Classic Christianity – The Book of John P48 (05-24-23)
Natural Man CanNOT Understand The Things Of God, It Must Be Revealed By His Spirit
~ In the last days, we are told that knowledge shall increase. And to understand that knowledge (All Knowledge) requires the Holy Spirit. Bob continually reminded us that we are to listen to the teachings of the Holy Spirit, and not men, for man can be teaching us wrong and be in error without even realizing it, even if the intentions were good. This goes for everyone. For many know what the word of God says, but few know what it means. We are told the Spirit would guide us into ALL truth, not just some Truth.
~ “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Daniel 12:4
~ The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:14
~ “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:13
~ “Well, let’s all turn together, to the Gospel of John. Guys before we get started, we are coming on up, I think a very, very special time of the year, when we do have an opportunity to pause and to give thanks for some of the things that we have to give thanks for, for the many things that we have to get thanks for. Because in reality, every air, every breath that we take, every bite of food that we take our very life really is because of the mercy of Christ Jesus. And so many times this is forgotten, isn’t it? And so many times that you have people who don’t know Christ Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, that they do not understand those of us who do. And we just have to realize that is true, natural man does not understand spiritual things, and natural man does not understand spiritual man. It’s just that simple. And we have to understand the truth of that. That is we go through life, that what separates us from the world around us, is the truth that we possess. And all through the Scriptures, you hear Jesus talking about truth and truth and truth. And I cannot emphasize enough guys that until we grab a hold of what truth is, we’re going to be stumbling for the rest of our life, as it says, on every wave of doctrine, and not having stability in our lives in which we live.” ~ Bob George

Well, let’s all turn together, to the Gospel of John. And I cannot emphasize enough guys that until we grab a hold of what truth is, we’re going to be stumbling for the rest of our life, as it says, on every wave of doctrine, and not having stability in our lives in which we live.
I was at a meeting Tuesday, with a group of men and one guy there was having all kinds of problems and trials and tribulation. And quite frankly, I, although his story was sad, he was on a pretty good pity party. And he invited all of us to come to the pity party. And most of us didn’t want to come. But there are a few that did. But we kept talking about and this guy literally is, claims to be a born again Christian, continues going to the Catholic church that he goes to, and is just a miserable life. And he keeps talking about and the whole group talks about, well, we prayed and we prayed and I prayed and I prayed. What’s wrong in my prayers, and pray and pray and pray. And I really got sick of listening to this. And I finally had to say something and why did they, the guy that was heading it up, said, Bob, you look like you’re about ready to say something I really was looking like I was about ready to explode. And I said to them, you know, God gave us two ears and one mouth, and he wants us to use it proportionately. And I do not for the life of me understand how anybody with any intelligence in their head thinks that you’re going to grow by talking to God, at the exclusion of listening to what God has said to you. When I’m talking if I don’t know anything, it didn’t very impressive to anybody, including you, let alone God. And if I do not know what God has said to me, just how important is my words to him? And we put all of the emphasis on praying and praying and praying and I’m not against prayer. I just did it. But I pray what God has taught me. I’m not praying my own stuff. I’m praying what God has taught me. Because I like you have taken time in my life to absorb this book. I know what’s in it. And I know the meaning that God has given to us as to what’s in it. Because I have have relied upon the Spirit of God to reveal it to me because I cannot and do not have the intelligence to understand the mind of God on my own. How am I going to comprehend God, for goodness sakes? I can’t even comprehend a good professor, let alone God. And all we talk about today is what we’re talking to God and talking to God and praying and praying and praying and I said to that, dear man, sir, you’re gonna have to quit praying and start listening. You’ve got to hear the Word of God. Well, I don’t I don’t study the Word of God. I say, I know you didn’t have to tell me that. I know you didn’t study and I’m listening to you. And we sit around and just talk about those kinds of things. And guys, I don’t want to sound like someone who’s anti prayer. I’m not I talked to God all the time. But that is not what is important. I think if someone was observing the conversation between God and me and me and God, I think they could figure out which one is the most important. Would you be able to figure that out in a hurry? Which one do you think has the best thing to say? Him or me?
