Power of Resurrection – Part 3

~ “For whoever shall keep the whole Law, but shall stumble in one point, he has become guilty of all.” James 2:10

There’s a huge problem going on in the church today, and that is believing that people can keep the law of God. You kind of have to laugh at people that believe this, because they haven’t a clue that the law also required obedience to the sacrificial system and doing all the purification for sins before the cross. And the sacrificial system was done away with a long time ago, when Jesus went to the cross, was raised from the dead, and the temple was destroyed in 70 AD, just as Jesus said it would be. So people telling others that you have to obey the law of God, will have a very difficult time even telling you what the law of God is. They think it is simply the 10 commandments, even though no one obeys those. They just think they do. They are hypocrites, great pretenders, liars, deceived by Satan into thinking they are law keepers. Yet scripture is crystal clear, whoever breaks even one small part of the law is guilty of breaking the entire law of God. And we are ALL guilty of that.

So there is another righteousness revealed by God. And that righteousness comes by faith in Jesus Himself. Not our own self righteousness, because none of us have any righteousness apart from Jesus living in us.

Romans 3:22
“And the righteousness of God is through faith from Jesus Christ toward all those believing. For there is no distinction,”

Romans 1:17
For the gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Don’t let anyone try and convince you that you can be an old testament law keeper. Because it has been done away with by Jesus, God in flesh himself. Don’t let Satan deceive you and try and place you on a guilt trip. Don’t listen to anyone who bashes the apostle Paul either. Because these people are double minded, unstable in all ways. They haven’t a clue what salvation is. They sound all good on the outside, but on the inside they are nothing more than dead people walking.

~ “Now there’s also a power in sin. There’s a power in God, and there’s a power in sin. You know what the Bible says, the power of sin is? The law. The law. All you have to do to get a child to want to do something to say, Don’t do it. It’s all you have to do. Don’t do it. My dad said to me, don’t drive the car. Guess what I did? Wreck the car. All you have to do to get someone to want to do something, to say, Don’t do it. The power of sin is in the law. So you got two powers we’re dealing with. You’re dealing with the power of sin. Now, how do you get out from under the power of sin? To get out from under the law? In our legalistic churches, we sit there and beat each other every Sunday with the law, keeping them under the power of sin, and then beat them to death for sinning. And say, You all come back next week now so I can beat up on you again. The power of sin is the law. God knew that. He left those people in the Old Testament under the power of sin until such time that their dumb heads grasp that maybe they just can’t do it. Now, He said, Now you’re ready for what I came to do, and that’s to go to the cross, to take away your sins forever and to bring life to you, to do something for you that I could not do for the Old Testament saints, until God’s plan had been fulfilled, for me to do it. And so my friends, if you want to go free from the power of sin, get out from under the law and to recognize that God living in you now is there to do something far greater than the law. The law tells you what not to do, and the grace of God, who lives in you tells you what to do, tells you to love one another. You know what he says about love? It’s the fulfillment of the law. So quit trying to fulfill the law. You can’t fulfill it and love one another and you’ll be fulfilling the law. The only thing that counts, Jesus said, is faith expressing itself through love. You want to walk by faith. Walk by faith in the power that God gives you to love one another.” ~ Bob George

He is my Creator. He’s the one who ultimately created us. He created us this way. He created us in this way that our emotions are going to respond to what we’re thinking. Are we together? Now, folks, when we are indwelt by the Spirit of God, we have another life living in us, we’re told that we have the mind of Christ. Do you know that passage that we have been given the mind of Christ? Now, if that isn’t good news, something’s wrong with you, because that means that I do not have to depend upon my mind, but I can depend upon his mind. Now, if I’m going to depend upon his mind, what am I going to be depending on him to do? To do, what? Teach me what? Truth. Why do I need taught truth? Because Jesus said we’re like sheep. You can’t find a dumber animal. Now some people, oh, I don’t like that. I don’t care whether you like it or not. God called you a sheep. Could have said a dumb sheep, because left to our own, we are dumb. We have no wisdom. We have intellect, but we have no wisdom, apart from Christ, none. God gave you a Spirit of discernment and of wisdom, wisdom.

So this power that he’s talking about His resurrection power. You say, Well, I’ve never experienced it. Well, then you’ve never drawn upon it. And if you have experienced it, I’m not sure we can describe it, but we do know that if you are born again, that God has given you something that enables you to do what someone else cannot do. Have you ever noticed a little thing like this when you’re lost, you can talk about God all day long, can’t you? You know what? Me talking about God doesn’t bother you at all. Or the big boy upstairs, or I like the good Lord. You hear that the good Lord, but mention the name Jesus, and you’ll gag on that name. How many of you have seen that? I’ve seen that you can’t get it out. Oh, and curse it, but I’m talking about talking about Jesus, talking about God all day long, but not this person, Jesus. Now, when you’re able to talk openly, not about the Big Boy upstairs, or the good Lord, but Jesus, something’s happened inside of you, because you can’t talk that way on a regular basis unless the Spirit of God gives you the power to do so. So that’s why he said that you’re going to be power to be my witnesses. Look at Acts one. They met together. They asked him, Lord, is this the time you’re going to restore the kingdom of Israel? Again, the HEBREWS were looking for Israel to be restored from the bondage of Italy. And he said, it’s not for you to know the times or the dates the Father has set by his own authority. They said it’s not for you to know. Now you’re talking about future, not for you to know. But he said, you’ll receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and when that Holy Spirit comes to indwell you, you will receive power to be my what? Witness.

