Classic Christianity – The Book of John P84 (08-16-23)

Jesus Died on Thursday, The Day of Preparation

~ Traditions are seldom accurate in the teaching of the truth of God. We are told in scripture that Jesus would be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. This is very important for us to understand, because the traditions of the teaching of men are simply wrongly taught in this area of understanding in the Word of God of the day Jesus died. In fact, the teaching of Man refers to Friday as “Good Friday,” and then over the years, we defend that day as the day Jesus died on the cross. And that is just like Satan to get us to live our life based on the teaching of men rather than the truth of the word of God. Jesus was crucified on The Day of Preparation. A special Sabbath occurred after the day of preparation, before the Saturday Sabbath. And so there would have been two Sabbath days in a row. But hardly anyone teaches the truth of the word of God in that area. And so, it is very interesting that Jesus actually died on Thursday, which was called The Day of Preparation. That is no coincidence. Because the cross is the preparation for our salvation, but it is NOT salvation in itself.

And remember this, Jesus did it (died for sin) one time only, and He isn’t going to die again for any sin. Because He took all the sins of the entire world upon himself once for ALL. Place faith in Him that he did it All for you! You are forgiven! Believe it.

~ “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

~ “For just as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.” Mathew 12:40

~ “so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:28

~ “The special Sabbath was actually after the day of preparation. And the regular Sabbath was on the feast first day the Feast of Tabernacles. I hope I’m not confusing you here. So let me go back to this. Thursday, the day that Jesus was crucified was called the day of preparation. Now Isn’t it strange that he was crucified on the day of preparation? When the cross was the preparation for the salvation through the resurrection? Isn’t that strange? Never hear about it, never hear talked about the day of preparation is the preparation of God for salvation on Easter, on Sunday, and so on that day of preparation was when he was crucified. And again, as I said, this preparation day was when the Hebrews came and cleaned their house out of any kind of leaven. Why? Remember what it says it takes just a speck of leaven to do what? Spoil the whole loaf. So they got rid of all, all of the leaven. And so we see there that this was the day now was a day of preparation of preparation. And the next day was a special Sabbath, not the Sabbath that we know of on Saturday, but a special Sabbath, the day before. And because he did not want the bodies left on across during the Sabbath, so you have a special Sabbath, and then you have the Sabbath. Now, what is the Sabbath? That’s the Saturday. What was the special Sabbath? That was the Friday. When was he crucified? Thursday. When was he buried? Thursday. Remember the prophecy that he said? That just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale, for what? Three what? Days. And what? Three nights. How in the world could he have been crucified on Friday, when he had only been in the in the ground for two days, two nights? He was crucified on Thursday, which was the day of preparation, the next day was a special Sabbath. That’s why we’ve gotten that confused. Because instead of looking at a special Sabbath, for what it was a celebration of the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, we look at it as the Sabbath. But here we’ve got a special Sabbath, and the Sabbath. And so they asked Pilate to have his legs broken, and the bodies taken down. And we’re told that the soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man had been crucified, and then those of the other. So guys, that is the chronology of Jesus. It’s the chronology of what happened on the days prior to and the day of, and the days after the crucifixion, and the death in the burial of Christ Jesus, Are we all kind of together on that now? It’s not that it is possibly that important. But on the other hand, it is important. And it’s important for us to know what took place during those times.” ~ Bob George

But here we’ve got a special Sabbath, and the Sabbath. And so they asked Pilate to have his legs broken, and the bodies taken down. It’s the chronology of what happened on the days prior to and the day of, and the days after the crucifixion, and the death in the burial of Christ Jesus, Are we all kind of together on that now? It’s not that it is possibly that important. But on the other hand, it is important. And it’s important for us to know what took place during those times.

