Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P50 (01-08-24)
There Remains a Sabbath-rest for the People of God
~ The teaching from the Book of Hebrews is for Everyone, Not just the Hebrews of yesteryear. Yet hardly anyone teaches the book of Hebrews today. And those that do teach it, teach it with major errors throughout the book. The main reason is very few actually understand it and teach it correctly from the pulpit, because quite honestly most are not saved, and that includes the teachers themselves. And if you haven’t figured that out by now, that most pastors and teachers in brick and mortar churches as well as online churches are actually teaching lies, then there might be a good chance you yourself are not saved either. For discernment comes from the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit makes it known what the word of God means, its True meaning, to the child of God. And yet there are so many people today that will listen to liars left and right, that still don’t understand the sabbath rest we are under. And the people themselves are disobedient to the truth, for they refuse to obey it. They don’t want to enter the Sabbath rest, and they certainly don’t want to rest from their own works. They would much rather in their own flesh feel like they are doing something for God. This gives them a sense of feeling good, and puffs a person up in their own sight. And by the way, God views this as evil by being disobedient to the Truth. So take the warning seriously folks.
~ “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.” Hebrews 4:9-11

~ “And therefore TRUST Him and Him alone. That salvation is all Jesus and none of us. It is a gift. And the only thing a gift can be that you can do with a gift is to receive it, you can receive it or deny it. But you can’t change it, you just receive it or deny it. And so God came to enable us to enter into that rest. Now we most Christians realize that we are saved by faith and by faith alone. And but the average Christian today believes that you’re saved by faith, by the grace of God and then sustained by works. In other words, I’m saved by faith, but I gotta keep working in order to please God. And we don’t realize that, no, as you were saved as you receive Christ Jesus the Lord by faith, so walk in Him by faith and it’s him and him alone. And who will complete the work that he began in you. And it’s not what you’re doing for him. It’s what he is doing through you. And many misguided people and I was certainly one of those came to Christ by faith and then went off to work for God sincere as can be, until I came to realize that God didn’t need me working for him, what he wanted to do was to work through me. And that He gave His life for me so that he could give his life to me so that he could live his life through me. And the reason he gave it for me was to give it to me. And the only reason he gave it to me was so he alone could live it through me, and if Christ gave His life for me, in order to give it to me so that he could live it through me, the greatest thing I can do is to let him do it. And to quit trying to get involved in his activity and trying to live the Christian life, which I found out as sincere as I was, I could not, and to realize there’s only one who could and that’s him. And to therefore let him do it. And faithful as he who called you who will also what? To do it. So if he’s the one who’s going to do it, let him do it. And get out of the way and let him who is God get an action on your behalf, doing and living his life in your in my body today, just like he lived his life and his own body 2000 years ago, and let Christ do it, let him do it. Let him live his life. And that is the rest that he’s called us to that is the Sabbath rest where I am resting. Realizing in and of myself is no good thing in it realizing I am a branch I am not the vine. And a branch cannot produce fruit. A branch can only bear fruit and therefore abide in the one who alone can produce the fruit and let him do it.” ~ Bob George

The whole book of Hebrews is written in order to bring the superiority of Christ to people who have been plagued with tradition, who were followers of tradition, followers of Moses, and the traditions that were given in by God, incidentally, to the Hebrew people. But in so doing, to realize that, although those traditions were given by God to those people, and that the book of Hebrews is written to state that fact that yes, it was given, but one who has come who is superior to that. And these things were given for a reason. But that was pointing to a greater reason. And that is Christ Jesus, who is superior to those, the angels superior to Moses superior to all things he has Gof. And to let go of the tradition that was pointing to him, and grab hold of him. And that’s what the book of Hebrews is about. Now. We can sit back and sometimes say, Well, you that was to the Hebrew, but that had everything to do with us. Oh, yes, it does. Because the Hebrew is merely a representative of all mankind. And the gentile or the people who are not involved in those Hebrew traditions, created our own. And it doesn’t make any difference whether the laws that we put ourselves under were given by God, or once we created ourselves, we’re under a law. And what he’s saying is, whatever law you’ve created, we’re going to be a Catholic law, or a Protestant law, or a Muslim law, whatever it might be, it doesn’t make a difference. All man puts himself under some form of a law, and a performance orientation in order to be pleasing to God. And he’s saying, therefore, what is applicable to the Hebrew is applicable to the whole world, because had I not given you these things you would have made up your own. So it doesn’t make any difference, what you’re under, you’re under it. And there’s only one solution to being under it, resurrection. And that can occur by Christ. It can’t occur by traditions, it can’t occur by following a man it can only come through the saving life of Jesus Christ. And so the book of Hebrews, although it is pointed to the Hebrew, is pointed to each and every one of us, because all of us have put ourselves either under our own laws or the laws that man has made or the laws God has given. And in all cases, he’s saying, There’s something greater than that. And that’s Jesus.
