Let The Holy Spirit of God Control Your Life

We continue on with Bob teaching out of the bible study, A Closer Look at The Reality of The Resurrection.

The law written on stone, shows you your sinfulness. And that’s what the Bible says, that the law was given to show us to be perfectly sinful though, so that we would turn to Christ for our redemption. My friends, the law had a purpose, the law still has a purpose, but it says, it’s not to the saved. It’s to the lost and the purpose of the law to the lost, is to show us to be perfectly sinful so that we see and turn to him for his provision.

Now if that ministry that brought death that he’s talking to the wages of sin is death. Here’s the law. Violate it and a goner. If that ministry that brought death, which was engraved on letters of stone came with glory and it did so much Glory that the Israelites couldn’t even look steadily at the face of Moses because of its Glory fading though, it was (and it goes ahead to say) how much more do you think the new covenant, the glory of the new covenant. So you see, we’re not talking about a ministry written on stone. You’re talking about a ministry of the holy Spirit of God living in you and me. We’re by, it’s written on our hearts. Not on a piece of stone. The law kills, but the Spirit gives life. Well, let’s take a look then, as to how we are to worship God according to the Bible. First of all, it says in John 4:24 that God is Spirit and his worshipers must worship Him in what Spirit and in truth? Now folks there’s a lot of complication isn’t there in regard to worship and we have worship services and most churches have worship services. They call them worship services, but the scripture says that true worship is worshiping in Spirit and in truth. So we’re gonna have a worship service and teach you the 10 commandments. So that you can all try to obey them. Is that a worship service? No, that’s a death service. That’s a funeral.

Because the law kills, the Spirit gives life. We look at worship as a service, something that we do at a service. But you see true worship of God is something that is done in the heart. It’s not done in a building. It’s done in the heart. And if you’re going to the worship of God, which is the respect in the all the acknowledgement that God, you are who you are is done in Spirit and in truth to understand that this is the Spirit of God. This is God himself at and as truth and truth alone.

When it’s remember, we talked about, Jesus, we beheld, his glory, the glory of the only begotten, Son of the Father, full of what grace and truth that comes through the Spirit of God to us.

So, folks worship could be all over the place, you go, some places and worship is lifting up your hands and singing songs and jumping and hollering and all kinds of things. And you go to another place and it’s sitting there very quietly with your little hands folded your lap and wouldn’t make a sound if E. F. Hutton had spoke it just it. Just one of those things that you just want are not going to do and both are called worship services. And you realize folks that everything that we as and have created that we call worship. Do you realize every one of those things could be totally duplicated by lost people? You don’t have to be saved to do that. You don’t have to be saved to sing songs. You don’t have to be saved, even get goosebumps when you sing them. You don’t have to be saved to lift your arms up to God. You don’t have to be saved, to keep them quietly in your lap. You don’t have to be saved to say, amen and hallelujah. Or to be quiet as a mouse, you don’t have be saved for any of those things. You don’t have to be saved to speak in an unknown tongue. You can do that lost. You don’t have to be saved as a saved person to say, praise the Lord hallelujah. You can be totally lost and do any one of those things.

So, the things that we call worship aren’t worship at all. When it comes to what God calls worship. God is Spirit. And if you’re going to worship him, you’re going to have to worship in Spirit and in truth. And that’s not getting all Spirit-filled and going to a worship service. It’s what he talks about in Romans 12. I beseech, you, therefore brethren by the mercies of God as a result of the grace and the mercy of God to now present your body in dwelt by the Spirit of God present your body as a Living Sacrifice. Holy and acceptable in the sight of God, which is your reasonable worship.

How are you going to present yourself your bodies to I Living, God, living in you If he isn’t living in you? I mean, how can I make my body available to God? Living in me? If God isn’t living in me? So only a born-again Christian can make his body available to the living God, living in him because only in a born-again Christian is God living in you. And only a Christian has the ability to worship God in Spirit because unless you’re born again of the Spirit, you’re not born again. And only a born again, Christian can worship Him in truth because until the Spirit of God lives in you, you wouldn’t know truth if it smacked you in the face.

Because truth has to be revealed by the Spirit of God living in you. Your eye hasn’t seen your ear hasn’t heard. Your mind has not conceived of those things that God has prepared for those who love him. It must be revealed by the Spirit. You can’t even know the truth until you know, Christ who alone is truth. So when you’re talking about worship, you’re not talking about singing songs or dancing around or any of the other things you’re talking about a day to day moment by moment experience, not something you do on Sunday with something.

