Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P38 (01-14-25)

I Speak the Truth in Christ. Do You?

~ “I speak the truth in Christ. I am not lying.” Romans 9:1
It’s amazing how one verse of scripture can make a difference in our lives. Are you are Truth teller in Christ Jesus? Paul told it like it is all the time. He was adamant on telling of TRUTH. And that’s what happens to you when you have been changed from the inside. You want to tell people Truth. You want to share with people Truth. And the TRUTH is Jesus, God Himself. When you are sharing Jesus, you are sharing TRUTH with people. Jesus’ name is TRUTH. And TRUTH does not change based on if it feels comfortable or not. Truth will always divide, and many times people cannot handle the Truth because in their pride they think they actually know the truth.

When you know Truth, and He begins the process of renewing your mind, you will find out that the TRUTH will overwhelm you. You will begin to see things with God’s eyes, and hear things with God’s ears, and ALL things will change. And if you obey Truth (believing in Him, Jesus for everything), then all things become new to you. Things will pop out of the word of God, and you will be like, “Why didn’t I see that before? How in the world did I miss that?” And you will want to thank Him over and over again for everything that He has done for you and is doing in and through you, and the Truth that He is giving you. AND, you will want to be a TRUTH teller.

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

~ I speak the truth in Christ. I am not lying. My conscience testifies for me in the Holy Spirit 2that my grief is great, and unceasing sorrow is in my heart. For I could wish myself to be a curse, separated from Christ for my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh, who are Israelites, whose is the divine adoption as sons, and the glory, and the covenants, and the lawgiving, and the service, and the promises; whose are the patriarchs; and from whom is Christ according to the flesh, being God over all, blessed to the ages. Amen.

And it is not as that the word of God has failed. For not all who are of Israel, are these Israel. Nor because they are seed of Abraham are all children. Rather, “In Isaac your offspring will be named.” That is, the children of the flesh, these are not children of God; but the children of the promise are regarded as offspring. For this is the word of the promise: “At this time I will come, and to Sarah there will be a son.”

And not only so, but also Rebecca, having conception by one, Isaac our father, for they not yet having been born nor having done anything good or evil, so that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of the One calling, it was said to her, “The older will serve the younger.” As it has been written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

What then shall we say? Is there injustice with God? Never may it be! For He says to Moses:

“I will show mercy to whom I may show mercy,

and I will have compassion on whom I may have compassion.”

So then, it is not of the willing, nor of the running, but of God showing mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “For this very purpose I have raised you up, so that I might show My power in you, and that My name should be declared in all the earth.” So then, He shows mercy to whom He wants, and He hardens whom He wants. Romans 9:1-18

