walked in total purity and holiness in so doing, he showed you and me our unholiness. Do you get that, guys, that what God had to show us through his life is we don’t have it. The New Testament apostles, until the day of Pentecost did not have life. They had information. They had a relationship with this Jesus, but they had no power to carry it out. Why? If they had not yet been indwelt by the Spirit of God. And apart from that, you’re helpless. You’re sitting in church helpless. You become a church goer, but until you come to understand the Holy Spirit of God, that’s who gave you life, otherwise you’re merely a forgiven lost person. Did you catch what I said? A forgiven lost person. You mean a lost person is forgiven? Absolutely, absolutely they but they have never grabbed a hold of the one. Sin that God said is the only sin I’m looking at, and that is the sin of the rejection of the resurrection of Christ, Jesus, and to live in that newness of life that he called us to.
And so folks, we’re going to talk today about some instances in the scripture where it talks about the power of the Holy Spirit of God. Now we look at power, and you say, well, am I experiencing power? I mean, it did say that the power of the Holy Spirit is going to come upon you. And you have some people who take that and they say, Well, gee, I should be having some power. So we make up what power is, and in some cases, in some arenas, it has been so misused, so confused, that we do not get a hold of what this power is. We use power. There’s power in electricity. You can give a power of attorney to somebody, and what you do is give them the power to carry out your business, to write your checks. That’s power. There’s all kinds of things in life that we experience that have power connected with them. But what is this power? Talked about in the Scripture? How does it manifest itself? How do you know when you got it? Well, first of all, let’s start at the beginning.
If you are born again, and the Scripture tells us that if the Spirit of God does not live in you, you do not belong to Him. So there is no way to be born again of the Spirit, apart from the Spirit of God coming to live in you. Now that annihilates this teaching that is massive, that I am born again today, but I receive the Spirit tomorrow, and let’s pray for the Spirit. Well, you’re praying for what? If you’re in Christ you already have but that is not unusual. We also pray for forgiveness when we already have forgiveness. Some people pray for eternal life when they already have eternal life, and we say That’s faith. That is not faith. It’s presumption. God wants us to walk by faith. As a matter of fact, it says without faith, it’s impossible to please God. So people walk around saying, Oh, I’m so pleasing with God. I just ask Him to forgive me. I want to tell you something, guys, if you’re asking God to do what he’s already done, that is not faith. Thanking him is faith. But not asking him to do what he’s already done is faith. Christ has already taken away the sins of the world when when you were yet enemies. That means lost. What it really means you were born forgiven. Now, why am I hammering on this? Because there’s no power in getting forgiveness. There is a relief. One of the greatest reliefs that you could have if you’ve offended somebody is to hear the words from them, I forgive you, powerful, but it’s not life. Now, when you have reduced salvation to being no more or no less than forgiveness of sin, you have robbed people of the dynamic of life and of power. There’s no power in being forgiven, forgiven. The Old Testament, saints were forgiven through a system, the shedding of blood, a sacrifice of what a bull and goat. If Jesus’ blood is on the same power as that of a bull and goat. We’re to be pitied of all people, but the blood of Jesus did something far greater than the blood of a bull and goat. The bull and goat’s blood covered sin. Jesus took it away. It’s hard for us to grasp. You mean, God isn’t dealing with me and the world on the basis of sin anymore? That’s right. How come he dealt with it already? When did he deal with it? 2000 years ago. How did he deal with it? He went to a cross, and there he who knew no sin became sin for who you and me, so that you and me could become the righteousness of God, where? In him, not in us, in him. What do you mean in Him? In His resurrected life,
folks, that is precisely why the Apostle Paul said, without the resurrection, we are to be pitied of all people and are still in our sins. He didn’t say without the cross. He said without the resurrection, because the resurrection is what completed the work of the Cross. The Cross, in and of itself, is what prepared us for salvation, but salvation is recognizing that Christ was raised from the dead. What’s the meaning of that? We know it occurred, what’s the meaning of he was raised from the dead? Well, Christ entered into our spiritual death with us. The wages of sin is what guys?Death. That’s for you, and that was for Jesus. And when Jesus took upon himself your sin and mine and the sins of the whole world, there hanging on the cross, the righteous, holy God became sin for us. And the wages of sin is what? Death. And so Jesus, Christ, God Himself, entered into our spiritual death with us, so that we can enter into His resurrection with him. He died for us then so that he can live in us now. Do we get it? The power of the Holy Spirit.
