We Are to Live By Faith, By Abiding in Him Every Moment of Our Day

~ In Him and through faith in Him we may enter God’s presence with boldness and confidence.
Ephesians 3:12

~ Abide in the Holy Spirit at every moment of the day. For He lives in you always guiding you and renewing our mind for those who are in Christ Jesus. And if a person is not being guided at all by the Holy Spirit, then they are not of God. For only those who are of God, have the mind of God living in them, to teach them all Truth. Those without the Spirit are not His and do Not have the mind of God living in them. So they do not think like us. They do not respond to the Spirit like we do. They do not understand the things of God like we do. And the Holy Spirit is required for ALL TRUTH. So we are to place our confidence in Him and what He did on the cross for us, and what He is doing in and through us. And don’t place any confidence in our flesh.

Bob George addressed callers’ questions on spiritual growth, salvation, and practical Christian living. Kevin struggled with maintaining faith at work and was advised to focus on dying to self and living by faith rather than introspection. Lori questioned the interpretation of John 15:6, clarified by Bob that it refers to fruitfulness in Christ, not hell. Sarah discussed Judas’ salvation, with Bob explaining that salvation began at Pentecost. Mary sought guidance on divorce and remarriage, learning from Bob that while divorce is not ideal, remarriage is permissible if one cannot control their passions. You’ve given me so much information, and you know, has just made a major turnaround in my life. I was born again about five and a half years ago, and about two years after that, friend of mine introduced me to you and, and I just have to say that, you know, my life has been phenomenal ever since. However, the problem I have, you know, and I read your book, first Classic of Christianity is where you talk about, you know, the caterpillar turning into the butterfly. And, you know, realizing that now you are a butterfly. I have a problem, you know, with that myself, and I guess it would be leaving the flesh behind. You know, I do my best to let Lord Jesus live his life through me. That there’s, you know, times throughout the day to where it’s completely gone. Okay, that’s quite alright. Where my problem lies is, you know, leaving the flesh behind throughout the day. You know, I start my day, you know, thanking the Lord for everything that he did for me and not everything he continues to do for me. And I end my day the same way, and my travels to and from work or, you know, my thoughts are always on, you know, on the Lord and what he’s doing for me. It’s throughout the day that, when I’m with my co workers, that this seems to leave me. And

The issue is, don’t, unless you want to die, don’t pray to leave the flesh behind, because that’s the only way God could answer that prayer. And so if you want to die, why then pray, Lord, please help me to leave my flesh behind, because you’re in that cabbage, you’ll be absent from the body and present with the Lord and this old flesh will be in the grave. Thank God. So you don’t want to leave the flesh behind. What you want to do is to die to self. And the way you die to self is dying to the law. The law demands the flesh to behave. So how are you going to die to self and when you’re under the law? And so dying to the law is what enables you to die, in essence, to the demands of the law upon your flesh. And so when you’re living, analyzing yourself as to how you’re doing, you’re not doing because you’re not walking by faith. You’re You’re, you’re walking by sight. I did this, and that was good. I’m doing this, and that’s not good. And you’re analyzing yourself in introspection, instead of walking by faith in the fact that you are a totally 24/7 a totally forgiven, blood soaked person in the in the name of Christ, Jesus, redeemed by his blood, saved by His resurrected life, absolutely secured that when you leave this body, you’re going to be in the presence of God, recognizing there is no sin that you’ll ever think of or do that Jesus did not place at the cross of Calvary, and realizing that Jesus said, I am not through with you yet, Kevin and I’ll complete the work that I begin in you. And Kevin said, No, I’ll complete it, because I just don’t seem to be doing too well during the office hours. Well, that’s because you’re doing it, and so you’re not relaxing in the fact that when I go to work, I’m a child of God. And sometimes might not act like it, but I’m a child of God. That’s who I am, and just go be who you are. Quit working at it.

I’ve heard you say it’s almost too simple a million times to it. You know, so many different people, and you know, maybe just getting it straight from you to me is what’s going to make it sink in, you know, because I know that everything is forgiven and to let the Lord work his ways through me.

Yeah, and you see again, here’s what gets to me, Kevin, is you say, Well, if I was walking just, I mean, just really almost ready to make my ascension into heaven. What would it look like? And the issue is, it would look like much, because, in essence, we’re not going into heaven because of our actions and our we’re going into heaven because of his action. We’re going into heaven because of what Christ did, nothing to what I do. Now as a child of God, as a person now that has the ability to plug into the teaching of the Holy Spirit of God and be taught and renewed, my mind renewed by the Holy Spirit of God. Then he says, learn how to walk in dependency upon the Lord. Just as Jesus said, I lived in total dependency upon my Father when I was when I was here on this earth, I didn’t do anything that on my own. I only did what the Father told me to do, and only said what the Father told me to say it. And so quit worrying about what you’re doing. Live in dependency and let God guide your life. It is not complicated. You’re you don’t need to sit around analyze how I’m doing, because if you’re analyzing how you’re doing, you’re trying to do something, aren’t you, and how I am doing, see, instead of, instead of rejoicing in what he’s doing. And so all I can say to you is, relax, Kevin, relax and let God be God in your life.

