Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P1177 (10-30-26)
~ Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. ~ 1 John 5:12
The show featured callers asking Bob George questions about Christian faith and biblical teaching. Sam asked whether people who have never heard the gospel—including Muslims or people in remote regions—can be saved. Bob said that salvation comes through Christ NOT through religious identity, and that God will reveal Christ to people who sincerely seek Him. He shared a story about a man from Biafra who encountered a missionary after praying to know God.
He recalled the meeting a man named Joshua, from Biafra, at a conference when Bob was a new Christian. Joshua told him that, as a boy, his family and village worshiped idols carved from trees. He questioned whether those idols could truly be God: his father had made the idol, so Joshua wondered who had made the tree—and who had made the sky and the world. He said he would go out onto a hillside and ask God to reveal Himself.
In Bob’s telling, while Joshua was seeking answers in his remote village, a missionary in New York felt moved to travel there. The missionary told Joshua about Jesus, and Joshua accepted Christ; Bob said Joshua then led his village to faith as well. Bob shared the story to support his view that God reveals Christ to people who sincerely seek to know Him.
Larry asked what it means to “pick up your cross.” Bob explained it as putting faithfulness to Christ and sharing the Gospel ahead of personal comfort, not as a command to hate or reject family and friends. He also said that rejection may come from others, and that Jesus’ teachings show people their need for grace and new life.
John asked about suffering with Christ in Romans. George cautioned against seeking suffering as a way to serve God, describing it instead as something that may come with faith, such as rejection or persecution. His advice was to meet suffering with trust in the Lord..
Scripture Passages clearly cited or closely quoted
- Romans 8:17 — John asked about being “joint heirs with Christ” and suffering with Him; Bob explained that suffering may come with faith, but believers should not seek it out.
- Luke 14:26–27 — The passage about putting devotion to Jesus first, including the challenging language about “hating” family and carrying one’s cross. Bob explained this as prioritizing Christ, not literally hating loved ones.
- 1 John 5:12 — “He who has the Son has life,” which Bob used to emphasize salvation through Christ.
- Acts 4:12 — “There is no other name” by which people must be saved, referring to Jesus.
Other passages and themes discussed
- Colossians 1:14 (also similar wording in Ephesians 1:7) — Redemption and forgiveness.
- Matthew 5–7 — The Sermon on the Mount, which Bob said exposes human unrighteousness and need for grace.
- Romans 7:15–19 — John paraphrased Paul’s struggle between what he wants to do and what he does; Bob said that was part of the suffering being discussed.
- Galatians 6:17 — Possibly echoed in Bob’s reference to Paul carrying the scars or marks of ministry.
- Romans 5:12–21 and 1 Corinthians 15:22 — Related to Bob’s discussion of spiritual death through Adam and life through Christ; these were themes rather than references he named aloud.
