Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P39 (01-15-25)

Faith Has No Value to Those That Are Trying to Live Under Law

~ "For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world was not given through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. For if those who live by the law are heirs, faith is useless and the promise is worthless, because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression.

Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may rest on grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the presence of God, in whom he believed, the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being what does not yet exist." Romans 4:13-17

To the person that thinks they are following the law, Faith means NOTHING to them. It’s useless and the promise from God is worthless to them. Most have no clue what Faith even is. They create, from their own imagination of what faith is, and the teachers of the law simply keep spitting out the lies of Satan which continues on with the lies upon other lies. The people sitting in the pews are dead, and haven’t a clue for themselves what True faith is either. And note this, that every key word in the word of God has been changed in meaning or watered down so as to not rock the boat with people. Satan doesn’t want you to know the meaning of the word of God. So he sends his agents into the world to make sure you hear his lies instead of the TRUTH of the word of God. And so, people have faith in their faith instead of in the Truth of the real words of God. They even refuse to read the word of God for themselves, or do a word study that is at everyone’s fingertips today, and they have no excuse. Most would rather watch a movie or TV show instead of reading the word of God, and coming to the knowledge of TRUTH.

Today, most people who think they are saved, are still dead in their unbelief. They do NOT have the Holy Spirit living in them. They have NOT placed faith in the True Jesus of the Scriptures. They have replaced the True Jesus with a Jesus of their own imaginations. And they will even tell you that by saying something like, “here’s what I believe,” as though what they believe takes preference over TRUTH, or they will give lip service to the word of God when you actually repeat the TRUTH back to them. They will many times get angry with you, and disagree with what you are sharing with them and what they are hearing from the word of God. Understand this, that they are not arguing against you, but they are arguing directly with God Himself. For when you share Truth with someone that is in opposition to Truth, they will try and justify their own thinking, and use more lies to cover up Truth.

We see the feedback from many proud people from the word of God when Jesus, TRUTH in the flesh, shares Truth with those around him. Reminder, most wanted to crucify Him, and indeed they followed through with that. Nothing has changed today. Most are not willing to listen to TRUTH.

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

~ I speak the truth in Christ. I am not lying. My conscience testifies for me in the Holy Spirit 2that my grief is great, and unceasing sorrow is in my heart. For I could wish myself to be a curse, separated from Christ for my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh, who are Israelites, whose is the divine adoption as sons, and the glory, and the covenants, and the lawgiving, and the service, and the promises; whose are the patriarchs; and from whom is Christ according to the flesh, being God over all, blessed to the ages. Amen.

And it is not as that the word of God has failed. For not all who are of Israel, are these Israel. Nor because they are seed of Abraham are all children. Rather, “In Isaac your offspring will be named.” That is, the children of the flesh, these are not children of God; but the children of the promise are regarded as offspring. For this is the word of the promise: “At this time I will come, and to Sarah there will be a son.”

And not only so, but also Rebecca, having conception by one, Isaac our father, for they not yet having been born nor having done anything good or evil, so that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of the One calling, it was said to her, “The older will serve the younger.” As it has been written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

What then shall we say? Is there injustice with God? Never may it be! For He says to Moses:

“I will show mercy to whom I may show mercy,

and I will have compassion on whom I may have compassion.”

So then, it is not of the willing, nor of the running, but of God showing mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “For this very purpose I have raised you up, so that I might show My power in you, and that My name should be declared in all the earth.” So then, He shows mercy to whom He wants, and He hardens whom He wants. Romans 9:1-18

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ If those who live by the law are heirs, then faith has no value, and the promise is worthless because the law brings what? Wrath. You want to be under the law of God. If you do, you’re under a curse. Can you separate the law from the punishment of the law folks? I mean, if, if you had a traffic sign out there to drive 35 and you were driving 65 and the policeman called you over and say, Hey, you were going 65 but there’s no ticket for it, we’d say, Thank you, officer. Get out of the way so I can get home a little faster than normal. But if there’s a ticket and there’s a punishment, then the law has meaning. If there’s no punishment, it has no meaning. Are we right or wrong? So if you are living by the law, Faith doesn’t have a value to you, and the promise is worthless because the law brings wrath, and where there’s no law, there is no transgression.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:29
When you’re talking about predestination and election and choosing, you’re talking about Hebrew and Gentile. When I went to the book of Ephesians, and in I’m just going to go over there. You can go over with me if you want to into the book of Ephesians as it starts in chapter one, verse three, praise be to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Him before the creation of the world, to be holy and blameless in his sight, in love, He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the pleasure of His will to the praise of His glorious grace which He has freely given us in the one he loves. In the book of Ephesians, you’re going to see back and forth Hebrew and Gentile. Over inchapter 2:11 therefore remember that formerly you who are Gentiles from birth and call. The uncircumcised. Remember, at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel, foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope, without God in the world. But now Christ, Jesus, you were who But now in Christ, Jesus, you who are far away, have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