Let’s get right to it. I heard a real famous pastor slash teacher talk on the radio about John 15:6, and it says, If anyone does not abide in me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up. And they gather them and cast them into fire, and they are burned. And he said that refers to people going to hell. And it just didn’t kind of sit right with me. And I thought, well, maybe unbelievers, but not, you know, believers abiding in Christ. Then I got thinking, well, who produces spiritual fruit? You know, 24/7 right? Yeah, and it’s only because…

The problem there, Laura is that that’s not what the verse reads. It talks about Jesus said, I’m the vine and you’re the branches. And if a man remains in me, and I am him, he will bear much fruit. And apart from me, you can do nothing. So it tells us that if we’re going to bear the fruit of the vine, then there’s only one way to do that, and that is by abiding in the vine. And if anyone doesn’t remain in me. So in other words, if the person isn’t abiding in a vine, then what are you abiding in? Fruit. Well, then what are you going to be bearing false fruit? And he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers, and such branches are picked up and thrown into the fire and burned. In other words, it’s worthless. Your deeds, apart from those that have been produced by Him and you had the opportunity of bearing the fruit, are dead works, and they’re useless. It’s called in the Scripture, wood, hay and stubble, and so it doesn’t say that you’ll be thrown in. He said your yet your works are like a branch that you doesn’t bear fruit because isn’t abiding in the vine. So it isn’t good for anything. It’s all it’s all flesh works. I’ve laughingly said, there’s going to be pastors in heaven someday when they when they go to the Bema Seat for rewards. And there, they’ve built these big, mega churches in the energy of the flesh. They’ve gone out to learn how to build churches and how to be politically correct, so to speak and how to to appeal to people. And so they built the church. Jesus said, I’ll build the church, and the gates of hell won’t prevail against it. They say, No, you won’t. I’ll build it. You watch me do that. And they’re going to be sitting there with wood hand stubble and with all these accolades that we get down here, and it’s going to be reduced to wood, hay and stubble. Of course, it’ll have laughingly say. We’ll probably be sitting there saying that my ash piles bigger than your ash pile. But the fact of it is, it’s going to be an ash pile. There’s going to be no rewards for that. So this isn’t talking about going to hell. It’s talking about that works that are done, apart from abiding in Christ, are worthless, just like a branch, you know, there isn’t anything you should do with it, and can do with it is worthless, except throw it in the fire and burn it all right, yeah.

Yeah, worthless works. Yeah, right. A bunch of you know, I. You know, Lauri, I think of, I think of times my early experience where, you know, I came to Christ and got with an organization, and kind of their deal was, go sick them for Jesus, you know, and, and that’s the way you got petted on the head by man, and that’s where you got accolades. And I can, I can remember, it’s painful to remember, but I can remember sitting, standing, or whatever it might be, the four law booklet with somebody, and looking out the corner of my eyes to see if somebody’s watching me. Now that’s sickening. I mean, it’s good for the soul, but it’s hard on the reputation, but that’s sickening to think about. But that’s how that those are dead works. In other words, my motivation was for someone to see that I was doing something. You know. Well, are there other manifestations of that? Sure, somebody giving to the church so that people will see what they do. They never give it anonymously. Some people do, but most people give it for the accolades, and so those are dead works. Okay, okay.

I have all your books a Bob, and I thoroughly enjoy them. And you hold in regard real, high esteem Major Ian Thomas, and I have his book, The saving life of Christ, that phenomenal book. And I was just gonna ask you if you refer anybody else who writes good Christian books that are good to read,

I really, don’t. Laura, I’m not that much, you know, I’ll see some books that are good, and it’s kind of like sermons. Sometimes you’ll hear a sermon that’s 80% good, then it come negate everything in 20 minutes. So there’s very few books that you can start in the beginning and come to the end that it hasn’t contradicted itself or, and so no, there’s very few that I really recommend. Major Thomas’s. I certainly do. Yeah, okay,

Just a real quick one before I go. When a Christian leaves this earth. Is it best for them to be buried or cremated? Or it doesn’t matter?

Doesn’t make any difference. It’s we came from the dust and we’re going back to the dust. So it doesn’t make inflation. Bud’s not going to inherit the kingdom of God. So quite frankly, it doesn’t make any difference. Be what if you were burned up in an airplane crash or burn up in the war, or what if you drowned and ended up for whale food. It doesn’t make any difference. The body’s returning came from the earth. It’s going back to the earth>
