Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P46 (02-03-25)

A Born Again Believer Will Be Set Apart Directly by God

~ “Just as you who formerly disobeyed God have now received mercy through their disobedience, so they too have now disobeyed, in order that they too may now receive mercy through the mercy shown to you. For God has consigned everyone to disobedience so that He may have mercy on everyone.”

God has consigned everyone to disobedience so that He may have mercy on everyone. That is key. Everyone has been disobedient, therefore He has extend mercy towards everyone today. For we are ALL in the same boat, lost to begin with, without the Holy Spirit living in us. And He gives Life, by the Holy Spirit coming to live inside the True believer, to those that place Faith in Him. That was God’s decision, not ours, of the plan of salvation. Jesus took away everyone’s sins at the cross, (that was his mercy given to everyone), and offers life to EVERYONE, who places Faith in Jesus and what He did on the cross for them. No one pushes God’s buttons and causes God to forgive them. It’s a lie of Satan to keep asking for ongoing forgiveness to God. God set this plan in motion and did it without any consultation by anyone. Now we are to simply accept Jesus for who He is, God in the flesh, to have done on the cross what could not be done by anyone else, take away the sins of the world, and gives eternal Life immediately to a person who places Faith in Him. That’s His plan of salvation. We can’t work for it, we can’t earn it, we can’t do anything except thank Him for it. And now we are made one body, in His body, the Body of Christ Jesus all those who are in Christ.

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

~ I ask then, did God reject His people? Certainly not! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not reject His people, whom He foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says about Elijah, how he appealed to God against Israel: “Lord, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well”?

And what was the divine reply to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”

In the same way, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if it is by grace, then it is no longer by works. Otherwise, grace would no longer be grace.

What then? What Israel was seeking, it failed to obtain, but the elect did. The others were hardened, as it is written:

“God gave them a spirit of stupor,

eyes that could not see,

and ears that could not hear,

to this very day.”

And David says:

“May their table become a snare and a trap,

a stumbling block and a retribution to them.

May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,

and their backs be bent forever.”

I ask then, did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery?f Certainly not! However, because of their trespass, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel jealous. But if their trespass means riches for the world, and their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their fullness bring!

I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry in the hope that I may provoke my own people to jealousy and save some of them. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? If the first part of the dough is holy, so is the whole batch; if the root is holy, so are the branches.

Now if some branches have been broken off, and you, a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others to share in the nourishment of the olive root, do not boast over those branches. If you do, remember this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.

You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” That is correct: They were broken off because of unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He will certainly not spare you either.

Take notice, therefore, of the kindness and severity of God: severity to those who fell, but kindness to you, if you continue in His kindness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut from a wild olive tree, and contrary to nature were grafted into one that is cultivated, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!

I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you will not be conceited: A hardening in part has come to Israel, until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:

“The Deliverer will come from Zion;

He will remove godlessness from Jacob.

And this is My covenant with them

when I take away their sins.”

Regarding the gospel, they are enemies on your account; but regarding election, they are loved on account of the patriarchs. For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable.

Just as you who formerly disobeyed God have now received mercy through their disobedience, so they too have now disobeyed, in order that they too may now receive mercy through the mercy shown to you. For God has consigned everyone to disobedience so that He may have mercy on everyone.

O, the depth of the riches

of the wisdom and knowledge of God!

How unsearchable are His judgments,

and untraceable His ways!

“Who has known the mind of the Lord?

Or who has been His counselor?”

“Who has first given to God,

that God should repay him?”

For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.

To Him be the glory forever! Amen.

