Remember the Cross ~ Your Sins Are Forgiven Forever!

~ “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.” ^{2 Peter 1:5-9}

“I believe when when Christ is talking about picking up the cross, and following Him the cross was the instrument by which Jesus Christ took away the sins of the world. A fact that most people say they believe out on one side of their mouth, and then deny by their actions and their verbiage out of the other side of their mouth. When you’re talking about taking up your cross that is, to me that is meaning that I am a forgiving person. That’s what he did at the cross was, forgave the sins of the entire world. And so he did that at the cross. And then he’s telling me to pick up the cross. In other words, put make that applicable to your life, what I did there is applicable to you today. So don’t ever forget the cross. It’s like in 2nd Peter where it says that, that if these items of maturity are not yours, it’s because you’re blind indeed, and have forgotten that you have been cleansed of all of your past sins. Very important passage in Peter, because what has happened to us, is he saying how we should add to our faith, all of these different areas of maturity. And if these are not yours, in increasing measure, you are blind indeed, and have forgotten that you’ve been cleansed of all of your past sins. Now, how were you cleansed? Through the cross. And so Jesus at the cross is who took away my sins, I need to pick up my cross daily and be reminded of that truth, not to be gaining forgiveness already have forgiveness, but to walk as a forgiving person. So again, I think what what Paul is talking about here in Philippians, it was a desire of his heart, he isn’t gonna go pull that off, he didn’t gonna go out and look for suffering. In order to become like him and he’s dead then gonna go out and look that try to get somebody hanging on a cross. He’s just saying that I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing any sufferings. I know many people today, Billy, that I know my brother in law, who Amy’s sister’s husband, who died very young of cancer was was a relatively new Christian. But boy, when he came to the Lord, he loved Jesus. And when he was going through all of the suffering that he was going through through with the cancer that he had. His deal was that I feel honored to be sharing in the sufferings of Christ Jesus. In other words, as he suffered, I’m suffering. And through this suffering, I’m growing closer to God.”
