Classic Christianity – Living in the Present – Part 1 – 6-15-26
~ “For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17
~ We are to live by Faith in the Faithful One of God. We are not to place our faith for salvation in other people, places we go to worship or things to do or not do. This is so easy to get our eyes off Jesus, that most of the time people don’t even realize they are doing that with their traditions. And ALL religion has traditions built into them by Satan designed to take our attention off of Jesus, God in the flesh himself, and place it onto something else. Then people even change the meaning of faith into skewing it of how big your faith is based on what “YOU” accomplish.
This is why we need to get back to the basics on understanding ALL the keywords of God. Start off by understanding what Faith really is when it comes to saving Faith for Eternal Life, His Life living in and through you when you Trusted in Him to have taken away your sins at the cross, and He came and sent His Holy Spirit to you, and placed Himself in you for ALL eternity. This is key to understand. This is foundational. And once you have the Spirit for Eternal Life, then allow Him to live His Life in and through you. Faith from first to last.
—
And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone. Luke 18:18,19
Jesus is God in flesh: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1
—
Pray to God:
Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?
Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”
~ Bob George discusses the relationship between thoughts and emotions, emphasizing that emotions follow thoughts and that negative thoughts lead to negative feelings. He criticizes the focus on feelings in counseling, arguing that the root issue is often faulty thinking. Bob also critiques the medical profession’s reliance on statistics and the charismatic movement’s practices, stressing that true faith is in Jesus, not in oneself or external signs. He highlights the importance of humility in leadership and the necessity of faith in God’s word for a fulfilling life, contrasting it with the world’s variable and imperfect standards.
“God is the only constant that I know in this world, and I’ve thought through a lot, and I tell you, He’s the only constant that I can grab a hold of. He’s the only one, and his word is the only thing that I can look into and say that is absolute truth, that is absolute truth, and it will be truth today, tomorrow, the next day, and the next day. For it to be truth, it has to be as true as I’ve said before, in New Guinea, as in New York, and so when you’re talking with biblical truths, if something is maybe true here in this prosperous United States, but it is not true over in the jungles of New Guinea, it’s not true. And so you have to proclaim truth as it is written and not to depend upon your feelings, but what is true and what is not true, and that’s what we have tried to do in this ministry. And I realize that sometimes, sometimes we can, in our illustrations, or whatever it might be, that it appears, and I know this is going to be a shock to you, but it appears sometimes that I may be a little over critical. Has that ever appeared to any of you? I’ve always said I have the gift of criticism, but I, what I’m trying to do is to get people to see the importance of walking by faith, and to have everything consistent with what faith is all about.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:28
We started out in our lecture on depression in explaining the fact that emotions are something that follow thought, that we’re designed that way by God, whereby, as a man thinks, so is he. In other words, as a man thinks, he feels. And you’re designed that way. If you are feeling happiness, it’s because you’re thinking happy thoughts. If you’re feeling depressed, it’s because you’re thinking depressing thoughts. It’s not a syndrome, it’s not a disease, it’s a thinking pattern, and the more that you continue to think negative thoughts, you’re going to feel negative when you’re thinking thoughts about how bad you are, you’re going to feel bad, and that’s why we have to understand that it’s as a man thinks, so is he. Now we have a tendency to deal with the how do you feel, and and that in counseling today is many times a big deal. How do you feel about this? Quite frankly, it’s irrelevant how you feel about something. It’s what do you think about something, because what you think about something is what’s going to cause the feelings to take place.
We’ve used many illustrations of that, of how in a movie you can sit in a movie knowing full well you’re in a movie, but you’re seeing scary sights, so that’s feeding your eye gait, and you’re hearing scary sounds, which is feeding your ear gate, and before long, because of what you’re looking at, you don’t know whether you’re in a theater or whether you’re out in the ocean with a shark, you just don’t know you’re, and all of a sudden you’re petrified, is sitting in a movie, safe as can be, but you’re petrified because you’re looking at a scary sight and hearing scary sounds, and your emotions don’t know whether you’re in a theater or out in the ocean with a shark.