Romans 11:1-36

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “A born again believer does not belong in bars. A born again believer does not belong drunken being in a drunken state. A born again believer is separate from that. Those are just two things I’m talking about. You’re separate from that. A born again believer should be honest. That separates you from the world. And yet, many times we have one foot over here in the world and one foot over here in Christ, and we wonder why we’re a double minded man that is unstable in all ways. There comes a point when you come to Christ where you say, I’m going to put that stuff aside. That’s the things of the world. I’m putting them aside, and we’re going to start walking in a newness of life. My main thrust and concentration is going to be on getting to know Christ and growing in Christ, I’m going to forget the old buddies that all they want to do is to go drink and play and all that stuff, and I’m going to get myself some new friends. I didn’t have to do that when I came to Christ. I automatically lost my friends when I became a Christian. So I didn’t have to get rid of them. They got rid of me, and if they still wanted to be hanging around me, I’d say, there’s something wrong with me, but I didn’t want to be back in the bars again. I had no place in the bars again, and when I say again, it’s because I spent a lot of time there. I didn’t know there was a coffee shop in California until I became a Christian. And so I know what that is, and I know that when I came into Christ, a relation with Christ, Jesus, he was saying to me, you don’t belong there anymore. You don’t belong there anymore. I thought many times prior to that, I used to work with the Santa Monica freeway in California. I don’t know whether you know it or not, you come down one freeway and then Hollywood freeway splits, or the Santa Monica freeway splits. One way was going home, and I always remember the struggle I had on St Patrick’s Day. One way took me home, the other way took me to O’Malley’s. That was no struggle before coming to Christ, I just went to O’Malley’s. Didn’t matter what Amy thought, didn’t matter where that hurt her. That’s where I went. And I can remember, after coming to Christ, going to that crossroads, and it never even entered my mind to go to O’Malley’s anymore, I’m going home where I belong. And folks, that is the sign of a born again believer. You cannot live totally infatuated with the world and infatuated with Jesus at the same time you can, but you’re going to be a double minded man that’s unstable in all ways. And I believe it’s the same way with the church. I don’t think you can blend in all of the stuff that everyone says the kids like, the issue is that’s not what church is. Church is for the purpose of not entertaining youth or entertaining adults. Church is for the purpose of proclaiming the good news of Christ Jesus. You can get all the entertainment you need in school. And that is one reason why we have never gotten into all of the programs that you have to build a big church with.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:29

Somebody called one time and said the pastor got up in a pulpit and said, Don’t read this book, Classic Christianity. It sold out. That’s all you had to do to get people to buy it. Just tell people don’t read it, and that will cause people to want to go buy it. So basically, the the rejection of the Hebrew caused the exception of the Gentile. Now he says, I’m talking to you Gentiles. So he wants to, once again, clarify who he’s talking to. I’m talking to you Gentiles in as much as I’m an apostle to the Gentiles. I make much of my ministry in hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and to save some of them. It was God Paul’s desire, above all things, that his people would come to know this Christ is their Messiah. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world. What will their acceptance be? But life from the dead? If the part of the dough offered as first fruits, is holy, the apostles, then the whole batch is holy. If the root is holy, so are the branches. In other words, if they’re set apart, the whole batch is going to be set apart. The root is set apart, and so are the branches. Now, if the branches, if some of the branches have been broken off, and you though a wild olive shoot, so that’s how God identifies you and me to all of us. How many are Gentiles in here? Not most of us. You know what God calls us affectionately, wild olive shoots. Now, I guess that’s a little better than dogs, but it still is a designation of our heritage. If we want to go back to our roots, it isn’t real pleasant, idol worshiping Gentiles. So if you if some of the branches have been broken off, and you though a wild olive shoot have been grafted in among the others and now sharing in the nourishing sap of the olive root, don’t boast over those branches. Why did he say that, folks? Because what were the Gentiles doing? Boasting. You’re going to see passages in here. You’re going to see in verse 18, don’t boast. You’re going to see in verse 20. Don’t be arrogant. You’re going to see in other passages. Don’t be conceited. Why? That’s what we were becoming. We were all puffed up over the fact that, hey, we’re accepting and they’re not. He’s trying to negate that attitude.

