Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P695 (12-16-21)

Have Your Mind Renewed – Not Altered

For many years, Bob George the creator and host of People to People, a daily radio broadcast, connected with listeners across the continent on his live, daily radio broadcast, Bob offered real answers for real life as he addressed common questions as well as the tough issues of today, directing callers to the centrality of “Christ in you, your only hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).

These calls are just as relevant today as they were yesterday. Listen in as Bob teaches truth from the word of God.

2 Timothy 4:3
3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

The first caller, Vinny called from Pitcairn Pennsylvania. He had a question about people teaching positive thinking from a Christian perspective. Bob sets the record straight on this and points out that these people are liars. Jesus doesn’t teach about positive or negative thinking. Jesus talks about correct thinking. People that teach this positive thinking message, leave Jesus out of the message.

The bottom line, is when you teach the truth of the word of God, you will not have huge numbers of people following you.

1 John 3:5
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

Bob goes on to point out that we have to put saving faith in what Jesus did and who He is. He took away all our sins on the cross so that He might give us eternal life when we place faith in Him. Yet there are people (many people) that say they have faith yet they have to clean themselves up the last little bit. But these people are not saved with a 70 or 80% faith and the last bit of work depending on yourself. They are not saved by trying to do better. They are not saved by a faith in something that is not true. God loves us too much to allow that to happen. Place faith in Christ’s righteousness, not our own. Place faith in His completed forgiveness on the cross for your sins, not our confession booths of asking for forgiveness or keeping short accounts with God. Place faith on living moment by moment in Him, faith from first to last.

The second caller, Charles called from Lubbock Texas. He was inquiring about Deuteronomy 22:5 and the meaning of it. He wanted to know if it applied for today for what men and women should or should not wear.

Deuteronomy 22:5
5 A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.

Bob George points out how some things have changed in regards to the styles of clothes. People try to use the law to teach what someone should or should not wear based on their own thinking. Yet the main thing to look at and understand here in regards to the word of God is people should not pretend they are the opposite sex of who they are born as. Those are the things that the Lord detests.

The third caller, Fredrick called from Atlanta Georgia. He had a question in regards to another caller and a prayer for changing the will of a husband through prayer.

Bob points out that we sometimes act as though we are God. We want God to do what we want God to do. Yet when it comes to certain traits or characteristics of another person, God sets us straight. God died for them too. Prayer doesn’t change another person based on our demands. If God is getting ready to do something He places it on our hearts to pray for them. We have to understand the will of God.

Prayer is expressing your desire to God. It is trusting God for the results.

2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Another caller Dennis called from Fullerton California in regards to being saved as an alcoholic and wondering why he sometimes reverts back to what he was doing.

Bob points out that no one has ever stopped sinning. We think that if a person becomes born again they stop sinning. Yet the Apostle Paul teaches us to glory in our weakness and be dependent on Jesus instead of alcohol. Jesus wants us to renew our minds on the word of God. He doesn’t want us to alter our minds.

2 Corinthians 12:9
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

We need to be reminded and understand that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We need to begin to look at things in a different way. Jesus doesn’t want us to alter our minds and keep us as a child immature in the faith. He wants us to grow in maturity through the renewing of our minds.

1 Corinthians 6:19
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

Renew our minds.

Romans 12:2
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
