Standing Strong in the Lord Part 3

~ Trust in God Alone to Fight The Battles
~ You, little children, are from God and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

~ For those who are in Christ Jesus, we need to learn how to trust in the Holy Spirit at every moment of the day, because satan loves to get us to focus our attention on self instead of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. How does that happen? Well, there is actually a spiritual battle going on all around us, and the enemy uses the physical realm to steer our thoughts and emotions. Fear comes into play a lot of the time. Fear of the unknown, fear of tomorrow, fear of dealing with life, fear of dealing with death, fear of fear. And we so easily add to that fear by turning on the Tell a Vision, to program our minds from the world’s perspective. And if that isn’t enough, we listen to the radio with all its commercials and lies that are sold to us. And then people say, well I don’t listen to the radio, I don’t watch TV, but yet they have their phones and tablets and computers tied to the Internet. And still they have no clue that they are being programmed by satan. And folks, AI is now running the show. It knows what to feed your mind. It knows if you are a liberal or a conservative and feeds your flesh the things that sway you one way or another. If feeds you at every moment of the day, and even listens in to our calls. The point is, you cannot get away from satan’s forces. They are everywhere and being used by everything. So how do you battle that? You don’t but only God can. Sure you can turn off some things, but the battle is not going to stop. Satan will even hit you when you are down, for he never lets up.

The whole armor of God is key. Using the armor of God is how we guard against the devil’s schemes, especially guarding our mind, where the whole battle begins and continues today. Have you not heard the Holy Spirit tell you, to quit watching something? Have you not heard the Holy Spirit say, “Listen to me?” Have you not heard the Holy Spirit say, “Pay attention to the details, especially in the Word of God?” Have you not heard the Holy Spirit say, “I don’t want you doing something?” Have you not heard the Holy Spirit say, “Go comfort that person over there?” Have you not heard the Holy Spirit tell you, “Share Truth with that person?” Have you not heard the Holy Spirit say, “Listen to what someone has to say that is speaking Truth to you.” Have you not heard the Holy Spirit tell you, “You are His child of God and He loves you completely and forever and nothing can separate you from His Love?” Have you not heard the Holy Spirit tell you, “I am with you always, even unto the end of the age?” Have you not heard the Holy Spirit tell you, “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world?”

Folks, the Holy Spirit lives in you if you are in Christ Jesus! Wise up today in the Holy Spirit, and begin listening to what He has to say to you. Put on the full armor of God, and use the sword of the Spirit of God to combat the devils that will surely attack, and he will flee from you. That is a promise from the Word of God.

Ephesians 6:10-20
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed, and with your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints. Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will boldly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it fearlessly, as I should.”

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “Now he goes ahead to say, the sword of the Spirit, as he said last week, that’s the only offensive weaponry in this whole deal. Everything else is defensive, coming from without. Now he says, What do I do? I’m stopping all these errors. But is that all I got? He said, No, no, no, you got a sword, and you use that sword for a purpose. When you give out the truth and poke with the sword, it says that Satan, what’s he do? Flees from you. And so the whole issue of this is that if we don’t know the word of God, and we don’t know how to present that word of God, we can be on the defense all of our lives, but the Word of God is what puts us back on the offense, and that’s where we must rest and stand firm in the truth of the Word of God. Greater is He that’s in you than is in the world. If God is for you, who can be against you. You young people, do not need to be subject to what the world would like you to be. You don’t need to give in to the standard. Make the standard. You are the standard. You have Christ, Jesus in your heart. Stand tall in that. When the world keeps telling you you need to dress like this and you need to do this, you need to do that, tell them, Go talk to somebody else. I have Jesus living in my heart. I’m a child of the living God. I don’t give in to the standard I set the standard.” ~ Bob George

In every other place where that is mentioned. It was always a sign to the unbelieving HEBREW, without exception. That’s why He says there tongues is not for believers, but for unbelievers, it is a sign, he also said, is a known language. It is not a gibberish. It is a known language that, when spoken, can be understood by someone. If Amy got up in his room right now and she started talking to you in Russian, how many of you could say amen to what she’s saying? The issue is what I’d say to her. Why are you talking in Russian? Oh, I got a message from God. Well, then talk in English, because I can’t understand Russian. And if I don’t understand what you’re saying, as Paul says, How am I going to say amen to you? You have no need to speak in Russian because you understand English. Now, if you didn’t understand English and you didn’t know how to speak a word of English, you would have to speak in Russian, because that’s your language, but I still wouldn’t know what you were saying. But if that was true, God would have Dimitri here, who would stand up and interpret what she said. And he says, If that man is not here to interpret what you’re saying, don’t say anything. Talk to God in your spirit, but don’t talk to the group, because we’re not going to know what you’re talking about. And Paul said, I’d rather speak five words in English than I would 1000s in a language that no one understands. And so the whole issue of this thing was for a sign. He told us that it’s a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. And so when Paul went into this setting, he found these believers. He shared the gospel, and the sign from God was given. Yes, these people are believers. Now again, folks, this was a Gentile community. This was a sign the Gentiles have accepted the Lord. Was that a common knowledge? Not necessarily, not necessarily at all. Was it accepted among the HEBREWS? Not at all. Hated the thought of it. That’s why they crucified Him or killed him, ultimately.