Well, let’s turn to the book of Hebrews in chapter four, and we’re going to pick up in verse nine, and then read down to where we’re going to pick up in our lesson, chapter four, verse nine, there remains then a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work just as God did from his. And let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. What was the disobedience we talked about? Unbelief. Just simply refusing to believe that there is a rest that has been made available to us as Christians whereby we can rest from our works.
And therefore TRUST Him and Him alone. A branch can only bear fruit and therefore abide in the one who alone can produce the fruit and let him do it.
As we talked about we can produce all kinds of Christian activities without being in Christ even, let alone a abiding. And we can produce all kinds of things that the world will tell you is what’s going to make you religious. But say I don’t have to be saved to go to church, I went to church for years without ever knowing the Lord from a spook. So you don’t have to, you don’t have to be saved. To do that. You don’t have to be saved to tithe your money you can be put, you can put anybody on a guilt trip and tell him if you tithe God just blessed the socks right off of you. Well, you probably won’t have any socks wait times you keep doing that if you don’t have any money. But that’s not the issue. You don’t have to be saved to do that. Any legalist can do that any person doesn’t know the Lord can do that. In fact, most cults deal in that. So I don’t have to, I don’t have to be saved in order to thithe. I don’t have to be saved in order to go to church. I don’t have to be saved to walk in Ireland say I joined the church. I don’t have to be saved to be baptized. I was dunked everywhere there was to be done before I knew the Lord. And I was dunked in one church and hit me in the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit like to drown me. And then I went to another what just sprinkled me a little I was better. But I wasn’t saved had nothing to do with salvation. I wanted to join the church as a young kid, because the church I was in serve grape juice on every Sunday, and I wanted some of it. And the only way you could take the Lord’s Supper was to be baptized, so lead me to the waters. And so great motivation. But I don’t have to be saved for that. I don’t have to be saved to read my Bible. Obviously, the Pharisees were not saved. They read their Bible. They knew the Bible forwards and backwards, but they crucified the Son of God, loving people sweet, nice dispositions. And so no, you don’t have to be saved for that you don’t have to be saved, to know and to learn and to study what the Bible says you can go to any cemetery seminary, excuse me, and learn what the Bible says, you and I can do that we go to Bible school and learn what the Bible says. You don’t have to be smart for that I can learn and memorize what that says and verbalize it back to you. But I don’t have a clue what it means. Because now the Spirit of God reveals what it means you don’t know what it means. I don’t care how much you study your eye will never be able to see your ear will never be able to hear and your mind will never be able to conceive of those things that God is prepared for those that love him, it must be revealed by the Spirit of God living in you. And so you can study and study and study and study Greek and Hebrew and everything else to learn what it says and you can certainly indeed learn what it says and still not know what it means. So you can be lost as can be and know what the Bible says and study the Bible. You can be lost and pray. The whole world prays. Every religion praise, some more than others. Just praying up a store. And an emphasis of all religion is on Pray, pray, pray, pray, pray. You don’t have to be saved the pray. Muslims pray Buddhist pray cults pray everybody prays. You don’t have been saved to pray. You don’t have to be saved to witness. You don’t have to be saved to be a preacher. As I’ve said before, I’ve had many friends of mine had one here in Dallas. That gave such a good sermon on Sunday, he answered his own altar call. And there are people teaching in Bible schools don’t know the Lord it’s a matter of fact, I think a recent survey that came out is 95% of the teachers who are teaching today in seminaries of all denominations. 95% do not believe in the virgin birth, or the validity of the Word of God. Saved? Of course not.