I remember as a kid, my dad, and I loved my dad. I lived in a generation where our fathers spend very little time with their kids. What we see going on today was unheard of in my generation, fathers are playing ball their kids take never heard of such a thing my dad worked. In my remember, it’s a my dad was sitting, he is an attorney sitting at the dining room table every single night, examining abstracts for the land loan, the savings and loan company. And we as children had to be quiet. We didn’t have television. But we had to be quiet. Why? Dad was working. But I honored that man and respect him more than any person on the face of the earth. I remember one time in my life and my dad out playing basketball with me. And some people say, Oh, woe is me, that didn’t play with her. I didn’t expect him to play with me, I had other kids to play. I expected him to be my dad. Now, today, I’m glad that the father’s today are getting more involved with their kids. But I’m just saying that whether you’re involved with them or not, we ought to be honoring our parents. And we ought to be thanking God for what God has given us in regard to our parental guidance that we had growing up.
And in this land in which we live, a lot of times, we’ve lost respect. I was telling Bob Davis the other day that when I grew up, we had respect for women. If I was on a bus, or a train, or in a doctor’s office, and a woman came in, and there weren’t any seats, we were trained to get up and give a seat to a lady. Weren’t you? That’s the way you’re trained. Why? Because you respected a woman. You respected your elders, if I got was on the same day, on a bus, a train in a doctor’s office, walked in, all the seats were taken. And an older person walked in. I got up and gave them my seat. Why? They were an elder. I’d do that today. If I could find anyone older than me. But we had respect, we were taught to respect elders to respect women, there was a place for a woman and she wasn’t a trashcan. She wants to be respected and honored. And that’s gone. So many times it’s gone. You don’t even hear those things anymore. Today, you walk into an office of a kid sitting narrow, lay down on six seats. We’re not training our children to honor and respect their respect for the law. We’re policemen Oh, no, but I spected the law did you learn I was taught to respect the law. Are they always right? No. But how can you respect them when every time you have a court case people are tearing them down and knocking them down? And tell them how crooked they are. So you respect the thieves and deny the police. You respected the president. I don’t imagine that any of you have had too much difficulty comprehending that I just may be a Republican in my political persuasion. I don’t think you’d have much difficulty with that. But I want to tell you outside of his moral issues that he faced, President Clinton was a good president. And I never knocked him. Didn’t like what he was doing. But he was a good president. George Bush is a good president. Whether he’s good or bad honoring, why because of the office that he holds. We should be growing up with respect, honor and respect for positions for women. For elders, for people that are due in honor of the respect in which we have Thanksgiving, we come to celebrate Thanksgiving today. There should be a certain honor for your grandparents if you’re going to visit them or your parents or whoever it might be a certain honor and respect and a grattitude for the fact that they brought you into this life, you wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for your mom and dad. As some of you may have had some pretty lousy parents. But I’ll tell you, when you lose them, you’ve lost something precious, whether they’re good or bad, you’ve lost something precious, you know that, and so do I. But we’re not taught to honor people. And to me, I think as Christians, we ought to start getting back to the realization that these things are important. They’re important things for us to understand that there are people that are worthy of honor, not because maybe they’re nice or good or bad. That’s not the issue. It’s because they’re your parents. It’s because they’re your grandparents, It’s because they’re the President of the United States, or they hold an office or whatever it might be that is worthy of honor. And I think as Christians, we need to start teaching our children some of these things. Wouldn’t you like to get back to those days guys? To get back to the days when people honored and respected each other? Well, how are we going to get back there? The only way that I know that to ever get back is to get back to the truth of Christ Jesus, and to get back to the teachings of Christ Jesus because even though in my family, I do not think that mom and dad in fact, I knew were not what I know today is a born again believer. I know that is not true, because ultimately led them to Christ. But they were deeply religious people. And they were church going people, people went to church back where I grew up in Indiana, that just what you did on Sunday. And so they were church going people they honored God didn’t know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, but certainly didn’t deny him. But they were godly people. My dad was probably one of the most moral men that I’ve ever known in my life. He is a frustrating example to me, didn’t understand how anyone in the world could be that moral I wasn’t. But he was a good man. And honoring. And even though he’s been dead since 1969, there’s hardly a day that goes by, I don’t wish I could pick up the phone and call Dad, just talk to him. See how he’s doing. He’s not here. But I honored him when he was here. I have no regrets about my relationship with my parents while they were here on this earth. We were taught to do that. You got to teach people.
And Jesus is our teacher. It’s why they call him rabbis teacher. And he came to teach us things. And the first thing that we’ve been studying, when he came to this earth is to teach us who he is, and who he was. Because he was about to do something for us, that we could not do for ourselves that he wanted us to understand so that we too, could be whole, instead of this half man that we were born in. And so as we’ve studied through the book of John, we’ve begun to understand some of the teachings of Christ and some of the reasons that he was coming here and there was unbelief. And he, he healed this blind man from birth, who was blind from birth and gave him sight and all the religious world at that time who were full of knowledge, but not biblical truth. They knew what the Old Testament said, but they didn’t have a clue what it meant. Maybe they too, were spending too much time talking instead of listening.

