Classic Christianity – Bob George – Easter Part 2 (04-22-25)

Bob George Presents: Easter Part 2

~ Jesus Prays For Every Single Believer in Him

~ When Jesus, God in flesh, prays for each of us, pay attention to the details. Jesus was praying that ALL future believers in Him, would be One with Him, as He and the Father are One. And for the True believer today, who has exercised Faith in Him, He lives in us through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And nothing can separate us from His Love, not even ourselves. For He has made us One with Him, the same way the Father is One with Jesus. Those without the Spirit cannot understand what this means. The depths of this cannot be understood by a mere Man without the Spirit of God living in them. And so, Jesus says:

—–

John 17:20-26
“I am not asking on behalf of them alone, but also on behalf of those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I am in You. May they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.

I have given them the glory You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one— I in them and You in Me—that they may be perfectly united, so that the world may know that You sent Me and have loved them just as You have loved Me.

Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, that they may see the glory You gave Me because You loved Me before the foundation of the world.

Righteous Father, although the world has not known You, I know You, and they know that You sent Me. And I have made Your name known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love You have for Me may be in them, and I in them.”

~

…..

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “He then returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. He said, Could you been not keep watch for me just one hour? He told he. Asked Peter, watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak. He went away a second time and prayed, My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away, unless I drink of it, may Your will be done. And when he came back, he again, found them sleeping because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed a third time, saying the same thing.” ~ Bob George

Welcome to Classic Christianity Radio with Bob George as we enter into Easter season, we are reminded how much we are loved and accepted by God. Jesus willingly died on the cross so that we could have complete forgiveness for our sins. So many people say that they were saved because their sins were forgiven, but that is only half of the gospel. Man is not merely saved by the death of Christ, but by the life of Christ. Romans 5:30 says that, For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his son, how much more having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life? Jesus came to give us life. He came to this earth to identify with us in our death, so that we could identify with him in his resurrection, join Bob George as he teaches us about the true meaning of the resurrection. Jesus Christ gave His life for us so that he could give his life to us so that he could live his life through us.

Bob George 1:14
Many people are trying to live a life that they don’t have. And then there are those of us who have a life that we don’t live. How much can you and I do apart from Jesus? Nothing. How much could Peter do apart from Jesus? Nothing. He was strong, he was big, he was bold. He loved the Lord, but he couldn’t do one thing apart from Jesus when the crunch came to life. How much can you and I do nothing? He said, even if I have to die, I’ll never disown you. He meant that. And Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, Sit here while I go over there and pray. He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me. Going a little further, he fell on his face to the ground, and he prayed, My Father, if it’s possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet, not as I will, but as you will. What was he praying? You see, what he was saying, take this cup from me. Was he just merely saying, Lord, I don’t want to die. No greater men, much lesser men than that, have been going to their death bed that haven’t sweat later, as we read, as it were, great drops of blood. But here was the Lord Jesus Christ, who knew no sin, the sinless Lamb of God, who literally had to take upon himself by transfer the sins of the entire world and every dirty, lousy thing that you and I have ever thought or done in our lives, or ever will do, and every man who has ever lived, and everything they’ve ever thought or done, all of that went upon Jesus.

In my early days of teaching as a brand new Christian, I was teaching in a Sunday school class with some teenagers, and I remember one little girl who said to me, she said, Mr. George, I don’t understand how Jesus would be sweating great drops of blood over over, going to be dying. And I said, Well, let’s and we talked about what we just now. And I said, one, ask you a question. I said, if, if someone told you tomorrow that you were going to have to die, be shot, or whatever it might be, do you think it would cause you to sweat, as it were great drops of blood? And this little teenager thought for a minute and said, No, I don’t think so. And I said, Okay, I don’t think so either. But let me ask you another question, if someone told you tomorrow that you were going to have to go out into a field and be molested by 100 guys and be made fun of and engaged in all kinds of illicit and evil sexual activities and everything else. What do you think had happened to you then? She said, I think I’d sweat, as it were, great drops of blood. And I said, there’s the difference. Jesus, on that cross, took upon Himself all of the vile sins that you and I would ever think of committing in our lives.

