The Work of The Ministry is to Believe in Jesus

~ The book of James chapter 2 verses 18 through 26 gives two prime examples of Faith and Works. Yet most overlook the details in the Word of God, and simply take a quote from Scripture, out of context, and declare, “faith without works is dead” even though it doesn’t specifically say that in most of the translations. Most people have no clue what “Faith” is, and no clue what “Works” is either. They come up with all types of ideas of what constitutes a “good work” and it’s most people that are like this that have never exercised true Faith in the Faithful One of God, Jesus, God in Flesh. They do not know the work of the ministry is to Believe in Jesus.

Let’s get back to the two examples of faith and works to see how Faith and Works, works together. Details matter in Everything.

But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith by my works. You believe that God is one. You are doing well! Even the demons believe that, and shudder!

But do you want to come to know, O foolish man, that faith apart from works is worthless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, having offered his son Isaac upon the altar? You see that his faith was working with his works, and by his works, his faith was perfected. And the Scripture was fulfilled, saying, “And Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness,” and he was called a friend of God. You see that a man is justified by works, and not by faith alone.

And likewise was not Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, having received the messengers and having sent them forth by another way? For just as the body apart from spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

The first example was of Abraham, being justified by what He did (believing God) by obeying God to do what God told him to do, and to trust in God at each step along the way. It’s a picture of trusting in the Trustworthy One of God, Himself, Jesus to do ALL that He said He would do. Most people don’t even consider that a work. But the scripture actually declares it as a work.

The second example is even more interesting. Most people overlook this one too, as being a “good work,” but it is key to understanding what works really are. It’s the story of Rahab the prostitute, being justified before God, by her works. It’s worth taking the time to read the story in full, to see how Rahab received the messengers of God, and sent them forth another way, so that the government authorities did not find them. Imagine that, Rahab actually LIED to the government in order to protect the messengers of God. Imagine if Rahab got caught and found out about protecting the spies, she would probably have been arrested and executed for what she did. But she believed God, and the messengers of the True God and did the right thing.

Abraham believed God & obeyed God. Faith ~ Works.
Abraham laid it all on the line. By his actions of offering his son (having been told that by God), right up to the point of God calls out his name “Abraham, Abraham!” and Abraham responds “Here I am,” and then the Lord says “Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him,…” at which point in time Abraham did stop, thus believing God at each step along the way.

Rahab believed God, and His messengers of God, even lying to the so-called government. Faith ~ Works.
Rahab laid it all on the line. If she was found out, she would have been arrested and most likely executed.

Neither one of those stories are hardly mentioned by others today in regards to doing good works. And the reason is, people have their own idea of good works instead of understanding what Faith and Works really are in the sight of God as is taught directly from the Word of God. And today, by their own actions (of unbelief on display) they show that a dead faith is useless when it comes to the work of God. For they placed their faith in their own faith, instead of Faith in the Truth of the Word of God.

Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim, saying, “Go, inspect the land, especially Jericho.” So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.

And it was reported to the king of Jericho: “Behold, some men of Israel have come here tonight to spy out the land.”

So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab and said, “Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, for they have come to spy out the whole land.”

But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. So she said, “Yes, the men did come to me, but I did not know where they had come from. At dusk, when the gate was about to close, the men went out, and I do not know which way they went. Pursue them quickly, and you may catch them!” (But Rahab had taken them up to the roof and hidden them among the stalks of flax that she had laid out there.)

So the king’s men set out in pursuit of the spies along the road to the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as they had gone out, the gate was shut.

Before the spies lay down for the night, Rahab went up on the roof and said to them, “I know that the LORD has given you this land and that the fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who dwell in the land are melting in fear of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites across the Jordan, whom you devoted to destruction. When we heard this, our hearts melted and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in the heavens above and on the earth below.

Now therefore, please swear to me by the LORD that you will indeed show kindness to my family, because I showed kindness to you. Give me a sure sign that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and that you will deliver us from death.”

“Our lives for your lives!” the men agreed. “If you do not report our mission, we will show you kindness and faithfulness when the LORD gives us the land.”

Then Rahab let them down by a rope through the window, since the house where she lived was built into the wall of the city. “Go to the hill country,” she said, “so that your pursuers will not find you. Hide yourselves there for three days until they have returned; then go on your way.”

The men said to her, “We will not be bound by this oath you made us swear unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother and brothers and all your family into your house. If anyone goes out the door of your house into the street, his blood will be on his own head, and we will be innocent. But if a hand is laid on anyone with you in the house, his blood will be on our heads. And if you report our mission, we will be released from the oath you made us swear.”

“Let it be as you say,” she replied, and she sent them away. And when they had gone, she tied the scarlet cord in the window.

So the spies went out into the hill country and stayed there three days, until their pursuers had returned without finding them, having searched all along the road. Then the two men started back, came down from the hill country, and crossed the river. So they came to Joshua son of Nun and reported all that had happened to them.

“The LORD has surely delivered the entire land into our hands,” they said to Joshua. “Indeed, all who dwell in the land are melting in fear of us.”

Consider having a Bible study yourself and teaching one or two others the Truth of the word of God. Those with ears, they will want to hear. We have many excellent Bible study books that are very easy to use that involve simply reading the word of God and answering the questions provided. The answers themselves are right there in the word of God.

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” ^{2 Corinthians 5:18-21}

And faith does produce the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience and kindness and goodness. But the whole issue of that earnest is the fact that if you have true faith and you are abiding in a true Jesus, then Jesus is going to be producing his works in and through you, and that will be evident to those around you.” ~ Bob George
