Classic Christianity – Grow and Mature – Part 2 – 6-10-25

God Didn’t Consult With Anyone

~ Yet there are people today that think salvation is part of man’s doing. They think they ask God to save them and He saves them. They think we push God’s buttons in order to make him do something for us. Like God has to respond to what you and I request of God to do. Folks, we are not the initiators of anything to God. God is NOT a vending machine for anything. God is the initiator of everything and Man responds to God. Faith is properly responding to God. God set up salvation the way He wanted it to be. He draws ALL of Man to himself. The Holy Spirit is calling each and everyone of us to listen to Him. Most are not responding to God, because they are still asking for what He has already done at the cross. Most don’t believe their sins have been taken away at the cross. Because if they did, they would be thanking Him for what He did on the cross for them, and would preaching it boldly even in spite of those that refuse to believe it.

And many of you do indeed preach it with a boldness regardless of where the chips fall. Because you know in your heart that God has taken away all your sins at the cross, and he came and gave you Life that is eternal. Now He wants us to pay attention to ALL the details in the Word of God, for the details matter in everything. Read how God made the Earth and its foundations. The angels were watching God do that. And we know that Jesus is the One who spoke everything into existence. John chapter one for reference. He was God from the beginning and is the creator of Everything seen and unseen.

So rest in Him, and allow Him to tell you what to say, and when to say it. Don’t depend on self effort. Don’t depend on any Man, including yourself. Lean not on your own understanding.

~ 1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

2 “Who is this who obscures My counsel
by words without knowledge?

3 Now brace yourself like a man;
I will question you, and you shall inform Me.

4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding.

5 Who fixed its measurements? Surely you know!
Or who stretched a measuring line across it?

6 On what were its foundations set,
or who laid its cornerstone,

7 while the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Job 38:1-7

~ “I have written these things to you, the ones believing in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13

~ I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree together, so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be united in mind and conviction. My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: Individuals among you are saying, “I follow Paul,” “I follow Apollos,” “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.”

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul? I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized into my name. Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that I do not remember if I baptized anyone else. For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with words of wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 1 Corinthians 1:10-17

…..

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “God says, Okay, did we have anything to do with creation? No, did we have anything to do with salvation? No, he’s the initiator. We’re the responder. That’s why Jesus said I don’t do anything this unique. Jesus said I don’t do anything unless the Father tells me to do it. As a matter of fact, I don’t say anything unless the Father tells me to say it and how to say it. And incidentally, man, as the Father sent Me. So send I you. You got down there wearing bracelets. What would Jesus do? Well, you walk on water. Go, give it a whack. You’d raise the dead. Go, give that a try. I’m not to imitate the actions of Jesus. Jesus did what the father told him to do. What am I to do? Do what the Father tells me to do. I’m not there to imitate somebody else. I’m there to do what the Father is telling you to do. That’s what he said to Peter. What does it matter, Peter, if John lives forever, I’m telling you to follow me. What I do with John is my business. I’m telling you to follow me. And so he’s saying, quit being a man. Follower. Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into my name? And then Paul annihilates this idea that you got to be baptized in order to be saved. Do you know there’s churches that teach that if you aren’t baptized, in my church, in my denomination, by my pastor, you’re not saved really? Where you find that in the Scripture, Paul said, I’m glad I didn’t baptize anybody. Well, wait a minute, this baptism is as important as we’ve been made it to think it is, how could Paul, who is a writer of most of the New Testament, not too bad of a Christian. How could Paul have said, I’m glad I didn’t baptize anybody. Oh, Crispus and Gaius, I did. But outside of that, I didn’t baptize anyone. Why I wasn’t sent to baptize but to proclaim the gospel.” ~ Bob George

