Classic Christianity – Observations of Life – Part 1 – 6-30-25
Observations of Life Part 1
~ “Futility of futilities,” says the Teacher, “futility of futilities! Everything is futile!” Ecclesiastes 1:2
Those without the Spirit of God will find the Truth about themselves and the world in which they live in the book of Ecclesiastes. It tells it like it is. The word of God doesn’t pull any punches. It is meant to wake people up to the Truth of life without God. It is written about observations of life in general. Reminder, those in the old testament did NOT have the Spirit of God living in them. So the things that are written are written to show Man what they are like without the Spirit of God. And a reminder, people did not become born again of the Spirit of God until after the resurrection of Jesus and him sending the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost to bring Life to the dead on the Day to begin with and going forward until today. So when King Solomon wrote this, he was making observations of everything going on back then. And today, those without the Spirit of God, are finding out the same observations are present with them also. They too need to be born again of the Spirit by placing faith in Jesus, God in the flesh to have taken care of everything for them, so that they may have LIFE that is eternal. God’s life comes to live in them for ever and ever. Nothing can kick out the Holy Spirit when you have received Him for LIFE.
Everything Is Futile 1 These are the words of the Teacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem: 2 “Futility of futilities,” says the Teacher, “futility of futilities! Everything is futile!” 3 What does a man gain from all his labor, at which he toils under the sun? 4 Generations come and generations go, but the EARTH REMAINS FOREVER. 5 The sun rises and the sun sets; it hurries back to where it rises. 6 The wind blows southward, then turns northward; round and round it swirls, ever returning on its course. 7 All the rivers flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full; to the place from which the streams come, there again they flow. 8 All things are wearisome, more than one can describe; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear content with hearing. 9 What has been will be again, and what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. 10 Is there a case where one can say, “Look, this is new”? It has already existed in the ages before us. 11 There is no remembrance of those who came before, and those yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow after. With Wisdom Comes Sorrow 12 I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a miserable task God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them! 14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun, and have found them all to be futile, a pursuit of the wind. 15 What is crooked cannot be straightened, and what is lacking cannot be counted. 16 I said to myself, “Behold, I have grown and increased in wisdom beyond all those before me who were over Jerusalem, and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.” 17 So I set my mind to know wisdom and madness and folly; I learned that this, too, is a pursuit of the wind. 18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow, and as knowledge grows, grief increases.
…..
And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.
~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12
~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:
Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7
Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”
~ “Now the issue is, what is the object of our faith, and who is the object of our faith? Is it in passages of Scripture, or is it in Jesus, who spoke the passages of Scripture? You see many times we draw upon I hear people say some Oh, I go to the Psalms to get comfort. I want to tell you something, folks, you better go to the author of Psalms to get comfort, because Psalms aren’t going to get you comfort. He will give you comfort. The Psalms just lead you to Him. But the issue is, we start worshiping the Bible instead of the author. It’s kind of looking at binoculars to see somebody and start worshiping the binoculars. We have to come to grips with the fact that, folks, the object of our faith is Jesus, period. It is nothing else. It is him. The only reason for ever picking this book up is to get to know Jesus. And so we have an object of our faith. It’s not faith in faith. It’s not faith in me and what I’m doing, faith that I, it is not looking for a sign in order to confirm what Jesus did. How sad, when Jesus said, I’ll show you a sign. Tear this building down. I’ll build it up in three days, meaning his body. What more sign do you need in his resurrection? I mean you, I just want to ask you a question, guys, people are continually seeking a sign. Just what sign do you? Are you seeking that is going to be greater than the resurrection of Jesus? And so he’s saying, I want you to come to your senses. I want you to start thinking like adults instead of kids. And I want you to come to an understanding that the ultimate direction of your faith is always in me.” ~ Bob George

Well, let’s all turn to the book of Ecclesiastes. And I know some will say is that in the Bible? And it is, you just go to Proverbs and turn right, and there you’ll be. Guys, if I have studied through this book of Proverbs, trying to get into the mind of Solomon. King Solomon, who’s the author of this book, and it’s kind of a journey that you’re taking here, because when you’re trying to get into the mind of someone else, it’s not the easiest thing in the world to do, especially when we are on this side of the cross, and we are on this side of salvation, where you’re looking at what he is saying, and you’re saying, Is he talking about a saved person? And obviously that cannot be, because, quite frankly, there wasn’t anybody until the day of Pentecost after the cross of anyone was saved, as you and I are saved today, born again by the indwelling Spirit, eternally living in you. In the old days, the Holy Spirit could come upon man for divine service, either lost or saved. But today, due to the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, Jesus, then we have become alive. Something brand new has invaded our humanity, which was not true until that invasion took place on the day that you were born again. And what makes you and I different than the lost is the fact that we have our own individual teacher, living inside of us called the Holy Spirit of God, who is alive there as our teacher, our counselor, our director. He is our life. We have new life that has invaded our humanity. That’s why, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation. What’s new about you? Christ lives in you. It’s kind of like those jars. You’ve got a jar and then you’ve got a jar of applesauce. What’s the difference in the two? One has applesauce in it and it’s sealed, the other’s empty. That’s the same thing with humanity, until the day that you are indwelt and filled with God, you are empty.