So he said, Don’t boast over those branches. If you do consider this, you don’t support the root, but the root supports you. You will say, then branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in, granted, but they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Don’t be arrogant. Be afraid, For God did not spare the natural branches. He won’t spare you either. Now some people take that say, Oh, that’s a loss of salvation. He is just merely saying to the Gentile world, don’t get all puffed up on being a Gentile. He could get rid of you the same way. Now, did he get rid of the Hebrews beyond repair? No, he said, I could do the same with you. He didn’t say, well, he just said, I could. Now, guys, let’s go back for a minute to 13th chapter of Matthew, If you’ll turn back to the 13th chapter of Matthew. Now, here again was Jesus talking to the Hebrew crowds that he was talking to. You all got it the same day, Jesus went out of the house, and he sat by the lake, and such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it while all the people stood on the shore. Then he told them many things, in parables, saying, a farmer went out to sow his seed as he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. In other words, a hard path ate it up. Some fell on rocky places where it didn’t have much soil, it sprang up quickly because the soil was shallow, but when the sun came up, the plants were scorched and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seeds fell on good soil, where it produced a crop 100, 60, 30 times what was sown. He who has ears, he said, let him listen. Then his disciples came to him and said, Why do you speak to people in parables? And he said, the knowledge of the secret of the Kingdom of Heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whenever whoever has been given more, he will also have abundance, and he who does not have even what he has will be taken from him. And this is why I speak to them in parables. Though seeing, they do not see, though hearing, they do not hear or understand. You hear what something says, but you do not understand what it means and why? Because you don’t allow the Spirit to reveal it to you. In them, he said, is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah. You will ever be hearing but never understanding. You will ever be seeing and never perceiving. Now here’s the root problem of that, for people’s hearts have become calloused. They hardly hear with their ears, and they’ve closed their eyes otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their hearts, and turn and I would heal them. Folks, we can get our hearts calloused. We can get it calloused by rejecting truth. We can get it callous by by saying, I’m going to walk with both feet. Double minded, man, I’m going to have one foot in the Lord, I’m going to have one foot in the world. And please don’t tell me to get my foot out of the world. We bring in the things of the world into our churches and say we’re being politically correct. Instead of being set apart, the church should be a set apart group. They should be set apart from the world, not looking like the world or sounding like the world, but set apart to be people who are there for the purpose of communicating the good news of the gospel.

A born again believer does not belong in bars. And that is one reason why we have never gotten into all of the programs that you have to build a big church with.

My feeling is you come and learn. It’s not my responsibility to teach your kids the Word of God. That’s your responsibility. It’s my responsibility to teach you, and then it’s your responsibility to teach your kids and to demonstrate that in your life in front of them. And so therefore, when I came to Dallas, I lost, to a degree, my kids in regard to educating because the church took over, and they were so engrossed and busy, busy, busy, that you never even hardly had time to talk with each other. And I swore up and down, if we ever had a church, we’ll never do that. We’re going to keep it simple, but we are going to, as Richard said, try to develop training programs to teach you how to become equipped for the work of ministry and. It, but we’re not going to be working you to death. You got enough to do with your families and with your schools and with everything else to be tied up every day of the week in a church function. As a matter of fact, when you’re out there in the marketplace that is the church, and there’s where you’re supposed to be, that’s where you reach people for Christ, not in here, out there.

Folks with this movie. This movie certainly is not for the purpose of leading people to Christ, necessarily. Certainly somebody could see what Jesus did, but the resurrection was hardly mentioned, rightfully so. He did intend to do that. The greatest opportunity you and I have is, do you realize that I don’t think there’s a person in the United States who hadn’t heard of Jesus because of this movie. I mean, you cannot turn on television that someone isn’t talking about this movie. I cannot believe it. Every place you turn there’s somebody talking about Jesus. We went into our Jewish delicatessen this morning. Guess what was on? Guess what on the television? Jesus. Said, You can’t even get him out of the Jewish delicatessen. You’re going to find people at the water fountains talking about Jesus. You’re going to find them talking at the desk about Jesus. You’re going to talk about every at the grocery store talking about this. And what an opportunity we have, as Christians, to be able to say, are you interested in learning more about the fullness of this gospel, and to hand out born free books, or to make an appointment with somebody, to sit down, have lunch with them and talk to them about Jesus. Invite them over to your home to talk about Jesus. Invite them here on Wednesday. But the opportunities are out there, and I think this is just God opening up a terrific opportunity for the Christian community to get involved in now realizing people are talking about Jesus, so why don’t you just tell them what you know about him, the film doesn’t, doesn’t depict the fullness of the gospel. It wasn’t intended to. That’s what I think we’re for. But what a wonderful opportunity we have, isn’t it, to be able to talk to people about this wonderful Jesus that we know.