And so we have to understand the truth of that, that as a man thinks, so is he, and so we don’t have feeling problems, we have thinking problems. Now, you say, well, where do the feelings come into all of this? Well, quite frankly, your feelings will help you to identify that you got stinking thinking, because otherwise many times you wouldn’t know that you got stupid thinking, unless your feelings were coming out and showing it to you. So they’re really a way of showing us what we are thinking and where we are thinking, and that is vitally important for us, because God wants us to have our minds renewed, does he not be not conformed to the world, but be transformed by what the renewing of your mind, because as your mind is renewed, everything is going to be renewed. So the function really of the emotion is to show you that your thinking is off, because guys, in reality, we do not want to think that our thinking is off, do we? As a matter of fact, we would almost rather be anything than stupid, rather be sinful than stupid. We just don’t like the thought that I’m not thinking properly. There’s something in our ego, isn’t there, or pride that we just rebel against the fact that I just may not be thinking with proper thoughts. And that all comes from extreme pride, where we think that what I think is right and what is wrong.
I was talking yesterday to my son-in-law, who’s in the medical profession, and we were talking about how so many things in a medical profession, we had it’s, it’s to a degree, it’s guesswork. You have samples that people take of doing 1000 people, and these people who died of heart attacks, so many of them had high cholesterol, so many had the high blood pressure, and then this group over here didn’t have it, and they died too. And you’re dealing with statistics, you’re dealing with with with facts of this, these people did it, this people didn’t do it. The issue is we don’t know. That’s why we said yesterday’s medical book many times, it’s today’s joke book, and that’s not to discredit in any way, shape, or form the medical profession. It’s just saying that because we are variables, there is no science to medicine, and I’ll hear people sometimes say it’s a scientific fact. I say no, it is not a scientific fact. If it’s scientific, it would work the same with everybody. Right or wrong? An aspirin is not scientific. Then it will get rid of a headache. With some people it does, with others it does not. Am I right or wrong? And so it cannot be scientific unless it’s always right. When you do an experiment of H2O, it always comes out water, and so it doesn’t come out something else; that’s scientific. But we are a variable. All of us are variables. There’s nothing consistent about any of us. We’re variables.
God is the only constant that I know in this world, and I’ve thought through a lot, and I tell you, He’s the only constant that I can grab a hold of. I’ve always said I have the gift of criticism, but I, what I’m trying to do is to get people to see the importance of walking by faith, and to have everything consistent with what faith is all about.
As an example, I’ve given, I’ve given examples in regard to some of the things that have come out of the charismatic movement, and I have understood that there have been some people that thought that I was over critical on that, and possibly not possibly, they’re probably true. And with that, if I’ve offended someone with those things, I deeply apologize for that, because I didn’t mean to offend, but I did want to express why those things are coming out, and I’ll do that for just a moment today. As an example, in some movements you’ve seen people who, when they pray, they got their hands lifted up. Now, here’s the issue. If that means to you that I am trying to reach God, I’m going to say to you, quit doing that, because God has already reached you. Are we together on this? If you’re trying, if that, because that’s the way the HEBREWS prayed. The HEBREWS prayed like this, because that’s where God was, way up there, and I’m trying to reach Him, and I’m saying, if that, if, if that, if that outward sign is a result that you think God is up there and you’re trying to reach Him, quit doing that. On the other hand, if that is an expression that’s just a way in which you like to praise Jesus, praise Jesus, that’s that’s your, we’re free to do that, we’re free to praise Jesus, just like we’re free to go to a ball game, some people get up and scream and hoop and holler, I sit there very quiet, it’s not because I don’t like the game, it’s because I don’t like to hoop and holler. Some people do. There are some you can’t hold in the seat, and others just kind of sit there and enjoy the game. So that’s your preference, and that’s the way it should be. And so when I’m saying those things, sometimes I’m not being critical, I’m just saying that if, if in your mind is that you’re trying to reach God, quit doing it, because God’s already reached you. Now, as you know that God has already reached you, and that’s the way you want to express yourself, have at it. Praise God for that. And I probably have not made that clear before in our teaching.
