Classic Christianity – The Book of John P33 (04-19-23)

Jesus is Our Life and the Answer to Life! Do You Know You Have Life?

~ Who are you going to listen to, man or God? We are so quick to latch on to what man has to say about the things of this world, yet we don’t go back to the word of God to verify the things that are being said to see if they are true or not. Are you believing something because of man’s testimony or because the Holy Spirit taught you Truth? This is True in ALL things today.

~ “We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:9-13

“And so we have this tendency to grab a hold and to believe all of these things that are told to us in the world. And Peter here is saying something so profound, folks, where am I going to go for spiritual truth? Where am I gonna go to find that? You’re the only one that has the answer. And, Lord, I believe this. Because I know something. I know who you are. And if you’re who you are, then I know you’re telling me truth. And I can rely on it and count on it. I don’t care what some teacher says. I don’t care what some scientist says. I don’t care what some theory says. I know how man got on this earth. He was created by the hand of God. And we know that. Jesus replied to them. Have I not chosen you the 12 yet one of you as a devil. He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, who through one of the 12 was later to betray him. He said, I know you, I know who you are.”

Bob George 0:29
Where am I going to go to find the answers to life? Where am I going to go? And he says, Who, where can I go, Lord, to whom can I go? Not where but to whom can I go? You alone have the words of eternal life. You alone are the only one capable of telling me what happened eternally. You alone are the only one that knows what happened in the past. Where am I gonna go to find eternal life? Why does He know that? Because he knows he’s the Holy One of God. And folks, we can turn to anything we want to turn. And we can say we believe anything we want to believe. But the issue is where do you get your information? Where do you get the information? Where did you find out all this stuff that you’re so anxious to communicate to other people? Where did you get it? Did Jesus give it to us? Or did we get it from man? If you’re going to study about the makeup of man this control center up here called our brain, where are we gonna go to learn about that? The fraud, Freud, excuse me. Or are you gonna go to Jesus who made us? Which one do you suppose is more truthful? Segment fraud, or Jesus? Jesus said, I know man. And I do not need the testimony of man concerning man, I don’t need anybody telling me about man I made man. If you want to find out about yourself, go to the manufacturer. You don’t go to one who has been manufactured. But you go to the manufacturer, I know God.

And so we have this tendency to grab a hold and to believe all of these things that are told to us in the world. He said, I know you, I know who you are.

Now we pick up in chapter seven. And we’re going to pick up at a time of the year at called the Feast of Tabernacles. And the Feast of Tabernacles, appeared in the month of September and October. It’s about this time of the year in Israel. For the for this Feast of Tabernacles. The Feast of Tabernacles was a celebration where people lived, went out and lived in shelters that were made of the leaves, the branches, the olive leaves, and the palm leaves and that type of thing made of branches in celebration, and remembrance of the 40 years that they lived in the desert. And that’s what was called the Feast of Tabernacles. You went out lived in this tabernacle for seven days. It was the autumn festival. It came at the end of the fruit harvest. And at the end of the harvest, we celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles. So with that in mind, let’s pick up in chapter seven. Because of this, Jesus went around in Galilee, purposely staying away from Judea, because the Judeans were there waiting to take his life. Jesus knew that the leadership of the Judeans, and again, when you hear this word, the Judeans, you’re not talking about the common people. You’re talking about the leadership, you’re talking about the Pharisees and the Sadducees and the people who make up the leadership in Israel. The Judeans were waiting for him to show up at the feast in order to take his life to kill him. Of course, in the name of God. Isn’t amazing how blind we are to our own sins, folks? Have you ever noticed how alive you are to other people’s sins and how blind we are to our own? That’s a true thing. You see these people who are Pharisees would think nothing about killing somebody who disagreed with him but don’t spit on the ground on the Sabbath, that’s sin. Or don’t work on the Sabbath that’s sin. Now if you happen to have to kill somebody, that’s okay, but don’t work. And thought that was perfectly okay. And you’re thinking that’s how we can rationalize isn’t not our own sinful thoughts and behavior. And so it says that when the Israel Feast of Tabernacles was near, Jesus’ brothers said to him, now catch this guys.

