Classic Christianity – Love One Another – 6-09-26

~ “A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34,35

~ When the body of Christ is hurting, we are to love one another. When someone in the body of Christ needs help, we are to help them in their time of need. If they need comfort, comfort them. If they need encouragement, encourage them. Also part of love is correcting them too, especially when someone is caught (trapped) in a sin. They need help. But we are to be careful that we don’t think of ourselves more highly than we ought, for we too could become trapped in a sin ourselves, without even realizing it. For example, there is the sin of idolatry that many have today that is so often ignored. Christians love their worldly idols, and have them in people, places and things. And if someone talks badly about their idol, they typically respond with anger themselves. This is how you know they or even you have an idol yourself. All of us were caught in the sin of idolatry. We all had or have our favorite idols today.

So love others with the same Love God has for you. Be patient with others. Extend grace to one another. Show kindness towards one another. Try not to lash out at people, and listen out first on all matters to another person if you have a grievance with them. For they may not even know what they themselves are doing. And if we lash out in anger ourselves, we tend to make matters worse. So allow the Holy Spirit to guide you on ALL matters, and allow His Love to flow through you.

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone. Luke 18:18,19

Jesus is God in flesh: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “Folks, in all of these admonishments to us, there’s a reason for it, and that is that we can have insincere love. We certainly can have a tendency not to hate evil, but to go along with it. As someone once wisely said, that they were led into the pizza parlor one day, and when they went in, it was so dark they couldn’t even see the tables. After a while, they were led to the table by someone, and after a while, they could see the checkered tablecloth, and after a while, they could read the menu. No one turned up the lights, they just got used to the darkness, and that is exactly what can happen to us, is we can get used to the darkness. Instead of hating the evil that is in the world and the consequences of it. We get used to the darkness, and so all of these admonishments that they have is for our good, be devoted to one another in brotherly love. In other words, treat one another as Jesus said, as you would have others treat you. And folks, if we would live by that rule alone, to do unto others as we would have others do unto us, Jesus said we would fulfill the entirety of the law. And so we’re told these are all reminders to us to honor one another above ourselves. Don’t think more highly of ourselves than we ought. God doesn’t have any heroes, he doesn’t have any biggies, and then some little ones. He just has children, and we need to realize that there aren’t any heroes in the Christian faith. We may sit around thinking we are, but as far as God is concerned, a man listening to the Lord who gives a cup of water in the name of Jesus is just as worthy as the man who preaches to 10,000 people in a coliseum. And so we need to understand those truths, and never to be lacking your zeal. Keep your spiritual fervor. The reason it’s saying that is because many times we can allow the things of the world to cramp in so much that we lose our spiritual fervor, don’t they? We lose, we get our eyes off of Jesus, and we get them onto our circumstances, and sometimes in this world our circumstances aren’t too swift, and so we need to understand that in the midst of adverse circumstances that we have the privilege of keeping our eyes upon Jesus, and as the song says, looking full in his wonderful face, and the things of the world will grow strangely dim in the light of his wonder and grace. It’s to live soberly, share with God’s people who are in need, and practice hospitality. It’s a, it’s a characteristic of a Christian, is to be hospitable, to care for those in need, bless those who persecute you. That’s an easy thing to do. We all do that don’t we, and why do we have to be reminded? Because we have a tendency to want to get even, and so we have to realize that, that that is a tendency, it’s a fleshly tendency to get even. And he says, “No, don’t persecute them, bless them. That’s what, not what Jesus did at the cross. Here, they beat him half to death, nailed him to the cross, and he said, “Father, forgive them, they don’t know what they’re doing. And so you bless those who persecute you, don’t curse them, rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn. In other words, to be sensitive to people’s needs, that is something that many times we guys have to struggle with more many times than women do, but it’s to be sensitive to the needs of other people, and to realize that we’re not alike, and to understand that we’re not alike, and to attempt to get to understand one another as much as we can, but to mourn with those who mourn, and to rejoice with those who rejoice, and live in harmony with one another. Don’t be proud, and be willing to associate with people of low positions. In other words, what in the world does it matter what a person’s economic status is? What God looks at is the heart of man.” ~ Bob George

We have been going through chapter by chapter and verse by verse of the book of Romans. I’m going to back up for just a few verses into chapter 12, where it talks about in verse nine that love must be sincere, hate what is evil, cling to what is good, be devoted to one another in brotherly love, honor one another above yourselves, and never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord, be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer, and share with God’s people who are in need, and practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you, and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn, live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position, and do not be conceited.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful what you do. What is right in the eyes of everyone, if it’s possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written, ‘It is mine to avenge. I will repay, says the Lord. On the contrary, if your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he’s thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you’ll be heaping burning coals on his head, and don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Folks, in all of these admonishments to us, there’s a reason for it, and that is that we can have insincere love. The reason it’s saying that is because many times we can allow the things of the world to cramp in so much that we lose our spiritual fervor, don’t they? Don’t be proud, and be willing to associate with people of low positions. In other words, what in the world does it matter what a person’s economic status is? What God looks at is the heart of man.

