Choose Jesus For Life – Jesus Took Away Your Sins on the Cross, He Did Not Atone for Sins
Join Bob George as he answers questions from callers on the air.
Jim from Little Falls, NY called about limited atonement. This is one of the things that Calvinists and Reformed theologians cling to. Atonement is what the blood of bulls did (it covered sins). Jesus did not atone for sins. He took them away. He took the sins of the whole world upon himself. The biblical word is propitiation.
1 Peter 3:18
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
Salvation is not getting your sins forgiven. Salvation is life.
Romans 5:10
10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
People wrongly think that getting your sins forgiven is salvation. That is reconciliation but not life. They have this idea since they have been taught that if the worlds sins have been forgiven then everyone will be saved. However, having your sins forgiven at the cross by God does not mean that everyone is saved. They must receive Jesus for life. Salvation is life. The Romans passage clearly teaches that we are not saved by the death of Jesus, but by the life of Jesus. We are saved from the consequence of sin, death. When we receive His life when we receive the resurrected life of Christ Jesus. Forgiveness is received when we receive His life.
Calvinists spin the word of God on everything because they want to keep thinking that sins are not completely forgiven. God does not doom people intentionally to hell. People have a choice.

Another caller was Larry in Sacramento, CA wondering in regards to fighting Satan’s army. It’s a spiritual warfare. Satan is the author of lies and spreads lies in the world. We have to focus on the word of God. We have to make sure we are born again of the Spirit, and making sure we ask God to reveal truth to us. Larry was enjoying the book, Faith That Pleases God. Larry also mentioned that he has enjoyed all of Bob’s books. Bob encouraged Larry to continue in growing in grace and knowledge of God. This is so important for all of us today.

Michael called from New Orleans. He had been to one of Bob’s Classic Christianity Life in Christ conferences. He too had some questions into a Calvinist doctrine of predestination. Predestination by God has nothing to do with individuals being chosen for salvation and everything to do with groups of people being chosen to be made holy based on faith in Jesus. It’s important to understand that the church, the body of Christ is made up of people from groups of people. The mystery that has been revealed is that we are all one in Christ Jesus if indeed we have come to faith in Jesus. There is only one body. There is only one Spirit. There is only one Lord. There is only one Faith. There is only one baptism (baptism of the Holy Spirit). There is only one God.

Lee called from Rockdale, Texas. He lost his father and wanted to share with Bob in regards to this story. He also had a question in regards to Acts 16:16 about the lady predicting the future. He wondered what type of spirit this person had. She was earning a great deal of money by being a story teller for her owners too. Note that this was not God’s Spirit, but a spirit of Satan. We have these types of spirits around today too. There are many story tellers that are demonic.
Acts 16:16
16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.