Now, let’s take a look at some passages. Matthew 22 do we have that on the screen up there? Yes, we don’t. Matthew 22 let’s just start there. Jesus said this. He said, You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. Two things, you don’t know the Scriptures and you don’t know the power of God. I think both of those many times are true in modern day Christianity, we do not know the Scriptures and we do not know the power of God. And many times we know the Scriptures, but we still don’t know the power of God, because we don’t know what it is. But he says to us at the resurrection, people would either marry or be given in marriage. They will be like the angels in heaven. So there is no marriage in heaven. That’s why they call it heaven. But about the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what God said? He said, I am the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob. He’s not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. And When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.

So there’s power, he says, in the resurrection. Now, guys, what is the power in the resurrection? That is the time when you and I receive the ability to be God’s witness. It’s a time when we are indwelt by what the Old Testament saints were not indwelt with, Life. Christ, Jesus came to live in you and me. This is a reality, folks. Now you tell this to the lost people, or you before you were lost, it sounds like foolishness, but it didn’t say natural man cannot understand foolish or spiritual things. It’s foolish to him, but you, who are spiritual, can understand all things. These are part of the things he wants us to understand that you have been indwelt by something living. Now you physically were already living when you were born again, but when you’re born again, you were born first of all, of your mom and dad’s will. You had nothing to do with that, and you didn’t have anything to do with your spiritual birth. But the Bible says you’ve got to be born again, born first of all, of the water, that means natural birth, and then born again, of the spiritual, of the spirit, that means spiritual birth. And again, guys, I want to reiterate that there is no way in the world for you to be born again apart from the invasion of the life of Christ, Jesus coming to live in you. And so there is no such thing as being born again today and receiving the Spirit tomorrow. Period. I don’t care who teaches you that that is an impossibility in the logic of God’s Word. There’s no way for that to occur. People say, Bob, you don’t understand. I had to. I don’t care how many experiences you had, you’re not saved by experience. You’re not saved by feelings. You’re saved by truth. Truth is what sets you free, not an experience. Well, you don’t understand, Bob, I did something I’d never done before. So have I. Unfortunately.
Guys, there’s too much going on today in this feely, feely, and we got to get these feelings. Folks feelings follow thought. God designed us that way. He designed us in such a way whereby our feelings predictably respond to whatever we are thinking. If I am thinking anxious thoughts, I’m going to be feeling anxiety. If I am thinking angry thoughts, I’m going to be feeling anger. If I am thinking depressive thoughts, I’m going to be depressed. It is not a syndrome, it is not an illness. It isn’t something that you need to get a pill for. It is stinking thinking, and there is no exception to that. When you’re depressed, you’re thinking depressing thoughts, and the only solution to depressive thoughts is to correct them with truth and let truth do what? Set you free from what? Your depression. There any sense of being depressed, you can I can get depressed. I can get down, can’t you. I can think dumb thoughts, can’t you. I can think anxious thoughts, can’t you? And anxiety is always thinking about what’s going to happen where? In the future, that is God’s country up there. We don’t belong there. There’s not a person sitting in this room that knows what’s going to happen to them five minutes from now, except maybe you might go to sleep. We don’t know, the future is God’s country. That’s why he said, forget the past and stay out of the future. Well, Jesus was here they came. Hey, Lord, what’s going to happen in the future. He said, That’s not for you to know. I’m telling you to live one day at a time today. When you’re living up in the future. Oh, this is going to happen. This is going to happen if I’m in sale. Oh, I’m going to get a big sale that’s futuristic stupid thinking you don’t know what you’re going to get. Oh, I’m going in for an operation, and I’m going to be, I’m going to be, you don’t know what