The Law Was Given to Lead us to Christ Jesus
~ The reason we have an old testament and a now the New Testament, is because God needed the New Agreement, New testament, New Will, New Covenant is because God found fault with the people in that they could not live under the old Covenant and a New Covenant was needed to bring LIFE to a person. No one was alive as God intended Man to be in the old Covenant. They were dead without the Spirit of God living in them. That is key to understanding both the old covenant and the New Covenant, is that people were NOT indwelt by the Holy Spirit by default. In the Old Testament we see instances where the Holy Spirit would come upon a person temporarily, but then would leave that person as they were prior to having the Holy Spirit coming up on them for some particular service. In the New Covenant, when the day of Pentecost arrived, the Holy Spirit came not only on people, but indwelt people, to give them Life in Christ Jesus at that very moment in time. And if you who are reading this, and have the Holy Spirit living in you, you had your own day of Pentecost, where the Spirit of God came and gave you life too. Now the Holy Spirit will NEVER leave you nor forsake you no matter what. Once a person is in Christ, and He is in them, no one can kick the Holy Spirit out of them by what they do.
And understanding the term “dead” and “living” as it is used throughout the Scriptures is key to understanding ALL Truth in the word of God. Most of the time, when the dead are spoken of in the Word of God it is referring to those lost people, without the Spirit of God living in them or would live in them in the future based on Faith in Jesus, regardless of whether a person is physically breathing flesh or not. The Dead in the grave were dead without the Spirit of God living in them. And don’t forget, God is God of the Living NOT the dead. And Jesus had to point out to them that key point too: “He is not the God of the Dead, but of the Living. You are badly mistaken!” Mark 12:27, for many people thought back then that everyone was automatically a Living person based on being physically born. It’s no different for today. There are many many people that automatically assume that everyone is a child of God. They are badly mistaken!
Now the point of the things being spoken of is that we have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the holy places and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord has pitched, not man. For every high priest is appointed in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices; wherefore it was necessary for this One also to have something that He might offer. Then certainly if He were on earth, not even would He be a priest, there being those offering the gifts according to Law, who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly, as Moses was divinely instructed, being about to complete the tabernacle. For He says, “See that you shall make all things according to the pattern having been shown you in the mountain.” But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted upon better promises. For if what was first had been faultless, no place would have been sought for a second. For finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, and I will ratify a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day of My having taken hold of their hand, to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord, For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord, putting My Laws into their mind, and I will inscribe them upon their hearts; and I will be to them God, and they will be to Me for a people. And they shall not teach, each his neighbor, and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because all will know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, because I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I shall remember their sins no more. In saying, “new,” He has made obsolete the first; and that which is growing old and aging is near vanishing. Hebrews 8:1-13
Consider having a Bible study yourself and teaching one or two others the Truth of the word of God. Those with ears, they will want to hear. We have many excellent Bible study books that are very easy to use that involve simply reading the word of God and answering the questions provided. The answers themselves are right there in the word of God.
Behold the Lamb of God Who Took Away the Sins of the World
Lord Jesus, teach me the TRUTH of the world we live in today and the Truth of You.
~ “With the Old Testament there isn’t anything wrong with the Old Testament. It’s just been replaced. It would be like saying that the old Victrolas with the great big old horn on the end of it, something was wrong with it? No, that was the only thing that was in existence at that time and and if you wanted to listen to music, that’s what you were going to have to use to listen to it. But that has been replaced by technology that has far exceeded that, and it’s the same thing as as it says in Hebrews eight Had there been nothing wrong with the first covenant and a cup, the word covenant is the same word as testament. So you could say with the First Testament, or the Old Testament, or an old will, all of those are interchangeable, a will, a testament, a covenant. And it said Had there been nothing wrong with the first covenant or the first will or the First Testament, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people. And so God forbid that he found fault with us, but that’s who he found fault with. And so he says, The time is coming, declares the Lord, that I will make a new covenant. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand and led them out of Egypt, because they did. And here’s the problem, they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord. And so there is now the introduction of the new covenant that we live in today the covenant of grace. And so we have to realize that this was God’s way of dealing with the Jewish nation and with people until the time that the Messiah came. And so it’s like the law when it was given, it was given for a purpose, and the purpose was to lead us to Christ.