There’s so much abuse many times that you see on television, and I probably shouldn’t watch it, because when I do, it just stirs up my critical spirit even worse. And then I come in and take it out on you on Sunday, but that’s what I’m adamant about. I am adamant about some of that teaching, talking about knocking people over and blowing on them and slaying them in the spirit. There isn’t anything in the Bible about that kind of nonsense. And it is teaching that will put people in a primrose path to nowhere sooner or later, and it will lead them down a valley. That they should not be down according to the word of God. I’m not saying that according to me, but according to the word of God, there’s nothing about slamming people in the spirit in the Bible. And so when I see those kind of things taking place and the misuses, I quite frankly do not think that a pastor should be living in a three, $4 million home and driving around in Rolls Royces. I don’t care how big the church is, that is nonsense, and I don’t believe in that, and I don’t believe that people can justify that fact. Well, the reason I do is because I’m a successful pastor.
Well, I’m telling you, Paul didn’t think he was so successful, and neither did Peter, and he said to in the Bible, Who is Paul? Who’s Peter? He said, We sow the seeds, and you know what he said about that. We who sow the seeds and we who water are not important at all. That’s what he said. We’re not important at all, and yet we put them, oh, we’re important. And there, so here’s the apostles who are saying we’re not important, but it’s He who makes it grow that’s important. They’re the ones that are important, is the one who makes it grow, that’s God. About Paul to me, he’s pretty important, but he says no, we’re not, we’re just servants of God. There aren’t any of us who stand in pulpits who are important. I’ll guarantee you, I’m not important, and I’m not a big deal. I’m just one of you, and I’m just one of you that happens to be given a gift of teaching and a desire to do so, and I’m doing so. Nothing big deal about me at all. I put on my pants, just like you do. Mine are just a little bigger than most of yours. Another big deal about Richard, Bob, Christopher, Bob did big deals about any of us, and if you think that there is, interview their wives or our wives, excuse me, our wives, we’re just people, we’re just people who’ve been saved by the grace of God, who at a time in our lives we are as beat up as could be as a human being, beat up in our spirit, beat up in our actions, beat up in our morality, beat up people who, by the grace of God, turned to Christ Jesus and said, I do, and He changed their lives. That’s all we are, bunch of people have been saved by the grace of God, but are today in the sight of God, His children. And whenever we come to realize the truth of that, that we’re all just brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus who’ve been saved by the grace of God, and there aren’t any big deals, and when I see these guys strutting around on the stage with those bouffant hairdos and these white suits, and blowing on people, knocking them over. I want to throw up when I see that, because it’s utter nonsense. We don’t have any room for that, in my opinion. In Christianity, I do not believe that Jesus walked around with that kind of a swagger. I think he said I’m lowly, did he not? And I’m humble of heart, and there’s no room for that kind of stuff to me, calling yourself a born again believer.

Bob George 13:57
And so I wanted to clear some of those things up. The same thing is true, not only in that movement. Same is true in other movements, in Protestant, or whatever you want to call it. You have people who are arrogant, and you have people who we get into positions of leadership and become arrogant, and I’ve done interviews with people who have shows that are big, big, big, well-known people, and I’ve been interviewed by them on television, and I remember one especially where the deal was that they sat me down, they came in, guy was sitting there, sat down here, put this, put all the stuff on you. This guy was looking the other direction. Never even know who you are. Don’t have a clue who you are. Looking around, talking to everybody, this type of thing. The camera is on. 3,2,1, Hi there, you. We have with us one of my best friends, Bob George. He doesn’t know me from an atom, doesn’t have a clue who I am, and was talking about my book, Classic Christianity. I said to him, “Have you read it?” I did. Have you read it? No, he hadn’t read it. And we said, “What do you send acting like you read it for?” And then then the break would come. It’s break 321, Hi there. I look at that and say that is utter nonsense. I won’t go back on those channels. I’ve got all kinds of opportunities to go back. I will not go to them because it’s phony as can be, and I think we get enough phoniness out in the world, don’t you, that you don’t need it in a Christian church. I like to just come to church and be around people, just people who love Jesus, don’t you? And so this kind of stuff that you see, can you imagine the world looking at all this that’s going on in television and saying, if this is what Christianity is about, who needs it? And I agree with him. If I thought that’s what Christianity, I’d be the biggest heathen in town, because I too do not think that has a thing to do with Christianity.