Now, where I read up, here at the beginnings, where he said that we were predestined to be adopted as his sons. And that is a reason, as you listen to the teaching on that, that I pointed out the fact that this was to the Hebrew, the adopted as his sons was to the Hebrew. And the reason for it is just what we read over here. And we’ll go back now to chapter nine in Romans. The reason is theirs. We’re talking about the Hebrews. Theirs is the adoption as sons, the very same word so the Hebrews were called the adoption as sons. Theirs is the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the Law, the temple worship and its promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them the Hebrews is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all forever praised. It is not as though God’s Word had failed. So again, you’re saying, and you have people today is say, well, it was God’s will that everybody should be saved. So if that doesn’t take place, well, then God’s failed. Well, that’s also nonsensical teaching that all people are saved. When Paul says that I would give up on salvation if my people would be saved, I don’t know how anybody could come up with that nonsensical teaching that everyone’s saved. And yet, there are people who are teaching that today. I don’t understand how a person get their minds messed up to teach that, but they’ve doing they’re doing it, and it shows you how easily the Bible says we are to be deceived. And folks, this is the reason that for the years that we have been in this ministry, over 25 years, that I have never varied from the foundation of Christ, Jesus, and I have taught you foundational truths for all of these years without wavering. Because if your foundation is off, your house is going to fall down. And if your foundation gets off just a little bit, you’re going to go off. And every harebrained thing that comes down the pike. And that’s what’s happening today. People are not convinced of the foundations, and therefore off they go. And people are going off into every direction. People who say, I understand grace, go off in all directions. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff that people come up with that we’ve trained. Now, hopefully the Word of God hadn’t failed. It’s not the word of God, it’s us, and that’s what he’s saying here. Don’t blame the Word of God. Don’t blame God on this. He knows what he’s talking about, but you don’t know what he’s talking about. And the reason we don’t know what he’s talking about is we don’t depend on the Spirit of God to reveal it to us, because unless the Spirit of God reveals the meaning of the word of God, we don’t know the meaning of the word of God. And that’s why all of these different doctrines are off.

That’s why people are off in Zulu land, every year you come up with a new hobby horse. I thought we’re out of hobby voices until we hit the prayer of jabeth. And I hope none of you have gone off on that kind of stuff. What in the world is the prayer of jabeth, and yet you got people there praying broadened by horizons. Big deal was that to you? That wasn’t to you, and that’s what goes on with people. We go off in all kinds of hare brain ideas why our foundation isn’t solid. We must have and remain a solid foundation. And there is no foundation except who Christ. And I hope, as long as I have breath to teach, that I will never get off of this foundation. It’s not the word of God, it’s failed. It’s us. Now he’s saying for not all who are descendant from Israel are Israel. Not all people that are from Israel are Israel, nor because they are all his descendants, are they all Abraham’s children. Even though he was the father of we’re going to study that a minute of both who? The Hebrew and who else? The Gentile, through Ishmael and Isaac or Jacob.

On the contrary, it’s through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. Your offspring ain’t going to be reckoned through Ishmael. Only through the child of promise, who is a child of promise? No, in here, who’s a child. Out of promise Isaac, not Ishmael, they, they took things in their own hands, didn’t they? I’m sure that didn’t bother Abraham too much, but Sarah suggested it, and Hagar probably looked pretty good. And so they went on their own in the energy of their own flesh. And had Ishmael, did they not? Not a child of promise. Isaac was a child of promise. So he said that the world will be reckoned through Isaac. In other words, it’s not the natural children who are God’s children, but it’s the children of promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. In other words, you’re not saved because you’re a Hebrew, you’re not saved because you’re a Gentile. You’re saved because you have become what? A child of a living God, guys, that’s your identity. That’s who you are, a child of the living God. Now he says, For this was how the promise was stated. At the appointed time, I will return and Sarah will have a son.

Now I want us to go back, and we do that back to chapter four, and the reason I’m doing this again, this is merely a reminder, because after you go from four to 5,6,7, and 8, you’re going to get off of what this is all about. But you see nine is trying again to state to the Hebrew and Gentile that salvation is going to come through faith and faith alone, it isn’t going to come because Abraham is your father, because he’s the father of both the Hebrew who, at least their leadership, worshiped the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the Arab world that ultimately went into all kinds to ultimately into the Muhammad religion.