Bob George 13:47
Well, he’s saying here in this, in this passage, he says, listen to what the parable of the sower means. So he’s going to talk about the fact of the different kinds of people that there are in the world that you and I are going to be dealing with When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it. Now, you see, there’s again, I hear it, but I don’t understand it. Have you ever talked to someone who said, I don’t know what you’re talking about? How many of you ever shared Christ with somebody and they just look at you like, what planet did you come off of? Have you ever all done that? He said, they hear it, but they don’t understand it. So when they don’t understand the meaning of what you’re saying to them, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is a man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. He receives it, but since he has no root, it never gets rooted. Now, folks, there are a lot of people like this. There are people that you share the gospel with. They don’t understand what’s being said. Satan just comes along and steals the seed. Are those people saved? No, there’s a person who hears the word he receives what you’re saying. In other words, I don’t have any problem with this at all what you’re saying, but I’m not going to take it for myself. It’s good for you. Now, folks, a lot of our Jewish friends are like this. It’s kind of the deal. Well, hey, if it’s good for you, thank goodness. If it makes you happy, I’m glad. I mean, really, that’s the thing. It’s good for you, but it’s not for me. How many of you ever run into people like that? Did some of you not run into anybody? Yeah, we run into people like that. You receive it, but since it doesn’t take root, you’re saying, I like, I like, what I’m hearing.

There was a gentleman and his wife in California when Amy and I were brand new Christians, and he was the owner of a large dairy there in California. And she was very active in Christian things. And when I was at a Campus Crusade one time, and she happened to be out there at the same time, she heard that I had done some speaking, and she was a head of a like a Christian Women’s Club, and she asked me if I would come and speak to that club. And I said, Sure, I will. Well, then she started thinking about it, and thought, I’ve never heard this guy. He may be horrible. And so she called the lady that ran the bookstore out of Campus Crusade, and said, You know, I’ve asked this guy to come and speak, and I don’t even know whether you can speak or not. And so the lady assured him that I was okay, but she said, I’ll send you a tape of one of his messages. And said, No, you need to do that. And said, No, I’ll do that. Well, her husband, a sweet guy. He had been at dinners with Billy Graham, Bill Bright they were contributors, but he had never accepted the Lord. He was thrilled to death that she did. He just was so proud of her. It was unbelievable. He really. He just loved the fact that she was out teaching Bible Studies and doing all this, but, but not for me, but he is around all these people he heard, but nothing took root. Well, she, on this one day, left to go out shopping, and she had bought him a little tape recorder and and so he had this tape recorder this one day, and he was looking around to try to see if there was a tape that he could put in to test out his tape recorder. And he couldn’t find any tapes. And all of a sudden, the doorbell rang, and it was a mailman, and the mailman was delivering this tape that the bookstore lady had mailed with my testimony. So he unwrapped it and said, Well, this is kind of unusual. Stuck the tape in the deal, and she said, about an hour later, she came home, and he was sitting there with tears streaming down his face, and she said, Honey, what in the world’s wrong? He said, nothing’s wrong. I just accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Now that’s how God could work. Prior to that time he heard, he accepted, but it took no root. But one day it did take a root.

Now so it had no root, lasts only a short time when trouble or persecution comes because the word he quickly falls away. The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of his life and the deceitfulness of his wealth choke it out, making it unfruitful. You become more preoccupied with gaining wealth and position than you desire to do of becoming a child of the living God. But the one who receives the seed that fell on good soil. Is a man who hears the word and he understands it now again, if he understands it, who gave him the understanding? Who gave him the understanding? The Spirit of God. Now, folks, we’re told in the scripture that anybody has enough faith to understand the gospel. Natural man can’t understand spiritual things. It’s foolish to him to so sitting around talking about big theological issues, to a to a lost man, is an exercise in futility, but he has enough faith to understand the truth that Jesus died to take away your sins, and He was raised from the dead to bring life to the dead. He can understand that. And the good soil is one who hears the word and he understands it, and as a result of understanding it, he produces a crop yielding 100, 60, 30 times what is sown. So you hear, you receive but no understanding. See, you hear, receive, and you put faith in Jesus, and you’re saved. The only group in here that are saved is the ones that he’s talking about, who understands the Word of God.