Now let’s go on. Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months arguing persuasively about the Kingdom of God, but some of them became obstinate. They refused to believe and publicly maligned The Way. Now The Way was what they called the followers of Christ. When Jesus said, “I am The Way,” they named themselves the way. So Paul left them. He took his disciples with them and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Taranis. This went on for two years. So it was about two and a half years that he was there in Ephesus, so that all the HEBREWS and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the Word of God. God did extraordinarily miracles through Paul. Now again, why do you suppose God was doing miracles through Paul? So he could get on television? Why do you suppose he was doing them? What did a miracle do? It proved that this man was of God and therefore listened to what he’s saying. There’s only one reason for a miracle, and that was to verify the Word of God. Now I guess this is where they get the hankies, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured, and their evil spirits left them. Some HEBREWS who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus Christ over those who were demon possessed, they would say, in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches. I don’t know who he is, but Paul seems to. I command you to come out. Seven sons of skiva, a Hebrew chief priest were doing this. So this was a Hebrew chief priest, obviously an unbeliever. One day the evil spirit answered them. Here’s what he said, Jesus, I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you? Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them, jumped on this, this priest, and overpowered them all, and he gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. That ought to get your attention. Now, when this became known to the HEBREWS and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held high in honor. Now, many of those who believed now came and openly confess their evil deeds, a number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. Now, when they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to 50,000 drachmas. It’s about $10,000 in our money. And in this way, the word of God spread widely and grew in power.

Now, after all of this had happened, Paul decided to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaea. After I’ve been there, he said, I must visit Rome also. He sent two of his helpers, and he talks about Timothy and Erasmus to Macedonia while he stayed in the providence of Asia a little longer. Now, he didn’t get away quick enough, and it goes ahead to say about that time there arose a great disturbance about the way a silversmith made Demetrius. Now that’s not our Demetrius comes here who made silver shrines of Artemis brought in no little business for the craftsmen. He called them together, along with the workmen in related trades, and said, Men, you know, we receive a good income from this business. What an amazing how important income is. And you see and hear how this fellow, Paul, has convinced to lead astray large numbers of the people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia, he says that man made gods are no gods at all. And there’s a danger, not only that our trade will lose its good name. We have a good name selling these statues of Artemis, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited, God forbid, and the goddess herself. Now they goddess themselves. They believed in this goddess, who is worshiped throughout the province of Asia and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty. So they got this idol, this woman, idol, prayed she’s going to be robbed of her divine majesty, these little statues of her. And they come along and say, if we let this man continue, we’re gonna have to quit making our statues. We’ll lose our money. Now, when they heard this, they were furious, and they began shouting great Artemis of the Ephesians. Soon, the whole city was in an uproar. The people seized Gauss and Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia and rushed as one man into the theater. Now, folks, that is a amphitheater, and that part in Ephesus that seats over 24,000 people. Huge amphitheater. Paul wanted to appear before the crowd, but the disciples would not let him. Even some of the official, officials of the Providence, friends of Paul, sent him a message begging him not to venture into that theater. The assembly was in confusion. Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there. Isn’t that the way it is. What are you doing here? I don’t know, but I’m shouting the Judaeans pushed Alexander to the front, and some of the crowd shouted instructions to him. He motioned for silence in order to make defense, defense before the people. But when they realized he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison for about two hours, great is Artemis of the Ephesians. The city clerk quieted the crowd and said, Men of Ephesus, doesn’t all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven. Here’s this 30 foot statue that fell from heaven, didn’t break, did nothing. Therefore, since these facts, listen to this are undeniable. Can you believe that these facts are undeniable? Folks, that thing dropped right from the clouds. You ought to be quiet and not do anything rash. You have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed the temples nor blasphemed or got us, if then Demetrius and his fellow craftsmans have a grievance against anybody, the courts are open, and there are pro councils smart man, and they can press charges if there’s anything further you want to bring up, it must be settled in a legal assembly. As it is, we are in danger of being charged with rioting because of today’s events. In that case, we would not be able to account for the commotion, since there’s no reason for it. And after he had said this, he dismissed the assembly. Now folks, it was after that occurrence that Paul then went into back to Jerusalem, into his arrest.

