Classic Christianity – Bob George – A Journey Through The Book Of Hebrews  Part 3 (05-21-25)

A Journey Through The Book of Hebrews Resting in Jesus Part 3

~ What is Faith?

~ “That God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19

Believing in what God has said is TRUE is FAITH in TRUTH. Jesus is TRUTH.

~ We have been given ALL authority to share that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ Jesus and is not counting anyone’s sins against them! That is fantastic good news that we are not to keep to ourselves. That is for the whole world to hear. That is for your family and friends to hear. Shout it from the rooftops! Tell it like it is! Be bold in Christ Jesus as we ought to.

You can’t have it both ways. Either Jesus took away the sins of the world, or the word of God is a liar. And God does not lie. “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” (John 1:29) Folks, that happened at the cross, for without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. It is finished! Yet people keep on putting Jesus back up on the cross over and over again, in order to do what He has declared is finished.

So that means ALL religion is a lie. ALL of Man’s teaching about ongoing forgiveness is a lie. Get rid of religion, for it is evil to the core. Quit following the doctrines of demons and rest in Jesus completely. That is Faith that pleases God.

…..
Book of Hebrews Chapter 11

1 Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see. 2 This is why the ancients were commended.

3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

4 By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous when God gave approval to his gifts. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.

5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he did not see death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.”b For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.

6 And without faith it is impossible to please God. For anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in godly fear built an ark to save his family. By faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, without knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he dwelt in the promised land as a stranger in a foreign country. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

11 By faith Sarah, even though she was barren and beyond the proper age, was enabled to conceive a child, because she considered Him faithful who had promised. 12 And so from one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

13 All these people died in faith, without having received the things they were promised. However, they saw them and welcomed them from afar. And they acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.

14 Now those who say such things show that they are seeking a country of their own. 15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 Instead, they were longing for a better country, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac on the altar. He who had received the promises was ready to offer his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “Through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.” 19 Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and in a sense, he did receive Isaac back from death.

20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning the future.

21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.

22 By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions about his bones.

23 By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after his birth, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were unafraid of the king’s edict.

24 By faith Moses, when he was grown, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to suffer oppression with God’s people rather than to experience the fleeting enjoyment of sin. 26 He valued disgrace for Christ above the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his reward.

27 By faith Moses left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw Him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch Israel’s own firstborn.

29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to follow, they were drowned.

30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days.

31 By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies in peace, did not perish with those who were disobedient.

32 And what more shall I say? Time will not allow me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets, 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the raging fire, and escaped the edge of the sword; who gained strength from weakness, became mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight.

35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused their release, so that they might gain a better resurrection. 36 Still others endured mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

37 They were stoned, they were sawed in two,f they were put to death by the sword. They went around in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, oppressed, and mistreated. 38 The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and hid in caves and holes in the ground.

39 These were all commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised. 40 God had planned something better for us, so that together with us they would be made perfect.

…..