And so we’re told on there to don’t repay evil for evil, be careful to do what’s right in the eyes of everyone, and as far as it’s possible, as far as you’re concerned, to live in peace with all people, but to realize that not all people are going to want to live with peace with you, and so that means that it’s our responsibility, your responsibility to say I’m going to live at peace with people. If they don’t want to live with peace with me, that’s their problem, but I am going to live with peace with them. And so that is leaving all of these circumstances of life, these adverse circumstances of life that we run into. What this is literally saying is, leave those into the hands of God. If somebody needs to be avenged, God will do it. We don’t have to pay back, God will do it. And I have seen that happen numerous times in my life.

Now let’s go into chapter 13. Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. Now, why did God establish government? Because if man is not governed, we’ll kill each other, will destroy yourselves. You have to have organization, you have to have government. And so God established the institution of government. Now, as with everything else that God established, has man come along in some cases and perverted it? And is all government perfect? No, that’s because it doesn’t have any people running it who are perfect, and so we have to understand those truths. But the institution of government itself, it says, comes from God. So everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there’s no authority except that which God has established. Now, the authorities that exist have been established, it says, by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves, judgment from who? From the authorities. Now, people read that and say, “See, there, God’s going to get you. No, it’s not talking about God, it’s saying the government’s going to get you. Now, we have had in the past, we have had people in our assembly that talked about the grace of God, and you know all of these type of things, who were into this deal where you don’t pay income tax, and you’ve seen that on television, announced, and you’ve seen people talking about that, that you don’t have to pay income tax. There’s a little hitch down there where you don’t have to pay, and so they set out not to pay, and they probably are not going to have to pay very much with the salary they’re going to get in prison someday, but the issue is that you are rebelling against government authority. The government has to have, even though it is wasteful. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s wasteful because you have corruption upon men.

Read the other day where they cost the government $53 million to defend Timothy McVeigh. Now that’s that is unbelievable, but that’s part of it, but the issue is that is no excuse not to pay your income tax, because if you’re going to live in a country and you’re going to have a country that protects the country, then you need to have income tax, then you’ve got to have money to pay for those things, and a man that is rebelling against the government is sitting around saying you take care of it, I’ll get the benefits, but I’m not going to pay them, and God says that is a heart that needs corrected, and of course I told those people that their heart needed corrected, and so they corrected it and left, but the issue is I’m glad they did, because the issue is that if you’re living in this country, and there’s taxes to pay. Render unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and render unto God what belongs to God. You shut up and go home and enjoy your life. Why would you want to be sitting around petrified if the doorbell rang, and it’s an IRS agent? Why do you want to lead that kind of a life? It’s nonsense to sit around living in fear, and that’s what the scripture says, that as long as you’re obeying the law, you don’t have to worry about bringing judgment on yourself. I would hate to be sitting around worrying if everybody I met was an IRS agent, so.. so I’m just saying that if you’re in that thing, I beg you, cut it out and begin doing what you’re supposed to do as a citizen of the United States, and that’s pay your income tax and render under Caesar what belongs to him. Maybe someday it’ll get corrected where there won’t be any corruption in the government, but I think that’ll be when the Lord comes back and takes over. In the meantime, yes, there’s going to be corruption. Yes, there’s going to be waste, but the issue is that is the way the government keeps running, and hopefully some of those things will be taken care of through political means. But he’s just telling us, if you want to live a life free from fear and all of that type of thing, obey your government. Isn’t that simple? Rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Now, do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right, and he’ll, and he’ll commend you. It’s a simple thing. If you’re living under the laws of the land, live under them, for he who is God’s servant to do you good, but if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. And so a person who rebels and says, “I’m not going to do this, you’re going to end up someday in jail and experiencing the punishment for that. And so it’s just warning us, isn’t it? Strange that he should have to warn us 2000 years ago of what he knows is going to take place down through the ages. Therefore, in verse five, it’s necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment, but also because of conscience. Now, again, there’s a difference between a conscience and the Holy Spirit. You can program your conscience, can’t you? How many of you remember when, if you were a part of the Catholic Church, or knew about it, that it was a sin to eat meat on Friday? How many of you remember that? Yeah, well, is there anything in the Bible about eating meat on Friday? No, there’s anything in there, but somebody programmed your conscience to say if you eat meat on Friday, you’ve had it. You remember those days, you can program your conscience to the J___ that we’ve talked about in Israel, where on the Sabbath you’ve got your Shabbat elevator, and you get on an elevator, and you can’t push the button to the floor that you’re staying on, and because that would be constituted as work, and so you can’t work on the Sabbath. So they developed, somebody came up, thought it through, and developed an elevator that just automatically goes up the top floor, and then stops at every floor on the way down, and you can get off where you belong. You don’t have to push a button. How you get in your door, I don’t know, but at least you don’t push a button to the elevator. Maybe everybody sleeps in the hall. I have no idea, but those are things that you can program your conscience to convince people that that is wrong.