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ And so we start off in chapter nine, I speak the truth in Christ. Now, Paul has just finished in chapter eight, talking about probably the most beautiful chapters in all the Bible. Nothing can separate you from the love of God. Nothing can. Death can’t, when you’re absent from the body, you’re immediately present with the Lord. Death can’t separate you. Life can’t separate you. Trials and tribulations can’t separate you. The present, nor the future, height, depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate you from the love of God. Now, folks, that is something we need to get a hold of and to latch on to and to hang on to. As Paul said, I’m convinced of this truth, and that’s what he wants you and I to be convinced of something nothing can separate me from the love of God. If I die, I’m absent from the body, present with the Lord. I can’t lose. For me to live is Christ. For me to die is gain. We cannot lose. Nothing can separate us from the presence and the love of God that is ours in Christ, Jesus. Now he’s saying about the Hebrews here, the Arab world or the Gentile world, begin to accept the gospel. And Paul at one time in his at the end of his ministry, in the last chapter of the book of Acts, he finally said, I’m through talking to you people, in essence, you’re stubborn, you’re you’re you’re indignant. I’m going to the Gentiles. They will listen. So the Gentiles did listen, and the Arab world. Listen, we don’t realize that much of the Arab world that we’re finding today were originally Christians. There was a strong Christian nations, and so they accepted the Hebrews rejected. Here, God came to the Hebrew, and his Messiah came to the Hebrew, and he came into his own, and his own received Him not, but to those who received him, he gave the right to become what children of God. That is your identity. If you’re in Christ, you’re not a Baptist or a Presbyterian or a Methodist, those are all man made stuff. You’re a child of God, and you’ll be one of those throughout eternity, and we don’t like that identity. See, we’re like Smuckers with a name like Smuckers, it’s gotta be good. So you just, so you just put a label on Yama Smuckers. I’m one of those Smucker Christians, and so it doesn’t make any difference what’s in the bottle, that it’s irrelevant. It’s what’s on the label that counts. And so we walk around all puffed up because I’m a Baptist or a Presbyterian or a Methodist. God didn’t say Presbyterians or Methodists or Baptists. He only saved people, and he called you children of God, not Baptists or People to Peopleers or anything else. He called you children of God. And the only people that are children of God are those who come to Him by faith in the Son of God, not through Allah, not through Mohammed, not through Buddha, not through the Pope, not through Wesley, but through Jesus. It’s a practical issue guys. When you’re dead, you need life. You tell me that Mohammed gave you life. He’s dead. Buddha gave you life? He’s dead. Pope give you life? He looks like he’s dead. They cannot give you life. There’s only one person who can give life to the dead, that’s the resurrected Christ. Why do we rebel against this? We need to come to our senses. You’re dead if you don’t have Jesus. That’s not a religious issue. It’s a very practical issue.” ~ Bob George

Well, let’s turn together to Romans. We’re going to be bouncing around a little bit today, as I want us to have a very firm understanding of what’s being taught here in the ninth chapter of the book of Romans. Before we do that, I want to go back to the first chapter, and the reason for doing that is to establish again why this book was written. In the first chapter, Paul says, Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle and set apart, and literally, that’s permanently set apart for the gospel of God. The gospel that he promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who, as to his human nature, was a descendant of David, and who, through the Spirit of holiness, was declared with power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Through him and for his name’s sake, we received grace and apostleship, to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ, to all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints.

In the plan of God was for him to come to this earth, to be born out of the bloodline of David, the Hebrew bloodline. And the only true representative of God on the face of the earth at that time were the Hebrews. Now, folks, we look today at Gentiles as us, but back in those days, you had the Hebrews, and in essence, you had the Arabs, just like you do today. You have living in that part of the country, Arabs, and you have Hebrews. And I’ve said to you before that from God’s vantage point, there are only three kinds of people on the earth. There’s the Hebrew, there’s the Gentile. Back in those days, Arabs now to include the whole world, but I want us to begin to think of the Arab world, just as you would see today if you went into Israel and into that part of the world, which I’m glad that the world is focused on that part of the world, because it helps us with this to see the Arab world and the Jewish world, which are in total conflict with each other, are they not? And that is the way it was back then. That was the world that they knew. They didn’t have television back then, they didn’t have jet airlines that flew all over the place. Their world was this Arab world, and in the midst of that Arab world were the Hebrews and Israel. And I want us to keep that in mind. So Paul was writing to the Gentile world and saying to them, and I’m going to explain to you in this book of Romans, that God came to save you Gentiles the same way that I came to save the Hebrews. That was an unthinkable thought to the Hebrew world. They were the representative of the one true God on the face of the earth, we, and we’re a different breed of Gentiles. But back then, the Gentile world as it is today, were heathenistic. We were idol worshipers. Our if we go back to our roots, it isn’t real good and and so that was the contrast between the Hebrews, representing the one true God on the face of this earth, and the Gentile world that were total idol worshiping people. Now the thought that these Gentiles, or to look back in those days, these Arabs, who have no religion except heathenistic, would come to salvation the same way that we Hebrews, who have been promoting God, talking about God, carrying out all of his plans for us, they have been doing nothing, and you’re saying that they are going to be saved identically the way that we are? And the answer to that is you got. It, that’s exactly right. Well, why? Because we’re, you know, what you hear today, I’m a good person. No, there isn’t anybody good except God, and so quit walking around saying, you know, don’t you hear that all the time. Basically, I’m a good person. Now, I take drugs and I kill people, but basically, I’m a good person, and we hear that all the time. Jesus said there isn’t anybody good except God. In fact, he said, Don’t call me good unless you want to call me God, because only God is good. So that kind of puts us where we belong, and to recognize that we’re saved not because we’re good, but we’re saved by the grace of God by what? Faith and faith alone, and that’s what this introduction is saying. He’s talking about salvation to the Gentiles as well as the Hebrews, by what? Faith and faith alone.