You know, I’ve said before, how would you like to have had Jesus as your brother? When you sit there like, Oh, that’d be nice. Oh, really, always doing what’s right. Never saying a bad word to the other brothers. Always obedient to the parents. I mean, guys, I’m gonna tell you something Jesus brothers, we’re not fond of him. Now, that’s not amazing. That’s kind of hard to understand. These are my brothers. Now, some of you are sitting out there who are brothers. So listen to this. They didn’t like their older brother. They didn’t like Jesus. Now, some people come in and say, Oh, brothers, that just means Israel brothers. No, it doesn’t. It means brothers. And I’ll show that to you in a moment.

Jesus brothers said to him catch the heart of this. Jesus, you ought to leave here and go to Judea. Now he just got through saying that he didn’t go because people are waiting to kill him. Now do you suppose the brothers knew that? Well, of course they did. But they’re saying, hey, going into the city, so that your disciples may see the miracles that you’re doing Jesus? No one who wants to become a public figure. In other words, no one like you who wants to be known publicly acts in secret. Can you hear the sarcasm that’s here, guys? He’s saying that anyone who wants to be a public figure, no one acts in secret. And since you’re doing these things, and so if you keep on insisting on turning water into wine, and all this walking on water, and all this stuff, since you want to be this public figure, going into the city, no one who wants to be a public figure acts in secret, you do it out in public. Can you hear the sarcasm, guys, of Jesus own brothers. And since you’re doing these things, Go show yourself to the world. You want to be a big dog, Go show yourself to the world, go out there and let yourself be known. What’s it say? For even his own brothers did not believe in Him.

Now let’s turn to Matthew 13:55. And folks, this ties in what we’re going to discuss a little bit today. It ties in once again to what we were talking about earlier. Do we base our belief system upon the teaching of the Word of God? Or do you base your belief system based upon what I teach you about the word of God? Or what the Catholics teach you about the word of God or the Presbyterians or the Methodists or the Baptists, or the Seventh Day Adventists? Or whoever it might be? Do we sit and determine what the Word of God is true or not based upon what the scripture say? Or is it based upon what someone else is telling you? And again, which is it? Now again, if you do not ever read this scripture, you don’t know what it says. I can remember I never had the Bible open guys until I was saved at 36. When I was saved and open the Bible, it cracked. Because it had never been opened. So anything that I believed now, did I have an intellectual belief that Jesus was the Son of God? Yeah, yeah. Son of God. I didn’t get along. What did that mean? I don’t have a clue. Maybe God had a baby. I don’t know. Did I believe that Jesus died on a cross? I did believed it. Did I believe that Jesus was raised from the dead? Absolutely sang about it every Easter? Did I believe those things? I did. Why? I don’t know. Somebody said it. I heard it in church someplace. Thank God, or I heard it through singing of a song I caught the drift. But did I ever know that Bible studying the Word of God? No, never studied the Word of God. So I didn’t know that. I just knew what somebody had told me and I believe that I remember going to a pastor one time say hey, what are we Presbyterians believe? He didn’t know either. So I walked out there still not knowing but something about that everything will work out in the end. Okay, that’s, that’s good enough for me. Everything will work out in the end. So guys, we’ve got a choice as to whether we’re going to believe something based on the Word of God or believe in what the church has told me. Don’t we? Because the church might be telling you something contrary to what the Word of God says. Now, when it deals with this thing called Jesus, and it deals with this thing called his mother, Mary, and his father, Joseph, and whether or not Mary remained a virgin for all of her life, which is taught in a huge denomination across the world. You better take a look to see is that true? Or is that a lie? And I’m not gonna go to the Pope for the question to answer that question. I’m gonna go to the Word of God to answer that question. Am I not? If I’m smart. Now, if I want to walk around in a blind belief, because that’s what you have. Well, why do you believe that? Well, because the Catholics told me why do you believe this? Well, because the Baptist told me what do you because Presbyterian told me. Man, we’re out of it. You don’t know anything except what someone’s told you. And so you must go to the Word of God to find the answers on these things. And so here’s the answer.