Now again, what are you going to be a witness of? Turn to Acts four. Look at Acts four. Just look on the screen, if you want to. All believers were of one heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions were his own, but they shared everything they had and with great power, the apostles continued to testify to what guys? The resurrection of the Lord Jesus and much grace was upon them. You’re going to have power to not be ashamed, to be a witness to the resurrection. What’s the importance of the resurrection? It’s what gives you power to live your life. It’s what gives you a power to communicate the good news to others. It’s what takes away fear, to communicate this good news to others. My friends, God has left us here on this earth for one purpose and one purpose only, and that is to communicate the gospel. And the gospel, the focus of the gospel is on the resurrection.

But you can’t do that until you’ve been raised from the dead, if you’re sitting in the sound of my voice and have never been raised and never been born again, it’s time to be born again, because today is the day of salvation. People say, Well, I. Don’t need the Lord. Yes, you do. Because anybody who is not in Christ, Jesus, folks, there is an emptiness inside of you. We’re right or wrong? You remember that to those of you who are born again, you remember the emptiness that is there. You might have money, you might have position, but there’s an emptiness. Something is missing. You remember that? Has it been too long to remember that the emptiness that’s there? And do you know why you feel like there’s something missing? Because there’s something missing. And do you know what’s missing? Wife, resurrected wife, the resurrected life of Christ, Jesus coming and taking up residence in your life to a degree. Sounds a little like Hocus Pocus, but how are you going to explain what happened to you when you were born again? How am I going to explain that one day you’re heading in one direction, and the next day you’re heading in another direction. That doesn’t mean there’s not fall backs along the way. It means you’re a new creature.

Before I was saved, I never had the Bible open. When I was saved and opened the Bible, it cracked. I never had it open. Had no need to have it open. We didn’t carry it in the church I went to, didn’t see anybody else that carried a Bible when I after, I saved and went to church with people carrying their Bible, I thought, this is strange, people carrying their Bible with them. I’ve never seen that before. The church I went to, the denomination I was in, they didn’t care about the Bible. And I want to tell you something, folks that is a large majority of what’s represented today in Christianity are people just like that. They don’t know the Scriptures and they don’t know the power of God. And so to me, the change was to a person that had no interest in the Scripture, didn’t know I was supposed to one day and the next day, I couldn’t get enough of this scripture, because became the most fascinating book in the world. And I wonder, with people, if you’ve been born again, why isn’t this book interesting to you?

We’d rather read books on positive thinking. You know what my favorite book was before coming to Christ? Think and Grow Rich. Think and Grow Rich. It’s got some principles in there. Incidentally, that work for business doesn’t have anything to do with your with your life. After I became a Christian, that book went in the trash. Why? Because it’s trash, humanistic thinking trash. And I came to know truth. This book will tell you what truth is.

Now let’s go on to the power of God for salvation. Look at Romans. One Paul says, I’m not ashamed of the gospel. Now look at this, guys. I’m not ashamed of the gospel because it, the Gospel is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes. So we want to know, well, what is this power of God? The gospel, the gospel, like I said, He’s called us here for one reason to get out the gospel. Why? Because people are lost, and he wants people to be saved, and he wants us to have an interest in seeing that people are saved. And so he says, I’ve given you the power of the gospel. Do you know guys that every time you get up and proclaim the gospel, you’re proclaiming the power of God. You know why? Because God’s Word does not return void. That’s power. That’s power.

Amy has a lot of Jewish friends, and most, most of them are, they think atheist. There is no such thing as an atheist, in my opinion, their agnostic. But Amy will sometimes just say something. She was with a lady one time she’s in a back seat, and she quoted the scripture that what profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul, you know what her response was? What’d you say again? Where’d you say again? Could you repeat that? I want to write that down. She didn’t know scripture, but I want to tell you something, guys, that word didn’t return void.

We’ve got something in our hand called the gospel that God says you don’t need to depend upon your good presentation. You don’t need to depend upon your total knowledge. You don’t have to go to cemetery for 19 years if you’re born again, you’re indwelt with the power of God. That’s a lot better than an education, guys. And if you are indwelt by the power of God, then the power is in the Gospel. That means whenever I give the gospel to somebody, God’s power is working in their lives, whether they accept it or not, it’s not the issue. A seed has been sown. Every time you give out truth, guys, a seed has been sown in that person’s heart. Do you understand that? It doesn’t return void. So don’t be afraid to say anything, and don’t be afraid of rejection. I’ll guarantee you’re going to get rejection. Why? Because they don’t understand what you’re saying. It sounds foolish to them. That’s okay. That’s okay. The power of God is in this gospel. So he said, I’m not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power it the Gospel is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes first the HEBREW, don’t have to be afraid of the HEBREW or the Gentile.