Now we set the stage on all of this to see that, as Paul, therefore in Rome, writes back to the church of Ephesus, you can see why his warnings were there, can’t you? And so the one thing that Paul wants us to understand there’s among many, but the one thing that he wants you to understand is that we need to stand strong in the Lord. That is true today, in the midst of persecution, in the midst of anything that the schemes take place, we have to learn to stand strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. And therefore, as we talked about last week, there’s an armor that he said that we need to put on. Now here again, is the reason for the armor is because our enemy is not flesh and blood. It’s the devil’s schemes that speak to your flesh. Your flesh indwelling sin in our flesh is nothing but a receptor to the information coming in from Satan. Our Spirit is God living in you, putting information into our heads and God, or excuse me, Satan, through our flesh, is putting information into our head. So we got two things going into this head of ours. And there’s the conflict. The conflict is right here, folks, the conflict of everything is right here.

Bob Davis gave me an article about this famous psychiatrist that has finally come to the conclusion that everything’s in our thinking, and how that for people that have, you know, all of these things that we put on them, and these names we put on them, that therapy or talking to somebody is the most effective way to get through these problems, but that takes time, and it’s expensive, so what we’ve done is substitute pills, but in a final analysis, as he said, that the problem with man is in his thinking. And you say, my goodness, how unusual to come up with that. These guys would read the Bible. They could have saved themselves a lot of research, because it says, As a man thinks so is he so our battlefield, folks, is right up here, right up here. It’s right between the ears. That’s the Armageddon. Now, there’s an Armageddon over in Israel, but my Armageddon is right here, and so is yours. And so we’re standing up against the devil’s schemes. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but there are rulers and there are authorities and powers in this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evils in the heavenly realms. Now, folks, not a one of us know precisely what that is, do we? About the best that we can do with that is say there is demonic influence in this world and this world that Jesus came, He said, I’ve got a kingdom different than this kingdom. This is the kingdom of the world that is totally inputted by Satan and these and all of this right here, this kingdom that you and I live in, in the physical realm. This is who is the influence of it. My kingdom is totally different than this, and my kingdom is totally influenced by God. And you’ve got a choice as to whether to listen to Him or whether to listen to the kingdom that you live in, the world that you’re in, but not of, and you’ve got a choice which one you’re going to listen to, because the voices are coming from both ends.

And folks, that’s why Christ had compassion on us, is because he understands the struggle, and he understands how difficult it is to try to fight a spiritual warfare with worldly means. But if we don’t know that we’ve got spiritual warfare and spiritual defense mechanisms, we’re out there on a limb trying to fight this thing the best way we know how, and we’ll always get defeated through it, every temptation, every sin, every mistake you’ve ever made in your life has been instigated by the enemy of your soul. Do you understand that you thought you dreamed it up, but you didn’t dream it up. Do you think that you think that Adolf Hitler and World War Two where you were there and you were there. Do you think he thought that stuff up on his own? No way. Who thought that up? The devil, the rulers against the authorities and the powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil and heavenly realms. They thought that up, and they put that into the mind of a man, and he became an instrument, just like Judas was when it said Satan entered into him. And we have to realize, folks that we’re in spiritual warfare, and that warfare is ripe for our minds. It’s the war of our minds. And we have to quit sitting there beating ourselves to death, and to realize, hold on a minute, I’ve been listening to the wrong voice, and that’s why Paul is warning us, it’s out there, guys, you live in a city of Ephesus that’s full it’s obvious that that warfare is there. Now here’s how you handle that. You can’t fight that with flesh and blood. You can’t fight that with natural means. Here’s the only thing you can do, and also you can’t stop this from coming at you. How many of us have said, why doesn’t he let up? Why is it many times when you are in your weakest point of life is when Satan sits down and kicks you in the worst. Your mind, my mind sometimes said, Go. You think like he had let up a little bit as weak as I am. Oh no, man, that’s when I get after you. It’s ruthless and it’s full of vengeance, and with one thing, a thief comes to steal and what? Kill and what? Destroy. Guess what the guess what the plan of this group is up here to kill, to steal and to destroy you. Is that scary. It’s scary if you don’t know how to defend against it. Now you need to understand something, and that is that you need to stand firm in the Lord and to realize He’s my fighter. And then when I’m standing there, stand firm in that don’t just stand there waiting on somebody to knock you over. Stand firm in it and put some armor on. That’s how you stand firm. You know, if I was in battle, I could stand out saying, I’m standing in the Lord. My general would say, you better stand firm and get some armor on.