And so we start off in chapter nine, I speak the truth in Christ. You’re dead if you don’t have Jesus. That’s not a religious issue. It’s a very practical issue.

Now, why would you want to be and remain dead. It’s stupid. When God said, I came to give you life. I am the way and the truth and the life. He who has the Son has life. I am the resurrection and the life and whosoever believes in me, though he were dead as a hammer, it’s a little added into there. I came to give you life. There is no life apart from the resurrected Christ. Now he entered right into that Arab Hebrew world, just like today. Went over there today, talking to people, and he presented this gospel to the Hebrews. And folks, 1000s of them received it, but the leadership didn’t. The leadership was anti christ, just like today. So he went to the Arab world. He went to the Gentile world with the gospel, and they’re accepting it. Now. Paul was HEBREW, and Paul’s heart was absolutely broken because of the rejection by his own people of this Messiah. His heart was broken, and you’re going to hear in these words, the brokenness of his heart, the depth of his love for his people, as he says, My, I’m not lying. My conscience confirms it. In the Holy Spirit, I have great sorrow and unceasing, unceasing anguish in my heart. It never stops in my heart for I wish. Now look at Sunday. I want to talk you talk about somebody that loves your people. Look what he’s saying here. I wish that I myself were cursed and cut off for Christ. Now here’s a man who knew that his entire eternal life was based upon his relationship with Christ, and he said, but I would literally give it up. If my people would come to Jesus. You talk about love. Would you do that? Someone came to you and said, Would you give up your relationship with Christ for other people? Say, No, no, sure wouldn’t gotten any more questions for me. Paul said I’d do it for the sake of my brothers of my own race. That’s the HEBREW race, the people of Israel. Now, were there other people in Israel besides HEBREWS? Were there? Well, of course, that’s where the Arabs lived. The Hebrews, the Arabs, everybody lived there, just like today. So he said, for my own people of Israel. Now, he said, Here’s the reason, theirs is the adoption as sons of the divine glory.

Now I’m going to pause here for just a minute. You remember, as we have talked about, what is predestination and what is foreknowledge and what is choosing in the scriptures, and how that, if you will go to the book of Ephesians, you will see a total explanation of that wonderful truth, that what predestination is that God predestined, that the Gentiles would come to Christ the same way the Hebrews with introduction to the book of Romans, we just read it, and that predestination is not that I chose you, but I don’t choose you, and that I like you, but I don’t like you. That’s nonsensical doctrine that is promoted in many, many so called intellectual circles today, and you will see that among Reformed theology, and it is nonsense that we would have a God who would say, I’m going to choose you for salvation, but I don’t like you. I’m going to choose you for damnation. It’s an insult to a God that we just read that nothing can separate you from his love.