Christ Jesus came to this earth to reveal the meaning of the word of God, they already knew what it said. The Old Testament saints back in those days practically had the Old Testament memorized. So they would beat any of us, in a knowledge of what is said they just didn’t have a clue what it meant. And that’s what Christ came to do was to show us the meaning of the word of God. And so when he declared declared himself and these people were declaring the fact that Jesus was, was God, finally, they picked up stones, as we said, they were so lovingly to do picked up stones and and Jesus said to them, I’ve shown you many great miracles from the Father which of these two stone me? And they say, we’re not stoning you for any of the miracles. But for you, a mere man, you’re claiming yourself to be God. Now, if God came to this earth for the purpose of us having a knowledge as to who God is, and having a knowledge of how you get saved, in the event you understand that we’re lost in it pretty important to know who’s talking to you? And Jesus wants us to know who’s talking to you.
How many of you last night saw the television program on religion that was I forget what channel was on and ABC, that program, you had all kinds of people on there. And you had some pretty good born again, believers on there. And then you had some real smart guys. And I tell you any religion that says that you only one way to get to God, I don’t want any part of that. And I talked to him, he didn’t hear me but I was talking to him on the television screen there. And I said a few things to him, it’s probably a good thing that he didn’t hear. Well as a man with a stone head, and a stone heart, and no knowledge at all as to who Jesus is, even though he mentions the name of Jesus. Jesus doesn’t want us to just be walking around saying, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, he wants to know who that Jesus is. He wants you to know who he is. And he wanted you to know who he is. And that’s why he went through these things with these people. You’re a mere man, you’re claiming yourself to be God, we have no doubt at all as to what Jesus and who Jesus was claiming he was. They heard him loud and clear, claiming himself to be God.
As we said last week, there’s only three options to that either he was an imposter, knowing full well that he isn’t God and yet claiming he was, or else he was a total madman who thought that he was God, when indeed he isn’t which attuning to be a looney tune. Or he’s God, a man making that kind of a claim is either an imposter. Or he’s a looney tune. Or he’s who he claims to be God, you cannot have any other option on that. You say, Well, he’s a good teacher, how can a looney tune be a good teacher? How can an imposter be a good teacher? Those are not qualifications for getting hired in the Dallas educational system is to be a looney tune or an imposter. He claimed himself to be God, these people heard him claim who he was claiming himself to be God, and are picking up stones to stone him. Now he answered this in a strange way. He said, Is it not written in your law? That in the in the Old Testament and psalms that I have said that you’re god’s? Now again, in England, what do they call some of those people? Lords, don’t they? Lord, Baron Lord, this Lord this it’s another name for ruler. And so he’s saying that they’ve called you gods, and if they call them Gods or rulers, to whom the Word of God came, and the Scripture look at this, folks, cannot be broken. Do you think Jesus testified to the fact that the scripture is inerrant and cannot be broken? She just said it, the scripture cannot be broken. So we know when we have in our hands, we’ve got the word of God. And he says, if those Scriptures said, What about the one whom the Father said apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, I’m God’s Son? Don’t believe me, unless I do, unless I do what my Father does. But if I do it, even though you don’t believe me, believe the miracles if you’re not gonna believe, these testimony that I’m giving about myself, which is backed up by watching and seeing the works of God, well then believe but the miracles that you’ve seen, that you may know and understand. Does God want you and me to know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father to know that about Jesus? Do you think Jesus wants us to know and understand he just telling us, I want you to know and understand that when you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father, I want you to know and understand that it is not narrow for me to say, there’s no other way to heaven, except through me. That’s not narrow. It’s just plain truth. You may not want to believe it. But your lack of believing of it is not going to help you on Judgement Day. Because I am telling you that I came from the Father, no one has seen the Father except the only begotten Son of the Father, who is at the Father’s side, I am God. And I am telling you that I was sent by God the Father to this earth to show you and to tell you and to help you to come alive spiritually. And I want you to know and I want you to understand that the Father is in Me and I am in the Father.
And again, after all of his testimony. They tried to seize him, to stone him to death. Isn’t that something, looking God squarely in the face, seeing the most loving man that ever walked on the face of this earth, a man that had wisdom coming out of his mouth that they would stand and say, I’ve never heard words like this before in my life, I do not understand this. And yet standing and looking in his face, and wanting to seize Him, and to stone him to death.