There’s an emptiness inside of you, the three age old questions, who am I? Why am I here? And where am I going? Has plagued man throughout all humanity. Never stops. I don’t know what that is, whether it is built into us or what, but there is something inside of us that is continually crying out for the answer, who am I? Why am I here? And where am I going? Is that right or wrong? And it plagues you until you get answers to those questions. The only people on the face of the earth that know the answers to those questions is a born again believer. Because as a born again believer, I now know who I am, and it’s not a Baptist or a Presbyterian or a Methodist. It’s a child of the living God. That’s who God made you. Man makes you all kinds of stuff, but God made you into a child of God to as many as received Him. To them, he gave the right to what? Become a child of the living God. That’s your identity, folks. Now you know who you are, and so it’s I’m not a pastor. That’s what I do, but that’s not who I am. I’m a child of the living God, just like you. I happen to be a child of the living God who happens to be in the ministry. You’re a child of the living God who’s a housewife or a child of the living God who’s a doctor, a child of the living God who, by profession, is a lawyer. I know that’s a contradiction of terms, but it’s true. And so we have to understand that our identity is not in what we do. Our identity is not in where we go. Our identity is in who God made us. I have the answer to that question so I don’t have to wonder, who am I? I know who I am. I’m a child of God.
Why am I here? We also have the answer to that question. We’re here to make our bodies available to the living God who lives his life in and through us. Many Christians never get a hold of that. Remember, we think worship is singing songs. We think worship is praising God in one way or another, but the Bible says that worship is making your body available to the living God who lives in and through us. This is our reasonable act of worship. Anybody can sing songs, anybody can lift your hands, anybody can keep them piously in your lap, anybody can do all of those things, but you cannot make your body available to the living God who lives in you until he comes to live in you. But remember that Christ, Jesus gave his life for you so that he could give his life to you, so that he could live his life through you. That answers all the questions. What am I here for? To make my body available for the living Christ to live his life in and through you.
You remember guys, when Jesus told His apostles, he said, it’s good for you that I am going away. And you say to yourself, how could that be good for somebody, for Jesus to go away? But he’s saying, unless I go away, then I cannot send my Spirit to live in you. So he’s saying, physically, it’s good for me that I am going away. It’s good for you that I’m going away. Because when I do, then I’m going to send my Spirit to come and live in you, and you are going to be what? My body here on this earth 2000 years ago. If you were to look for the body of Christ, you would have had to go to Israel and look up Jesus of Nazareth, and there you would have found the body of Christ. You would have found Christ. You would have found his body. But he said, it’s good for you that I’m going away, because if I don’t go away, you are never going to be born again. I’m going to go away and send you my Spirit, my very life, my mind, to live in you, and you’re going to be my body or my representative here on this earth. What was Jesus here for? To be available to his Father. I don’t do anything unless the Father tells me to do it. I don’t say anything, lest the father tells me to say it. And incidentally, as the Father sent me, so send I you. What is why are we here? To be available to the living Christ, to live his life in and through you. Why is a branch there? To be available to the life of the vine, to produce fruit in the branch and allow the branch to bear the fruit to others, not just to be filled up, just a filled up branch, but a branch that is filled to the measure to the point that there is nothing left to do except flow it out to someone else, to become so full of love that there’s nothing to do except give it to others, to become so full of joy that my joy goes out to you, to be filled with so much of the peace of God that it goes out to you. That’s what we’re here for.
Where are we going? Heaven, already assured, don’t have to wonder about that. People sit around. They wonder about it. Don’t have to wonder about it. If you’re in Christ, Jesus, we are told, with all of the assurity that you could get, absent from the body, present with the Lord, immediately present with the Lord. So now all of those age old questions that people are seeking and searching for all of their lives some people, are answered in becoming a child of God. I know who I am. I know why I’m here, and I know where I’m going. Now, if that can’t bring you peace, then you’re in sad shape, because that is where peace comes from. My past is over. That’s what he says. Forget it. It’s over. Can’t change it. The future is God’s country, and so Jesus said to us, live one day at a time. That’s the only time, my friends, that you can exercise faith is right now. You can’t exercise faith yesterday, it’s gone. You can’t exercise faith tomorrow, it’s not here. But you can exercise faith right now, and without faith, it’s what? Impossible to please God.