Bob George 14:12
When you’re talking about predestination and election and choosing, you’re talking about Hebrew and Gentile. When I went to the book of Ephesians, and in I’m just going to go over there. You can go over with me if you want to into the book of Ephesians as it starts in chapter one, verse three, praise be to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Him before the creation of the world, to be holy and blameless in his sight, in love, He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the pleasure of His will to the praise of His glorious grace which He has freely given us in the one he loves. In the book of Ephesians, you’re going to see back and forth Hebrew and Gentile. Over inchapter 2:11 therefore remember that formerly you who are Gentiles from birth and call. The uncircumcised. Remember, at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel, foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope, without God in the world. But now Christ, Jesus, you were who But now in Christ, Jesus, you who are far away, have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

Now, where I read up, here at the beginnings, where he said that we were predestined to be adopted as his sons. And that is a reason, as you listen to the teaching on that, that I pointed out the fact that this was to the Hebrew, the adopted as his sons was to the Hebrew. And the reason for it is just what we read over here. And we’ll go back now to chapter nine in Romans. The reason is theirs. We’re talking about the Hebrews. Theirs is the adoption as sons, the very same word so the Hebrews were called the adoption as sons. Theirs is the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the Law, the temple worship and its promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them the Hebrews is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all forever praised. It is not as though God’s Word had failed. So again, you’re saying, and you have people today is say, well, it was God’s will that everybody should be saved. So if that doesn’t take place, well, then God’s failed. Well, that’s also nonsensical teaching that all people are saved. When Paul says that I would give up on salvation if my people would be saved, I don’t know how anybody could come up with that nonsensical teaching that everyone’s saved. And yet, there are people who are teaching that today. I don’t understand how a person get their minds messed up to teach that, but they’ve doing they’re doing it, and it shows you how easily the Bible says we are to be deceived. And folks, this is the reason that for the years that we have been in this ministry, over 25 years, that I have never varied from the foundation of Christ, Jesus, and I have taught you foundational truths for all of these years without wavering. Because if your foundation is off, your house is going to fall down. And if your foundation gets off just a little bit, you’re going to go off. And every harebrained thing that comes down the pike. And that’s what’s happening today. People are not convinced of the foundations, and therefore off they go. And people are going off into every direction. People who say, I understand grace, go off in all directions. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff that people come up with that we’ve trained. Now, hopefully the Word of God hadn’t failed. It’s not the word of God, it’s us, and that’s what he’s saying here. Don’t blame the Word of God. Don’t blame God on this. He knows what he’s talking about, but you don’t know what he’s talking about. And the reason we don’t know what he’s talking about is we don’t depend on the Spirit of God to reveal it to us, because unless the Spirit of God reveals the meaning of the word of God, we don’t know the meaning of the word of God. And that’s why all of these different doctrines are off.

That’s why people are off in Zulu land, every year you come up with a new hobby horse. I thought we’re out of hobby voices until we hit the prayer of jabeth. And I hope none of you have gone off on that kind of stuff. What in the world is the prayer of jabeth, and yet you got people there praying broadened by horizons. Big deal was that to you? That wasn’t to you, and that’s what goes on with people. We go off in all kinds of hare brain ideas why our foundation isn’t solid. We must have and remain a solid foundation. And there is no foundation except who Christ. And I hope, as long as I have breath to teach, that I will never get off of this foundation. It’s not the word of God, it’s failed. It’s us. Now he’s saying for not all who are descendant from Israel are Israel. Not all people that are from Israel are Israel, nor because they are all his descendants, are they all Abraham’s children. Even though he was the father of we’re going to study that a minute of both who? The Hebrew and who else? The Gentile, through Ishmael and Isaac or Jacob.

On the contrary, it’s through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. Your offspring ain’t going to be reckoned through Ishmael. Only through the child of promise, who is a child of promise? No, in here, who’s a child. Out of promise Isaac, not Ishmael, they, they took things in their own hands, didn’t they? I’m sure that didn’t bother Abraham too much, but Sarah suggested it, and Hagar probably looked pretty good. And so they went on their own in the energy of their own flesh. And had Ishmael, did they not? Not a child of promise. Isaac was a child of promise. So he said that the world will be reckoned through Isaac. In other words, it’s not the natural children who are God’s children, but it’s the children of promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. In other words, you’re not saved because you’re a Hebrew, you’re not saved because you’re a Gentile. You’re saved because you have become what? A child of a living God, guys, that’s your identity. That’s who you are, a child of the living God. Now he says, For this was how the promise was stated. At the appointed time, I will return and Sarah will have a son.