Now, if we can, can we go back to 18:28? Now we’re told there, and now that you kind of know the whole chronology there, the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas. And this now is in the morning, this would be Thursday morning. The Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor, and by now it was early morning, and that would have been very early in the morning. In order to avoid ceremonial uncleanliness, the Jews did not want to enter the palace. In other words, they didn’t want to be ceremonially unclean. They just wanted to kill a man. Guys, is that hypocrisy? Or is that hypocrisy? They wanted to be able to eat the Passover. So Pilate came out and ask him, What charges are you bringing against this man? And their answer to that pretty wise to me. If he were not a criminal, they replied, we would not have handed him over to you. It’s kind of kind of arrogant to me. And Pilate said, Take Him yourselves and judging by your own law, we don’t want to judge you. And they’re answered that we don’t have any right to execute anybody. In other words, we don’t want a trial. We’ve already tried him. We already have a verdict. We just need your stamp of approval. We’re not interested in a trial. We’ve already determined that he’s guilty and we already have determined that he needs to be executed. We just want you to carry it out. Well, it said this happened. So at the words of Jesus had spoken, indicating the kind of death he was going to die would be fulfilled. Pilate went back inside of the palace and he summoned Jesus and ask Him, Are you the king of the Hebrews? And Jesus said, is that your own idea or did others talk to you about me? And Pilate reply, am I a Hebrew? Look at this guys. It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. So guys, let’s not let people walk around saying we had no responsibility in the death of Jesus and you get some Jewish leaders today who cannot handle the fact that they just might have had a bad guy in their midst. As if having a bad guy in your midst. Have any of us escape that? Sometimes guys, the pride of man is such that it says, Don’t you ever say anything about my race of people. Don’t you ever say thing because you say something about him that reflects on me nonsense. doesn’t reflect anything on me. People talked about slave owners back in the days of slavery, it had nothing to do with me at all. I was against it, then. And I guess it now not have been against it then if I was there. And so I’m not insulted when someone says that white people were slave owners. I’m not defending white people. They were stupid. They were sinful. They were idiots. And so we that has nothing to do. We don’t want to stand up defending something because of our race. Or because of our religion. Where it didn’t make a difference whether the Pope’s right or wrong. I’m a Catholic. I’m that’s nonsense. If someone’s wrong, they’re wrong. I don’t care whether he’s the Pope, or whether he’s Peter. I mean, I don’t we don’t seem to have any problem talking about Peter denying the Lord. Seem to me he is should have been more important than any of us. We don’t have a trouble talking about that. But that was Oh, Peter. So all of these ideas, guys that we come up with where we got to get rid of those, then we’re talking about you and me right now today. And I don’t have an obligation for my ancestors, I have an obligation today to love people. And I got a privilege of loving people. I don’t care what my grandfather did, or anything else. Didn’t know him, or great grandfather. And so he said, is that your own idea? Or did others talk to you about me? Say my Hebrew, he said, It’s your people. It’s the Hebrew people. And your chief priests, the Jewish chief priests who handed you over to me. So who initiated the crucifixion of Jesus? The Jews. Who carried it out? The Gentiles. But in the final analysis who killed Jesus? Me and you, my sin killed Jesus, and your sin, killed Jesus, who carried it out, really didn’t make any difference. The Jews were a part of it and the Gentiles were a part of it. That means the whole world was responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. Now that annihilates the idea of people in all of their brilliance walking around calling Jews, Jesus killers. Because the Jews weren’t Jesus killers, the Gentiles were Jesus killers, the Jews were Jesus initiators of death, all involved, but with different things. But you see how the division has been caused between Jew and Gentile, by people in their ignorance, saying things like this. When they had nothing at all to do with it, that was people that 1000 years ago. Jesus said, My kingdom is not of this world. If it were my say, servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews, arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place. You are a king then? Pilate said, Jesus answered, you’re right, in saying I’m a king. In fact, for this reason I was born. And for this, I came into the world to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth, listens to me. If you don’t listen to Jesus, what did he say the problem is, you’re not on the side of truth. Guys, there’s a line over here is truth. Over here’s, error. Which side are you on? He says, if you’re not listening to me, you’re on the side of error. You’re listening to the father of lies. If you’re not listening to Jesus.