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “And he says, we have so much more to say about this, but it’s hard to explain, because you’re slow to learn. You, in fact. Look what he’s saying here, guys, in fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers. You need some would teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. So he’s talking about that by this particular time in your spiritual growth, you ought to be in a position of being able to communicate to others these truths. But he said, Instead of that, you’re still needing to be taught the elementary truths again, you’re still in your ABCs. You need milk, not solid food. Well, who do you give milk to? Babies. Anyone who lives on milk is still being still an infant is not acquainted with the teachings about righteousness, but solid food is for the mature who, by constant use, have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. How do you learn to distinguish good from evil? Through constant use of the truth given to you by God, walking by faith in the truth and the wisdom given to you by God, not leaning on your own understanding. Now therefore, he said, Let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity. Let’s get out of your ABCs and start getting into maturity. Let’s get out of the one plus one equals two and start into some multiplication. Let’s grow. It’s time to grow. And he says, not laying again the foundation of repentance from Acts that lead to death and faith in God. Instruction about baptisms and laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment, and God, permitting, will do so. Saying, Why do you need to go over these things again? You ought. They ought to be a part of your life by now. If someone in your in your life as an example, if someone comes up and says, Oh, you can lose your salvation, it shouldn’t even be something you need to deal with. It isn’t even something to think about anymore. That. Already settled. That is a settled issue. My faith is in the one who saves me completely. That’s whom my Faith is in. I don’t need to talk about that anymore. Whether you’re saved by baptism, or whether you’re saved by that issue isn’t even worth talking about. If you’re saved by baptism, then you can’t be saved by Jesus. You gotta make up your mind which one you’re going to be saved by.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:29
When you’re born again, you are born again of the Spirit. You couldn’t be born again if the Spirit didn’t live in you, then what did it say? The Spirit did baptizes you into the body of Christ. So the Spirit comes to live within you, then places you into his body. And now you are all are a part of the body of what? Christ, who’s the head? The Pope? Jesus. There’s only one head Jesus. There are some people come along and say, pastor’s the head. If most pastors I know, include me, is the head, you’re in trouble. There’s only one Head of the Body of Christ, that is Jesus. We are now baptized, placed into his body. Now, folks, the church, the ecclesia, is not an organization, it’s an organism. It is a living organism, not a dead organization. As far as Jesus is concerned, there’s only one church. It’s not the Catholics. It’s not the church of God. It’s not the Baptists or the Presbyterians or the Church of Christ or all the cults that come up and say, We are the church. There’s only one church as far as God is concerned. That’s His church. His Church consists of Him and his body. It has nothing to do with where you plant your body on Sunday morning. It has nothing to do with how it’s organized. It only has to do with one thing. Are you born again? Have you come into a relationship with the Spirit of God, and the Spirit of God baptized you into the body of Christ? That’s the baptism that saves you. Christ comes to live in you. He places you into his body. Transaction done. Jesus does not come and whack off parts of his body. Finger, I don’t like the way you’re acting. Off you go.

Now, folks, when we understand that truth, then when people say, Should I go to church, is like saying, Should I go to body? Should I what? Go to body. Say? What in a word are you talking about? How could you go to body? You are the body. You are the church. If you’re in Christ, you are the body of Christ. It’s not that thing sitting down on the corner of walk and don’t walk. That’s a building that is not the church. That’s a building that houses some of God’s kids and a whole bunch that aren’t. And I want to tell you something, folks, when you go out and try to popularize that building, you know what you’re going to end up with? A whole bunch of carnal Christians. You go out and try to attract people through activities and big choirs and big bands and big, big, big, big, everything. You know what you end up with? A bunch of people that are there to get entertained, and you wonder why we got so much troubles in the church. I’ll tell you one thing. I’d rather have a group of this group right here, of people who know the Lord than it would 5000 people who don’t trying to play Christianity on Sunday morning. And we have to understand, folks, that’s God’s body. That’s the only one He’s interested in. His Church is not an organization. His Church is an organism. It’s you and me. And so I got as a part of this body, I’m a part of the body of Christ here, Demetri and his family is a part of the body of Christ in Russia. Then you got part of the body of Christ in China, and you got part of the body of Christ in South America. You got his body all over the place. And that’s what he meant with greater things will you do, because I go to the Father. While he was here, he was limited to one spot, but he said, when I go away, I’m going to spend my Spirit to you. You’re going to be my body. You’re going to be all over the place at one time. Now, folks, is that sobering to realize that if you are truly born again, and you are truly in the body of Christ? Is it sobering for you and me to understand we are literally a part of his body here on this earth? That’s a sobering thought, isn’t it, that he has loved you to the point of not only bringing you into a relationship with him, but enabling you to be an extension of him here on this earth where we live, and therefore, with the authority as a child of God and as a part of the body of Christ, to be able to, as it says in the scripture, bind what has already been bound in heaven. That means I have the ability, and so do you to go to any person on the face of this earth, and with all of the authority of heaven and earth, say, I got great news for you. God was in Christ reconciling you unto Himself, not counting your sins against you. Is that good news?