Now I want us to go back, and we do that back to chapter four, and the reason I’m doing this again, this is merely a reminder, because after you go from four to 5,6,7, and 8, you’re going to get off of what this is all about. But you see nine is trying again to state to the Hebrew and Gentile that salvation is going to come through faith and faith alone, it isn’t going to come because Abraham is your father, because he’s the father of both the Hebrew who, at least their leadership, worshiped the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the Arab world that ultimately went into all kinds to ultimately into the Muhammad religion.

Now he says here, what shall we say then that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter, what should we say that he said? In fact Abraham was justified. If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, then he had something to boast about, but not before God. What’s the scripture say? It says, Abraham believed God and it was credited in him as righteousness. Now, when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift. When you work, you don’t say, Here, I’ll give you your paycheck as a gift. You’ve earned it, haven’t you, but as an obligation. So there’s an obligation of an employer that if you make a deal with an employee to work, and he works, and you’ve made a deal as to how much you going to pay him, you pay him. It’s an obligation. It’s not a gift. However, to the man who does not work but trust God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness. That’s the only way you’re ever going to be declared righteous, in the sight of God, is by faith in the Lord Jesus. David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of a man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works, and he quotes, Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven and whose sins are covered? Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him, I’d say blessed is that man. Is this blessed only for the circumcised? Now, again, guys, who’s the circumcised? The Hebrews, we have been saying that Abraham’s faith was credited to him as righteousness. Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised or before? You see there, get into this work, still, you got to be circumcised to be saved. Said, Hold on a minute. Was Abraham credited as righteous before he was circumcised, or after he was circumcised? What’s the answer to that? You don’t even have to look before.

It was not after, but before, and he received the sign of circumcision, which was a seal of righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then he is the father of all of all of us who believe, the Hebrew and Gentile alike, who believe but have not yet been circumcised. Now, once again, what took place in the early days were Gentile Christians got saved. The Hebrews thought that they had all the information, and immediately the Judaizers would go into those cities where Paul went to proclaim the good news of the gospel and try to put them back under Hebrew law, and they were told that unless Gentile you were circumcised, you cannot be saved. And he’s addressing this issue. So he says he is also the father of the circumcised, who are not only the circumcised. Would also walk in the footsteps of the faith of our father, Abraham, had before he was circumcised. So you’re talking about salvation through Abraham all the way down, was by faith and faith alone. And it was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but it was through the righteousness that comes by faith. It’s not through the law. Law wasn’t there yet. Moses wasn’t here yet. For if those who live by the law are heirs, they’re the only ones who are heirs, then faith has no value and the promise is worthless. If you are living under the law. Paul says you’re under a curse. Well, how many religions keep you under a law to the point where you’ve ever walked away from it, you would be fearful of losing your life? Now, that’s bondage, folks.

If those who live by the law are heirs, then faith has no value, and the promise is worthless because the law brings what? Wrath. You want to be under the law of God. If you do, you’re under a curse. Can you separate the law from the punishment of the law folks? I mean, if, if you had a traffic sign out there to drive 35 and you were driving 65 and the policeman called you over and say, Hey, you were going 65 but there’s no ticket for it, we’d say, Thank you, officer. Get out of the way so I can get home a little faster than normal. But if there’s a ticket and there’s a punishment, then the law has meaning. If there’s no punishment, it has no meaning. Are we right or wrong? So the if you are living by the law, Faith doesn’t have a value to you, and the promise is worthless because the law brings wrath, and where there’s no law, there is no transgression.
