Emotions Respond to Whatever We Are Thinking
Justin called from Vancouver, British Columbia. He wanted some practical biblical advice from scripture for someone that is facing emotional pain.
Bob tells him that our emotions follow what we are thinking. We don’t have emotional problems, we have thinking problems. It’s like when you go to the movie and see a scary movie, that scares the living daylights out of you.
The same thing occurs to the person that is dwelling on sins from the past or the things from our past that were not good. Then, if that isn’t enough for us to worry about, we start thinking about all the bad things that may happen in the future. You start thinking about all the hardships you are going to face or thinking you may have to go selling pencils on a street-corner someplace for a job.
Jesus told us to live one day at a time, and the Apostle Paul wrote, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Romans 12:2
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Now, this is not by altering your mind, but the renewal of your mind. So, I need to remember that I can not walk by faith yesterday, for yesterday is gone. I can not walk by faith for tomorrow, because tomorrow is not here yet. And Jesus said, “that without faith it is impossible to please God.
Hebrews 11:6
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
So, I can only walk by faith in the here and now. And that is why it says to live a day at a time. Tomorrow isn’t here yet. You can only walk by faith in the present.
There are many people that are emotional basket cases. They hold on to resentments and unforgiveness. Yes we do experience emotional pain because of what we are thinking. We must remember to get our mind renewed. We must get the mind renewed by Truth. And the only place for Truth is the bible. We need to go back to the scriptures for truth. We need to be born again, having accepted the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, and what that means for me. Once we have that, and know that the Spirit of God lives in me, then He is there to teach me the meaning of the word of God.
1 Corinthians 2:9,10
9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him— 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.1 Corinthians 2:16
16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Once that has occurred, then we have the mind of Christ living in us and He teaches us the meaning of things. Then we have Joy in our hearts.
Bill the second caller called from Beloit, Wisconsin. He wanted to know how the Law of God relates to the Law of the land, as in a nation?
Bob tells him the Law is for the lost and goes on that society as a whole needs to be a nation of laws. Otherwise you end up with total anarchy.
1 Timothy 1:9
9 We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,1 Timothy 6:5
6 and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
We need to go through a Romans 7 experience in order to come to the end of ourselves. If we think we can obey part of the law and that is good enough with God, then a person is simply not saved. They haven’t come to the end of the law in their own life.
We must walk in the Spirit, instead of by the law that kills.
Joe called from Los Angeles, California. He had a comment and a thank you for the teaching that Bob George Ministries had opened him to God’s word. The fourth caller Cheryl called from Vancouver, British Columbia. She had a questions in 1 Corinthians 11 about hair coverings.
Bob explains that was in regards to temple prostitutes walking around Corinth with their heads shaved. It was a sign of prostitution. That would have been a dishonorable thing for a woman to walk around with a shaved head. And if they came to Christ, then cover the head so as not to be associated with prostitution anymore.
1 Corinthians 11:6 NIV
6 For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head.1 Corithians 11:6,7 KJV
5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. 6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
So it is saying to not be associated with being a prostitute. Context is important. Wearing a little doily on top of a woman’s head is just legalistic garbage in churches today.
Another question from Cheryl was in regards to people telling her she doesn’t have enough faith when she gets sick or something like that.
Bob sets the record straight on this. People get it into their heads that faith is ordering God around. Like if I tell God to do something He is obligated to do it based on how much faith a person has. It’s like these guys on television and they all got rugs [wigs] on top of their heads. Well if they believe in healing so much, why don’t they tell God to grow some hair on their heads. Also, the ones that wear glasses, if a person believes in healing so much that is preaching this (just faith it), why are they wearing glasses or corrective lenses? They should crush their glasses and be healed of their poor eyesight. Or get rid of your false teeth and put real ones back in there.
There are so many things out there with these people and we should not pay any attention to them. For they preach a false gospel, which is no gospel at all. The preaching that you can cause God to do something for you sets you greater than God. These people are liars and con artists. Realize what you are dealing with with people like this.
Marian called from Augusta, Georgia. He had a question about Romans 9:13 God hating Esau.
Romans 9:13
13 Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
Bob explains that God hates the proud. With Esau, he hated him for his pride. He hated him for what Esau represented.
We know that God so loves the world. Everyone is part of the world, and thus God loves everyone in the world.
Go into the book of Ephesians and understand that both the Israelites and the Gentiles were predestined to be conformed to His image. Election is about groups of people, not individuals.