And the law basically was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus, Christ, our Lord. And so the law was given for what purpose to show us to be sinful, so that we would turn to Christ for our justification by faith and by faith alone. And so the Old Covenant had a it was the only thing it was in existence until the time of Christ. But it was there to protect the Hebrew nation. It was there to set the Hebrew people apart from the rest of the entire world. That’s what it meant to be sanctified, set apart, be made different than all the other people of the world. Circumcision of the Hebrew was unique to the whole population of the world. And so he had to come. Now it was time to come, because the old did not work, he found fault with the people we could not keep and obey the laws of God. The only man who ever walked perfectly before God was the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s why he alone could fulfill the law that was given by God, uphold the law to die in the place of us who could not fulfill it, and therefore to usher in a brand new covenant of grace which we stand in today. And so in Hebrews seven, it says the former regulation. In other words, the Old Testament was set aside because it was weak and useless. For the law made nothing perfect. It could not make any. Any of us acceptable for God, and a better hope is introduced by which we draw near to God. And by calling this covenant new, he has made the first one obsolete. And what is obsolete is aging and will soon disappear. Anything wrong with it? No, but it says it’s obsolete. Now why? It’s been replaced by someone rather than something. And when something is obsolete, it ages and will soon disappear.
If you want to find one of those old Victrolas with the big horn sticking out of it, you’re going to have to go hunt very, very hard in an antique shop, and there you might find one sitting under a ton of dust waiting for someone to pick it up, not to play on because you couldn’t find anything to play on it, but to sit and look at it’s been replaced. And so the new has replaced the old. And where, where there’s a change of the priesthood as there was, that’s the reason for the priesthood was to uphold the laws of the Old Testament. Where there’s a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law. We are no longer under the Levitical priesthood.
Christ, Jesus is our eternal priest, and there was also a total change of the law. And so, as it says, the ministry now that Jesus has received is as superior to the Old Testament, saints, the Old Testament, priests, of which he is a mediator, is superior to the old one, and it’s founded on better promises. And so it’s not that the old cannot be used for historical purposes. It’s not that the Old Testament does not have wisdom in it, in the Psalms, the Proverbs, it has some, certainly some areas in there that would describe, probably more fully, at least as far as our interpretation is concerned, End Times, some of the things that will happen at end times, some of that, you certainly get a lot of instruction as to how Man was developed. So historically, there’s a lot of historical evidence in the old that is certainly not in the new. But as far as how to live your life, how to walk on this earth, there’s nothing in the Old Testament about being indwelt by Christ, Jesus. They didn’t know anything about Christ Jesus. They knew that the Messiah was coming, but they certainly didn’t know him.
And so from the day of Christ Jesus forward, we live under a brand new covenant of grace that no man ever lived under before. We live under a covenant of grace, whereby the life that we now possess as a result of the resurrection of Christ and the eternal consequence of the cross, we live with eternal life that cannot be taken away from us, even Christ, Jesus under the law, a man that sins will surely die, and the man who became sin for us died, and from that point on, when he gives life to the new creatures that he produces, that is created in Christ, we will never experience death again. No man was ever born like that prior to the day of Pentecost.
And so it says in Corinthians that He has made us competent as ministers of a New Covenant, not of an old. We’re not ministers of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, that’s the law, and the Spirit gives life. And so if anyone is in Christ now, he’s a new creation. The old is gone, the old covenant is gone, and the new has come. We’re under a new covenant. And all of this is from God who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us this ministry of reconciliation. What is this ministry? That God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And so you had the old for the purpose of instructions to the Hebrew as to how to live until such time that the Messiah comes. And that’s why we’re told that we were held captive under the law until, until the seed came. And the seed is Christ Jesus.
And so it’s a marvelous thing to understand that God has given us this Sabbath Rest now, where we rest from our works, just as he did from his and we’re able now to walk into the presence of God, calling him Daddy, Father and receiving mercy in our time of need. And so the Old Testament as an example, there were many shadows of the reality that was found in Christ. The Sabbath day was a shadow. And that’s why it says, Don’t let anyone judge you by a Sabbath day or these other things. They were merely a shadow of the reality that was found in Christ. A day of rest was a was a representative of every day of rest that we have in Christ, Jesus, it was an example of a day of rest. And now we rest every day. In Christ, Jesus, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for anyone who enters God’s rest rests from his own work. In other words, there’s nothing you can do to improve on what God has accomplished for you, just as God did from his and when God completed His work, what did he say? It’s finished, and therefore make every effort to enter into that rest. ” ~ Bob George

“But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.” Hebrews 8:6