So you see, everything that we demand today, everything that we as Christians demand people do, get cleaned up, look nice, get your haircut, wear proper clothes, do all of that type, you don’t have to be saved to do that. be lost as a goose and do every one of those things. Someone asked me one time how last is a goose? I have no idea. Lost though, you see all of the demands, the exterior demands that we put on people. You can verbalize religious things and never be saved. Easy to learn the vernacular. As a matter of fact, many kids have done that who have grown up where they’ve learned the vernacular, they’ve heard it long enough that they can repeat it and speak it when they’re around people that want to hear it. Then when you get out with a gang with a new talk your other language. You see, religion is many times like the guy that was sitting in there, you know, he’s got getobuster on his shoulder and he was sitting down there and listen to that music. Man, he is sitting there, snap his finger, Pat, nice toe. Listen, that’s this, go into it, listen to music. Somebody comes along and looks at him. Can’t hear. He’s deaf. But what the guy’s doing here looks like fun. So he sits down with him. He watches him he’s very soon, or soon while he’s doing. Now you got to snap their fingers tapping their toes. Now the guy comes in, he’s deaf too he is seeing two of them and to say, Well, that does look like fun. So he’s he gets going. Where’d he go. And pretty soon, they’re all sitting there, snap your finger tapping their toes for a long while back 20 ever and they’re all just just going to it. All of them are snapping their fingers tapping their toes. Only one person’s listening to the music. The rest of them are just imitating the one who is listening to the music. That’s religion. We learned the vernacular. We know how to speak. We’re not listening to the music. We can’t even hear the music. But we’re imitating those that we think did. And so anybody can imitate. Anyone can act. Anyone can perform. Well, you keep narrowing it down and say well, can you witness now there you got to be a Christian to witness and, and I grew up with that where you know, man, if you weren’t witnessing us, you just weren’t Christian. Well, do you have to be saved witness? No, no, you can teach a monkey of sales presentation and let him go sell some bananas. And you can do the same thing in Christian circles. And I taught people how to use a little book. And if you will read that book why people can come the Lord. And that’s true. God will use that. Won’t He? He can use anything. God’s Word doesn’t return void. He used a jackass in the Old Testament still doing it today. He does not care who he uses. His word is what does it return void, not us. And so you can verbalize and learn a script. I mean, people think some people think that Charles Heston is Moses. He really isn’t, he just plays the part.

And it’s interesting in some of these biblical plays that come out and and the the story of the Bible and the movies that are made and you see these actors given these unbelievably convincing presentations, and then you hear interviews they don’t know the Lord. But boy actors good ones make you cry. bring you to an emotional pitch, Lord. So can you share a Born Free book or or for law book or somebody to be lost? Oh, of course, you’re gonna be saved. So all of these things that we have put on man, what are you saying now quiet time not. How could you be lost and want a quiet time? Real easy. Real easy. You get up have your quiet time because that’s what a good Christian does. And we teach people that to that if you get up and have your quiet time, why, boy, you’re going to be super saint. And so you got to get up early. And then then person said, Well, how early? Should you get up early? Maybe six. Okay. So I’ll get up, be spiritual, and I get up at six. And then I’m doing pretty good. I’m feeling good about myself. And then I run into Otto and he says, I got mine 5:30. Okay, well, maybe I’ll try 5am and before long while you’re getting up earlier in the Austin crowd to get up here. And to have your quiet time, see, because I can make your holy. And because I gotta block out some time today in order to get with God. See that God that’s up there. See, I got to spend some time to get together that God that’s up there. I’ve said so many times, if my son ever came up to me and said, Dad, I’m just so busy, ooh I’m busy. Now, I really don’t have much time to ever think about you. But I’ll tell you what I want to do, because I know we really should touch base. I’ll call you every morning 5:30. And, and we’ll have a little quiet time together. You know what I’d tell him, forget it.