Do you know you have eternal life? The Bible just told you and how to get it. Church comes along says, Oh no, no, you can lose that. He got to bind your P’s and Q’s, and not only that, you better start a tithing. And boy, do we get into that every January, all you hear on the radio is tithing, tithing, tithing. Do you know guys? And I’m not saying what I’m saying, just to be adamant, it is not in the Bible. Tithing is not in the New Covenant. Now, if you don’t know the difference between the old and the new. Why? Then it all flows in together anyway. And quite frankly, you ought to come here on Saturday instead of Sunday and kill a bull and goat if you’re going to cherry pick and nitpick as to what you’re going to take out of the Old Testament and drag it into the new I’m saying, quit nit picking and bring it all over. Quit eating your pork chops. Quit eating your shrimp. And tithe guys, why am I as adamant on this tithing thing? Because it presents a speck of leaven that spoils the whole loaf. It’s a law that God said, I want you to die to was this building paid off because of us standing up telling people, you better start tithing folks, because if you don’t, I can teach it. Because if you don’t, he’s going to get you. You, and he’s going to bless you if you do tithe there, Joe, but if you don’t, better watch it, because that finger will get you sooner or later. And people are dumb enough to believe this. Some of you agree. We’ve been taught it. I know I have. If I have a key to hold up your hand. How many of you were taught our entirely, a lot of hands would go up. Say, why did you believe it? Well, because they taught it well. That’s what I’m getting at. The issue is not what your denomination taught, but with is right? Is it in there, or isn’t it in there? It isn’t there. I’ve said before, God devoted about three chapters in the book of Corinthians, three chapters, practically, of principles of giving. He said, I want you to be a hilarious giver. Isn’t that? Isn’t that a good a good giver? One is just hilarious. It just tingle all over when they give. But you know, there is a joy to giving. You know it’s much more blessed to give to receive. You understand the truth of that. There’s a joy to it. He said, You give in accordance to what you do have, not what you don’t have. Now, there’s a real one against tithing. We had a young couple that was here last week from Phoenix, Arizona, delightful young couple, and his Christmas present that he asked for was for he and his wife to bring to fly out here to meet us. And so last week, they came, and we had a wonderful, wonderful time with each other. He explained to us how, as he was a brand new Christian. A number of years ago, she was already a Christian. He became a Christian and got involved in the denomination, very, very legalistic, and they used to have Wednesday meetings in homes. In other words, they took their congregation like this and divided it up into Bible studies around the city, and they met in homes, and Wednesday was the day when you brought your tithe to the church. And so everybody would come and bring their tithe to the church, and then that will be presented on Sunday. Now that was from Wednesday to Sunday. So this one Sunday he was in business for himself and the he said there, the collections were slow at that week, and he came to the Wednesday meeting. Said, guys, I don’t have my tithe with me tonight, but I’ll have it Sunday. The guy said, can you go borrow it? Do you have a credit card to put it on? Can you write a post dated check? We want our money? He said, it’s Wednesday. I’ll have it Sunday. Not good enough. He ultimately went to the pastor and say, Pastor, you telling me that if I don’t have my money on Wednesday, I’m not welcome in this church. He said, You got it. You better find yourself someplace else to go. You think this is unusual? What I’m saying to you, you think it’s an unusual story isn’t an unusual story at all. It’s commonplace in our churches today, so legalistic, so fearful that God is not able to supply guys, this has been a wonderful thing for us, like I say, you know, God does this because of my great big faith. I will be real honest with you, I sit back on these things and I say, we’re $150,000 in debt. We got a thing. I would say, Lord, you know, you know, my deal is pretty easy. Lord, it’s not. My wheelchairs be done. If you want to take 10 years to play it off, that’s okay. Big faith. God said no, I’m gonna do it this year. Now I say, No, you’re not. But I’m not sitting there saying, Oh, my old man, I just say, God, I believe you, and because I believe you, you’re going to do it. I mean, you’re an obligation to do it if I believe you. Now that’s taught you. Just tell God what to do. We’re the initiator. He’s the responder. Do you know that a majority of people that’s exactly what they think of God is my prayer causes him that you kidding me? You think we’re down here bossing God around. God is the initiator. Did any of you initiate salvation? Do. Hey, God, save me.