We have people today, in the same boat, you can sit and listen about Jesus. The only difference between them then, and us now, is you could stood in front of him and see him, but the same words coming out of his mouth than are coming out of his mouth now through His Word. The only difference is you’re not looking at him. You’re just hearing what he said to them, meaning this is also applicable to you. What are you doing with it? You ignoring him yawning and saying, Well, maybe next week? Or is your heart open to the fact of saying maybe if this Jesus is saying something about himself that I don’t know. And he’s also said something about me that I’ve been ignoring, maybe I’d better get busy and quit ignoring what he’s saying about me. And to come to truth, and be saved.
Jesus went back across the gorge Jordan to a place where John had been baptizing in the early days. And here he stayed, and many people came to them. And they said, though John never performed a miraculous sign. All that John said about this man is true. It’s not only am I hearing this from Jesus, but I heard it from John talking about this man. And everything that John the Baptist said about Jesus is true. And in that place, it says, many people believed in him. Folks are testimonies about Jesus is invaluable. Because many times we talk to somebody about Christ Jesus, and they don’t respond. And then another time they hear somebody else talking about Christ Jesus, and they say, that’s the same message that John told me. That’s the same message that ole Bill was telling me. And they respond.
I remember a number of years ago, when I was working as the evangelism director and developing this, I found a campaign working down at First Baptist Church, and we were doing a campaign down there. And training people continually. We trained hundreds of people during this campaign. And I remember that this one girl came in, and a very cute girl, very nice girl had two beautiful little children. And she came to the Lord was going through the training. And one, after the training was over, sat down with me one day and was talking about the fact as to how she and her husband were divorced. And she said that she realized that she hadn’t been the best wife in the world, and he had been the best husband in the world. And she said, I have since I’ve come to the Lord, I’ve been wondering, was this a mistake that I made? And, and and you know, maybe, maybe we ought to get back together something. And so I said, Well, let me ask you a question is, has he remarried? No, I don’t think so. But I don’t know. I’ve heard from him. I think she said four or five years. I’ve heard from him for five years. I don’t know whether she’s married or not. And I said, Well, why don’t you see if you can get a hold of him and at least talked to him about the Lord, tell him that you’re not calling to be getting the marriage back together, but calling to be reconciled. God didn’t say I don’t want all men to be reconciled one to another. So you may not want to get remarried, but at least let’s be reconciled and be friends. And so she she didn’t know whether she could do that or not. But she was open. She said, I don’t know what’s going on inside me because I haven’t had this in five years. But all of a sudden, I’m just feeling like maybe got these kids here, we ought to get back together.
So it wasn’t too many days later that I called and said, Mr. George said you’ll never believe what happened. She said I the only person that I knew that might know where he is or was is his grandmother. They were very close. So after we left had the seminar was over on Saturday on Sunday, I called the grandmother and said, you know, talk for a while and finally said Do you happen to know where the husband is? And she said, Well, yeah, see you sitting right here that the table, talking to me. Would you like to talk to him? Well, yeah, I got on the phone started talking to him, talking to him that I don’t know why I’m calling outside of the fact that I feel that we should be reconciled. We have children together, you haven’t seen them. And I’ve come to Christ. And I know Jesus as my Lord and Savior. And I’ve come to know the forgiveness that was in Christ Jesus for me, and I want you to know that I’ve forgiven you. And this guy says, I don’t know what the heck’s happening. He probably didn’t say, heck, when you see, I didn’t know what was happening. He said, I go to work. He was an auto mechanic, and I’m under a car and here’s some guy babbling to me about Jesus, under the car with me. And he said, I go into inside to check out somebody, there’s somebody standing there at the counter telling me about Jesus. And now, I’m talking to you in five years, and you’re telling me about Jesus. So, I don’t know what’s going on.
We were going to do another seminar the following week. I said, Why don’t you call him back and ask him to come to the seminar? Said, Okay, she called him a week later, the seminar showed up. Here he was. The little kids just so happy. You couldn’t believe how happy they were to see their daddy. He came to Jesus. About three weeks later, I’m married. I got teenagers today. Back together. What happened? Testimonies; those guys under the cars, we’re talking about Jesus, he didn’t come to Jesus, but some was registry. person standing at the counter is talking about him didn’t come to Jesus was registering. But finally, somebody said something about Jesus. And it all started registering. That’s why your testimony is never without never such a thing as a failing testimony. There’s never such thing of sharing Jesus with somebody and having a failure. That’s why results are never in our hands. Results are always in the hands of God. All he wants us to do is to be available to just to communicate truth to people. And those kinds of stories are multiplied all over the world when people get available to Christ Jesus.