You see, we keep thinking there. It’s a performance to be performed. Something to do with this God that is up there instead of realizing that this God that is up there, through a MIRACLE OF NEW BIRTH came to live in here. And so that it’s a it’s a different it’s not a practice of religion, and that God is not a priority. We got this other idea, have you heard this God first family second business third. You hear people say that it’s a lie, just saying that. I mean, but we put God in a priority list. But God is not a priority, folks. He’s not number one and family number two, and your business number three, Christ is your life. He’s not on a list on a priority sheet. When Christ who is your life appears you will appear with him. That’s not a priority. It’s a life. So as Christ who is my life, now I’ve got a family, I’ve got business, I’ve got all these type of things. And Christ and I who are together in oneness are going to be dealing with these things, but not with him on a priority list. And so all of these kinds of things sound good, but they distort God. In other words, it’s not that God and family and business are that much different, but I just kind of put them a little different priority. Well, God, isn’t a priority, He is your life. And so saying, I’m going to block out this time for God, that’s okay. If you want to do that. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not discouraging, taking time to read the Bible and pray whatever you want to do. But don’t ever think that’s it. In other words, I’ve done my thing now I’m gonna go to the world. Christ is your life, you ought to be talking to him all day long. I don’t need to call him up at five in the morning. I’m talking to him all day. He’s my best friend. It isn’t the kind of thing of saying, Well, I’m gonna have to discipline myself to read this love letter from my fiance. Can you imagine that what are you gonna do? I’m gonna get out and read that letter. Who’s it from? A girl love, gotta read the dumb thing. Probably got to do something for me. With a love letter, you don’t have to be told to read it. Can’t wait to get to it. Think about all the time meditate, put it in your heart, memorize it, read into it, what’s not there. All kinds of things, do all kinds of things with those kinds of letters. Why? Well because you’re in love with the author.
So all of these things, what I’m trying to say, folks is all of these things that we come up with, that we say is what spirituality is what makes you spiritual can all be done and duplicated by a man as lost as can be. Those are works that can be created in the flesh by any man who has a disposition toward that, any man. So when it’s talking about resting, entering into a Sabbath rest, it’s saying rest from those kind of works. They are not the issue The issue in the Christian life is on love. And there’s only one thing that he left us with and that was to love one another. And he told us about love. And in the book of Ephesians and Paul’s prayer, that was his prayer for you and me. And this is another thing that we come up with and and we come up if not all these works are an FYI. We say, well, these gifts they’ll do it these gifts and so I got this special gift and and that proves I’m spiritual. Oh really? Well, Paul said that if you could speak in the tongues of men or angels, and didn’t have love you’re a gong and noisy gong. So it’s kind of difficult to think about calling a spirit filled Christian and noisy gong. So can you exercise gifts? In the flesh? Oh, sure. Can you mimic duplicate things? Oh, sure. You see that see all of those kinds of things, folks, all of it that make a difference, what we’ve been involved in, we’ve all been involved in one form or another have kind of latching on to what I thought I could do a little better than you and then setting that up as the criteria for spirituality. And in my case, it was witnessing because that was easy for me to do. And so somebody over there say, well, the quiet times where I do quiet timing, but I do that witness and so anything that I did had to be the best, see. You do realize that don’t you and and anything you do is the best that’s why when you think a certain way and no one thinks different you say oh they’re wonderful that person thinks differently and I didn’t there’s a smartest people I know you’re not the way we feel no all I’m are idiots Anybody that doesn’t think when you do something wrong with in that in