In Matthew 13:55, isn’t he Jesus, a carpenter’s son? And we know marry his mother and his brothers. And not only does it say that he had brothers, they name them and sisters. Who were his brothers? James, Joseph, Simon, Judas, and all of his sisters, so he had more than one. His sisters live right here among us. What makes him so great? And they were deeply offended, and refused to believe in Him.

Who didn’t believe in him? Looks like the whole gang. Now, guys, here’s another thing. You hear people today say, Boy, you got to go out and model. Well, I’m gonna ask you a question. How good of a model was Jesus? You think he was pretty good or not? I mean, if you were gonna model the Christian life, would he be a pretty good example? As Archie Bunker said, he’s pretty good Christian. Did Jesus live his life in front of his brothers and sisters? Did Jesus lived his life in front of the Pharisees and the Sadducees? Did he live his life? Did he speak what he knew to be true? Did he model his own life to people? Yes, he did. Did his family believe in him? No, they didn’t. Did the apostle did the Pharisees believe in him? No, they didn’t. Sadducees believing No, they didn’t.

You know what the Bible says? We’ll get to that in a minute. But I’m gonna go to just a little bit in advance. In verse 17 of this chapter, if anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. Do you know that the only way that you’re going to ever know, whether Jesus speaks truth or not, is it If your heart is, I want to do God’s will. I want to know God. I want to be his guy. He who speaks on his own, he who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself. You got two attitudes. You got an attitude of do I want God’s will? Or do I want to gain honor for myself? That’s what it says, two attitudes. I want to do God’s will. Or I want to gain honor for myself. The reason I’m doing what I’m doing is to gain honor for myself to draw attention to myself. Any of us ever done that? I can remember my early days of being an immature Christian, which it would be impossible to be a mature Christian in your early days. But I learned how to go share Jesus. And that was easy for me because I came from a sales background. So I just sold Jesus instead of carpeting. And I couldn’t remember guys with my little four law booklet of reading it to somebody and looking at the corner my see if he was watching me. Why was I doing that? To bring honor to myself, so that I could go back to my meetings and say, shared Christ today with 10 people, 15 came to the Lord miracle, Pentecost all over again. To bring honor to myself. If you want to know what truth is, you’ve got to have a heart that says, It’s not my will, but yours be done. I hear a lot of people in prayer, I said, Do you want your prayers answered? Or do you want God’s will for your life? Why? Because the two aren’t the same. And many times our prayers are just gimme, gimme, gimme, I don’t care what your will or not, Lord, I need this. And so when you have a heart that says, I want to know the will of God, it says you will know whether my teaching is true or not.

And so folks, Mary, blessed of all women. Think about that for a minute. The little maidan that God chose to occupy her womb, Mary, but let me borrow your womb, to bear the life of the child, Jesus. I love that song, that song when, Mary Did you know that when you kiss baby Jesus, you kissed the face of God? Blessed of all women in that. But folks, I want to tell you something. Mary was indwelt with Jesus, for nine months. You and I, when we’re born again, are indwelt with Jesus forever. And so as blessed as Mary was, we are even more blessed to be indwelt by the living Christ, living in us, who has our hope of glory. And so to glorify someone, over and above what the Bible does, is deception, folks, I don’t care what you want to call it. It’s deception. And we must stand against deception by the proclamation of truth. Mary was married to Joseph, and Mary and Joseph had children. They had James and Joseph and Simon and Judas, and a bunch of sisters. So it was going to be now either she had a virgin birth on all of those or else they had a normal marriage. Which do you think it is? And so to say that Mary was a virgin, all of her life is deception folks. But you see if you can say that, then you can say, well, that’s who you pray to because Jesus is too busy. Or to glorify or to make a co-redemptorists with Jesus, which is now being done. And you can see how easy when your premises off just a little bit, how easy it is for it to get off entirely sooner or later, if you just let it go. And so a little bit of air will create a whole bunch of air if you let it go.