Well, so what was the Lord praying God, if there is any way to save these people apart from my having to become sin, taking upon myself the sins of the whole world, if there’s any way to save them, apart from doing that, do it. But Father, it’s not my will, but it’s yours be done. He knew there was no other way, if there is, if you’ve thought of anything since I’ve been here on Earth, come up with it. But however, not my will, but yours be done. And folks, that is an attitude that should be in our hearts as people who are born again, if we are indwelt by the living Christ and have his mind living in us, our attitude should be, Lord, not my will, but yours be done. That’s why I ask people, do you want your prayers answered or do you want God’s will for your life? Because the two are not necessarily the same.

He then returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. So he left them and went away once more and prayed a third time, saying the same thing.

Now, while he was speaking, Judas, one of the 12 arrived, and with him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. So who was sending Judas out? Chief Priests, religious people, the elders. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal for them, and here’s what he said, I’ll identify this Jesus by the one I go up and kiss. So the one I kiss is the man arrest him. And going at once to Jesus, Judas said, Greetings, Rabbi and kissed him. And Jesus replied, look at this guys, friend. Do what you come came for. What did he call him? Friend. Do you think Jesus knew what he was up to? Yeah, he knew what he was up to. You think Jesus probably had known what he was up to for three years. Yeah, he knew what he was up to, and yet, what do you call him? Friend. Remember Jesus says, I don’t call you a slave servant. I call you my friend, friend.

Well, then the man stepped forward. The men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him, and with that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear that was Peter, Put your sword back into its place. Jesus said to him, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. Now, here’s what he said about this whole occasion. Do you not think that I can call on my Father and he will at once put up my dispel so more than 12 legions of angels? Then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say that it must happen this way. At that time, Jesus said to the crowd, am I leading a rebellion. Now, folks in those days, there were rebellious Hebrews. There were Hebrews who were constantly organizing rebellions against Romans, and that’s why they did not the Romans did not like days of Passover and days like this, because of the hundreds of 1000s of Hebrews that were gathered in one place, and there was great potential danger there. So there were a lot of rebels around. Barabbas was one of those. So Jesus, it wasn’t an unusual question to say, Am I leading a rebellion? And he said, Am I leading a rebellion? Have you seen me out here picketing Washington that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Have you seen me doing this every day? Said, I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. In other words, you heard me there. Why didn’t you arrest me then? But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled. And at that moment, it said all of the disciples deserted him and fled, including who? Peter.

Now with this they then took from this location over to the Kidron Valley. Now that is a valley that goes from the Garden of Gethsemane over to the Jerusalem walls. They went to Caiaphas house. Now, many people believe it was at that place where Jesus, where Peter, also denied the Lord, and it’s probably so. So let’s talk about that. Those who were had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the and the elders had assembled. So who had assembled there? Well, all the teachers of the law, all the people, didn’t like Jesus. He didn’t agree with their interpretation. And you know how bad that is when someone doesn’t agree with your interpretation. But Peter followed him at a distance. See he was still following them, scared, but still following them right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guard guards to see the outcome. The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any, though, many false witnesses came forward. Now this is what always takes place. When someone wants to get you and they can’t get good information on you, why they dig up false information, and you can always do that. They could get people to pay them off in order to say things about the person, to try to get them crucified. Now finally, two people came forward and declared, now here’s what said. This fellow said, I’m able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days. Did Jesus say that? Did Jesus say that? Did he not say that, just as this temple that in three days and three nights, that this temple will be destroyed, but it will be rebuilt. But what was he talking about? Talking about himself.

So they said, well, we’ll get him on the temple. Well, the high priest stood up and said to him, are you going to answer? Jesus just stand there, probably looking at him like, boy, you dumb. What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you? In other words, he’s saying, What is this testimony? But Jesus remained silent, didn’t even answer. The High Priest said to him, I charge you under oath by the living God. Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God. Well, where did that come from? I thought the accusation was that I destroy the temple and build it. He said, No, Are you the Christ, the Son of God? And Jesus said, Yes, it is just as you say, But I say to all of you, in the future, you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Almighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven. And then the high priest tore his clothes. He has spoken blasphemy. Why do we need any more witnesses? This is a high priest now. He’s spoken blasphemy. Look, now you’ve heard this blasphemy. What do you think he is worthy of death. They answered. What do you think to people? What do you think about this? He’s worthy of death. It’s a nice punishment. Then you know what they did? It said they all spit in his face and they struck him with their fists, and others slapped him and said Prophesy to us, Christ, Who hit you?