Bob George 14:23
So he’s talking about, but because of your conscience, there is also the case where the Holy Spirit of God can tell you what is right and what is wrong, and also program your conscience, and what He is saying to us is do right, if the government says something, do right. Now that’s the same thing that you run into with, as an example, pornography, and you’ve got Christians out there picketing 711 and all this type of thing, and the issue is that it is not against the law to sell pornography, is it? And so, if it’s not against the law, what are you picketing for? God called you an ambassador. He said your citizenship is in heaven, and the job an ambassador is, and if I was ambassador to France, was not to go over and to tell everybody how bad it was to go to Moulin Rouge and drink wine. It would be my job to represent the Kingdom of God here on this earth. Now, on the other hand, if the government came out and said that you had to look at pornography, you’d have a different story on your hands. It’s the same thing with abortion. If they ever came out and said you had to have an abortion, you would see me for the first time getting involved in political affairs, but it doesn’t say that. It says that you can have them. Now we’re in a position of influence, and now you’re in a position not of telling somebody that you can’t, but just what the scripture says, everything is permissible, but not all things are profitable, and now you’re in a position of influencing people to do what God would have you do, and so what happens to us is we get involved in all of these things, where the fact is that the government is not saying you have to do this, it’s just saying it’s saying it’s okay to do that. As far as the government is concerned, if it’s okay, then you got a choice, I can or I can’t. And that’s where influence comes in.

Did you guys see that deal about the God squad they talked about in the prisons, where they’ve closed that down? Isn’t that the most idiotic thing you’ve ever seen in your life now, they’re not saying that you can’t pray and you can’t have Bible study, but I guess you just can’t have it there. I don’t know what they’re saying on this, but there will probably be what took place at one of our prisons in California over grace, and I think that I’ve mentioned this to you before, but we went out to California a number of years ago and and went out to the prisons out there, and I don’t think the chaplain knew what he was doing when he invited us, because we went out there, and in one, one, maybe three hour session, changed the lives of those prisoners to understand grace, and there was a guy named Dave Dickey who wanted to follow up and go to those prisons on a regular basis and teach them grace. Well, the chaplain, after he heard what we taught, said, “No more, you can’t come in anymore.” And, and there was a, there was one big guy there, he’s a black guy, and he could hunt bear with a switch. I mean, he was huge, and he had had his life turned around. Sweetest guy ever was seeing your life. You loved him to death, and he organized a sit-down strike among prisoners to get Grace back into prison. And they had 100 and some men who sat out in the deal and would not go to their cells or anything else, and finally the warden got a hold of this and called the chaplain in and said, What is wrong with you? These are the only men in a prison that that are that are behaving properly, and they’re reaching out to people, and he fired the chaplain and let Dave Dickey come in and teach grace to the prisoners. So maybe that will happen over there, but it just shows you, doesn’t it, the condition of the world. So that’s that’s part of what we live with. Now he said, give everyone what you owe him. If you owe taxes, pay taxes. If revenue, then revenue. If respect, then respect, and of honor than honor.

Now we go to chapter 13 verse eight, and here we come to a very, very important theme through the scriptures. Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellow man has fulfilled the law. The commandments: do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet, or whatever other commandment there may be. So, in other words, he says all of them, whatever commandment there is, doesn’t make a difference what it is may be summed up in this one rule, love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.