Now the issue is, what is the object of our faith, and who is the object of our faith? And I want you to come to an understanding that the ultimate direction of your faith is always in me.
Now, when you go into the book of Ecclesiastes, you have none of that information available to you. This is a man who took time in life, and it’s important to observe things. You know, a lot of times it’s important for us to observe things, isn’t it? We go through life and we observe things. I’ve observed that normally, if you smile at somebody, they’ll smile back at you. There’s a lot of things that you can observe in life that that you need to observe instead of just going through fat, dumb and happy, is to observe some things. And this is exactly what Solomon has done. He’s observing everything. A very curious man. I think curiosity, quite frankly, is the key to education. I think it’s a key to smartness in school. What I always noticed in school again, observed that some of the smartest kids were the Jewish kids. And you know where the Jewish kids always sat in school, in my observation, right on the front row, just absorbing everything. Curious, very curious, very curious people, and they were good students. Bud do you ever find that curiosity going to produce strong kids? And so he was curious about people. And so these are just some of the observations that he is made as it relates to a person that has everything. This is Solomon. He has everything in abundance that is available to man, and yet he said it’s all empty.

Guys, we have set this week a very, very interesting week. We lost Farrah Fawcett. Farrah Fawcett, one of Charlie’s Angels, at one time, probably one of the most beautiful and young actresses in television. On Charlie’s Angel. Beautiful head of hair, beautiful girl, popular actress, dies loaded down with alcohol. You had Ed McMahon, the number two man on the Johnny Carson Show, probably the best known announcer in television that’s ever been. A funny guy, nice guy, recognizable. Amy and I were in New York one time, saw him on the street, knew immediately who he was. We live in Texas. He lives in New York, knew immediately who he was. Died, losing his home in bankruptcy, and then we have Michael Jackson and for four solid days, we’ve heard tributes to Michael Jackson. Prior to his death, he never heard about him. When he was going through all those molestation things, the media was beating the daylights out of him, and the minute he dies, you would think the Messiah had died. But I want to tell you something. None of that means anything to Michael, none of that means anything to Farrah. None of that means anything to Ed McMahon. They’re gone. And the issue is, where are they? Where are they? Because all of the fame and fortune means nothing, and in every one of those cases, they were plagued with sin, either alcohol, drugs or both, or or child molestation or whatever it is, plagued with sin, popular, rich at one time, but as empty as a pork barrel. You had Elvis Presley, the same thing, probably one of the most popular and famous singers that this world will ever know, and yet died desperately of alcohol, couldn’t help from feeling sorry for him, but that’s how they die meaningless. And he would have told you, life is meaningless. I got popularity. I can sing if people know who I am, Meaningless, meaningless. You know what people do in that? Try to escape people, try to get away from them, where they died, to get popular so people would know who I am. And the minute you get that, you can’t wait to get rid of them. Those are observations that you make in life, folks, the more you get, the more you want.
I remember when I was graduating from college, if you could make $12,000 a year, you were a rich man. If you could make 12,000 bucks a year, and I can remember my seeking that mark 12,000 bucks. Oh, if I make $12,000 I’d just be as happy as a hog in mud. Well, I remember the day I hit 24,000 or 12,000 and that day I was shooting for 24 that day, that day, and the day I hit 24 I was shooting for 50 and I’ll not go any further than that, but it just went up and up and up and up, just like they asked Rockefeller, how much money will it take to make you happy? Just a little bit more. And so folks, there is no contentment in life. We think there is. Marilyn Monroe, probably one of the most beautiful women that was ever in movies, died drug overdose. Died, miserable, miserable, miserable. Now, what is it, if that isn’t going to make you happy being a big movie star, everybody knows who you are. You can go to a movie and see yourself up on a big screen and look at your face and your body and just ooh. Nobody cares. Nobody cares.
I remember as a child, a young boy in our hometown, we had a Chrysler plant there, and one of the vice presidents of Chrysler was a friend of mine, of our families, and I was with my dad. As a young boy on the day that he died, and all of the executives were there comforting the wife. And do you know how they were comforting the wife standing around the corner, figuring out who we’re going to replace him with. And that’s all they talked about. Who are we going to replace him with? That’s how important he was alive today. Now who’s going to replace him? Same thing is true with you. When my doctor died, I got a new doctor. My lawyer died, get a new lawyer. Grocery Store goes broke, get a new grocery store. And that’s the way life is. Car breaks down, get a new one. And that’s life. Those are observations that you can make, if you will just be a little bit observant. That’s the observation you.