Now I want to tell you you’re not going to say that leaning on your own understanding, your own understanding is going to say, Boy, you better shape up your life, or God’s going to zap you real good. That’s man’s understanding, is it not? But see, we’ve got something greater to say to people. We got a wonderful thing to say to any person on the face of this earth. God was in Christ reconciling you. He’s already done that. He not only died for your sins, but He died for the sins of the whole world. Is that good news? Then can you ever, do you ever have the authority, as a child of God to go to someone and say, if you don’t get your life cleaned up, you’re going to go to hell? That’s what we said in Texas hail. Is that a true statement? Is that a true statement, that if you don’t get your you don’t get your life cleaned up, you’re going to go to hell? Do we have the authority to make that statement? No, God didn’t. That’s leaning on your own understanding. And what when we do say that, what we don’t say, but we mean is, and I’m glad. What do we have the authority to tell a person? Your sins have already been taken away at the cross 2000 years ago. Your only problem is you’re dead. If you’re not alive in Christ, then you’re dead. And if you’ve got a problem of death, there’s only one solution to that, and that’s life. And there’s only one source of life available to you and me, and that’s the resurrected life of Christ Jesus, unless you can come up with someone else that’s been resurrected.

Is that a good message? Yeah. Do we have the authority to say that to people? Absolutely. How do I know that? By faith. I know that by faith, in other words, my faith didn’t create that message. Faith enables me to enter into that message, and faith enables me to boldly communicate that message, because I know it to be absolutely true. Can I go out there to somebody under the authority of God and say, if you tithe, God will bless you? You give 10% God multiply it back 100 fold. Is that truth, you have any authority to say that? Not from God. As a matter of fact, what does God say? Anyone who teaches that godliness is a means to financial gain, in essence, says he’s a pervert. It’s perverted teaching to teach somebody that godliness is a means to financial gain. So I don’t have the authority to say that. By faith what I do have the authority to say is, when you invest in the proclamation of the gospel, there’s going to be rewards. What are your rewards? God’s Word does not return void. You know, it’s going to accomplish something. I say when I invest in a corporation, I don’t know where that thing’s going to make money or not depends on where the stock market’s going. Well, when I invest in God’s work, I don’t have to worry about it. If it’s truly God’s work, I know a return is going to be there. I’ve got a promise from God that that word will not return void. So what an investment that is. Can’t lose.

So let’s, let’s go on. He says, to leave these elementary teachings and and let’s go on to maturity. Let’s go down to Hebrews 6:12, okay. He says, first of all, I don’t want you to be lazy. I want you to imitate what we have in front of us. In regard to people who have exercised faith and seen how God honored that. These are people who, through faith and patience, inherit what have been promised to them. In other words, God made a promise to you. They believed that promise. They entered into that promise and then sought the reward that was already stated in regard to that promise. So he said, I want you to imitate that faith.

In regard to time, let’s go down to the 11th chapter of Hebrews, and then let’s just go through some of those passages. 11th Chapter is kind of the hall of fame, the Faith hall of fame. Let’s start by faith is be what is faith? It’s being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we don’t see. This is what the ancients were commended for. Now let’s go to to verse three. By faith, we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Now again, what does that do to evolution? It just It should just blow it out. That’s good way of putting it. We understand the universe was formed at God’s command. Now if you don’t believe that, what are you going to lean on? Your own understanding and in our deal, our government and people have spent literally billions of dollars through the year trying to disprove God in regard to how we got here. Why? Because they didn’t begin with the premise of the Word of God, that how we got here was at God’s command. The universe was formed at the command of God. So we don’t have to worry about whether evolution is true. So as you go to school, the young people go to school, and you’re taught evolution, why you can probably write what they want you to write down in order to pass a grade and then forget what you learned. Now I did that, whether it was evolution or not. That one was that was easy for me. I never I I was probably taught evolution, if it was I never learned it.

Now by four number four, By faith, Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. Cain was saying, No, I’ll get my own sacrifice. And Abel said, No, I’ll offer the sacrifice God told me to offer. By faith he was commanded as a righteous man. When God spoke well of his offerings by faith, he still speaks, even though he is dead. In other words, the speaking that he’s talking about is walk by faith. When God says, This is my sacrifice, then this is my sacrifice.