Now, what does have something to do with Christianity? Faith. But you see, Satan comes and shields that, and says this is what faith is. If you’ve got faith that’s big enough, why, then God will heal you. Or, if your faith is big enough, God will do this for you. Now, isn’t that strange that Jesus said, if any of us had faith the size of a mustard seed, that we could move mountains, you know, how big a mustard seed is, you can’t even hardly see it. So that says to me that what Jesus is saying is you don’t have a whole lot of faith, but you don’t need a lot of faith, you got a big God, and if you got a big God, you don’t need a whole bundle of faith, and how are you going to measure faith? But you see, we get down and say, oh, you got to have big faith, and you got to have big faith, and big faith, and we get into the faith movement now. Well, you see, we’re not in a faith movement, you’re in a Jesus movement, and our faith is merely what says I believe you.
We exercise faith every day when you sat in that chair, and for some of you, you exercise a lot of faith that they would hold you. You exercise faith when you sit in a chair, you obviously believe that chair would hold you, or you would have said it, would you? You’d been done to sit in if you thought it’s going to collapse on you. We exercise faith. We go to a restaurant and order food. How do you know it’s not being poisoned? How do you know when you go home and it’s not being poisoned? You exercise faith every day of your life. People get in the car to drive from Houston to here, they had faith that their gas wouldn’t run out. That was poor faith for some people. So you have, you put your faith all the time. You get an airplane, you certainly don’t think it’s going to crash, or you’d be a nitwit to get in it, so you exercise faith that that plane is going to take me where it says it’s going to take me, and it’s going to land where it’s supposed to land. That’s faith.
Well, what’s your faith in you? Is my faith in when I get in an airplane, that my faith is going to make that plane to land safely. My faith ain’t gonna have anything to do with that. If somebody’s poisoned my food, is my faith not going to let it affect me? So, you see, we have to understand what faith is. It’s not our faith, it’s the object of our faith, and we’re told in the scriptures that whatever is not of faith is sin, but it’s not faith in faith, it’s whatever is not of faith in Jesus, is sin. Jesus said in John 16:9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me. Jesus said the world’s sin, singular, is unbelief. “unbelief in me,” and folks, that doesn’t end at the cross and the resurrection, that’s where it begins. We have had no faith in Jesus at all until we put our faith in the fact that Jesus died to take away our sins and that He was raised from the dead to give me life. That’s where this begins. That’s where my spiritual life began. Was back in 1969 when I put my faith in the fact that Jesus died for me, and that Jesus was raised for me to give me what? Life, and when that occurred, I was born again. Totally changed, changed in attitude. Never read this Bible before. I was 36 years of age. When I opened it, it cracked. Never had it open, never carried it to church. Never spoke. If somebody had a Bible in their hand, I thought they were weird. I knew nothing about the truth of the Bible. Little tidbits you would hear, you’d sing ‘Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.’ And all that was a lie, because I didn’t know what the Bible told me. Never had it open. You’re listening to what your pastor tells you, so you say, “Well, I guess he’s been to cemeteries, so you ought to know. And so we assume that. Well, that’s a poor assumption, guys. I want to tell you that right now, because in the majority of seminaries today, you only get about 20% of your curriculum in the Bible, and so that’s a poor assumption.
