Jesus is Our Righteousness a Gift From God

~ “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous standard of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:1-4

~ For the saved person, they have been set free from the law of sin and death. We have the Righteousness of God living in us, His Holy Spirit. We are to walk in His righteousness, not our own. For the lost person, the offer of His righteousness, Jesus’ Righteousness is available to all, simply by accepting the free gift He has offered to all people. Yet there are people that are lost that refuse to accept His gift of Righteousness. They would much rather trust in their own righteousness, instead of accepting the ONLY Righteous One of God. So if you are saved, don’t let anything or anyone try and place you back under the law that brings death, for that is living in the flesh, and we are NOT to live according to the flesh. And if you are lost, then accept Jesus for His Righteousness, and put an end to the law that brings sin and death. Then live according to the Spirit, for His Spirit that will be living in you once you are born again of the Spirit of God.

Bob George discusses Romans 7:25 with a caller, explaining that the law reveals sin and spiritual death, and that both lost and saved individuals are under the law’s condition. He emphasizes that no one can fulfill the law except Christ, and that believers should focus on the fruit of the Spirit rather than gifts. Another caller seeks advice on reconciling her faith with her live-in boyfriend. Bob advises her to communicate her newfound faith and consider marriage if she desires a long-term relationship. Karen from Waco, Texas, discusses her anger issues and marital problems, with Bob advising her to address the root cause of her fear and to seek reconciliation with her husband.

” I’m speaking to men who to the Hebrews, in other words, who know the law, that the law has authority over man only as long as he lives. He goes down into verse seven and talks about, well, what shall we say? Is the law of sin? Then certainly not, indeed, I would have not had known what sin was, except through the law, For I would not I wouldn’t have known what coveting was had the law not said, Don’t covenant. It goes ahead to talk about the fact that how the law seizing the opportunity that was afforded by the by the commandment really brings us to a point of recognizing our spiritual death. But it also goes ahead to explain, I think that whole area of Romans seven, the things I want to do, I don’t do. I’m on spiritual sold as a slave to sin. Is a picture of a man, of a natural man, not a spiritual man, and really of but I think in all of those cases, in Romans seven, it’s dealing with a person being under the law, lost or saved. This is your condition under the law. It doesn’t make any difference whether you’re lost man under the law or a saved man under the law. Here’s your condition. The things you want to do, you don’t do the things you don’t want to do. You do it anyway. These people today, Lori, that want to be Legalist in their churches. Those are people. Their whole lifestyle is the things they want to do, they don’t do, and the things they don’t want to do, they do anyway. That’s why they’re always preoccupied with sin, is because they cannot get out from the bondage of sin. And so he’s saying under the law in verse 21 there under the law, when I want to do good, evil is right there with me in my inner being, I delight in God’s law. Well, was he talking about there somebody delighting in God’s law, whether lost or saved. But I see another law at work in the members of my body waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members, he comes to identify himself, What a wretched man that I am and who will rescue me from this body of death. In other words, this condition that you’re in, you need to be rescued. If you’re lost, you need to be rescued from your lost condition into salvation if you’re saved and under the law, you need to be rescued from the law and die to the law so that you can walk in the newness of life in Christ, Jesus. So again, this is merely saying, under the law. I myself, in my mind, am a slave to God’s law. If I’m under it, I’m a slave to God’s law, but in my flesh, I’m a slave to the law of sin. So in other words, he just identifies as the condition prior to coming to that, thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ, my lord, and then is able to proclaim, and I think this is, this is a total proclamation of joy. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ, Jesus, the law of the Spirit of Life has set me free from the law of sin and death. He talks about the law was powerless to do. It was weakened by our flesh. God did by sending His own Son and so he can. Damn sin and sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. So I think that whole passage is, how are you going to live? Are you going to get back under the law? If you do, here’s your condition. The things you want to do, you don’t do the things you don’t want to do, you do anyway. You’re in your mind, you’re a slave to God’s law. If you’re under the law, you got to be a slave to it, don’t you? Yeah, but in your flesh, but in the sin, the flesh of mine a slave to the law of sin, and that would be the law of sin and death. So what they’re saying is, get out from under it. And I think that is applicable. There’s a lot of theological discussion on that. Lori as to whether Paul’s identifying his condition as a lost man or a saved band. And I say it doesn’t make any difference whether you’re lost or saved. This is your lifestyle under the law, whether you’re lost or whether you’re lost under the law, or whether you’re saved and have put yourself back under the law. This is your lifestyle.” ~ Bob George
