Our Faith is in Him and His Righteousness, Not Our Own Self Righteousness

~ “Therefore let us stop judging one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.” Romans 14:13

– Build up one another in love. Don’t put a stumbling block in your brother’s face. Don’t flaunt you freedom in Christ Jesus. And don’t condemn others either, by what others eat or drink. And there are those that do indeed get into a tizzy by what others eat or drink today. And since the days of the Apostle Paul, there is nothing new under the sun. People are still judging based on what a person eats and drinks, as though that is a salvation issue.

Romans 14:14-23

I am convinced and fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean. 15 If your brother is distressed by what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother, for whom Christ died. 16 Do not allow what you consider good, then, to be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. 19 So then, let us pursue what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to let his eating be a stumbling block. 21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything to cause your brother to stumble. 22 Keep your belief about such matters between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23 But the one who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that is not from faith is sin.

Bob George addressed callers’ questions on Romans 14:12, emphasizing that it’s about personal accountability to God, not judging others. He explained the context of Hebrew and Gentile dietary laws and stressed the importance of not judging others’ dietary choices. Larry asked about dealing with bad thoughts, to which Bob advised focusing on Jesus and not dwelling on sinful thoughts. Greg thanked Bob for his impact and asked about going directly to the Father, with Bob clarifying that the focus should be on Christ. Ruth sought guidance on discerning the Holy Spirit’s lead, and Bob advised walking in truth found in the Scriptures. Todd, struggling with mental health issues, accepted Christ after Bob’s guidance.

“Unless you want to talk about giving an account as it relates to what people are eating. If you’ve been judging what people are eating and drinking and everything else, then he’d say, Cut doing it. You’re, you know, you’re not. You’re not going to give an account for me. You’re not quit judging me. You’re going to give an account for your own self. Our works will be judged. Larry in regard to those things that we have allowed Christ, Jesus to do in and through us, and we will be rewarded. What those are? We don’t know. How are you going to know what a heavenly Ward is when you don’t even know what heaven looks like? So we have no idea what those things are. But what Paul, Paul does say is to finish the race. Don’t get discouraged and beat yourself up, but finish the race. Keep walking by faith in the fact that what Christ Jesus accomplished for you, and is daily accomplishing for you. On your behalf. You have nothing to do with it except to say thank you and to get your eyes off yourself and what you’re doing and what you are not doing, or what you have done, or what you think you’re going to do. Get your eyes off of that stuff and keep it on the faithfulness of Christ, Jesus, who loved you so much that He gave His own life to take away your sins. That’s what you need to camp your mind on. ~ Bob George