Now, guys, we’re talking about motivation there. Now, under the law, you have the do nots. Now, what does it say about that? It says that Paul says I would not have known what in that particular case coveting was unless the law said do not covet, but when I read do not covet, law, the law seizing its opportunity, sin seizing its opportunity, stirred up every kind of covenant desire in me, and I died. Same thing would be true. I wouldn’t have known what adultery was until the law said don’t commit adultery, but when I read don’t commit adultery, sin seizing its opportunity stirred up every kind of adulterous desire in me, and I died. The power of sin is where? In the law we have. To understand, folks, that it says, “For sin shall not be your master because you’re no longer under law but under grace, which means that when you’re under the law, sin is your master. Are we together? Sin shall not be your master. Why? Because you’re no longer under the law but under grace, which means when you’re under the law, sin is your master. Now, guys, how many times in our life do we get mastered by some form of sin? There are people who are mastered by sexual sin, whether it be porno, which then leads to other realms of sexual sin. You can have adulterous thoughts. He says that a man looks at a woman as lust in his heart, he’s already committed adultery. So lustful thoughts can lead to lust, can lead to adultery, fornication. If you’re thinking about stealing, it can lead to stealing. All of these things we have to understand are a part of the flesh, and the flesh is rotten to the core, and the law stirs up that sin in the flesh. So we look at these things that the Bible says to us, and if you’re trapped in some sort of a sin or mastered by some sort of a sin, it could be worry. You can get mastered by anxiety, can you not? Where you sit and are always anxious about what? tomorrow? What do you know about tomorrow? Nothing. Well, that’s not true. You do know one thing, if you’re a Christian, and that’s that your Jesus, that’s in your today, is already there. Outside of that, you know nothing about tomorrow. That’s why I said, why do you worry about tomorrow? You don’t even know whether you’ll be alive tomorrow. Today has enough worries of his own, because again, your emotions don’t know whether it’s happening or you think it’s happening. They’re just responding predictably to whatever you’re putting in your mind. Now, tomorrow is God’s country, isn’t it? You don’t belong up there, you don’t have any idea what’s up there. All you can do is think about all the bad things are going to happen tomorrow, and your emotions don’t know whether they’re happening or you think they’re happening. They’re going to respond predictably, and so the only thing that you have is right now. That’s all we have guys this moment, and that’s why I said live a day at a time. Obviously, that’d be a pretty stupid statement if he was talking about physically to live a day at a time. He’s talking about mentally to live a day at a time. You cannot worry about tomorrow, that’s God’s country. You can’t beat yourself up over the past, that’s over. Live today and today I can live worry-free if I just live today, because you cast your cares upon the Lord, for He cares about you. If you do that, now you can either cast your cares or stuff your cares, and we do them both, don’t we?

But most of us are stuffers, and we like to stuff our cares, and he says no, cast them, you’ve got to talk to someone, folks. That’s why these psychiatrists are making all the money they’re making by sitting there saying going to sleep while they’re listening to you, but at least somebody’s listening to me, so you got to talk to somebody, and the Lord says that’s what I’m there for, is to talk to. I’m your best friend. Cast your cares upon the Lord, let Him hear your prayers, let Him hear your requests, tell your weaknesses to Him. And so, as we go through these lives, and we find out that we do have human weaknesses, and he said to rejoice in those weaknesses, and the reason that I can rejoice in them is because my weaknesses are what keep me aware of my need for Jesus Christ. If I didn’t have any weaknesses, what would I need Jesus for? And so we want to get rid of our weaknesses. God said no, rejoice in them, because it will keep you dependent upon the one that you need to keep dependent upon. And so we’re dealing with this whole area of the law up against as a motivation, up against love as a motivation. So it’s not the case that I am not going to steal, because the Bible says don’t steal, but it’s the case that no, I’m not going to steal, because that wouldn’t be a loving thing to do. I talked to a lady at the conference out there that has had difficulty with stealing, and this was the first person that she had admitted this to, and she was very embarrassed about it, but the issue is that I believe, as I talked to her, and as I was thinking through, you know, you’re still under the law, there you’ve got a law that is keeping you mastered by sin, and so it is permissible for you to steal, but it’s not. Profitable, so matter of fact, it’s so unprofitable that you’ll go to jail. I said, you already have, so you see, God is not going to zap you, but the world will zap you, and that’s where it’s not profitable. So, the motivation for being honest is that’s the loving thing to do. It’s, it’s not loving for me to steal from, but it’s not loving for me to do that. It’s not that I can’t, but it wouldn’t be the loving thing to do, and you see the difference in motivation of doing it, because I can’t do it. You know, want to commit adultery, but I can’t. That’s real thrilling to your wife, but that I don’t want to, because I love my wife. It’s the thing to do is to that would not be a loving thing to do. Now we can make those mistakes, can’t we? And if we get ourselves under the law, I believe that that’s where we get mastered, is because subtly and insidiously we get back under the law of what you can’t do instead of what you can do. I heard my daughter one time say to her husband, if you ever cheat on me, I’ll kill you. She was kidding, of course, but I said, you know, you’ve just put him under the law, because I would hate to think your husband was faithful to you only because if he wasn’t, you’d kill him. Now, obviously, that was not a true statement, it just things that you just throw out. But I’m just saying, you get the point on that. That’s a law, that’s not the case. The issue is that you love one another, and the love becomes the fulfillment of the law. So he’s dealing with us, that love is the fulfillment of the law. Love does no harm to its neighbor. The law doesn’t commit adultery. Excuse me. Grace under love doesn’t cheat on your wife, doesn’t murder people, doesn’t steal people, doesn’t covet. What do you need to covet for?

It’s not that you can’t, it’s not love. Why should I resent what you have, or be jealous of what you have? And so all of these things funnel through this funnel of love, and he says, and do this, understanding the present time, the hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is near now than when we first believed, isn’t that true? It’s nearer now than when we first believed.
