Preach The Gospel is Key For Each of Us

~ “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with words of wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 1 Corinthians:1:17

The Apostle Paul made it abundantly clear what the most critical, non-negotiable job is for each and every one of us to do: we are commanded to preach the Gospel—in season and out of season. We are not called to sit passively in pews, sedated by the horizontal distractions of the out lands, or spoon-fed by seminary-credentialed gatekeepers who treat grace like a business. We are called to stand on the proper, unyielding foundation and shout the un-scrambled Truth of Calvary directly to a dying world.

And what is the true, un-scrambled Gospel? It is the absolute reality that Jesus, God in the literal flesh (basar), entered our physical jurisdiction under the dome to operate as our Goel—our near-kinsman. He was born of Man to legally qualify under divine property law, lived a perfect, flawless life, and came to take away the total sin debt for everyone at the cross of Calvary. He did not make a mere down payment, and He is not a forgiveness vending machine; His infinite blood was the total propitiation (hilasmos) for ALL sins, for ALL time, and for ALL people—spanning from our first parents, Adam and Eve in the Garden, straight through to eternity future. The global ledger of reconciliation (katallage) is permanently balanced, settled, and closed.

We must shout this from the rooftops with absolute vertical authority: “Your sins have been historically forgiven and washed clean at the cross!” Because the debt was liquidated at Calvary, God is not counting, logging, or imputing trespasses against anyone today. The legal charges have been dropped. But you must understand this critical covenant boundary: reconciliation is not salvation. The cross cleared the courtroom charges, but we were all born spiritually dead in Adam, carrying an unsealed, scrambled spiritual void without the Spirit of God animating our biological vessels. We do not need to perform rituals, get dunked in water, or beg to “get clean” before God; we need Life from the dead!

That Life is found exclusively in Christ Jesus. The exact microsecond you place your active Faith in Him—entering into Socratic agreement that He did it all for you on the cross of Calvary—He sends His Holy Spirit vertically to occupy, seal, and fuse with your native human spirit as one. Through this Divine Fusion, He establishes an unbreakable Sovereign Firewall that permanently locks your biological hardware against the adversary’s sifting forever. So make a decision for King Jesus today! Stop begging for what is already finished. Agree with the Sovereign Verdict, receive His indwelling Life directly, and become a brand-new creation in Christ Jesus!

Apply Faith to the Equation!

Bible Study Books

Bob George addresses callers’ questions on faith and Christian living. Michelle expresses frustration with Christians’ Bible illiteracy and anger over misconceptions like the Da Vinci Code. Bob advises her to focus on praising God for her insight and to address her fears rather than her anger. Oscar inquires about the end times. Mark questions the necessity of baptism, and Bob clarifies that it’s not essential for salvation. Monica asks about living in sin after salvation, and Bob emphasizes that salvation is about being saved from sin’s consequences and that true believers will not continue in sinful lifestyles.

In the baptism call, Mark from Nashville explains that he has been saved and believes Jesus Christ lives in him, but he is struggling with the issue of baptism because his church is pressuring him to be baptized, while in prayer he keeps sensing that it is not actually necessary. Bob George responds by saying that baptism is not required for salvation, pointing out that Paul said God did not send him to baptize but to preach the gospel—something Paul could not have said if baptism were part of the saving gospel itself. Bob explains that baptism began in the context of HEBREW ceremonial washings and is best understood as a symbolic act, a picture of what has already happened at salvation: a person who was spiritually dead under the law is “buried” (submerged) and then raised to walk in newness of life in Christ. He notes that Jesus’ own baptism was not for forgiveness of sins—since Jesus was sinless—but to fulfill what God had told John the Baptist so that John could identify Him publicly as the Messiah to Israel. Bob says that while baptism is not necessary, it can be beneficial as a visual aid and public testimony, both for the one being baptized and for observers. However, he is sharply critical of churches that pressure people to be baptized as if it were essential for salvation or insist that only baptisms done “in our church, in our water, by our pastor” are valid, calling that stance hypocritical and unbiblical. He also questions using baptism as a requirement for formal church membership, emphasizing that the believer is already a member of the body of Christ by virtue of salvation, apart from any ritual.