Now he says here, what shall we say then that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter, what should we say that he said? In fact Abraham was justified. If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, then he had something to boast about, but not before God. What’s the scripture say? It says, Abraham believed God and it was credited in him as righteousness. Now, when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift. When you work, you don’t say, Here, I’ll give you your paycheck as a gift. You’ve earned it, haven’t you, but as an obligation. So there’s an obligation of an employer that if you make a deal with an employee to work, and he works, and you’ve made a deal as to how much you going to pay him, you pay him. It’s an obligation. It’s not a gift. However, to the man who does not work but trust God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness. That’s the only way you’re ever going to be declared righteous, in the sight of God, is by faith in the Lord Jesus. David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of a man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works, and he quotes, Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven and whose sins are covered? Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him, I’d say blessed is that man. Is this blessed only for the circumcised? Now, again, guys, who’s the circumcised? The Hebrews, we have been saying that Abraham’s faith was credited to him as righteousness. Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised or before? You see there, get into this work, still, you got to be circumcised to be saved. Said, Hold on a minute. Was Abraham credited as righteous before he was circumcised, or after he was circumcised? What’s the answer to that? You don’t even have to look before.

It was not after, but before, and he received the sign of circumcision, which was a seal of righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then he is the father of all of all of us who believe, the Hebrew and Gentile alike, who believe but have not yet been circumcised. Now, once again, what took place in the early days were Gentile Christians got saved. The Hebrews thought that they had all the information, and immediately the Judaizers would go into those cities where Paul went to proclaim the good news of the gospel and try to put them back under Hebrew law, and they were told that unless Gentile you were circumcised, you cannot be saved. And he’s addressing this issue. So he says he is also the father of the circumcised, who are not only the circumcised. Would also walk in the footsteps of the faith of our father, Abraham, had before he was circumcised. So you’re talking about salvation through Abraham all the way down, was by faith and faith alone. And it was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but it was through the righteousness that comes by faith. It’s not through the law. Law wasn’t there yet. Moses wasn’t here yet. For if those who live by the law are heirs, they’re the only ones who are heirs, then faith has no value and the promise is worthless. If you are living under the law. Paul says you’re under a curse. Well, how many religions keep you under a law to the point where you’ve ever walked away from it, you would be fearful of losing your life? Now, that’s bondage, folks.

If those who live by the law are heirs, then faith has no value, and the promise is worthless because the law brings what? So if you are living by the law, Faith doesn’t have a value to you, and the promise is worthless because the law brings wrath, and where there’s no law, there is no transgression.

Therefore the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all of Abraham’s offspring. Who’s he talking about there? Hebrew and Gentile alike, not only to those who are of the law, that’s the Hebrew, but those who are from faith in Abraham, he’s the father of us all. And it is written, I have made you a father of many nations. He is our Father in the sight of God whom he believed, and God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as if they were. Against all hope. Abraham and hope believed, and so became the father of many nations. Just as it had been said to him, so shall your offspring be without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead since he was about 100 years old, and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. And yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded. Here’s that word again, persuaded, convinced that God had power to do what he promised. He knew that God had the power to give birth. He didn’t. God did. And that is why it was credited to him as righteousness. The words it was credited to him were written not for him alone, but also for us, all of us to whom God will credit righteousness for us who believe in Him who raised Jesus, our Lord, from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins, and He was raised to life for our justification.

Now back to chapter nine. So he’s talking to the fact in chapter nine that all of us, that that, that because we’re descendants of Abraham, that we’re not all children of God. It’s only the children of promise, and it’s through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. It’s not the natural children who are God’s children, but the children of promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. For this was how the promise was stated. At the appointed time, I’ll return and Sarah will have a son. Now we go on. Not only that, but Rebecca’s children had one of the same father, our father, Isaac, Abraham. Isaac. Isaac was married to Rebecca, and Rebecca and Isaac had twins yet, before these twins were born or had done anything good or bad, in order that God’s purpose of election might stand not by works, but by him who calls. She was told the older will serve the younger, and just as it is written in Malachi, Jacob, I loved Esau, I hate it now. Let’s take a look at that. Go back with me to Genesis.

We’ll go back to Genesis 25. Now this will not be up on the screen, so you’ll just have to listen. We’ll go down to verse 24 no excuse me. Uh. Uh, we’ll go to verse 19. This is the account of Abraham’s son, Isaac. Abraham became the father of Isaac, and Isaac was 42 years old when he married Rebecca, a daughter. Talks about where she where she was a daughter of. Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf as his wife, because she was barren, The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife, Rebecca, became pregnant. The babies jostled within her, and she said, what is happening to me? So she went to inquire the LORD, And the Lord said, now here’s the issue, folks, and here, back again, is this Hebrew and Gentile thing that we have to keep in mind as it relates to this predestination and to election, God told her there are two nations in your womb, two nations. What are the two nations? Hebrew and Gentile. And two peoples from within, you will be separated. One people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger. When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. The first one came out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment. Must have been a sight to behold, and so they named him, Esau. After that, his brother came out with his hand grasping Esau’s heel, so he was named Jacob. Isaac was 66 years old when Rebecca gave birth to them. The boys grew up. Esau became a skillful Hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was a quiet man staying in the tents. In other words, one was out hunting, the other was in business. That sound familiar. Isaac, who had a taste of wild game, loved Esau, but Rebecca loved Jacob, and once, when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished, and he said to Jacob, quick, let me have some of that red stew. I’m famished. And that is why he is also called Edom. And Jacob reply, replied, give it as Jacob was crafty. He really, he really was. He said, Sell me your birthright first. You’re hungry. Want some stew. Sell me your birthright. Look, I’m about to die. Esau said, What good is a birthright to me? But Jacob said, swear to me first. So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob. And Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank and got up and left so Esau despised his birthright.