For he says, in this gospel, in this gospel, a righteousness from God is revealed. Now until God has revealed to you what righteousness is, then we’ve come up with our own idea, haven’t we, and that’s what’s called religion. And so we look at righteousness as what I am doing and I carry my Bible. And we have some people that when they carry it, they open it very carefully. Have you ever seen that? Some people, they say that Bible is holy, don’t you write in it, I go to church. I’m righteous. I give I’m righteous. I intentionally mentioned the good old Lord, I’m righteous. You see, guys, we can come up with all kinds of ideas what righteousness is if we don’t go to God to find out what it is. It says, For in the Gospel, a righteousness from God is revealed, revealed, remember that, that unless the Spirit of God reveals the meaning of something, you don’t know what it means? So this righteousness that comes from God has to be revealed to us, and God says that the only righteousness that I’m interested in is the righteousness that comes from me and there in this gospel, therefore a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith, from first to last, nothing in between guys. It starts by faith, it ends by faith, and it’s sustained by faith. Now again, if that is true, that what God is looking for us is faith from the beginning to the end, then the issue is, what does he want us to have our faith in? And who does he want us to have our faith in? It’s in Christ. It’s not in Buddha, not in Mohammed, not in the Pope, not in Martin Luther, not in Billy Graham, not in any of us. The object of our faith is in One Man, and that’s Christ, Jesus. Why? Because in God’s mind and in God’s economy, everything that he wanted the world to know about himself has been revealed in Christ, Jesus. So I have people walk around they say, I’m a prophet. No, you’re not. No, you’re not. What do you need a prophet for? When you got the Bible, what are you going to do? Prophesy something that’s not in the Bible? What are you going to do? Come up and say, God told me to read the Bible, and so did God tell you to read the Bible. You don’t need me. But there are people like that, and they walk around with this self proclaimed assignment of some kind that God has given them. There aren’t any prophets today. There aren’t any apostles today. There’s pastor teachers and there’s evangelists. What’s the path? What’s the evangelist supposed to do? Tell you about Jesus so you get saved. What’s the role of the pastor, teacher to grow you in the Lord? What else do you need, besides that? You’ve been given everything you need for life and godliness, haven’t you? So guys, this gospel reveals a righteousness that is by faith from first to last. The whole thing is to walk by faith.

Now again before we close, it is not faith for me to be asking for what I already have. What that means is I don’t know I have it. Could you be born again and never learn or never grow and keep asking God to give you eternal life? Yeah, you could. How come? You don’t know you got it. Do you have the capability of knowing that you have it? Living in you. Of course, you got truth living in you. It’s just not been revealed yet. If you came to Christ and were left on that table and you never grew, you’re born, but you never grow. There are Christians like that. They come to Christ, and they never grow spiritually. They’re 20 years in the Lord, and they don’t know any more than they do the day they were born again. They’re born again. Talks about in the Scripture, they’re going to get in by the skin of their teeth, but they don’t know anything. They’ve never grown. And so guys, if you are in Christ, you’re supposed to be a grower. You’re supposed to be growing in grace and growing in your knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. And the more knowledge that you grow in him, the more knowledge you have to share with someone else without fear, because God doesn’t give you a spirit of fear.

Two more things, this power gives you the power over death. O death, where is your victory and O death, where is your sting? We don’t have to fear death as a born again believer. Do you realize there’s power in that, guys, do you realize that when you understand that, when you close your eyes for the last time, that you’re going to be absent from the body present with the Lord, do you understand the power that God gives you to live? Do you understand that? If you’ve come close to death, you’ll understand it. But the issue is, it gives you power to live, because there’s no fear of death, because when you and I die, it doesn’t even say we die. It says we go to sleep and we wake up in the arms of Jesus. Now that’s what enables us to live here on this earth without fear, doesn’t it? Fear of death. So the power of God living in you. You don’t know that as a lost person, and folks, if you haven’t been steeped in a Bible. You can sit there, well, I’m not sure. I’m not sure. Listen, that is ridiculous for a Christian to be sitting there saying I’m not sure. This book does not give you information to make you unsure of anything. It’s there to give you assurance. It says to walk boldly into the throne of grace, calling him Abba, Father, Daddy, Father. That’s assurance, having, what’s it say, full assurance of your faith, full assurance. So I know what’s going to happen to me when I die. That enables me to live very freely.

Father, we want to thank you for the immeasurable gifts that you have given to us in Christ, Jesus, the gift of the Holy Spirit of God, alive, living in us. That’s our only hope. Hope of glory, freeing us from fear, from the fear of death, freeing us from the fear of life, teaching us to forget the past and to press on to the high calling of Christ, Jesus, to leave the past where it belongs and quit digging it up for yourself and for others, because it can do nothing more than cause havoc in a person’s life. We have enough to many times hang our head on, just by daily living without a continuing reminder of our failures of the past. And Father, we do not belong up in the future. That’s your country. One thing we do know is you’ve won, and the other thing we know is we have too. So, Father, I pray that as we leave here today, we leave with a new freshness in her step and a real awareness in our minds and hearts that you have given us everything that we need for life and godliness, and it’s your blessed name that we pray. Amen.