Jesus said that He came that we might have life and have it abundantly. John, 10:10, yet the average professional Christian often says that there is nothing abundant about my life. I know that my sins are forgiven and that I am going to heaven, but I still experience doubts, fears, frustrations and defeat. Surely, there must be more to this Christian life. Bob George 13:57
Now folks, there’s, as you turn back into history, and you learn some of the things that people did back in those days. There was, and this is probably what was happening there was, where they actually would put a hood on top of some man and tie it and then bust him in the face and say, Who hit you that time? And then turn him around and somebody else bust him in the face and say, Who hit you that time? Prophet, you’re such a prophet. Tell us who it is. It’s hitting him. And it says that in Caiaphas house that he was beaten as no man. They spit in his face. It talks about in Isaiah, how they plucked his beard, they tortured him. And we saw that in Caiaphas house, where there was like a hole, a huge hole, where they would take a prisoner and put them down in a rope and have them down in that hole, no place to move. See nothing, and leave you there for torturing purposes, and then drag you back up again. There were, there was all kinds of torture that took place. Can you imagine walking up and spitting in the face of the Son of God, a man who had raised the dead, healed the blind, the most loving person who had ever walked on the face of this earth, but engendered such wrath because of what? Teaching truth, not error. Truth. See, he was called rabbi. He could have interpreted the laws just like the other rabbis, and he probably had been one of the biggest ones there, but he taught truth. He got underneath people’s skin to show us our own hypocrisy, and we don’t want to see that. We want, we want to function with people on the surface. Don’t get too close to me. Just let me fool you. Don’t get underneath my skin. And Jesus got underneath our skin, and it was uncomfortable, because you have to come to grips with yourself, but you see, if there is no if there’s no solution, when you have to come to grips with yourself, except form more religion. Come to church more. Pray more, read your Bible more, have more quiet time. That’s the best religion can offer to you. And you try that, don’t you? So you go to church and you tithe, then they tell you to do something else. So you go to the prayer meeting, then you go to visitation, and you try harder, and you try harder and you try harder, but nothing, there is nothing that can calm that heart, that thing that he said at the beginning, peace. You had peace in front of you, and you refused it. So all of those things is the best that the world and religion can offer to a man when you’re confronted with your own yuckiness. So they had no solution. You’re guilty. You go the Day of Atonement, kill a bull and a goat that doesn’t do it, something’s still rattling around inside of you. The reason Jesus wanted us to see the depths of our need was so that we would come to him for the provision for that need.

So they spit in his face, and they said, Prophesy to us, Christ, Who hit you. Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him and said, you also with Jesus of Galilee, she said. But he denied it before them all, I don’t know what you’re talking about, he said. And then he went out to the Gateway where another girl saw him and said to the people there, this fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth. He denied it again with an oath. I don’t know the man. After a little while, those standing went up to Peter and said, Surely you’re one of them, for your accent gives you away. You’ve got a Galilean accent. And then he began to call down curses on himself, and he swore to them, I don’t know the man. And immediately, a rooster crowed, just like the Lord had said. Now from Caiaphas house, after they had beaten him half to death. They took him over to Pilate’s house. That’s all the way across the city now. They dragged him from Caiaphas house through the streets all the way over to Pilate’s house in the streets in total humiliation, beaten half to death, obviously bleeding, and all of the things that would take place from people putting sacks on your face and beating you half to death, and all the other torturing that took place. Then he went before Pilate. The Judeans led Jesus from Caiaphas to the place of Roman governor. But now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanliness, the Judeans did not enter the palace. In other words, we’re bringing this guy over to kill him, but I want to do so in ceremonial. Don’t want to get involved in ceremonial and cleanliness. So they didn’t enter the palace. They wanted to be able to eat the Passover. Yeah, you know. So you can’t kill a guy too late if you want to eat the Passover.

It was very interesting that over in Jerusalem, in their elevators, they have a Shabbat elevator, a Sabbath elevator. And what that is is when the Sabbath comes five o’clock in the evening on Friday, why that elevator you get in it and it goes right up the top floor and then stops at every floor on the way down, because you can’t push a button on the Sabbath. That would be work, so you got to get in the elevator, and it just automatically goes up and down, because that would be constituting working on the Sabbath. Still, still to this day, that kind of stuff goes. So again, you can you see this? We do not want to be involved in anything ceremonial, unclean. I certainly want to eat the Passover, because that certainly is what God wants me to do. But I want to kill this guy before all that takes place. And that’s okay. Do you see why Jesus said you’re all clean on the outside, but dirty on the inside. Do you see what he’s talking about? The hypocrisy of man.