Get married thinking this girl is going to make me happy, we’ll see, or this man is going to make me happy. You see, you don’t get married, so they’ll make you happy. If you want a solid marriage, you’re going to get married to someone that you want to serve and love, regardless whether she makes you happy or not, or vice versa. It’s our observations. It’s what Solomon did, observations about life. He wants us to look at life realistically, guys, not with pie in the sky. We are so inclined to want to think pie in the sky. We’re so inclined to get these visions of what things should be like and then beat the devil out of people because they don’t perform the way we think it should be. Visions instead of just looking at reality. I’ll tell you what reality is, folks, we’re all fallen people. We are all people full of good things and bad things. Are we not? I have good points. I got bad points. But if you’re going to like me, you’re going to have to love me warts and all, because I got them and so do you. I got good characteristics and I got some bad ones. I got times that I do good, I got time so to do bad. That’s Is that true or not? Not just about me. I’m not talking about me, I’m talking about you. I’m just confessing what I’m doing. We have to understand the truth of this, and so does your mate, and so do your kids. We’re not We’re not perfect human beings, we’re fallen creatures, and we have to understand that as long as we’re going to live on this earth, you’re going to be living around fallen creatures. You’re going to be living around people who have faults, just like you are we right or wrong? There just isn’t anybody that’s real sweet all the time. We can act sweet at work, but what do when you get home? What do you do on the freeway getting home? So we have to understand the truth of this, guys, that there’s no one perfect out there. We’re fallen creatures. And so that’s an observation. That’s an observation that if you live long enough, you ought to figure it out. It’s, I don’t think that I’m married to a perfect, perfect person. Now, you don’t have to be a genius. I don’t think I’d be married over 5, 10 minutes to figure that out. But we need to figure it out. And we need to learn to say the issue is, am I going to be a forgiving person, or am I going to be resentful because they’re not performing the way I deserve to be treated?
Well, we’ve really had it this week, and we’ve seen to me, at least, you see the futility three very, very popular at one time, wealthy people who were dead, dead, and the best that could happen is the media coverage. I think of people back in my generation, people you probably some of you will not even know who I’m talking about, Perry Como. Does anyone remember even Frank Sinatra? He’s going to go by the wayside too, gone. I think when Perry Como died, there was an article in a paper about that big he was one of the most popular singers in America at that time. So guys, you know, I got people who live to make a legacy. Say so you got your name on a building. Are you going to know anything about that? I mean, you’re going to look down heaven say, Hey, look at that building down there, my name down there on. You’re gone. You’re gone. I’ll tell you a legacy you can leave that you led someone to the Lord.
You see, it doesn’t make any difference where you are or who you are. You’re somebody, and you’re out there in the harvest field of life. And when you’re in the harvest field of life, you’re around people all the time. And if you and I are truly born again, and we have come to understand what our purpose is, I know who I am. My purpose is to be available to the living Christ who lives in and through me. Then you have an opportunity of being an ambassador for Christ, Jesus, wherever you are 24 hours a day. There is no such thing as you not being able to have a ministry unless you isolate yourself in your house and never get out. Because if you’re available to the living Christ, He will put one opportunity in front of you after another after another. And guys, you don’t have to be Mr. Glib to share Christ. You can just share what he’s done in your life.
I can remember in my early experience of coming to Christ, I was so unbelievably excited about the fact that I had been born again, because I had searched for 36 years, I had tried and achieved a certain degree of success of climbing up this ladder and working for acceptance and working for success and working for money and and all of that type of thing, to find the emptiness of it. I remember thinking to myself when I was in Los Angeles and had this warehouse and pretty good sized business going. And I thought, gee, this is what I sought all my life, but I’m still empty inside. And so I went down, opened up a branch in San Diego, and after a while, was going to go up to northern California for another branch. Nothing was satisfied. And I kept going out. It had branches all over the place. It looked like a tree, idiot. Because nothing satisfied, nothing satisfied. You can have nice cars, have a nice house, have a wonderful wife, had beautiful kids, nothing satisfied. Now when you’re curious and you ask questions, my question to God was, what is it all about? What is this all about Lord? I saw my dad dying in front of my eyes. Dad had worked all of his life, and now he’s dying. What’s it all about? And it just tugs at your heart. What’s it all about? Why am I here? What meaning is there for down here?