Now, what did God hate about Esau? Because he despised his birthright. It didn’t mean anything to him. I just want some soup. I’m hungry. Now that is why in Malachi, it says. Is that God and here again, is talking about the fact that God loved Jacob, but he hated Esau. He didn’t hate Esau. He hated the Esau that was willing to sell his birthright for a cup of soup. One was the son of promise. He was he was going, Jacob was going to be the perpetuation of salvation by faith. Esau was saying, Who cares about that stuff? I’m going my own way.

Well, what shall we say? Then? Is God unjust? Not at all. First he says, or for he says to Moses, I’ll have mercy on whom I have mercy and I have compassion, on whom I have compassion. Who does he have mercy toward? The ones who need mercy. Who does he have compassion on? The ones who need compassion. Folks the same sun that melts wax hardens clay, the identical sun, it’s not the fault of the sun, it’s the recipient. If your heart is made up of wax, the sun will melt it. If your heart is as hard as clay, the sun will harden it. So when it talks about that God hardened a heart, it’s like saying the sun hardened the clay, but the same sun also melted the wax. So it depends on whose heart the sun is falling on. And so it says that it does not depend, therefore, on man’s desire, but on God’s mercy. God’s mercy said, I will save the humble, and I will resist who? The proud. I will show mercy to the humble, but I will resist the proud. I will give salvation to the humble, but I will resist the proud heart that says, I don’t need Jesus. I don’t need him. I’m going to get there through my religion. I’m going to be good. And God says the heck you are. The proud heart rejects what God did when he sent his Son for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him would never perish, which means those who don’t will, but to have everlasting life. And the proud heart says, No, I don’t want to give up my religion. I don’t want to give it up. I said, Fine, you will die in hell.

It does not depend on man’s desire, but on God’s mercy. The Scripture said to Pharaoh, I raised you up for this purpose. He didn’t say you were born for that purpose. He said, You were born, I saw your heart and I raised you up for the very purpose that you might that I might display my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. Therefore God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden. Again. The sun, I will melt the wax. I will harden the clay. I will give grace to the humble. I will ignore the proud. Is that God’s choice to do that? Is that his will to do that? Is that okay to do that? One say to me, Why does God blame us, then, for who will resist His will? But you? Who are you? O man to talk back to God, shall what is formed, say to him who formed it? Why did you make me like this? Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes, another for common purposes? And again, that could also apply to the Hebrew and Gentile. Well, what if God choosing to show His wrath and make His power known born with great patience, the object of his wrath prepared before destruction? And again, I think you’re dealing near with the Gentile. What if he did this to make his riches of his glory, known to the objects of His mercy, to the Hebrew whom he prepared in advance for glory, even us, whom He also called, not only from the Hebrews, but also from the Gentiles. As he says in Hosea, I will call them my people who are not my people. I will call her my loved one, who are not my loved one. And it will happen at the very place where it said to them, You are not my people. They will be called sons of the living God.

You know, some people would rather be Hebrews than it would be Christians. I’m very serious. They just they’re not satisfied with being a child of God. Now here’s this whole book is dealing with there is no big deal about being a Hebrew and there’s no big deal about being a Gentile. What’s a big deal is being a child of God, your natural birth doesn’t mean a flip to me. What means something to me is your spiritual birth, and those are the and those alone are only children of God. I don’t care whether you grew up in Germany or Russia or where you are, you’re a child of God. Though the number of the Israelites may be like the sand of the sea, Only a remnant will be saved for the Lord will carry out his sentence on the earth with speed and finality. And just as Isaiah said previously, unless the Lord Almighty had left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom, and we would have been like Gomorrah. Well, what shall we say, then that the Gentiles? Now here’s the conclusion, folks, to this whole deal. What shall we say then, that the Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith, but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness has not attained it? Said, Yeah, you got it. You got it. Well, why? Why is that so? Well because the Hebrews pursued righteousness, not by faith, but, as it were, by works. And in so doing, they stumbled over the stumbling stone, as it is written, you see, I see it say, I lay in Zion a stone that will cause men to stumble and a rock that will make them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.
