We Are Called to be Ministers of a New Covenant!

~ “And He has qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” ^{2 Corinthians 3:6}

Bob George answers the question in regards to tithing today.

“Here again, this is putting God in the box of being a responder instead of an initiator. It’s saying, if you do this, God will do that, that puts God in a position of being a responder and I’m being the initiator. And that puts me in a position of being greater than God. Very simple. If I’m the initiator, and God’s the responder, I’m greater than God, I can cause God to do what I want him to do. And so if you think if you do this, God will respond, then I’m greater than God. And so that is that is utter nonsense. The reason you don’t need to get your theology straight in regard to tithing, you need to get your theology straight in regard to New Testament giving. And again, what is the results of this? Why would someone be preaching it unless they thought they could benefit from it? Quite frankly, I don’t think people care at all about what kind of benefit you’re getting. What their thinking is, is what kind of benefit am I going to get from this? If people would just learn to trust Jesus with people and to realize Christ lives in your congregation if they know that if you’re teaching the New Covenant, we’re called to be ministers have a New Covenant, not of an Old Covenant, but a New Covenant. If you’re preaching New Covenant theology, and people get a hold of the fact that Jesus lives in me, and Jesus is alive in me, and Christ is molding my heart teaching me truth, then are you going to not be giving? Of course you’re going to be giving, you’re going to be giving quite frankly a lot more generously, then you are under a law of tithing. But people are afraid to do that. They’re afraid if I pull off, they’re not doing that because somebody out there is getting blessed is doing it because brother, I’m getting blessed. And that’s a part of legalism. And that’s a part of legalism. You know, it just is so, to me, I wish we would just trust Jesus for a week or two. Just trust him for a week or two say guys, give according to what God’s put on your heart to give, give joyfully, give freely. Give without compulsion. See what happens.”