God says, Okay, did we have anything to do with creation? Why I wasn’t sent to baptize but to proclaim the gospel. Not there to dunk people. I’m there to save people. Church comes along and said, No, you got to be baptized really. Well, then how come Paul would say I didn’t baptize anyone, but to proclaim the gospel, If baptism was in the Gospel. And then explains in Corinthians that this is the gospel, death, burial and resurrection period. Any baptism in there? Guys, you can read the passage, but I tell you where it is now you have to look. Is there any baptism in there, death, burial and resurrection. This is the gospel. It saves, death, burial and resurrection. Is there any baptism in there? Is there any tongues in there? Is there any church membership in there? Is there any man following in there? Is there any denominational following in there, just death, burial and resurrection, of who Jesus, Jesus, not any of these founders, Jesus. So he said Christ didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel. Listen to this, not with words of human wisdom. I’m not here to bring you human wisdom, lest the cross be emptied of its power. You know what we do when we add to the truth of the gospel, rob it of its power whenever you add to the gospel, that becomes the centrality of your gospel, if you think you have to speak in tongues to be saved, that becomes the centrality of your teaching. That’s all you talk about. If you believe you have to be baptized to be saved, that’s all you talk about. If you believe that you got to go to church on Saturday instead of Sunday. That’s what that’s all you talk about. That’s matter of fact, what you name your denomination after you a man followers, tradition followers. I follow this man’s teaching. I’m a Calvinist. Well, whoop dee doo, because let me ask you a question. If Calvin had anything to say that was worthwhile saying, hopefully he learned it from Paul, and if he learned it from Paul, why don’t you just call yourself a paulinist instead of a Calvinist. And you know, if you did what Paul would say to you, hey. Hold on man, who’s Paul, who’s Peter, we’re just servants. Quit being a man follower. Folks, the world is tied up in our denominations. Paul says, as far as HEBREWISM is concerned, there was not a better HEBREW on the face of the earth than Paul. According to his own testimony, he said, I was without equal. You know what he said about all that? About my education? I was trained by the best of them. You know what he said about all of it? I consider it all dung compared to that of knowing Christ put it away. I don’t want to be called a Catholic. I don’t want to be called a Protestant. Don’t want to be called a Baptist or Presbyterian or Methodist. Those are all man made. What I do want to be called is a child of the living God. That’s God made to as many as received him to them. He gave the right to become a Baptist. What’s it say? And guys, why does it say? It to as many as received him to them. He gave the right to become, what a child of God, what’s wrong with that identity? What’s wrong with that identity? I’d rather be called a Baptist or Presbyterian or Methodist or Catholic or Protestant. I know you would. That’s why I tell you to consider done and grab a hold of what I called you. I’ve given you an identity. Man has given you an identity too. It isn’t worth a flip. None of those people going to heaven, just children of God.

So that’s the identity I want. That’s the only identity that I have that’s worth anything. The rest of it is going by the wayside. Say, who are you? I’m a surgeon. Who would you be if your hands were cut off? Who are you? I’m a model. Who you going to be when you get ugly? The issue is those are temporary identities, but the only permanent identity that you and I have is the one given to us by our Creator, and that is, you are a child of the living God. Why don’t we? Why are we happy with that? Why do we have to grab a hold and tenaciously hang on to oh, I’m a Protestant, or I’m a Catholic, or oh I’m a Buddhist, or I’m I’m I’m a. Instead of Hold on a minute, God didn’t call me any of those things. God called me a child of God. Well, where do child of God’s people go on Sunday? I don’t know. Some of them go on Saturday. Well, where do they go? Well, hopefully you go where you can hear the Word of God. But not all do, and so we don’t grow, we don’t grow and mature. So guys, if we’re going to grow and mature. There’s a case where we’ve got to set aside everything except the focal point. There’s a time in our hearts where we have to put aside all of these biases that we have and say no, just like Paul. Think about it, guys. Paul was engrossed in these deals, engaged him. I consider them all dung. I consider them all dung. Anyone here consider dung being a Baptist Presbyterian? I do. It’s dung compared to that of knowing Christ, because there aren’t going to be Baptists or Presbyterians or Catholics or Methodists in heaven, just born again people, that’s all, no denominations going to heaven, just people, who, as a matter of faith, have ultimately come to the end of themselves. And when I say coming to the end of themselves, putting all this other stuff behind them, saying it’s all worthless, and I’m coming to who said I am the WAY and the TRUTH and the LIFE, and no one comes to the Father except through me. Now guys, why is that unique? What is unique about a man who says, I am the way, I am the truth, and I am the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through me? What does that tell you about him? Unique. Would any of you? I don’t care how precious you got to man. Do you think any of you would ever, or I would ever have the audacity to stand up and say, Guys, I got some news for you. Bob just made a nice announcement, but I got a better one. I am the way, and I am the truth and I am the life, and you don’t come the Father, except through me. And I would hope that you’d run me out of here in a straight jacket, right or wrong. Didn’t run Jesus out. Declared he was who he was. Uniqueness of Jesus, God, God, that’s what’s unique about him.