Worship is making your body, 24 hours a day, available to the living God, who lives in you, living through you. That’s truth. And that is Spirit. It’s walking in the Spirit. I’m worshipping God by allowing his Spirit to live through me, rather than thinking, I’m worshipping God by being under the law, which means if I don’t go to the service, I’m going to get zapped. That’s law. So it isn’t where you go, it’s who you are. It doesn’t have anything to do with something collective necessarily. It has to do with you individually and me individually walking in the newness of life, which means to walk in the Spirit and therefore, find ourselves not fulfilling the desires of the flesh.

God is Spirit and his worshipers must worship in Spirit. And in truth, God is Spirit and his worshipers must worship in Spirit and in truth. Well, then what is Spirit and Truth? John 16:13, you’re going to be seeing in there where Jesus was getting ready to depart and he said to his disciples that it is good for you. That I go away. For when I do. I’m going to send the Holy Spirit. I’m going to send the comforter, the counselor to you. And when he, the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. And we need to understand that the Spirit of Truth, he must worship in Spirit and in truth. Which means that I must worship in the Spirit of God Christ alive, living in me, who alone is Spirit. And that is the Spirit of Truth. And when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own. He will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

Now folks when the holy Spirit of God, who is the Spirit of truth comes, he’s going to guide you into all truth. Are you in dwelt by the Spirit of God? Are you born again? Why then there is a promise that God made to you that the Spirit of God living in you will guide you into all truth. Now if we already knew all truth, what would I need to be guided into all Truth for and that means for the rest of your life? You and I are going to be guided into the truth of Christ Jesus. The depth of his love the height of his love. The width of his love. The prayer that Paul prayed that I pray that you by the Spirit of God, the power of God living in, you will be at home in Christ, being at home in your inner being and that you will be able through the power of God, to know the height and depth and breadth and width of the love of God to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you’ll be controlled filled to the measure with the fullness of God.

And so, will for the rest of our lives. be being taught by the Spirit of God alive, living in us, of the depths of the love of God, and hopefully, to be able to come someday as the Apostle Paul did, when he said, I’m convinced nothing can separate me from the love of God. How do you get convinced to that? Through the content. Because the continual teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit of God living in him. Now, if the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Truth is going to lead you into all truth you kind of get the idea that maybe truth might be important. Now you say who’s the source of that? John 14:6. Jesus said, I am the way and the truth and no one comes to the Father, except through me. So Jesus identified himself as not only the way to God, but he is the truth about God and he is the very life of God.

And therefore that kind of is all you need. You’ve got the way to God. You’ve got the truth about God and you have the life of God and all of that comes through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Now Jesus said, I am truth and in John 17:17. He says sanctify them, set them apart by the truth and your word is truth. So the word of God, the spoken word of God is truth. The written word of God that we hold into our hands today is truth.

That’s Grace. That’s the grace of God. Now, who’s doing that? What is necessary living in a Believer to understand the grace of God? The Spirit revealing it. You can’t understand the truth of the grace of God my friends until the Spirit reveals it to you. You don’t need the grace of God, to understand the law of God. The law of God was given to save lost people. You don’t need the Spirit living in you to understand the law, given to the lost. You need the Spirit of God to understand grace and that’s where you see, very many people who are sitting there under the law.

And when the Spirit of God comes to live within you, the Spirit gives you the ability to understand not the law, but the grace of God. And when you understand the grace of God, you now can really understand what the law came to do. A legalist doesn’t believe that the law came to point you to Jesus. He said it’s there to obey and if you don’t why we’ll be there to zap you, in case God misses you. Now, we need to understand that no eye has seen. No ear has heard or mind has conceived. What God has prepared. For those who love him. It must be revealed by the Spirit.

Folks, I don’t care how many seminaries you go to. I don’t care how proficient you are in Greek. If learning Greek enables you to understand the word of God, how come the Greeks didn’t understand it? They didn’t even have to go to seminary. If understanding Hebrew enabled you to understand the word of God, what happened to the Jews? They didn’t have to go to seminary to study Hebrew. They had heard or learned Hebrew from Age 4 and 5 on. So if learning a language enabled you to understand what it was said, those people would have a thorough knowledge of what it meant. They did know what it says. They just did not know what it meant. I’m not negating whether or not a person wants to study that but please don’t ever study those languages thinking that those languages are going to teach you what the word of God means. It isn’t. You may have a clear idea of what it says. But unless the Spirit of God teaches you you’re not going to know what it means. And when you do know what it means, it isn’t going to have any meaning to you until your understanding of the grace of God. Those are the things that God freely gave you and when it comes to the grace of God, a proud heart can’t receive it anyway. A proud heart rebels. Again it is only the humble heart that receives it. And many times it’s the very education that puffs us up so that we cannot receive the grace of God. And quite frankly, again, I think that’s why there’s so many different interpretations of the word of God. We’re not depending upon the Spirit to teach us. We’re depending upon our own intellect, which incidentally, God said is foolishness.