Sounds narrow minded. People said all that you’re a founder, you’re just worshiping. I’m not worshiping a founder. Jesus didn’t come to found a religion. He came for a relationship for who? All mankind, all mankind, and everyone has the right, the entire Muslim world has a Bible that they can read. The entire Jewish world has a Bible, they can read the Buddhists have Bibles, they can read, they’ve chosen to write their own. That’s a choice. I’ve chosen to read this book, instead of the Bible. I’ve chosen to become a follower of Calvin, instead of the Bible. I’ve chosen to follow the Seventh Day Adventist, instead of the Bible, I’ve chosen to follow the Pope, instead of the Bible. And people live in that way where it don’t tell me anything about this Bible. My denomination has told me what to believe. And that’s what I’m believing. I don’t care whether it’s right or wrong, I don’t want I don’t want to mess up my mind by thinking. I just want you to tell me what to believe. Because this is my denomination. This is mom and dad’s denomination and their did and that’s, that’s who I’m for. I’m a Presbyterian. What do they believe? Don’t know, don’t care. Just that’s where I parked my body on Sunday. And that’s how shallow we are. It’s total stupidity and shallow. But that is where the majority of people live with that kind of a mindset. Don’t care what this book says. I’m assuming the guy is teaching me is teaching out of here. That’s a bad assumption. And that’s why guys, you and I had been given the greatest privilege on the face of the earth. And that is to have one of these things in our hands. Many of us I got eight or 10 of them. And I got a book. And this book is truth. This book was written by the Spirit of God through man. And this book contains truth about God. It tells us about the way to God. It tells us about the truth about God. And it tells us about the only life that is available to us from God. Seems to me it’s what Jesus was saying.

Bob George 13:13
This book tells us the mind of God. And guys, for us to ignore this book is about as dumb as anything I can think of is to ignore this this is food for your soul. You go without three hours without eating, man a catastrophe is taking place. But we go for days and days and days and days and never read the Bible says not important got more important things to do. We’ll try that with eating. You’re gonna be thin and dead someday. The same thing you don’t read his Bible you’re gonna be dead soulishly and spiritually. It’s not that you’re read it because someone says read the Bible. It is because that’ll make you know it’ll do something for you. You read the Bible because this is where truth is to be found. And guys, if you’re gonna live in this world of error, which we live in, do we not? This world is full of error. And if you’re ever going to walk in truth that sets you free. Where are you going to find truth? If you don’t find it here? Reader’s Digest? Where you gonna find it? Where are you gonna go? If I were to ask you right now, go out and find truth. Where are you gonna go? Where would you go to find it? Pilate asked that question. What’s truth? He didn’t know what truth was. What’s truth? Don’t tell me about truth. Who knows what truth is? What we think is true. One day is not true the next.

We marry somebody. What do we marry him? You gonna be with him forever? Do you stand before the pastor when you get married said, I do but but I don’t like her and I’m getting rid of her. Then you take your wife for better for worse you haven’t. She’s worse than what I took her for. We have to understand what that was. That was true. This is true. This is real next day, it isn’t real. But that’s just one illustration. In our lives, we’re told lies continually this will do it over here. No, it won’t. Look at Solomon, he had 1000s of women. He said, none of them satisfied. It’s all vanity. That all should give us a lesson. Now shouldn’t that teach us something? I mean, he had anybody he wanted. I mean, we guys didn’t sit around and said, Wow. Let me have a little bit of that you know. No, instead of done satisfied. It’s all vanity, just stuff in a wind. Why? Because relationships aren’t held together by sex. They’re held together by friendship. They’re held together by two people who’ve learned to love to be friends with each other and to like each other. They’re not held together by a sexual act. But Satan tells that it is, doesn’t he? And so Pilate even asked the question, what no world’s truth? What are you talking about? And instead of even dealing with that question, there’s no sense that even dealing with it. I don’t know what truth is. He went out again to the Judeans and said, I don’t find any basis of a charge against this man. But your custom is for me. So he knew the custom was to release one prisoner at a time during the Passover season. Do you want me to release the King of the Judeans? Release your king to you? They shouted about No, not him, but Barabbas. And now we’re about Barabbas taking part in a rebellion we’re told. Now Pilate of Jesus is this and had him flogged.