Concerning Baptism

Well, Mark Paul, you know, Paul obviously didn’t think there was a great importance to that. He said, “I’m glad I didn’t. I’m glad I didn’t baptize anyone except Crispus and Gaius, because Jesus God didn’t call me to baptize, but to proclaim the gospel. Now, if baptism was in the gospel, he couldn’t make that statement. And so the issue is that ceremonial washings and cleansings were all throughout Judaism. You go over to Israel today, you see all kinds of pools, of small bath pools that were used for ceremonial washing, which was basically what baptism was. And people said, “Well, Jesus got baptized. Well, I know he got baptized, and he said, “And John the Baptist explained why he got baptized. He said, “Because God told me, John the Baptist, that the one on whom you see the dove appear is the Messiah, and so the purpose that Jesus allowed himself to be baptized was so that John could identify him to Israel as to who he was, the Messiah, and so Jesus didn’t baptize get baptized for the remission of his sins. Jesus was sinless, and so but that was the purpose of baptism was cleansing people and preparing people for salvation by getting their self cleansed of their sins. Well, Jesus didn’t need that, so the reason that he allowed himself was to fulfill the law and to fulfill what had been told to John the Baptist in regard to himself, and so baptism is not in any way, shape, or form connected with salvation at all. It’s an act following salvation, to which is a picture, if you want to look at it that way, of what happened when you and I were saved. We were came into this world alive under the law, dead spiritually under the law, you’re submerged. You die. You leave what Paul says through the law that I died to the law. The law killed me. I leave the law in the grave, and I am raised in the newness of life to be married to another Christ Jesus our Lord. And so, that’s a picture of what has already taken place. Is it necessary? No, it isn’t necessary. Is it is it beneficial? Sure, it’s beneficial to the one who allows himself to submit to that visual aid, and it certainly is a benefit to those who are watching it take place as to the validity of a man’s salvation.

Well, I would get out of a church that kept pressuring you for baptism because, quite frankly, they’re hypocrites, and I’ll tell you why they’re hypocrites. The people who are in that kind of a mindset will-I’ll guarantee you-are the ones. If you were baptized in another church, that baptism wouldn’t count. You got to be baptized in our waters and in our church by our pastor. Now, where do you find that in the scriptures? So it’s it’s hypocritical what they’re doing. Now, if a person wants to baptize you for church membership, you can do it. But where in the world in the Bible is church membership? You’re already a member of the body of Christ if you’re saved. So what do you need another membership for? So the issue is there’s an awful lot of hypocritical teaching going on in that regard because they don’t mean what they say. If like I was baptized three times before I was saved, so I’ve probably been baptized more than anybody. I’ve been dunked and I’ve been submerged and I’ve been submerged three times. I don’t know any other way you could baptize me. None of them counted. None of them brought salvation. And so I can say to a person that says you have to be baptized to be saved, well, fine. I’ve been baptized three times, probably more than you. But that ain’t going to work. Why? Well, you weren’t baptized in my waters by my pastor. So I say you’re a hypocrite. So I don’t want to be a part of a hypocritical church, and somebody who is emphasizing an outward form like baptism to salvation is a hypocritical church because there is there’s nothing that you and I can do to obtain salvation. Nothing we can do. That in essence is saying I’m going to take the initiative of getting myself submerged in water, and then God has got to bless me with salvation. That’s putting me in a position of being the initiator and Him the responder. And if I’m the initiator and He’s the responder, I’m greater than God. I can cause Him to respond.

Monica from Austin calls to ask whether a person who is a Christian, has been saved, but is “living in sin” will still go to heaven, with a particular situation in mind (a friend living with someone out of wedlock). Bob George responds by clarifying what salvation is: not merely getting sins forgiven, but being saved from the consequence of sin—spiritual death—by receiving the life of Christ. He strongly emphasizes that at the cross Jesus took away the sins of the entire world once for all, so believers are not repeatedly getting forgiven but are forgiven people who now possess eternal life. On that basis, Bob argues that ongoing sinful behavior does not undo salvation; instead, it reveals a believer who is living foolishly and inconsistently with who they are in Christ. When Monica says she has told her friend that she will not go to heaven unless she repents of that sin, Bob tells her not to say that again, calling it erroneous and explaining that passages like Galatians 5 about not inheriting the kingdom are describing lost people, not believers. He urges that her friend, if truly saved, should change her living situation not out of fear of hell but out of a desire to live in line with her identity as a child of God, and stresses that the only reason a person ultimately goes to hell is the rejection of Christ—not specific acts of sin in a believer’s life.

Concerning Forgiveness

Monica, you see again, this is the unbelievable confusion that is out there today in the Christian world. If you are saved, what does it mean to be saved? Is it just getting your sins forgiven, or what is salvation? Well, I’ll tell you what salvation is. It’s being saved from the consequence of sin, which is death, by the gift of God, which is life. When you were dead in your sins. That means dead spiritually in your sins, and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave all your sins. I ask people the question: What do you go to church for if you don’t believe that Jesus took away the sins of the entire world? You ought to go out and kill a bull and goat for the way that people believe the cross. The cross was where God took away the sins of the world from His eyes. He took it away. He doesn’t see it anymore. Jesus did that for you and me. Now, why did He take away the sins of the world? Because sin is what caused spiritual death, and inasmuch as sin caused spiritual death, had he not taken away every sin eternally at the cross, he couldn’t have given you eternal life. But because he did take away eternally the sins of the entire world, and saying that the only sin that’s attributable to me is the sin of the rejection of the Son of God-that’s the only sin. Nobody ever go to hell because of his sins. Period. Only the sin of the rejection of Christ who provided that for us.