nd so he says, Stand firm, put that belt of truth around you. Truth is I got an enemy out there. Truth is greater is He that is in me than is in the world. So I don’t need to live in fear, but I do need to be as wise as a serpent and gentle as a dove. I do need to realize the combat is out there, but I don’t have to live in fear over it. Satan wants to get you in fear. Why? Because if I can get you fearful of this truth, I’ll keep you away from the love of God, because you’ll be preoccupied with what could happen to me instead of the love of God, that will prohibit it if we allow Him. So put this belt of truth around you, buckled around your waist, every piece of armament, armament fall hangs on that belt. Buckle around your waist. Put that breast plate of righteousness. We talked about that last week. In other words, I stand clothed in the righteousness of Jesus. I don’t stand in my righteousness. I don’t have an ounce of it. I never have had an ounce of righteousness. Neither of you. We were born unrighteous, and the only righteousness that we have is his. That’s why we’re clothed than his. He’s my righteousness. So don’t let Satan’s voice come in there and say, Oh, you ought to be more righteous than that. You ought to do some more to get more righteous. I couldn’t get more righteous if I wanted to, because my righteousness never has been mine. It’s his. So I’m not standing in mine. I don’t have any so I don’t have to sit around all puffed up as to how righteous I am, but how unrighteous you are, because all of our righteousness comes from Him.

Now, he said to put on with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In other words, I am ready to counteract these voices with truth of the gospel. In addition, take up this shield of faith, now that’s to extinguish the flaming errors of the evil one that shows us that our problem is coming from without end. Are we together? I don’t need weaponry unless there’s something from the outside trying to hit me, and that’s all of these forces out there of evil, and that’s why it says to go ahead and put this helmet of salvation on. In other words, guard your head, guard your head, guard your heart with His righteousness, guard your head and don’t let those thoughts penetrate you, because when you do, you’re going to get knocked out.

My dad told me that long before I was ever a Christian. Bob, you don’t give in. You said it. And folks, that’s to me, what this whole thing is talking about. Is the battle out there? Sure is. Is it able to be handled? Yes, it is.

Now he says to pray in the Spirit on all occasions with prayers and requests, and again, if I’m going to be praying in the Spirit, that means to be controlled by the Spirit, which means to be controlled by the love of God. So when you’re talking about praying in the Spirit, pray in love, pray from a heart of love. To people like Paul says, Pray intelligent prayers. I would pray. I just talked this week to Major Thomas, and Major Thomas has just announced his retirement from the head of Cape and re ministry. And there was a case where, because of his age, and I know he man anymore, they just kind of drag him in, prop him up. He just stands there and talks. But brilliant mind respect him unbelievably. And I just called him tell him how much I love him, and to say, if there’s any man that I know that has spent his entire life doing nothing but boldly proclaiming Jesus, he’s it. And my desire is that my prayers for him, because he told me that he was retiring, he was heading to Malaysia and to New Guinea. And I said, Well, I can tell that you’re really slowing down, but your prayer for him is this, and I hope it’s your prayer for me that whenever I open my mouth, the words may be given to me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I’m an ambassador in chains and folks, that is where Paul he said, If you want to pray, that’s what you pray for. Pray that you have the boldness and the courage to stand strong in the Lord, to put on this armor against this evil one. Realize it’s out there. Quit kidding ourselves. Don’t live in denial of it. It’s there. And if we do not put that armor on and use the word of God against it, we’ll get defeated by it. But do not ever consider it unusual for you, for people of God, for people like Paul to be the recipients of the schemes and the plans of Satan. It’s a part of life. Well, let’s pray together.

Father, we thank You for this marvelous book that was written to us. By a man whose life we could never emulate, we just step back and admire, apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, there was never a man on the face of this earth that influenced the world for good like the apostle Paul. He went through shipwrecked, danger, sword, trials, tribulation, nakedness, and every one of these things just got right back up and proclaimed boldly the good news of the gospel. So Father, we thank you for the examples that have been set through these generations, and we pray that as we continue, that will look at life more seriously than we do. We live in such a fluid we live with so many distractions that so many times we just fail to realize that there’s a battle going on, and it’s a battle for our very souls and to protect ourselves by girding ourselves with truth, shielding ourselves with your righteousness and with your faith, and being able to know and to proclaim the Word of God to stop the attacks that are upon us continually. We thank you for these things in Jesus name and for his sake. Amen.
