Salvation is Only By Faith in Jesus, Not by Works of the Law

~ “Know that a man is not justified by works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.” Galatians 2:16

~ Anyone that thinks they NEED to do works in order to be saved, has no idea what salvation even is. You can ask them, those that say “works are required for salvation,” okay, if you say that, what are the works that must be done to be saved? And they can never answer the question. They will simply apply some sort of nebulous answer and never give any specifics. And even when you question them further, they will simply repeat James saying that works are required under the law, as though that is good enough for them. Yet they won’t even look at the following two examples of works in regards to Faith. One being Abraham willing to sacrifice his son, and the other being Rahab protecting the SPIES, and even lying to her government (very interesting when you look at the details by the way). Think about it folks, here is Rahab, a prostitute by trade, and she gives shelter to the Israelite SPIES, and lies to her government about them too. People don’t like to think of either of those as good works examples, for they then get to pick and choose what works they themselves think are required under the law. And of course, they cannot even live up to those works either. In a way, it becomes quite comical when you think about it. And the more you quiz them, the angrier they become. So, for this reason, no one will be justified by the works of the law. And by the way, the works of the law was following the sacrificial system in the old covenant. So how are people going to follow that today when there is no more sacrificing for sins? So the best they can do, is believe satan’s lies, that good works must be required to be saved. They deny the new covenant by their very words out of their mouths. They call God Jesus a liar, when He said, “No one is good except God alone.” And yet people think of themselves as basically good people today. Because they might help their neighbor out from time to time, or they help feed the poor on Thanksgiving, or they donate to their church, or they serve at the nursery, or whatever it might be that they think is doing “good works.” And still, all the while doing these “things,” they deny the TRUTH of the word of God. They haven’t a clue what salvation even is. It’s the Life of God coming to live in them, when they become born again of the Spirit, through NO WORKS of their own, but by FAITH in the FAITHFUL ONE of God, Jesus, God in the flesh to have taken away ALL their sins at the cross and now lives in them for LIFE ETERNAL. So work out (understand) what God has done for you. Don’t

Tim from Milwaukee asked about Philippians 2:12, which Bob explained as working out what Christ has already worked in us. Oscar from Kissimmee questioned the role of government, which Bob attributed to God for order, despite human corruption. Pat from Nashville sought clarification on sin and forgiveness, which Bob explained through 1 John 2:1-2. William from Livermore inquired about renewing the mind, which Bob linked to Scripture and the indwelling of God’s Spirit. Tony from San Francisco questioned Melchizedek’s divinity, which Bob clarified as a type, not God. James from Memphis warned against sorcery and witchcraft, which Bob agreed with, emphasizing the importance of discerning truth from falsehood.

Question from a caller: “The question I have is, there’s a gentleman at work that I work with that follows a work, works based religion, and he’s constantly giving me questions. And the question that he had is he showed me Philippians, 2:12, of course. And it says, work out your salvation with fear and trembling. I was wondering if you might help me explain to him what that really means.”

Bob George Answers:

“It means to work out what’s been worked in. Christ loves you. Love one another. Christ has expressed mercy to you. Express mercy to others. Christ doesn’t keep records of your wrongs. Don’t keep records of other wrongs. That’s working out what’s been worked in and has nothing to do with a works orientation that to for a guy to use this passage of Scripture in the book of Corinthians or Philippians as dealing with being encouraged from our comfort in grace, for a person to still be hanging on to the law when it goes into chapter three, talking about Having no confidence in the flesh. And here’s somebody that obviously has confidence in the flesh, or they wouldn’t be talking about working out their salvation. So it’s like a branch, would you? You could say to a branch, your role is to work out what the vine is working in. It’s amazing how when you approach Bob or approach the Bible, is an attempt with a with a preconceived mode, notion of proving your error. How you absolutely miss the 13th verse there just absolutely miss, as if it’s not there. It tells you for that means that’s the reason you work out what’s been worked in is because he is at work in you to will and to do of His good pleasure, not yours, but his. ~ Bob George