So Jesus told them another parable, that the kingdom of heaven is like a man who sows good seed in his field, and while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. And when the wheat sprouted and formed its heads, then the wheat also, the weeds also appeared. And the owner’s servants came to him, Sir, you didn’t sow, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did these weeds come from? An enemy did this, He replied. The servants asked him, Do you want us to go and pull them up? He said, No, because while you’re pulling up the weeds, you may, you may root up the wheat with them, let them both grow together until the harvest. Now, folks, that’s why we don’t go out and try to tear down ministries. You can certainly identify the error the teaching, but you’re not there to tear down. He says, leave that to the harvest.

Okay, now with that parable of the soils, you get a little better idea of what Paul is talking about here when he’s dealing with with the Hebrews, and with the fact that there were people that would hear the same way. Never take root. Some people who reject you hear all kinds of responses to the Gospel, just like you do today. So he says here, don’t be arrogant. Be afraid, For if God didn’t spare the natural branches, he won’t spare you either. Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God, sternness to those who fail but kindness to you, providing you continue in his kindness, otherwise you’ll also be cut off. And if they do not persist in their unbelief, they will be grafted in. If the Hebrews do not persist in their unbelief and turn by faith, they will be grafted in. So he has not stopped a grafting. He said, I will graft in anybody who comes to me by faith, either Hebrew or Gentile, slave or free. After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature, were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree. So is there a time when Israel is going to come back to Jesus in mass? It says, One of these days, they’ll look on the one whom they pierced, and every eye will see, every knee will bend, and they’ll confess Jesus Christ as Lord. I don’t want you to be ignorant. So he told us not to be boastful. He told us not to be arrogant. Now he’s telling us not to be ignorant. Don’t be ignorant. About this mystery. Remember the mystery this was, though, is that the Gentiles would come to Christ identically the same way as the Hebrews, that I’m going to make one new body out of the two, and we’ll explain that in detail in chapter 12. Don’t be I don’t want you to be ignorant about this mystery, brother, so that you mean so that you will not be conceited. So again, there he tells us, don’t be conceited. Israel has experienced a hardening in part, until the full number of Gentiles have come in. What is the only thing necessary for Israel to turn to Jesus? When the fullness of the Gentiles have come in. When is that going to occur? We don’t have a clue. But I want to tell you one thing, there’s sure a lot of exposure right now to Jesus all over the world. I don’t think it’s accidental, to be real, honest with you.

And when that occurs, when the final, the last Gentile has come in, all of Israel will be saved, as it is written. The deliver will come from Zion. He will turn godlessness away from Jacob. And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins. As far as the gospel is concerned, right now, it says there are enemies on your account, but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on the account of the patriarchs. For god’s gift and his call are irrevocable. He called them. Then he will call them now, he’ll call them again. Just as you who are at one time disobedient to God, look at this passage, folks, just as you who were at one time disobedient to God, have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience. So too they have become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy. To you, they’re going to see the mercy of God to the Gentile world, and they’re going to say, we’ve missed something, and they’re going to come to Christ, for God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all. There’s no one that ever came to Christ that was not disobedient, if we all have sinned and all have fallen short of the glory of God, all of us.

And then the doxology, Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God, How unsearchable are His judgments, his path beyond tracing out who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor, who has ever given to God that God should repay him, For from him and through him and to him, are all things to Him be the glory forever. Amen.

Well, folks, that’s a phenomenal chapter misunderstood unbelievably in the scriptures in regard to what our attitude as Gentile should be toward our Hebrew counterparts, and again, to be available to talk to the Hebrew people, just like we talk to Gentiles and not be afraid. Do you know that the average Hebrew person has much less of a knowledge of their even Old Testament Scriptures, and what you as a born again believer do and to talk to them, to be able to read to them Isaiah 53 and to ask them, what do they think? That means those are all things that could be used when you’re talking to Hebrew people or to Gentiles alike. But at any rate, in the end of times, it says that at the end of time that the gospel is going to go to Israel, there finally will be peace. But it’s only going to be when the Prince of Peace returns, and he will return to Israel, and every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, and then we’re going to have a brand new era ushered in. What’s that going to be like? I don’t have a clue. It’s going to be good, because Jesus is going to be at the helm. And I think whenever you and I, even in our personal life or in the collective life, ever have Jesus Christ in the helm, we’re going to see a wonderful existence. So those are the things we have to look forward to.
