Jesus is the Solution Not Pharma

On today’s program Bob answered many of the same questions a number of years ago that are still repeatedly asked today. Tithing is one of them. First off, tithing was old testament law to support the Levitical priesthood. Listen as Bob speaks with the first caller, John from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in regards to tithing. John brought some additional insights into that too, and even shared with his pastor about tithing being of the old covenant, old testament, not the new. Hebrews 7 and 12 speak of a change in the law.

Hebrews 7:12
¹² For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also.

The second caller, Tommy called from Nashville, Tennessee. He had a question into being given prescription drugs for chemical imbalances of the brain. Listen in as Bob and Tommy discuss this issue. We would do well to pay particular attention to scripture on this area, especially in the book of Revelation on this one for today, where the Greek word pharmekeia is used, which by the way, is where we get the word “pharmacy” and “pharma” (drug companies) from. We’ve been deceived into thinking pharma is the solution to every problem.

Revelation 18:23
²³ And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries [pharmakeia] were all nations deceived.

The third caller, Andrew called from Fayetteville, North Carolina. He had a question in regards to working in homeless shelters and dealing with people who are Christians, but they are under law. Bob points out that people who are under law, trying to obey law, and he wonders if they really are saved. It really comes down to the law and Grace issue. A man is not justified by observing the law, but by believing what they heard in regards to Jesus Christ.

Galatians 2:16
¹⁶ know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.

The fourth caller was Frank from San Francisco, California. Frank had a question in regards to the baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. Bob explains that when the Holy Spirit comes into your life, He takes up residence in you. You have been baptized by the Holy Spirit at that moment of new birth. We have been placed into the body of Christ. John the baptizer spoke of this event.

Mark 1:8
⁸ I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Now in regards to speaking in tongues, tongues was a known language. It was not some babbling. It was used as a means of communicating the gospel to other people, who spoke other languages, and the Holy Spirit was having them speak in a known language that the hearer could understand. What is going on today is simply babbling.