you’re going to be. You just better hope that the surgeon knows what he’s doing. You don’t know. And so get out of the future. It’s like on planning. People say, do you plan? No, I plan function, but I don’t plan results. You get in there and say, we’re going to make a million dollars in business, not here, in business, we’re going to make a million dollars. I’m going to budget how much I’m going to make. You don’t have a clue what you’re going to make. How many of you budgeted your retirement a number of weeks ago, and how many are budgeted today? How many of you thought that your retirement was going to go down the tubes five weeks ago? I heard a lady on television sad thing, probably in my age, approximately, that’s old, standing in California in the midst of the rubble of her house. She said, three weeks ago, we lost everything we had on the stock market, and now my house is burnt down. We have nothing. Do you think they knew that weeks ago? But I tell you what God wants us to do in that thing, live one day at a time. That’s why he said, One day at a time. Why? That’s the only time you can live emotionally. My emotions can only respond to what’s going on right now. Are we together, guys? Right now my only time I could my emotions can respond. They can’t respond tomorrow. It’s not here. They can’t respond yesterday. It’s over only right now, but I can cause my emotions to respond by what I’m thinking about yesterday and 10 years ago and 15 years ago. Do you know the people, many times, live in guilt over what they did a long time ago, live in guilt over it, or become very understanding of other people over it, well, I made a mistake. Well, the issue is, guys, whether you’d made a mistake or whether you didn’t make a mistake is not the issue. The issue is, what are you doing back there? What are you doing back there? And there are people who live in the past thinking about all the bad things that happened to them in the past, and how I got abused in the past. Well, how are you going to correct that today? If you got abused in the past, it’s in the past. And God is saying, live one day at a time. Why? Because when I’m thinking about what happened to me 10 years ago, my emotions do not know whether that is happening right now, because of my mind, it’s happening right now. It’s right there, isn’t it? Or whether it happened 10 years ago. Our emotions are dumb. All they can do is respond to whatever you’re thinking. And so I can make myself an emotional basket case today by being preoccupied with what happened yesterday, and my emotions are just doing what God created them to do, responding. Your emotions are responders to whatever you’re thinking. And then if it isn’t bad enough to be preoccupied with what happened yesterday, you go over with what’s going to happen tomorrow. And if all this happened to me, then think all the bad things are going to happen tomorrow. Now we got them compounded, and you wonder why the vast majority of people in this country need Prozac.
Folks, just what do you think a little round pill is going to do to correct your thinking? Do you think that I could be as dumb as a mule and take a pill and be smart? If there was I’d be gobbling up bottles of it. So what can this pill do? The ones that we’re so anxious to go to for thinking stuff, I’m not talking about pills for physical things. I’m talking about emotional brain stuff. Just what pill do you know that can change my thinking or to make me think properly, make me think biblical thoughts? Maybe we need Christian pills.
Do you think there’s anything out there like that guys? Then why do we run to it like dumb sheep? It can numb you. That pill can numb me until I’m said, dang dumb. I don’t know what’s going on, but it cannot change my thinking and as a man thinks, what? So is he. So is he. Guys? We have such a tendency, and we do it all in the name of Christianity. I’m just such a good Christian to run to everything under the sun except to him. I won’t ask for a show of hands, but ask the question, how many of you have ever been depressed? I’ll show my hand. I’ve been depressed. What did I run to? Nothing? Who did I run to? Jesus. Because I knew that if I’m depressed, it’s because I’m thinking depressing thoughts, and I also knew that the only solution to thinking dumb, depressing thoughts is to start thinking truthful thoughts, because I have learned something truth sets you free, and I don’t really want to live in bondage. So I want my dependency to be upon the One who created me. Because if I want to find out something about me, then I’m going to go to who made me. I’m not going to go to another one of you. I’m going to go to who made me.