Now, another, Mark 6:1. Jesus left that part of the country and returned with his disciples to Nazareth, in his hometown. And the next day Sabbath was the next Sabbath, He began teaching in the synagogue. And many of you heard him were astonished. And he asked, here’s another question, where did he get all this wisdom and power to perform such miracles? Where’d he get this wisdom and power? He’s just the carpenter. He is just the carpenter. That’s what he did physically. The son of Mary, and the brother of James, and Joseph, and Judas and Simon and his sisters, they’re again recorded again, live right here among us, they’re alive. And they were deeply offended and refuse to believe in Him. So not only did his family not believe in him. But the people in Nazareth did not believe in him. It’s kind of mind boggling to a degree, guys, when you when you when you realize this is how the world could people living as close to Jesus as they did? How could they deny that?

Turn with me for a minute, to, if you’re in Mark turned over to Mark 3:20. Mark 3:20, Jesus entered the house and again, the crowd gathered so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. When his family at this, they went to take charge of him for they said, he is out of his mind. Who said that? His family. What was Jesus doing? Well, he was ministering to people, healing people. And they entered the house. And again, the crowds gathered. So here there, these crowds are all gathering about this nut brother of mine and son. And when they heard about this, they went to take charge of him. What do you mean, take charge of him, get him out of there and put him someplace to get help. Find a nut house and put him in it. Isn’t that crazy guys? Then in verse 31, then Jesus mother and brothers arrived standing outside, they sent someone into call him, and the crowd was sitting around him and told him, your mother and brothers are outside looking for him. What he said, Who are my brothers, my mother and my brothers. And he looked at those seated in the circle around him and said, Here am I’m brother, mother and brothers. Whoever does God’s will, is my brother and sister and mother. And once again, my friends differentiating between a physical family and a spiritual family. We have physical brothers. And we have brothers in Christ. That’s a spiritual bond that cannot be broken. And my friends, when you’re around people who know Christ Jesus, who know that Christ lives in you, there is a bond that is unbreakable. There’s a love for one another is they’re not. You don’t care whether black, white, green, purple or red. It doesn’t make an ounce of difference their brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, is that right or wrong?

And so there’s a physical brother, a physical family, and there’s a spiritual family. The true spiritual family is what is called the body of Christ. He is the head, we’re the body. The very moment that you come to Christ, the Spirit of God comes to indwell you that’s Christ in you your hope of glory, the Spirit of God then baptizes you into the body of Christ that you and him when he places us into the body of Christ, just like this body has many parts, you have many responsibilities. The finger is not gonna be a nose, the nose is not going to be an ear, the mouth is not going to be an arm. If you did, all you would have and this is what is happening in Christendom today is you got all the noses gathered together on Sunday blowing up a storm. And then you got all the mouths sitting over here babbling up a storm. And God said that is not what I called the body is meant for the body and all of your diversity to come together and find unity in the midst of your diversity. This body is not in conflict with one another. If My back itches in my said, my head says to my hand, scratch the back hand and say don’t want scratch your back. Don’t like the back. Back ripped me off. He said to love one another. And a nice talk about the body loves itself what’s about to do cares for itself. Cares for itself. And that’s where that’s what life is. That’s what the spiritual life is led by the head. This is the body, but the emphasis is on the head. Because without the head, this body is nothing. That’s why it says flesh counts for nothing, nothing. Nothing. Why doesn’t it count for anything? It’s going to be gone in a few years. And to be remembered no more. Stick your hand in a bucket of water and take it out and see how much it’s missed. But eternally, you and I have this marvelous life living in us. With that wonderful awareness of the fact that one of these days, whatever it might be, I’m going to leave this body. And when I do, I’m going to be present with the Lord. And I’m going to live with him for how long? Throughout eternity forever. This flesh counts for nothing. What is important is what’s going on spiritually in your life. You get fed physically, you get hungry again. You get fed spiritually, and you enter into eternal life. Well, let’s go on back to verse six. He said, Why don’t you go, big guy going in, get yourself killed. Again, it shows you the attitude of his own brothers and family. You had thought they’d have been believers that they weren’t. You realize folks that there was no one that was born again to the Spirit, such as you and me until the day of Pentecost. And that means when the disciples were walked with Jesus and followed him to where he was going, we’re not born again until the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came to do something that had never come to do before and that’s indwell permanently a believer. In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit came upon believers and then departed them. But when Jesus came to die, so that he could be raised again. He came to give us eternal life.