that the way it is? Why well because man I got direct from God. And that’s an excuse for us to Don’t argue with me I got from God. And so we get all of this kind of stuff that goes on in life. And and and all of it looks good. And all of it sounds good. And all of it sounds holy and all of that type of thing. But it is flesh trips is man produced stuff. And the only thing that man cannot produce, impossible to produce is what if referred to in the Bible as the fruit of the Spirit. fruit that comes from the Spirit alone. Gifts can come from man, fruit has to come from the Spirit. Fruit of the Spirit is why well, it’s love. It’s joy. It’s peace. Don’t need to go any further. Have you ever tried to get to get and find peace on your own? That’s lasting? Well, we try all kinds of things don’t wait. You can jog, go to the mountains, drink booze. Get some drugs, all kinds of stuff. What are you looking for some peace, temporary peace. And that’s all it is. It’s temporary. Because Jesus said Peace I leave with you not like the world gives you in other words the world there is a peace that the world will give to you. But it’s temporary. Not like the world gives you give I you. The kind of peace I give you is eternal the kind of water that I give you when you drink of it you will never thirst again. Any other kind of water you’re gonna have to keep going back and back and back for refreshment you drink of this water you will never thirst again if you’re still thirsting it’s because you haven’t drunk in the water the food that I offer you you’ll never hunger again any other kind of food you’re gonna get hungry in two three hours with the my food you’re not gonna hungry again. You still seeking it’s because you haven’t found, when you found you stop seeking.
If your heart is still seeking it’s because you haven’t found so people are always looking for well I’m a I’m a Christian, but I’m seeking for a new experience. I’m seeking for something else I’m seeking for to get know more about prophecy. I’m thinking about this. I’m thinking about this. Friend you haven’t found. He is complete. He is your life. He is your everything. There’s nothing else to seek except him. If you want to seek to get to know him better. That’s good seeking. But there’s nothing more to be found outside of him. There is no magical experience outside of him. Peace comes from Him. The Spirit of God living in you love joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, long suffering and all of these things he said against these thinks there is no law. Folks, this is not something we do. It’s the kind of person you become. And it’s an interesting thing that when it talks about the fruit of the Spirit in the book of Ephesians, that it’s, it says the fruit of the Spirit doesn’t say fruits. It says fruit, singular, what it means is, this is the kind of person that Christ is. And if you will let him this is the kind of person that Christ is that will produce his life in and through you, you will be it’s not a patient, occasionally, you will be a patient person, he will make you into a person that is patient, loving, kind, long suffering, that’s the kind of person he is. And circumstances out here and life folks do not create your in my nature, they reveal our nature. Your wife does that put mad in you, she just draws it out of you. That’s disgusting to think of isn’t it. That eliminates doesn’t that you made me do that. Which is, incidentally, what the entire world of psychology and philosophy is about is trying to get people to rationalize why you’re doing something you made me do it. You caused me, you made me I’m a victim. You made me You made me You made me, which is the very opposite of the Bible says, no, no, it’s not what a man puts in his mouth that defiles a man, it’s what proceeds out of your heart that defiles a man, it’s what’s in you, that has to be taken care of not what’s outside of you. So it doesn’t do you any good to be playing the blame game blaming somebody else for your own behavior. All that did was reveal what’s in you. That’s all. You cannot put in somebody or draw us out of somebody what’s not in them. So when I get angry, Amy doesn’t put anger in me. Somebody else doesn’t put ANGER It makes you to draw us out of it. If it wasn’t in me, she couldn’t get to me. You couldn’t get to me man couldn’t get to me. So who’s to blame out here? Or what’s in here?

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