So Pilate came out to them and said, what charges are you bringing against this man? If he were not a criminal, they replied, we would not have handed him over to you. Boy. That’s the audacity that these people had. Is unbelievable. Pilate said, take him to yourselves and judging by your own law, what are you bringing them to me for? But we have no right to execute anyone. They replied, The reason we’re bringing to you is because you can execute we can’t. We want to do it before the Passover too. Now this happened so the words Jesus had spoken, indicating the kind of death he was going to die would be fulfilled. Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asking him, Are you the king of the Jews? And Jesus said, is that your own idea, or did some others talk to you about me? And he said, Am I a Judean? Pilate replied, It was your people and your chief priest who handed you over to me. What is it you’ve done? And Jesus said, My kingdom is not of this world. If it were my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Judeans. But now my kingdom is from another place. You are a king. Then said Pilate, And Jesus answered, You are right in saying that I am a king. In fact, for this reason, I was born, and for this I came into the world to testify to the truth, and everyone on the side of the truth listens to me. Pilate said, what is truth? Good question, isn’t it? What is truth? How would you and I ever know what truth was, if it wasn’t for Jesus who said, I am the truth, how would we ever know what truth was? And if he didn’t give us the Scripture and say, My Word is truth, how would we know? We wouldn’t. And so Pilate said, made a statement of absolute truth. What is truth? How are you ever going to know what truth is? And with this, he went out to the Judeans again. He said, I find no basis for charge against him, and I know what Pilate was thinking. He was thinking, but I’ll offer an alternative to keep this guy from being crucified, because I know they’re custom. So he said, Look, it’s your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at a time, at the time of the Passover. So do you want me to release the King of the Judeans? Or, in other words, or Barabbas? And they shouted back, No, not him. Give us Barabbas. We don’t want you to release Jesus. Give us Barabbas, the one who led revolts against Israel or against the Romans. Now Barabbas had taken part in rebellion.

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged, and they twisted together a crown of thorns, and they put it on his head. They clothed them in a purple robe, and then went up to him again and again, saying Hail King of the Judeans making fun of him, and they struck him in the face, beat him up a little bit more. Now, after Pilate had done this, so now he had been beaten by the Judeans. Now he had been beaten by the Romans once more. Pilate came out and said to the Judeans, look, I’m bringing him up to you to let you know that I find no basis of charge against him. Then they brought Jesus out wearing a robe, and you can imagine the sight of that bleeding crown of thorn on your head in a purple robe. And Pilate said, Behold the man. Here’s the man. Now, the answer, crucify.

Now I want to back up just a moment. Pilate sent him all the way back over to Herod’s place. Herod sent him all the way back over to Pilate’s place. That’s a lot of travel when you’re beaten after death. Now he’s back at Pilates. Pilate said to them, here’s the man. And they shouted, Crucify, crucify. But Pilate said, You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis of charge against him. Pilate was trying to get out of this thing. The Judeans insisted we have a law, and according to the law, he must die because he claimed to be the Son of God. When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid. Remember, his wife had also warned him have nothing to do with this man shows the manual. Listen to his wife. Now, when Pilate heard this, and he had just had his wife telling him that as well, he. He was even more afraid, and he went back inside the palace, and he said to Jesus, where do you come from? He asked Jesus, but Jesus gave no answer. And he says, Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you realize that I have the power to either free you or to crucify you. And Jesus said you would have no power over me at all if it were not given to you from above. You just think you got power, and therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.

From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Judeans kept shouting, and you can hear this over and over again. If you let this man go, you are no longer a friend of Caesar, and we’ll let Caesar know that anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar. So they were now starting to appeal to his fear of Caesar. You’re claiming, let this man go. He’s claiming to be a king, and that’s against Caesar, and you’re going to let him go. We’re going to let Caesar know about this. When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge’s seat at a place known as the stone pavement, which in Aramaic is Gabba. It was the day of preparation of the of the Passover week, about the sixth hour, here’s your king, he said. But they shouted, take him away. Take him away. Crucify Him. Kill him. He said, again, Shall I crucify your king? Said, we now listen to this religious leaders. We have no king except Caesar. The chief priest answered, and finally, Pilate handed them over to them to be crucified, and so the soldiers took charge of Jesus.