We know the beating of that those of us that saw the film by Mel Gibson saw a very detailed description. Probably not as bad as it really was, of what happened to Jesus during those days when he was tortured, both by the Judeans and by the Roman army. So they had him flogged. When you were talking about flogging in those days, you were talking about a whip with a bone in the end of it, that had ripped the entire back of Jesus to the point of being able to see the bows and sinues of his own body ripped totally apart. But the cloak back on him, ripped it off later. Tortured, as the Bible says, is no man. These were cruel people. They were very cruel individuals. The soldiers thought it would be funny, I’m sure to twist together a crown of thorns, crown of thorns, and put it on his head, jam it down on his head. thought that’d be funny. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying Hail King of the Judeans. And they struck him in the face. Beating him as no man. Once more Pilate came out and said to the Judeans, look, I’m bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him. And when they would have brought him out this time, you would have seen a man beaten beyond recognition. You would have seen a man with eyes swollen shut, a face battered beyond recognition, bleeding from the scars in his head. The lacerations in his back all of these things on top of no sleep, sleep deprivation, all of the things of ultimate torture, weakened beyond measure and brought him out wearing that crown of thorns and his purple robe and said here’s your man, here’s your king. And as soon as the chief priests in their official saw him they shouted Crucify him, crucify him. Then Pilate answered again you take you take him and crucify him. You take as for me, I find no basis for a charge against the Judeans insisted we have a law. We got a law guys doesn’t make a difference whether it makes any sense or not. That’s our law. And according to that law, he must die. Why? Because he claimed to be the Son of God. When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid. This man is claimed to be the Son of God, he went back inside the palace. And he asked Jesus, where do you come from? But Jesus gave him no answer. Do you refuse to speak to me? Pilate said, Don’t you realize that I have power either to free you or to crucify you? And Jesus answered, you and have no power over me at all. If it were not given to you from above, therefore, the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin. The people that handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin. They initiated cruel, just like the Romans cruel people in leadership roles. Jewish by birth, cruel, that mean all Jewish people are cruel. No, no, I mean, all Gentiles are cruel. No, they were cruel, vindictive, hard headed people. From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free again. But the Judeans kept on shouting, if you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar, while they finally were going to that point. When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down and the judges seat at a place, as the stone known as the stone pavement, which in Aramaic is Gabbatha. It was the day of preparation of the Passover week, we just studied that now. First day, it was a six hour which is noon. Here’s your king, Pilate said to the Judeans. Here again is a day of preparation. But they shouted, take him away, take him away, crucify him. Shall I Pilate he was adamant Pilate was trying everything he could think of not to have to put a sentence on this man. Shall I crucify your king? He said, We have no king but Caesar, the chief priest answered. Finally, Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. He gave up and said Your will be done.

So the soldiers took charge of Jesus carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. Now guy’s there again, here’s a man that had not been asleep since Tuesday. Been up all night, being tortured all the next day, and now had to carry his cross. Had to carry the burden of this cross, it’s no wonder he fell. What a weakened condition a man would be in the loss of blood. Your body beaten up with, with with all the torture that man could place upon him. And finally, they hung him on a cross, they crucified him, with two others, one on each side, and Jesus in the middle.

Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross that red Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Judeans, and many of the Judeans read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city. And the sign was written in Aramaic, and in Latin, and in Greek. The chief priest of the Judeans protested to Pilate don’t write the King of the Judeans, but this man claimed to be the king of the Judeans. And Pilate answered what I’ve written, I have written. When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, divided them into four shares, one for each of them and the undergarment remaining. And this garment was seamless woven with one piece from top to bottom. They said, Let’s not tear it, they said to one another, let’s decide by lot who will get it. And this happened so at the Scripture might be fulfilled which said They divided my garments among them and cast slots for my clothing. So this is what the soldiers did.

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother. I think it’s coincidental that we come to this part in the teaching on Mother’s Day, his mother’s sister, Mary, the wife of Clovis, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved, and that’s the apostle John, standing nearby, he said to his mother, Dear woman, here’s your son, pointing to John. And to the disciple, John, he said, Here’s your mother. And from that time on, this disciple took her into his home. Concern for a mother. Here, Jesus was beaten as no man, came into his own, because he loved them as he loves you and me. And then having the people that he loved beyond measure to the point that no greater love can ever be expressed and laying down your life for your sheep, only to have your own people to turn and to crucify you. Can you imagine the disappointment of that? Can you imagine how depressing something that that would be is here I came to this earth to save these people. And they’re hanging me on a tree and beaten me half to death. But in the final analysis is final concern was for his mom. His final concern was, who’s going to take care of Mother? Who’s going to take care of my mother? Joseph obviously was dead by then. And although Mary had other children, named in the Bible, brothers and sisters, for some reason Jesus wanted her to be with John. The reason for that we do not know except that as we read the Gospel of John, we read the Gospel of love. And of all of the apostles, who wrote in scriptures, John was the one who wrote about love. He was full of the love of God. But Jesus was concerned about his mom. And so he looked at her and said, mom or Dear woman, here’s your son. And, John, here’s your mom. Here’s your mother. And tradition has it that they live together that John took Mary into his home, and they lived, protected by his home until the death of John himself.