We are going through our lesson now on what it means to be led by the Spirit of God. We’re talking about that. The Holy Spirit of God, living in us is going to be leading us into all truth. God is Spirit. You must worship Him in Spirit. And in truth. Jesus said, I am the truth. And now the Spirit of God today has now that Jesus said I’m going away, but the Spirit of God is going to come to you. That’s how we’re born again of the Spirit of God comes to live within us. And now his work in us is to lead us into all truth. And enabling you and me to understand those things that God has freely given us. And that is dealing with the free gift of grace, the free gift of righteousness, the free gift of salvation that is ours through the one that he said I came to make known and that is Christ Jesus. So the Spirit of God leads us into all truth and enables us to understand the grace of God. Now, what about this expression to be filled with the Spirit, or filled with a life of Christ? In Ephesians 5:18, a very familiar passage. Once again, we memorize the verse, but forget the context many times, but it says don’t be drunk with wine, which leads to debauchery, but instead be filled with the Spirit. Well, you look at that and you say, well, I wonder why they did that illustration. I mean to compare filled with the Spirit with being drunk with wine. Does that mean we’re supposed to walk around and slur and stagger, and think, we’re King Kong, and all that type of thing? What what, what is that? Well, when you’re drunk, you’re dependent upon something. And that’s not talking about going out and having a weekend, toot. It’s talking about a continual being drunk, continually being drunk and that’s the verbiage of the verse do not be and get continually being drunk. Instead, be continually being filled. Now. What does it mean to be filled with the spirit? What does it mean to be filled? The being filled to be controlled by? And so, when you’re drunk, you’re controlled by the substance that is in you, wine or booze. You’re controlled by it. You’re out of control.

Instead be controlled by the Spirit of God that is living within you. Now, when you understand that then you’re saying well then, what does it mean to be controlled by the Spirit? I have, some of you know, what it is to be controlled by wine and have been through that experience. So, you know what, that’s all about. Your left eye goes one on the other and so we know what that’s all about, that the booze in you in enough quantity controls you.

And, you also know that if you continue in that lifestyle that it’ll totally control you because of your dependency upon it to do that very thing. But instead, we’re to be controlled by the Spirit of God. Now, what does that mean? Well, surprisingly enough being controlled being filled with the Spirit and 5:18 it explains in 3:19. Just two chapters back. What that means, and again, it takes the Spirit of God living in us to reveal that, but here’s what it means.

Now in that prayer of the Apostle, Paul, he’s praying that you and I will know the height and depth and breadth and width of the love of God. And to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you might be filled to the measure with all of the fullness of God. Now in chapter three, it says to be filled to the measure with all of the fullness of God. In chapter five, it says to be filled with the Spirit. Now, would it be possible to be filled with all of the fullness of God and not be filled with the Spirit would be possible with it? How come? Well, because the Spirit is God. So, how in the world, could you be filled with the Spirit and not be filled with all the fullness of God? Or how could you be filled with all the fullness of God, not be filled with the Spirit? They’re one of the same. So now we’ve got the context of what this is all about. That’s to be controlled to the measure, with all the fullness of God is to be controlled by God. Now, what is that verse in, in the third chapter, the prayer of Paul? What is he talking about? What does it mean to be controlled to the measure with all the fullness of God? Well, it means to be controlled by the love of God. It’s what it’s telling us that I pray that you will be filled to the measure with the fullness of God. How’s that about? Knowing the height and depth, and breadth, and width of the love of God, and knowing this love that surpasses knowledge. Well, stop to think about it for a moment. What did Paul say constrained him, which means controlled by the love of God? What control? Jesus for the love of God. What is to control you and me? What’s the love of God? Being filled with the Spirit doesn’t mean dancing around the streets. It doesn’t mean some kind of wild reaction that we do in a service. It means daily moment by moment in your life to be filled to be controlled by the love of God, to be under the control of the love of God.

Most Christians do we know and we’re not being controlled by the love of God. I think it’s quite evident. If it’s not too. You’d probably still see the people around you because it’s pretty evident, when we’re not being controlled by love. Because I’m not being controlled by love. What’s controlling me? Pride. And we have to go back to 1 Corinthians 13 to see what love is all about. And so it’s so vitally important that we understand once again that love. Grace all of that is Jesus. All of that is all about him. And he says that, I pray this, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, and there’s another buzzword: power to do something? No power to grasp something that you may have power to grasp. How wide, and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.
