Jesus Selects Saul ~ Paul
~ Acts: 9:1-19
~ Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the disciples of the Lord. He approached the high priest and requested letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any men or women belonging to the Way, he could bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem.
As Saul drew near to Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?”
“Who are You, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” He replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless. They heard the voice but did not see anyone. Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could not see a thing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. For three days he was without sight, and he did not eat or drink anything.
Ananias Baptizes Saul
In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, “Ananias!”
“Here I am, Lord,” he answered.
“Get up!” the Lord told him. “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”
But Ananias answered, “Lord, many people have told me about this man and all the harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. And now he is here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on Your name.”
“Go!” said the Lord. “This man is My chosen instrument to carry My name before the Gentiles and their kings, and before the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for My name.”
So Ananias went to the house, and when he arrived, he placed his hands on Saul. “Brother Saul,” he said, “the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here, has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
At that instant, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and his sight was restored. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength. And he spent several days with the disciples in Damascus.

Bob George addressed a caller’s concern about a 16-year-old boy involved in the wrong crowd, emphasizing the need for parents to intervene and ensure their children have a relationship with Christ. He stressed the importance of preparing children spiritually from a young age. Another caller sought clarification on the apostle Paul’s role, with Bob explaining Paul’s apostleship and his deep connection to Christ. A third caller questioned the Trinity, and Bob clarified that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct yet equal, urging faith over intellectual understanding. Bob also discussed the proactive nature of the gospel and the importance of salvation.
Well, by the fact that God named him as such, and the apostles certainly agreed with it, and had Paul on the same par. God had a had, quite frankly, a total encounter with Christ Jesus on the road to Damascus. We, on the other hand, Ewan, we don’t know whether Paul was observed Jesus’ baptism. It’s not recorded. He. Could have very well been there. He could have certainly been there at the cross and and and witnessed the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus. So, just because it’s not stated doesn’t mean that that didn’t happen. As a matter of fact, I would be quite surprised if he was not there at the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus because of his atmosphere toward Christians. And just like many of the Pharisees and Sadducees would would be at the baptismal waters watching to see who was being baptized, so that they could either stone them to death or get them arrested or something. And that was that was was very evident back in those days, and that was a common practice, so we don’t know that. We don’t know that, but we do know that Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles, named by God, and and the apostles and the and and the other apostles that were with him acknowledge Paul’s apostleship.
John 6:28,29
28 Therefore they said to Him, “What must we do, that we may be doing the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you should believe in Him whom He has sent.”
