Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P731 (05-05-22)
The Perfect Love of Jesus Casts Away All Fear
In 1 John 4:18 we read:
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

In today’s first callin, we hear from Ann in Houston, Texas. She wanted to share her appreciation with Bob in regards to a recent radio program in dealing with people with cancers and the fears that doctors are instilling into their patients. It’s also important to remember that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and further to remember that we are all going to be absent from the body and present with the Lord for all those in Christ Jesus. Listen in as Bob and Ann discuss what is going on with doctors today. Nothing has changed, and if anything things have gotten worse. We need to be prepared for the crises that are sure to come into our lives, and it is vitally important that we understand who we are in Christ Jesus and the word of God. So many times, people are not prepared for crisis, because they do not even know the word of God.

The second caller, Randy, called in regards to questions of faith. He wanted to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was saved. Bob mentions that the things that are paramount in salvation. One is to face up to the fact that God calls sin, sin and that is what we are to begin with, a sinner. So we have to agree with God on what are problem is, and then we have to agree with Him in regards to His solution for the problem. And that is what we have to put faith in. God said the heart is wicked and deceitful above all things and who can know it. He also said that there’s none righteous, no not one. And so, that’s a problem. Because how is an unrighteous person going to go int the presence of a righteous God? God said, well, I’ll tell you because I came to give you My righteousness. I took your sins, all of them, and I placed them on Me at the cross, and there Jesus, who knew no sin, became sin for you, so that you could become the righteousness of God in Him. And I took them (all your sins) away from the eyes of God, never to see them again.
Randy compliments Bob on what Bob is teaching.
The third segment of today’s radio program Bob shares the gospel and explains the gospel message. Bob explains that we are not to add to or take away the gospel, because if we do then it is no longer the gospel. Let’s join Bob as he explains this
Bob: I’d like to take some time to teach on something that’s very dear to my heart right now due to a couple of calls.
Galatians 1:5-8
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!
We had some people, very sweet spirited people, but deeply deeply wrong in their understanding of Salvation. I want to go to Galatians 1 verses 6 through 8, and the Apostle Paul says to the readers and says to you and me today. I’m astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you. That’s Jesus that you are deserting, Jesus by the grace, to the one who called you, by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel, which is really no gospel at all. Evidently, some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even and listen to this bomb, even if we or an angel from heaven, should preach a gospel other than the one we preached.
And that is unbelievably strong language, coming from the Apostle Paul, who taught grace, the teacher of grace, the administrator of the grace of God, that was given to the Gentile world, as well as to the Hebrew world. And here, out of this person who taught the totality of the grace of God, is the one who says, if you, if we, or an angel from heaven, should teach and preach a gospel, other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned. And so there is a gospel; and then there are different gospels or false gospels. What would a false gospel do? One, the false gospel would be one that added to the gospel. Subtracted from the real gospel. Denied the truth of the real gospel. Tried to make Jesus into something one that He was not. But is basically adding to what the gospel is.
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
So follow, along with me guys. This is very important, in the 15th chapter of Corinthians. Now, if we want to know what, Paul, the same one who wrote that if we or an angel from heaven, should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned. So let’s find out what this same Apostle thought the gospel was. The 15th chapter of 1 Corinthians. Brothers. I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you. So again, you see, it’s just the same language, even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel. And then he says, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you; talking about the same thing. Which you receive and on which you have taken your stand, by this gospel you are saved. So here’s the gospel and the gospel is what did God do? What is the good news that God did for you and me that we couldn’t do for ourselves? And it was involved in the death and burial and resurrection.
And so it goes ahead to say by this gospel, not one added to or subtract from, but this gospel that we preach to you, is the one you’re saved by in light of the fact that you hold firmly to the word I preached to, otherwise, you believed in vain. In other words, if you start adding to it, then it means that you didn’t believe the gospel. That’s what John says. They went out from among us because they were never a part of us. So if you try to do what Jesus did and make that a part of the gospel, it means that you’d never believed the gospel. You get what I mean? If I’ve got to add to it, I didn’t believe it. So, I have to deny that this is the gospel that saves and add to it. No, this is the gospel that saves you. See what I’m getting at? You’ve got to deny the truth of the gospel, and grab hold of what you have, that is now added to the gospel. He said, you believed in vain. Now, for what I received, I passed on to you of first importance that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures. He was buried and that he was raised on the third day, according to the scriptures and that he appeared to Peter. And then to the twelve after that. He appeared to more than 500 of the brothers. At the same time, most of whom are still living though. Some have fallen asleep. And he appeared to James then to all the apostles and last of all he appeared to me also as to one abnormally born. That is the gospel. He was buried. He was raised according to the scriptures. And he appeared to us. The death, the burial and the resurrection of Christ Jesus is the gospel that saves you. If anyone comes along and preaches a gospel contrary to that, which he said is no gospel at all. And even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you. And this is just what he preached to you. Just read what he preached to you. Let him be eternally condemned. Now, I ask you a question. Is there anything about baptism in this statement? Not at all. No, because that’s not the gospel. Baptism is not in the gospel. And so we have to understand the truth of this, that it is not in the gospel.
1 Corinthians 1:13-17
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
It talks about the fact that it is not in the gospel and Paul deals with that, I didn’t baptize anyone. He said oh, yes. He said I baptized Crispus and Gaius beyond that I didn’t baptize anyone. And so he said, was Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized into the name of Paul? I’m thankful. I didn’t baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius so no one could say, you were baptized in my name. Yes, also baptized the household of stephanas. Beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else for Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel. Now, my friends, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out, that statement annihilates the idea of baptism being in the gospel. He didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel.
If you say that and he said to preach the gospel, not with words of human wisdom less the cross be emptied of its power. How’s the cross emptied of its power? By adding to what the cross did. And so what he is saying here to us, that I’ve given you a definition of what the gospel is, no more, no less. It’s all Jesus. It’s all what Jesus did, period. And, it has nothing to do with you. And so when he defines the same writer defines the gospel, it’s the death, and burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus. And he says that if anyone comes up with a gospel, contrary to that, and we’ve you add something to the gospel, you have a gospel that is no gospel at all. Why? Because you’ve added to it. Or subtracted from it. And he says, let them be eternally condemned.
If I was teaching as the Church of Christ people who we had two calls today, who we’re teaching that you’re saved by baptism, I’d be petrified because the Bible says that you’re going to be eternally condemned. Why? You’re not preaching the gospel, you’re adding to the gospel and in so adding to it, you’re subtracting from it. You’re adding something that you do and therefore subtracting everything that Jesus did. And so to me, people, they mean well, but I want to tell you, you cannot add tongues, baptisms, church attendance, or tithing records to the gospel. The gospel comes from God. There’s only one thing you can do with that, enter into it by faith. And that’s what it means to obey the gospel, is to enter into the gospel by faith. They come along and say, obedience means getting baptized. Well, is that all you’re going to do as a Christian, get baptized, and then forget the rest of the obedience to God, quit loving each other? It is my prayer that these people will come to their senses someplace down the line. Quit teaching this divisive gospel. That is no gospel at all. Adding to what Jesus did under the direction of God himself through the Apostle Paul saying, that you’re going to be eternally condemned if you continue doing that. There’s only one way that you are saved. It’s not by anything you have done. It’s by everything He has done, and that he died to take away your sins, was buried to prove his death and raised from the dead, so that that life, that raised Him from the dead, can raise you from the dead and you had nothing at all to do with any of that. Please. Please get rid of the additives and come back to the Real Gospel.