Let’s go to to five. We’ll just go right on down by faith. Enoch was taken from his life so that he did not taken from this life so they did not experience death. He could not be found because God had taken him away. But for before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. Now, what’s the only thing that pleases God? Faith and without faith, what? It’s impossible to please God. So we’re talking about again, faith, without faith, it’s impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. By faith, Noah, when warned about things not yet seen and holy fear, built an ark to save his family. So God said, Noah, build an ark. And what did Noah do? Well, he built an ark. Now you can imagine building this ark out in the middle of this desert land. You think you might get a little criticism on that. I mean, you say, what are you doing out in the middle of this desert Noah? Building a boat. Building a boat out there.

I had to laugh at. It’s kind of like Bill Gillum, and one of his recent books was telling the story, you know, he went to A&M, so he’s an Aggie. And you know how Aggie jokes are going around, tells the story of this Aggie was out there in the middle of this West Texas, just, just dry land and and so it was out there in his boat, just rowing away. And one of his one of his college buddies, A&M buddy, drove by in his car a long way away, and he yelled at him, said, What are you doing out there? Said, I’m I’m trying to get down to A&M. And he said, you stupid thing. He said, It’s guys like you that get put a bad reputation on this school doing an idiotic thing like this. For Lord’s sake, if I could swim, I’d just come out there and whip you up.

Well, here was, here was Noah out there in the middle of desert building a boat. So you can imagine, he got some comments, comments similar to that, but he believed God, and then the floods came, and that faith in God did what? What saved him. Didn’t create it. Did it. I mean, he didn’t sit there and say, I got enough faith to believe there’s water. It’s going to happen here. No, he didn’t say, God told him there’s going to be a flood. Build a boat. He built a boat and saved his life. Yeah saved ours too. Yeah. By faith, Abraham, when called to go to a place that would later receive as an inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he didn’t know where he was going. By faith, he made his home in the Promised Land like a stranger in a foreign country. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. You know, it’s interesting, isn’t it that the Hebrew referred to their God as, who? The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob? But isn’t it strange, you didn’t say the Abra the God of Abraham Isaac and Moses, because Abraham Isaac and Jacob were the heirs of faith. He was the father of faith and the heirs of faith. And what the Hebrews, at least in verbiage, was able to say is, My God is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, all men of faith. Abraham was the father, and they were the heirs. So their God is a God who rewards faith. Now it says For he was looking forward to the city with foundations whose architect and builder is God.

Verse 11 by faith. Abraham, even though he was past age and Sarah herself was barren, was enabled to become a father. Why? Because he considered him faithful who had made the promise. You notice, I don’t think Abraham said, No, that’s good promise, Lord, I’ll go do it. I think Abraham said, There’s no way. But Lord, with you all things are possible, so I’m just going to put my faith in you to provide what I know I couldn’t do myself. It was faith, and so from one man, and he, as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sands of the seashore. And all of these people were still living by faith when they died, they did not receive the promise. They only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, and they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on Earth, and people who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country, a heavenly one. And therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

Now, guys, we get into many, many other passages of Scripture, but what I want us to do is to go down to verse 32. He says, I want what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, and David and Samuel and the prophets who, through faith, conquered kingdoms. Now you look at this and say, oh boy, look at these guys. And this is an awful lot folks of what the so called faith movement camps on. Is, boy, this is what faith will do for you. Why these people had faith, and they conquered kingdoms and so can we. And they administered justice and they gained what was promised, who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames and escaped the edge of the sword, whose weakness was turned to strength and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies, women received back their dead, raised to life again. Now we stop there and say, Man, that’s that’s my kind of faith. I like that, and so I’m just going to camp on that and teach that to everybody that boy, if you got enough faith, you can route armies, you can you can raise people from the dead. Got people out there claiming to do that. I got so much faith that I can cause something to happen. Is that faith? That is not faith, folks, you, whenever you say, I got faith can cause something to happen, you’re deceived. You don’t have faith to cause anything to happen. You can only plug in to what’s already happening. But you do not cause anything to happen by your faith. You only enter in to what God’s already doing. But you see, we like this. We can say, oh boy, you get a lot of faith, and then are we not told that you just your problem is you just don’t have enough faith.