Now, when God comes and says that I am the bread of life, and he who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. We look at that as physical, but he’s saying that’s a spiritual truth. You have to have bread and water to live, and you have to have my bread and my water to live spiritually. He said, I’m the light. If you’re in darkness, you need light. How many people are religious today who are religiously in darkness? I was for 36 years, I went to church. I was a church member. When I came to Jesus at age 36 and opened up this Bible, it cracked, squeaked. Why? Well, it never been open. It. Why it would have been the most unusual thing in the world to walk into my Presbyterian church with a Bible. You kidding? With one of those? What for? Never read it. Don’t know what’s in it. Don’t care what’s in it. You got your routine. Sing a song. Pass the offering plate. Be sure to do that. Put my dollar in it. My hilarious giving. I listen to about a 15 minute dissertation on why we ought to be feeding the poor, sing the benediction and go home and walk out and shake the hands of the pastor and say good message. And he says, Thank you. Satan told me the same thing. Every Sunday. Did I think there was anything unusual about that? I didn’t know there was anything unusual about it. Didn’t know there’s anything different about it. And folks, there’s 1000s upon 1000s of people every Sunday that there’s no more meaning to their church attendance than what I just went through, I’m not knocking church. We have one, so please don’t think I’m knocking one. This is a church, not knocking pastors. I am one. I’m saying that there’s a difference between a pastor teaching truth and a pastor teaching error. And the only way you’re going to know whether you’re sitting under somebody who’s teaching you truth or not, is to get into the source of truth. And I ain’t the source of truth. The Holy Spirit is.

The Holy Spirit of God who lives in you is a source of truth. It’s the Holy Spirit of God that this Bible says that no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor mind is conceived of those things that God has prepared for those who love Him. But it has to be revealed by the Spirit. You cannot figure out the meaning of the word of God in your energy of your own flesh. Period. Quit trying. It is an absolute impossibility, the Spirit of God living in you. And if the Spirit of God doesn’t live in you, there’s no way in the world for you to understand the meaning of the word of God. That’s why you got all these denominations. But if the Spirit of God is alive, living in you, and that spirit is called the spirit of what? Truth. This is Jesus living in you, who we’re told is full of what? Grace and truth. So guess what the Spirit’s going to be revealing to you and me, grace and truth. And folks, I want to tell you something. If the Spirit of Truth is living in you. The Spirit of Truth is not going to continue rebelling against truth. So when I see people who are continually and tenaciously insistent upon rebelling against truth, it’s an indicator there is no truth living in them. That’s why they’re rebelling against. No truth, living in not born again, religious, but not born again.

That’s one of the characteristics, one of the ways that you can know that you’re born again is this Bible comes alive. How many of you ever tried to read the Bible before you were saved. And what was it? The mystery book. What in the world is this thing talking about? And then you become saved. And what happens? Someone rewrote the Bible? I can understand it, and it’s true. I understand this well. How do I understand it now and couldn’t understand it later? Because I have the spirit of understanding living in me. So guys, what I’m trying desperately to get across is that God wants you and me to trust Him. God wants you and me to trust him. To say, Lord Jesus, this is your game, not mine. For me to live, is Christ. So this is your life, not mine. I’m in your hands. I’m going to trust you with my life. And then, not only that, but I’m going to trust you with Amy’s life. There’s the tough one, and I’m going to trust you with Debbie’s life and John’s life and Bob’s life and the grandkids life. I’ll say, Well, hold on, that’s going a little bit too far. You. Mean, those are tests. That’s that’s saying you’ve got to trust teenagers. Yeah, it’s true, but to learn to trust him. He is trustworthy.

But again, let’s get back. Who are we trusting? God, you’re not trusting a man, not trusting just another prophet. You’re trusting the man who said, I am the way, I am the truth and I am the life, and that no man will come to the Father except through me. You’re trusting God. Where does all this trust start? Well, it starts with trusting him for your new birth. It starts with a recognition that you and I did not come into this world saved. You have people who will say, I’ve been a Christian all my life. That’s an impossibility, because no one is born a Christian. No one came out of his mother’s womb saying, Praise Jesus. You may have grown up in a church, but you didn’t. Weren’t born. You didn’t grow up being born again. Being born again spiritually is like being born physically. There is a day in time of history when you were born again. There’s a day. Now I don’t remember when I was born the first time, but fortunately, my folks have reminded me of that, so I can celebrate that, and I had the privilege of being able to celebrate that on Groundhog’s Day, so I got a very special day for my birthday. Nothing like being a groundhog, but I can celebrate that day, but I’ll remember it, but I know that’s when I was born. Sometimes you may not remember the exact day that you were born again spiritually, but if you have been born again spiritually, you know that there was a time back then when this happened to me. Don’t remember exactly when that was, but this is what happened. I came to know Jesus. I put my faith in Jesus.