So it gets down to the fact that God came and left us through the apostles and through His teaching to the apostles, saying to them, I will cause everything that I’ve said to you to come back to your memory. That’s why we have the Bible. We have the Bible because the apostles set apart by God were given the gift of retention, also of to absorb from the Spirit of God and put it down in writing, not in English, in Greek, in the New Testament, was the most explicit language on the face of the earth. That’s why it was written in Greek, and we have it today in translation. If we live in America, we have English. You live in Germany, you have German. You live in Japan, you have Japanese. But all of it was translated off of those original manuscripts, and I got truth in my hand, this is truth, and this is constant, and I can count on it, just like ho is water, I can count on that. And he is saying that what is written in that book is directly from me, it’s like I’m standing in front of you, and speaking to you, and what sin is, is not believing in Jesus.
Now, like this plant, it’s like the emotions, and I like the thought. The thought is the unbelief, the emotions is the result. You’ve got sin observed, that’s kind of what our emotions do. It kind of observes where we are. You can see our emotions, can’t you? You can see when you’re angry and seeing you’re happy, all those things. It’s an observance. Anger, worry, envy, adultery, strife, all of those things are the result of the root of all sin, which is what unbelief. Every sin you and I commit, the root of it is I’m not trusting Jesus and what He said, I’m leaning on my own understanding, and I’m trusting something, or what someone told me, or just what I think about something, and isn’t it amazing how strong we are in this thinking. Why do you think this? Well, I don’t know, but I think it. So, don’t confuse me with facts my mind’s made up. Am I right or wrong? Don’t we think that way? And you can talk to people and try to drive sense in their head. Don’t bother me. This is what I, the big I think. That’s pride, big I in the middle of it. It doesn’t matter what you think. The issue is what did Christ think. That’s why in marriage, how in the world are you going to figure out a woman’s thinking if you’re a man? And how are you going to figure out a man’s thinking, if you’re a woman? You think we’re still cavemen. You’re probably right. How in the world are two separate entities, woman and man, ever going to have harmony in a home if you don’t have somebody else to go to? As to what should I be thinking? It isn’t that I’m not thinking, it’s not that Amy’s not thinking. The issue is, which one of us is thinking right? Maybe neither one of us. And so that’s why you have to go to Jesus to find out what is right, and that’s where you’ve got to go, because man and woman, there’s no way in the world you’re going to think the same way about things. Period. You may as well forget that. And any of you who are married can testify that I see some Amen, hallelujahs. The only way you’re going to have harmony is to have someone in between that, and that’s the word of God. It the word of God that will come to our hearts, show us our thinking is wrong. Both of our thinking is wrong, and that brings you into harmony with one another. Without it, you’re not going to have harmony. I don’t care how you try, don’t care how many marriage seminars you go to, you’re not going to have harmony until your center point of thinking is Christ Jesus, so he is the root. Unbelief is the root of all sin, and belief is the root of a happy life.
And so we’re told that the necessity of without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Now, why? Well, because that’s what we’re talking about, because if you don’t put faith in Him, you’re going to have to put faith in yourself, or faith in what someone else tells you, or faith in what you read in a book. And, guys, the problem with a book is you don’t know who wrote it, could be an idiot who knows how to write, and so that’s the, that’s the problem is you don’t know who the author is, and so we have to realize that I know who the author of this is. I know who authored this book, and he’s a lot smarter than Reader’s Digest, and a lot smarter than, you know, these newscast people who are going around studying Jesus. Little hard to do if you don’t study the Bible, go to Israel and study Jesus. Well, go to Israel, and you study stones. It’s a lot more of those that are our Jesus over there, but it’s the issue that this – we know who the author is. When I pick this book up, I don’t have to wonder who wrote this book, and I don’t have to wonder who was the person who led these people to write this book, it came directly from God into the heart of a man who put down God’s thoughts into this book, so when I’m reading this book, I’m reading who’s thoughts, Peter’s thoughts, Paul’s, no, God’s thoughts, as it was recorded through His servant, the Apostle Paul, or Peter.