I will never again forget in one of our early days when we used to have our seminars out at Sunridge, I’ll never forget a guy by the name of George that came out there, and George was blind, and by the end of the conference, we sat there in the sharing session, and he sat there with tears streaming down his eyes as he had come to understand his identity in Christ Jesus, and the fact that he was a child of the living God, totally loved and totally accepted in the beloved in Christ Jesus, that all of his sins had been taken away so nobody could ever say again, your blindness is because of your sinfulness. He learned something. He learned who he was in Christ, Jesus, and in a flood of tears, sat there and he said, all of my life, I’ve sat in this church, and every Sunday, someone stuck a Bible in front of my face and said, If you had enough faith, you would be able to see. And all of my life, I have felt guilty because I did not have enough faith to be able to see. And now I understand that God can use me with blind eyes the same way he can with open eyes. We got a letter back from his mom not too long after that, where he had died about a year later, and said that was the happiest year of his life. He said he was full of joy and contentment as he went to meet his Lord, because he learned something who he was in Christ Jesus. This old stuff, if you had enough faith, Jesus said, If any of us had enough faith, the size of a mustard seed, we could move mountains. That shows me something about the size of my faith. It’s not real big. I don’t need a big faith. I got a big God, and that’s what we have to realize that it’s not the size of our faith. It’s the size of our God, because my faith does not create anything. My faith only enters into what’s already been created. So we like to read about this, but then we continue on. Here’s some others that here’s what happened to some others walking by faith.

Others were tortured and refused to be released so that they might gain a better resurrection. Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison. They were stoned. They were sawed in two. That’s an encouraging way to go. They were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskin and goat skin, destitute, persecuted and mistreated. The world was not worthy of them. In other words, get them out of here. They wandered in deserts and mountains and in caves and in holes in the ground. Sound like if you got big enough faith God really bless you. Is that the kind of faith you want? No, sir, no, I don’t like that faith. I like the other. You see, Faith did not create it was just, Bob, you’re going to be going through this in your life now you trust me in the midst of it, you’re going to be going through something else in your life, and you trust me in the midst of it, you may be jeered, you may be flogged, you may this over here. You may be reigning in kingdoms. It doesn’t make any difference what you’re doing. I want you to walk by faith in Me. That’s the issue. It isn’t that I’ve walked by faith. Everything’s gonna be wonderful. It’s a little hard to say when you walk by faith and get sawed in two. It’s like Amy has said many times in her life, that the true blessings because you sit down and say, Oh Lord, let me count my blessings. I got a nice home. I got this and this, no, but some of those are true blessings were the hard times, because it’s through the hard times, is when we realize we really do not have sufficiency in and of ourselves. It’s like with the song says, Let the weak say I’m strong because of what He has done for us. Let the poor say I’m rich because in Christ Jesus, you’re the richest person on the face of this earth, maybe not with material things, but you’re rich in inheritance. And so we have to realize that this thing called faith does not ensure us this glorious life that many people say is what the Christian life is. I really don’t think you could say it was very glorious. Or Peter could say that I was hung upside down on a cross praise God, or that Jesus could say I trusted my Father and I was crucified on a cross. Or the other apostles to say I trusted Jesus and I was killed for my faith, or the people going into the be fed to the lions during the Roman rule. What did their faith do for them? It enabled them to walk in joy while the world was feeding them to lions. It didn’t keep them from the lions. It kept them in peace in the midst of the lions. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in a in a fiery furnace. Did their faith keep them from the furnace? No, it just kept them from being burnt in the furnace. So you see, folks, this thing called Faith again, is not something that we use to manipulate God or that we use to manipulate our circumstances. Faith is faith in him in the midst of whatever my circumstances are.

Jesus Came to Save Sinners

Listen to the Salvation message today!

Stand on the firmness of truth. Don’t keep going back and forth. Thank Him that the forgiveness issue is settled.

Let’s pray together:

  • Lord Jesus,
  • I thank you for taking away my sins on the cross,
  • never ever to see them again.
  • Having done that, I now thank you for giving me eternal life,
  • through your resurrection.
  • I now receive that life.
  • And I am going stand in the fact that I am a child of the living God.
  • In Jesus Holy name I pray.
  • Amen

All believers are now brothers and sisters in Christ.
